Thanks for dropping by, Carmie.  The symptoms come and go but do seem to have subsided a bit.  The last couple of days I've gotten out and done a little weeding (rainy season here, lots of weeds).

Glad to hear your symptoms have subsided a bit Gridley,

Yay for getting some of your weeding done! I’ve only been out of my flat once or twice in the last couple of weeks because of a virus, but I’m a little better now.

So, you’re getting lots of rain💦, can you please send some over this way? 😁 I love listening to rain, it’s so soothing. Sometimes I put rain sounds on and listen to them. I also love the sound of crashing waves. I love water, fullstop! There really is no other sound as soothing as the sound of water, whether it’s crashing waves, trinkling creeks and streams, pouring rain etc etc. It’s one of my favourite sounds ever. I also love going in water, I wish I lived a walk away from a beach. We have a manmade beach at Southbank, in the middle of the city.

Have you been to the hot springs in Ecuador? I would love that! I saw a video on Ecuador and the other thing I’d love to do is to go on that long train ride that goes through the mountains. Have you done that? Trains are another thing I really love. I find them so soothing too. I think it’s the vibrations and the sounds, and off course watching the scenery out of the window. I’m all for doing things that I find soothing while going through withdrawals.

Take care, sending hugs 🤗

are you in the mountains?  I would love to visit Ecuador some day.

Currently taking Ramapril (blood pressure) 5 mg twice a day

Omeprazole 10 mg AM and 20 mg PM  (the taper has gone nowhere after the first cut)

Famotidine   once a day (and I still needs tums sometimes)

magnesium 200 mg at night

as of yesterday 2 fish oil capsules "EPA-DHA 1000"

off Lexapro as of 5/2018  - last dose had been 5 mg every other day for a couple years

highest dose had been 20 mg at which point I was diagnosed with Bipolar II, which went away when I cut the lexapro down to 15 mg.

I spent years on Paxil before Lexapro (can't remember dose), briefly on Effexor and Abilify and others I have forgotten. in fact, when I was diagnoses with BPII I was put on all kinds of things which made me feel so bad I stopped them cold turkey within maybe 3 or 4 weeks, thank goodness. since then I've known these pills were terrible and I weaned down the Lexapro with zero help or support over I'm not sure how many years.

Yes, we are near the top of a mountain at 6000 feet altitude, about a thousand feet up from the tiny village of 5,000 people. I don't go down often, maybe twice  week.  Everything grows year-round.  Incredible biodiversity of birds, especially hummingbirds.  Though we are on the Equator, the fact that we are so high up produces a very pleasant year-round spring-like climate.  It's a nice country.

In the city of Banos (meaning baths) on the edge of the Amazon they have very nice mineral waters. I love water too, and I keep the window open all night behind the bed to catch the soothing sounds and healing air.  We went from Banos to a monkey rescue preserve in the Amazon where the monkeys crawl all over you and you are warned to leave your keys, etc. in the car, for they will will pilfer everything not nailed down.

Hi again Gridley,

I can just imagine the beautiful soothing sounds and healing air at night when you open the window. I can actually see it quite vividly in my imagination and it seems glorious. I think appreciating nature is so important.

I’ve heard that monkeys are thieves. I’ve seen videos of them stealing people’s bags and cameras in Bali. You have to have everything glued to you.🐒😁

The city of Banos sounds wonderful. If I was living there I’d definitely be going to the mineral baths all the time. It must be very soothing. In withdrawals we have to find all those lovely things that soothe the soul because our minds and bodies are definitely not cooperating with us.😏

Take care💚

Hi Gridley,

How are going with the Jane Austen novels? Reading is a great distraction when brain fog isn’t too bad. I’ve read the Jane Austen novels in the past. I really love John Grisham too. Which Austen novel have you started with in your Austen binge?

Happy reading📖💚

Had a baboon take a sandwich right out of my mouth a while back.

20 years on Paxil starting at 20mg and working up to 40mg. Sept 2011 started 10% every 6 weeks taper (2.5% every week for 4 weeks then hold for 2 additional weeks), currently at 7.9mg. Oct 2011 CTed 15oz vodka a night, to only drinking 2 beers most nights, totally sober Feb 2013.

Since I wrote this I have continued to decrease my dose by 10% every 6 weeks (2.5% every week for 4 weeks and then hold for an additional 2 weeks). I added in an extra 6 week hold when I hit 10mg to let things settle out even more. When I hit 3mgpw it became hard to split the drop into 4 parts so I switched to dropping 1mgpw (pill weight) every week for 3 weeks and then holding for another 3 weeks.  The 3 + 3 schedule turned out to be too harsh so I cut back to dropping 1mgpw every 4 weeks which is working better.

Final Dose 0.016mg.     Current dose 0.000mg 04-15-2017

We were eating lunch in a nice clearing near a stream when a small group of baboons showed up about 50 feet away. We watched them as they watched us. As I lifted my sandwich to take a bit a large male bounded across the space and grabbed the sandwich just as I was biting into it. Got a minor scrape on my hand and was a bit shocked for a few minutes, but it was all quite exciting.

Hi Gridley.

I hope you are doing well.  I came across your posts and see that you are tapering Lexapro which I am on currently and will be tapering soon.  If you don't mind me asking,  has anything improved at all over the whole process.  How are you feeling at this point?

I feel like I am bugging the heck out of strangers on here but I am in a very anxious place right now and talking about it helps.  I am in tolerance WD at 20 mg Lexapro and feel so similar to when I have come completely off the pills in the past, though not as severe and with a few less symptoms.  I'm having a lot of brain fog, trouble sleeping, anxiety; the worst in the morning, anhedonia, muscle twitching,  feel like I'm in a dream world; which I hate so much, 0 motivation and depression.  Have you had any of these symptoms and have they improved over the course of your taper at all?  Sorry again to bombard you with questions.

Thanks

1994-2009 benzos from age 20 to 36.  Added Cymbalta 60mg in 2007.

2008-2009 tapered benzos to zero and quit Cymbalta Cold turkey.  WD HELL for two years

2011 started on Lexapro to combat the withdrawal and it worked.

2015 switched to Prozac as Lexapro was not working as well

2017 quit Prozac cold turkey November and crashed into WD.  Reinstated Prozac In December with no benefit.

2018 Switched back to Lexapro in January and it took most of the issues away in around 2-3 weeks

2019 In February Lexapro has pooped out and WD feelings back.  Tolerance WD I'm sure.

March 12th Upped my dose to 30 mgs per doctor's advice to see if Tolerance WD goes away but have had worsening sleep issues with limbs jerking and less sleep.

March 17th dropped back down to 20 mgs and had less limb jerking last night but sleep no better.

           April 20th cut to 18mg.

Randy,

I'm happy to help you any way I can.

As you can see from my signature, I started my taper at 20mg and have been tapering for 2 1/4 years and am now down to 3.4.  I'm feeling pretty well at this point, not great but functional.  As I've gotten to lower doses on the Lexapro, which as you may know is an activating drug, I've noticed several symptoms improving.  Though insomnia is still as issue, it is better and I get between 5 and 8 hours a night of broken sleep.  The most notable improvement I've seen as I get lower in dosage is anxiety.  Earlier in the taper I had severe cortisol anxiety surges every morning.  In the past year these have diminished altogether, which I attribute to the lower dose of Lexapro.  General anxiety has also diminished.  This is a big improvement, as anxiety was my main symptom earlier in the taper.

Like you,  I deal with anhedonia, apathy and lack of motivation and haven't yet seen any improvement there.  Not depression, just a feeling of general blah which is natural with anhedonia.  Earlier in the taper I had severe neck pain/tightness which is now much improved.  I had some paresthesia (numb/tingling fingers for a few days a month ago but that has resolved.

So, in answer to your question, yes, symptoms have improved as my Lexapro dosage has gotten smaller.

Here are some links that should be helpful:

Preparing to taper

Why taper by 10% of my dosage?

I'm doing a variation of the 10% taper, known as the Brassmonkey slide taper, which is 2 1/2% of current dose every week for four weeks, followed by a two-week hold.  It is a bit slower but gentler than the 10% taper.

So, in answer to your question, yes, symptoms have improved as my Lexapro dosage has gotten smaller.

Thanks so very much for responding.  I'm so happy for you that you have had improvements.

My morning anxiety is really bad.  It hit's me like a train once it is morning time.  In the night when I wake up I am really out of it but the anxiety rush doesn't come which I find weird.  Just when I reach the point when sleep is just not going to happen anymore.

Thanks again for getting back and I hope you continue to improve!

Every since I hit the mid-3mg's in my Lexapro taper, I've noticed increased symptoms (in severity plus new symptoms).  So I'm going to follow SA's advice about going more slowly at the low doses.  Part, at least, of the reason for this, as best I understand it, is that the neurotransmitters decommisioned (that is, not longer working due to the drug; I view it as "taken captive") remains disproportionately high though the dose is very low.

I'm (unfortunately) neither science nor math-proficient.  Basically, a study they did in 2004 (I don't know the drug) found that the Serotonin Transporter Occupancy was about 80% when taking a 20mg dose and still nearly 50% at a 3mg dose. Even at a 1mg dose, the occupancy was nearly 25%.  The graphs in this topic illustrate this:

I'm certainly eager to keeping dropping (especially with two other drugs to taper), but really I've not been feeling too great.  So I'm going to hold an extra week (I'm on the Brassmonkey slide taper) and see how I feel at that point.

Hi Gridley,

You’ve done so well getting down from 20mg to around 3mg. That’s quite some feat. I’ve had to lower my percentage rate of tapering too when I got down to the smaller doses. I’ve had many a long hold as well, the holds really are as important as the tapering percentage. I’m surfing the waves, like you, at the moment too.🏄🏻‍♀️

I’m always happy after each little drop I make. Any taper, no matter how small, is forward movement. Onwards and upwards.😁

Wishing you all the best with your continued tapering 💚

I am sorry to hear you've hit a rough patch with your taper, Gridley.  I hope the extra hold helps and you feel better very soon.

-1/06 - 3/07 Cymbalta. Fast taper (essentially CT); withdrawal symptoms after 4 mos (didn't realize was WD)

-10/07: 100 mg Zoloft; 1 mg Klonopin - tapered off Klonopin after 4 mos. Several unsuccessful slow tapers of Zoloft; went up and down in dose a lot

-Spring 2013 back on 1 mg Klonopin to counter WD symptoms; switched over 5-6 mos from Zoloft to 35 mg citalopram
-Two attempts at slow tapering citalopram, always increased dose due to WD; also increased Klonopin to 1.25 mg in 2014, then to 1.5 mg in 2015

-8/17-9/17: After holding one year at 20 mg, feeling withdrawal symptoms due to stress - slowly increased to 25 mg. No change in symptoms after 6 months (? tolerance ?)  - decided to start citalopram taper February 2018 (still on Klonopin 1.5 mg).

Supplements: fish oil; magnesium; vitamin D3; curcumin

Citalopram taper:  2/2018 - 12/2019: 25 mg - 11.03 mg I 2020: 10.89 mg - 7.9 mg I 2021: 7.8 mg - 5.26 mg I 2022: 5.2 mg - 3.36 mg I 2023: 3.3 mg - 1.47 mg 2024: 1/5/24: 1.44 mg; 1/19/24: 1.40 mg; 1/26/24: 1.37 mg; 2/2/24: 1.34 mg; 2/9/24: 1.31 mg; 2/23/24: 1.28 mg; 3/1/24: 1.25 mg; 3/8/24: 1.22 mg; 3/15/24: 1.19 mg

I've not been feeling too great.  So I'm going to hold an extra week (I'm on the Brassmonkey slide taper) and see how I feel at that point.

I hope this goes well for you.

Hi Gridley-- sorry to hear that things are flaring up a bit, but you have the right idea to take it a bit slower.  A lot of people find things a bit bumpier from 3 down to around 1, then things seem to settle out a lot. Keep up the good work though, you're getting there.

Even at a 1mg dose, the occupancy was nearly 25%.  The graphs in this topic illustrate this:

Thats really something Gridley.  Im glad you will hold a bit more and see how things are.  Hoping you feel better and the next drop goes ok.  You are amazing!!!💜

The extra week hold (2 + 1) brought the new symptoms under control, so today I'm resuming my 2 1/2% weekly Brassmonkey taper, down now to 3.1mg.  As we say in Ecuador, poco a poco (little by little).  One day at a time.

That is great news, Gridley -  I am so glad the extra hold did the trick.  You are doing so well!

I too am so glad to hear things have settled for you with the extra hold, Gridley.  That sure seems to be a good thing I find...backing off and letting my system settle from Everything before doing anything that will stress...even a walk or whatever.  It all becomes too much and I have enough just eating and getting through days.  Take care.  Hope next drop goes ok!💜
