SetMeFree -- Welcome to Surviving Antidepressants (SA)

I hope you'll find the information in the SA forums helpful for your situation. I'm sorry that you are in the position that you need the information, but am glad that you found us.

Thanks for completing a signature. Would you update it with your current dose and the date that you started taking it?

Insomnia and anxiety are common symptoms when tapering an SSRI such as Paxil, and during withdrawal from it.
What is withdrawal syndrome

To minimize the risk of withdrawal symptoms, we suggest that people taper by no more than 10% of their dose at the time and no more often than once per month. Your cut from 7 mg to 6 mg was 14.3%, which seems to have been too much for you after your previous dose reductions. Paxil is a stubborn little monster to taper; many people find they have to go very slowly and to pay careful attention to their symptoms.

Why taper by 10% of my dosage?

I think my next move will be a compound pharmacy. I just get frustrated cutting and weighing and I start to taper quicker.. I wonder what it costs here in NY to have them made for you? Anyone know..

Hi, setmefree, I was just going to suggest liquid, but I see in your signature that it was giving you problems. Do you know for sure it was the liquid, and not a dose decrease, that was causing problems? The good thing about liquid is that you can control 100% when you step down, up-dose, hold, anything.

2020: After 18+ years (entire adult life) on Paxil, a dangerous doctor-led "taper" in 2015, and four years tapering off the last 1 mg thanks to SA and the Brassmonkey slide,

I AM COMPLETELY FREE OF PAXIL! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! Forever.

2021: Began conservative, proper, CNS-respecting taper of Zoloft, led by the only expert on me -- me. Making own liquid. 5-10% plus holds.

2022: Holding on Zoloft for now. Current dose 47 mg. Hanging in, hanging on. Severe protracted PAWS, windows and waves. While I may not be doing "a lot" by outside standards, things are graaaaadually getting better

Yoga (gentle to medium); walks; daily breath practice; nutrition, fruits/veg; nature; water; EastEnders (lol); practicing self-compassion, self-care; boundaries; connection; allowing feelings; t r u s t ing that I, too, will heal. (--> may need to be reminded of this.)

Back then I thought it was but now is seems the GI issues was more of withdrawal from weaning not from liquid. I can go back to liquid if that's my only option. I think I need to hold each dose longer. Like 2 or 3 months.. I may need just to go slower..

SetMeFree:  Please (re)read the topic on tapering by 10% per month MAXIMUM: Why taper by 10% of my dosage?

After you started taking Paxil your CNS (central nervous system) made changes to receptor & transporter cells, enzyme and neurotransmitter production. It takes time to make the changes and it takes time to "unmake" them. When you change dose up or down a few times in a short period, you destabilize the CNS. It's best to work WITH that sensitivity than try to force it or fight it.

3KIS: Keep it slow. Keep it simple. Keep it stable.

What dose did you /will you take today?

It sounds like you're sensitive and you've had a few changes in dosage. It might take a while to stabilize.   Could you update your drug signature, as it is unclear. You are on 20 mg ?

Many SSRI's and SSNRI's over 20 years. Zoloft for 7 years followed by Effexor, Lexapro, Prozac, Cymbalta, Celexa, Pristiq, Valdoxan, Mianserin and more - on and off. No tapering. Cold turkey off Valdoxan - end of May 2014

Psych Drug - free since May 2014
