Mentor RachelSusan Posted September 27, 2020 Mentor Share Posted September 27, 2020 It's so disappointing how long the symptoms can go on for. I know with time the symptoms will improve but it's hard in the here and now. My thoughts are with you. I've take a short break from tapering. I am parked at 1mg of Zoloft. So close but yet so far. I've developed internal tremors which I assume are from the tapering and I will give it a few months to see if they diminish before I start to question if they are from something other than the tapering. Always something isn't it? We will both get through this. xo RS I am not a health professional in any way. I do not give medical advice. Moderator brassmonkey Posted November 18, 2020 Moderator Share Posted November 18, 2020 So glad to hear that you are doing "all right" Frogie. Hopefully the holidays won't be too stressful and you will see steady improvement. 20 years on Paxil starting at 20mg and working up to 40mg. Sept 2011 started 10% every 6 weeks taper (2.5% every week for 4 weeks then hold for 2 additional weeks), currently at 7.9mg. Oct 2011 CTed 15oz vodka a night, to only drinking 2 beers most nights, totally sober Feb 2013. Since I wrote this I have continued to decrease my dose by 10% every 6 weeks (2.5% every week for 4 weeks and then hold for an additional 2 weeks). I added in an extra 6 week hold when I hit 10mg to let things settle out even more. When I hit 3mgpw it became hard to split the drop into 4 parts so I switched to dropping 1mgpw (pill weight) every week for 3 weeks and then holding for another 3 weeks. The 3 + 3 schedule turned out to be too harsh so I cut back to dropping 1mgpw every 4 weeks which is working better. Final Dose 0.016mg. Current dose 0.000mg 04-15-2017 "It's also important not to become angry, no matter how difficult life is, because you can loose all hope if you can't laugh at yourself and at life in general." I was thinking about you just the other day and wondering how you were doing? Good news, I hope? We have been on here about the same time frame and became friends immediately. I'm so glad we met and can continue our friendship. I know I will have wd symptoms for a while after being on Xanax over 20 years, my CNS is a little messed up. But I'm coping the best I can. I am ready for Thanksgiving. Just have to put things together the day before. Maybe it will be a little joy to all of us right now. We can all use it! I hope you have a very Happy Thanksgiving also. Moderator Frogie Posted November 19, 2020 Author Moderator Share Posted November 19, 2020 @brassmonkey Thanks for the hugs! I love monkey hugs! My CNS is a little messed up, but to be expected after being on Xanax over 20 years! Not going to heal overnight (wishful thinking though). I'm not allowing the holidays to stress me out. Learned a lot from these meds. You actually have feelings that you can control. It's amazing lol... We are having a very nice quiet Thanksgiving and Christmas. But I will miss Black Friday shopping. Istm
Hi Frogie! I read in your thread that you also developed thyroid issues during withdrawal, and I was wondering, how is that going? I was just diagnosed with hypothyroidism just after I went off psych drugs, I’m sure withdrawal caused it and I’m not sure if I should go on thyroid meds or if this will resolve after withdrawal... who knows! ps. Moderator Frogie Posted December 30, 2020 Author Moderator Share Posted December 30, 2020 @Istm I’m sorry you are having problems with your thyroid. It’s a tricky thing. I did have problems throughout my tapering. The dr. thought it might be sub clinical hypothyroidism and we just watched it. Then in July I had a spike and September I was feeling every hypothyroid symptom there was and my TSH had spiked higher, so we started a very low dose of levothyroxine. Since, my TSH has gone down a lot and I’m starting to feel better. Still some symptoms, but getting better. But don’t go off just your TSH. You need to have Free T4 and Free T3 in normal range also. Have you had a full thyroid screening? You have to do what’s right for you. Hope that helps. Take care, Frogie xx PREVIOUS medications and discontinuations: Have been on medications since 1996. Moderator Frogie Posted March 31, 2021 Author Moderator Share Posted March 31, 2021 (edited) ***I’m going to talk about death (not mine obviously) Hello everyone, Well, this marks 2 years being off of Lexapro. Was it a piece of cake? NO! Did I go through severe withdrawal? YES! But, saying all of that I can honestly say that I am healed from the Lexapro nightmare I endured for 4 years. But it wasn’t a walk in the park by any means. I had severe nausea, headaches, “jelly legs”, to the point that I couldn’t walk, just to name a few symptoms. Some days I couldn’t get out of bed, let alone even take a shower. My poor significant other. He worked 60+ hours a week, cooked, cleaned, did laundry and took care of my ailing Chihuahua. He’s still here, standing next to me to take on the next withdrawal: Xanax! But I could have never done this without the help of so many of the moderators, mentors, and members on this site, especially @apace41. Now on to the big picture. This Xanax withdrawal is a nightmare to beat all. I have so many symptoms: Adrenaline rushes, Anxiety, Agoraphobia, Akathisia, Breathlessness (BAD), Burning sensations, Crawling sensations, Inner trembling, Insomnia (BAD),Itchy dry skin, Migraines, Nose bleeds, Nervousness, Restless Legs (BAD), Runny nose, Tinnitus, Thyroid problems, Weight gain, just to name a few. I’m really struggling even to do day to day functions. My father in law (for better words as I’m not married to my significant other) passed away in January. I posted that before. He was 93, had dementia and broke a hip they couldn’t fix. It was sad to see him not even be able to change the tv channel. He knew what he wanted to watch but would ask my mother in law to change the channel because he didn’t know how. Now my sister in law and my significant other’s oldest brother came down with covid. She formed a blood clot in both of her lungs. She was in the hospital a week. The dr. took an x-ray to see how she was doing. You have to remember they live in the little town that I lived in for 6 years and the dr.’s are not well equipped to deal with these types of situations. He came back in her room and transferred her immediately to a Denver hospital. She is now in ICU with covid pneumonia, along with covid and the blood clots in her lungs. She has been in the Denver hospital for a week on a ventilator. As of last night her husband has been told to get the kids together. She is very critical and they have no hope for her. It’s a sad situation because they had the option to get the vaccine and they declined. They were going to “live their lives and deal with the virus if they got it.” It's so sad because he can't visit her because she has covid. I’m not saying anyone should get the vaccine or not. That is a decision each individual should make on their own. I did get my first vaccine last Friday, and was sick, sick, sick over the weekend. So, in a nutshell, this year has been just as bad, if not worse than last year. I’ve lost 4 people to covid, among the other people I’ve lost throughout the year, and tapering/withdrawing from Xanax in a little over a year. Hopefully, in 2-3 years I’ll be writing a success story. Believe me when I say we are all survivors. Moderator Frogie Posted April 1, 2021 Author Moderator Share Posted April 1, 2021 @Erell Thank you so much for thinking of me even when you are having symptoms of your own. I read you stopped the toothpick of Paroxetine. I hope that is working in your favor. You are very kind to think of me. I’m just going day by day. You are doing so well juggling extremely stressful events all whilst going through uncomfortable (to put it mildly) withdrawal symptoms. I am so sorry to hear about your SIL and that you are going through all of this, Frogie. 1 -1/06 - 3/07 Cymbalta. Fast taper (essentially CT); withdrawal symptoms after 4 mos (didn't realize was WD) -10/07: 100 mg Zoloft; 1 mg Klonopin - tapered off Klonopin after 4 mos. Several unsuccessful slow tapers of Zoloft; went up and down in dose a lot -Spring 2013 back on 1 mg Klonopin to counter WD symptoms; switched over 5-6 mos from Zoloft to 35 mg citalopram -Two attempts at slow tapering citalopram, always increased dose due to WD; also increased Klonopin to 1.25 mg in 2014, then to 1.5 mg in 2015 -8/17-9/17: After holding one year at 20 mg, feeling withdrawal symptoms due to stress - slowly increased to 25 mg. No change in symptoms after 6 months (? tolerance ?) - decided to start citalopram taper February 2018 (still on Klonopin 1.5 mg).
