Happy New Year’s Eve everyone 🎊🥂🎉🍾

I’ve made it 9 months off Lexapro and I don’t have any symptoms. I feel great. I don’t even have any waves, yet. It’s wonderful. I had a wonderful Christmas. Finally had one with my oldest son, his wife, and my granddaughter ❤️. Of course my uncle was with us. But it was a wonderful family gathering.

And I’ll be off Xanax in July, my last drug! I’ve had anxiety from this, but it’s manageable. I’m going to make it. I have some benzo tears once in a while. As long as I keep busy I do fine. It’s when I sit and think I cry and have extreme anxiety.

Delilah, our little dog is wonderful. She’s been so much fun. But a puppy. They are a lot of work, lol...

Just wanted to check in and let everyone know if I can do it YOU WILL!

I’m wishing everyone a very Happy New Year, filled with joy and love.

Take care,

 Frogie xx

Thank you Frogie! May your new year be everything you are hoping for. You have worked hard to get here!

Started on Prozac and Xanax in 1992 for PTSD after an assault. One drug led to more, the usual story. Got sicker and sicker, but believed I needed the drugs for my "underlying disease". Long story...lost everything. Life savings, home, physical and mental health, relationships, friendships, ability to work, everything. Amitryptiline, Prozac, bupropion, buspirone, flurazepam, diazepam, alprazolam, Paxil, citalopram, lamotrigine, gabapentin...probably more I've forgotten.

Started multidrug taper in Feb 2010.  Doing a very slow microtaper, down to low doses now and feeling SO much better, getting my old personality and my brain back! Able to work full time, have a full social life, and cope with stress better than ever. Not perfect, but much better. After 23 lost years. Big Pharma has a lot to answer for. And "medicine for profit" is just not a great idea.

Feb 15 2010:  300 mg Neurontin  200 Lamictal   10 Celexa      0.65 Xanax   and 5 mg Ambien

Feb 10 2014:   62 Lamictal    1.1 Celexa         0.135 Xanax    1.8 Valium

Feb 10 2015:   50 Lamictal      0.875 Celexa    0.11 Xanax      1.5 Valium

Feb 15 2016:   47.5 Lamictal   0.75 Celexa      0.0875 Xanax    1.42 Valium

2/12/20             12                       0.045               0.007                   1

May 2021            7                       0.01                  0.0037                1

Feb 2022            6                      0!!!                     0.00167               0.98                2.5 mg Ambien

Oct 2022       4.5 mg Lamictal    (off Celexa, off Xanax)   0.95 Valium    Ambien, 1/4 to 1/2 of a 5 mg tablet

Thanks Rachel:

I think I’m doing pretty well. The Lexapro is a memory that I don’t even think of, except once a month that I’ve made it again. And make my post to remind myself how much I have accomplished. It’s been a rough road.

The Xanax is a whole lot different wd. Lots of anxiety and tears. But I just take it all in stride knowing it will be over soon.

I can’t believe you are down to 2 mg. That’s awesome! You’ve come a long way. Not much longer and you’ll be off and it will be a memory for you also. Then onto your other meds and you’ll be free! You are very impressive yourself.

I love being able to spend time with my family finally. I lost out on so much.

Hope you had a wonderful New Years Eve and Day. And we are all looking forward to another year without these meds. I wouldn’t know what to do without this site. It truly is amazing 💜

I have a question.

As you know, I’m doing relatively well on my Xanax taper. Just anxiety (which is to be expected as it’s a benzo for anxiety), some tears and my legs are “jumpy” and “achy”, I guess you could call it. I walk a lot, especially in the morning. It seems to dissipate as the day goes on, not totally gone, but much better.

Anyway, the last few days I just haven’t felt right. Just blah, no motivation at all. I force myself to take a shower and forced myself out of the house yesterday to go shopping and lunch with my girlfriend. Once I get out, I seem to be a little better. I think it’s because I’m thinking of other things. But home is always in the back of my mind.  I was really glad to get home yesterday and sit with my fur baby in my recliner and do nothing again.

I do push myself to do family gatherings and things like that. We are also selling my Uncle’s home and he is coming to live with us. We knew that was going to happen, just didn’t know this soon. We were hoping for spring.

Is it possible to be in a wave from the Lexapro? I’ve been off it 10 months now. That is what I kinda feel like, when I first went off the Lexapro but not quite intense. If so, how long do they usually last? Just curious.

Thanks for any input anyone might have for me. I really do appreciate it very much. And I am so thankful I found this site. It truly is a miracle that it exists.

Thanks again...

Take care,

 Frogie xx

Is it possible to be in a wave from the Lexapro? I’ve been off it 10 months now.

Ten months is exactly the time after zero when a wave very commonly hits.  Brassmonkey addresses this specifically in the following link.  It's a very good sign of healing.  He also addresses how long the 10-month wave generally lasts.

Gridley Introduction

Lexapro 20 mg since 2004.  Begin Brassmonkey Slide Taper Jan. 2017.

End 2017 year 1 of taper at 9.25mg

End 2018 year 2 of taper at 4.1mg

End 2019 year 3 of taper at 1.0mg

Oct. 30, 2020  Jump to zero from 0.025mg.  Current dose: 0.000mg

3 year, 10 month taper is 100% complete.

Ativan 1 mg to 1.875mg 1986-2020, two CT's and reinstatements

Nov. 2020, 7-week Ativan-Valium crossover to 18.75mg Valium

Feb. 2021, begin 10%/4 week taper of 18.75mg Valium

End 2021  year 1 of Valium taper at 6mg

End 2022 year 2 of Valium taper at 2.75mg

End 2023 year 3 of Valium taper at 1mg

Jan. 24, 2024: Hold at 1mg and shift to Imipramine taper.

Taper is 95% complete.

Imipramine 75 mg daily since 1986.  Jan.-Sept. 2016 tapered to 14.4mg

March 22, 2022: Begin 10%/4 week taper

Aug. 5, 2022: hold at 9.5mg and shift to Valium taper

Jan. 24, 2024: Resume Imipramine taper.  Current dose as of April 1: 6.8mg

Taper is 91% complete.

Supplements: multiple, quercetin, omega-3, vitamins C, E and D3, magnesium glycinate, probiotics, zinc, melatonin .3mg, iron, serrapeptase, nattokinase

Hi Frogie,

Sorry to read about your wave.  I used the link to read "it doesn't end at zero." This is good stuff for me to know as I will eventually be there too.  I liked reading that "it's an important milestone."  I guess it's important to realize it's part of the healing process.  Sadly it's something you really don't need right now because you are tapering a benzo.  I hope you feel better very quickly my friend.

RS

Thanks RS:

You are so kind and caring.

I’m glad to know I’m “ok”, even though I’m going through this. But it will end and I can move on.

Brassmonkey is awesome and a wealth of information.

It is a little tough with my benzo taper, but I’m going to make it. So will you! You’re one step closer😊

Take care,

Well..

I’ve made it 10 months off Lexapro. Never thought I’d see this day.

Except for a wave, having anxiety coming off Xanax (which is normal and I’m dealing with it), and now a severe ear infection and strep throat (I tested positive), on antibiotics, I feel really good. I’m not having any after effects that I know of. And I’ve had A LOT of stressors the past few months. Life has been anything but easy.

It was h@ll getting off of. I made lots of mistakes, but once I started listening to the mods and this awesome site, I did it!

If I can do it, anyone can. Just take it slow and you’ll make it.

Thanks again for this awesome site. And all the mods. I couldn’t have done it without everyone here. Now on to my Xanax taper. I’m really going to make it😊 just a few more months.

Hope everyone is doing well.

Take care,

Hopefully someone will chime in and answer my question 😊

My sleep is iratic (? spelling). Some nights I sleep really well 6 hours or so. But like last night, went to bed at the normal time, fell asleep, and woke up around midnight and that was it. I watched my puppy and my fiancé sleeping away. This happens 3-5 nights a week.

I wondered if anyone has good results with melatonin. And what dosage? Does it “turn” on you or do you have to taper off of it? How long before you go to bed do you take it?

Thanks for helping me out. I really appreciate everyone on this site. Couldn’t do it without all of you😊

Hi Frogie,

Sorry you're suffering from insomnia recently.

I took melatonin for a while, during early WD, and it worked.  Unfortunately, I can't remember the exact dose, although I think it was pretty high.

I took it when I was in bed, about half an hour before turning out the light.

Don't think I tapered off it either.

Hope you get some relief soon.

Have you tried lavender essential oil on your pillow and a nice bath before bed?

Hi JC:

Thanks for your response.

I’ve tried everything. Shutting off the computer early, taking a bath,  lavender etc. Unfortunately, nothing is working.

It’s been like this for few months, just thought I could get through it. I know it’s wd from the Xanax.

Just don’t know how much melatonin to take. I’ve read where taking too much can actually keep you awake.

It’s frustrating to watch everyone sleep while you lay awake lol...

Hope you are doing better and your wave is lifting 😊

Frogie,

I've had pretty good results with melatonin.  If by "turn" on you means go paradoxical, it can at too high a dose.  I took 3mg one night and it was activating.  We recommend starting with a low dose, around 2.5mg. I don't think you need to taper off.

Melatonin for sleep

I was taking 0.5 but have had better results with 2.5.  I take a 1mg tablet and cut it into quarters.  I take it a couple of hours before I go to sleep.

There was a post on here a while back giving some research that 0.3 was an ideal dose and they provided a link to order it from Amazon.  I've ordered some.  Here's the link:

 (available on Amazon)

Good luck.

Thanks Gridley:

I read on here about the melatonin as well as google. But everything I’ve read says you can take up to 5 mg. That worries me🙄

I can only find 10 mg at stores and I think that would be a little hard to split into 20 doses to get the right amount.

I think I’ll check out the amazon one you provided.

Thanks for the information. I really appreciate it.

Hope you are doing well.

Ah, ok, yes that is frustrating.  My hubby keeps me awake with his snoring, lol, I must get ear plugs!!

My parents resorted to sleeping in separate rooms due to each others snoring, anyway I digress.

Sounds like Gridley has some good advice there. It was so long ago I couldn't remember the dose I was on.

My wave persists unfortunately.

Hope you get relief soon Frogie.

Hi Frogie,

I'm sorry about your disrupted sleep. Glad you posted here since your message didn't pop up in my notifications even though I follow your topic.

Glad that Gridley has had good luck with melatonin from his message above.

My experience -

I tried melatonin - 2.5 mg  (once)  an hour before bedtime as directed. The bottle said you shouldn't take this if you have epilepsy so I didn't try it again. I did a little research and found it can interact with some anti-convulsants.  I can't say if it helped me or not and won't take it again

It looks lik  "Instead the role of melatonin is to match our internal clocks with external demands, particularly those aligned with light-dark schedules."

https://www.psychologytoday.com/us/blog/think-act-be/201702/taking-melatonin-still-cant-sleep

A few htoughts about what helps/is counterproductive for sleep: Negative thinking after 6 pm and a bad day is guaranteed to disrupt sleep. Being on the computer. Thinking about WD or SA - other people's issues or mine. Others' issues are intertwined with mine. 😉

Things that may have helped is reading before bed - maybe 1+ hours (8.15 - 9.30ish). Reading is exhausting for me - visually and mentally particularly with poor vision - even though I love to learn. On nights I did this - I have managed to sleep from 10ish to 5 or 5.30 - better than between 2.59 - 4.30 am.

Low lights (except for reading light) after 7 pm (amber tone). A weighted blanked (helps with anxiety) and blue light filters lenses if I watch TV.  Positive thoughts for 3 hours before time are important. I stop myself when I start having them. They ruin sleep. I am seeing someone who is trying to help me with my sleep.  CBT is instrumental in this.

A lengthy response. Sorry about that.

Hugs,

G.

A lengthy response. Sorry about that.

Hugs,

Thank you so much for the useful information.

I’m looking at the Amazon link that Gridley sent me.

Watching  my puppy sleep is fun. At least I know where she is and not getting into anything lol... but sleep would be especially nice😴

You are a very caring and sweet person and love to hear from you.

I hope you are doing well. And, again thank you for the wealth of information. It’s greatly appreciated.

Take care,

 Frogie xx
