Happy huge milestone birthday Gridley!!!!  You ARE the greatest!!  :DB)  And squeaking off the nasty Lexapro.........well, like a pro.  Proud of you.

I am singing and eating cake to celebrate.........as I just hit 61 years myself.......

yep.........acceptance and no what ifs!!!!!  And for me......keep it simple.......darn, I love to overcomplicate and overanalyze everything sometimes..........

Late 2023- gone to emeritus status, inactive, don't @ me, I can check who I've posted on, and I'm not really here like I used to be......thanks.

Started with psycho meds/psychiatric care circa 1988.  In retrospect, and on contemplation, situational overwhelm.

Rounding up to 30 years of medications(30 medication trials, poly-pharmacy maximum was 3 at one time).

5/28/2015-off Adderal salts 2.5mg. (I had been on that since hospital 10/2014)

12/2015---just holding, holding, holding, with trileptal/oxcarb at 75 mg. 1/2 tab at hs.  My last psycho med ever!  Tapered @ 10% every 4 weeks, sometimes 2 weeks to

2016 Dec 16 medication free!!

Longer signature post here, with current supplements.

Herb and alcohol free since 5/15/2016.  And.....I quit smoking 11/2021. Lapsed.  Redo of quit smoking 9/28/2022.  Can you say Hallelujah?(took me long enough)💜

Update:  I think I've settled into a pretty consistent WDnormal as I continue to slowly taper the Lexapro.  The biggest improvement is that the Cortisol morning anxiety, which several months ago, was consistent, has almost totally abated.  As I look at my symptom log  for the last few months, the vast majority of days are at "0" (no unusual symptoms), with a few 1's and 2's (5 is worst).  My definition of WDnormal is not feeling great (that's a window) but feeling tolerable consistent yuckiness.  So I still have apathy, anhedonia, lack of motivation.  I do have some windows; one all day a couple of days ago.  Some waves caused by regrets, self-blame, what-ifs and second-guessing, but these don't last more than a couple of hours.

Happy birthday Gridley!

We have a couple things in common. We are both tapering Lexapro and our birthday is July 3rd!

Sounds like you are doing well.

It is inspiring to read about your tapering journey, Gridley.  I am so happy for you that you have seen a reduction in symptoms as you've decreased - sounds like a great way to start off a new year....happy birthday!

-1/06 - 3/07 Cymbalta. Fast taper (essentially CT); withdrawal symptoms after 4 mos (didn't realize was WD)

-10/07: 100 mg Zoloft; 1 mg Klonopin - tapered off Klonopin after 4 mos. Several unsuccessful slow tapers of Zoloft; went up and down in dose a lot

-Spring 2013 back on 1 mg Klonopin to counter WD symptoms; switched over 5-6 mos from Zoloft to 35 mg citalopram
-Two attempts at slow tapering citalopram, always increased dose due to WD; also increased Klonopin to 1.25 mg in 2014, then to 1.5 mg in 2015

-8/17-9/17: After holding one year at 20 mg, feeling withdrawal symptoms due to stress - slowly increased to 25 mg. No change in symptoms after 6 months (? tolerance ?)  - decided to start citalopram taper February 2018 (still on Klonopin 1.5 mg).

Supplements: fish oil; magnesium; vitamin D3; curcumin

Citalopram taper:  2/2018 - 12/2019: 25 mg - 11.03 mg I 2020: 10.89 mg - 7.9 mg I 2021: 7.8 mg - 5.26 mg I 2022: 5.2 mg - 3.36 mg I 2023: 3.3 mg - 1.47 mg 2024: 1/5/24: 1.44 mg; 1/19/24: 1.40 mg; 1/26/24: 1.37 mg; 2/2/24: 1.34 mg; 2/9/24: 1.31 mg; 2/23/24: 1.28 mg; 3/1/24: 1.25 mg; 3/8/24: 1.22 mg; 3/15/24: 1.19 mg

Sweet of you to drop by.  I'm doing pretty well. Down to 5.1 mg Lexapro from 20.  WD and tapering pretty much limit and define what I do.  I do better when I have no stress, which is those days I don't leave the mountain.  So the question is, push it or no.  The clear answer, for me, is no.

Sometime over the past week, on two days I doubled my 5 mg dose of Lexapro (because I mistook my Lorazepam bottle for my Lexapro bottle and took an extra Lexapro).  Definite symptoms resulted: return of insomnia, dizziness, spaciness, increased anxiety, reduced appetite.  Oh well, a bit of a setback.  I am holding at my present 5mg Lexapro until things settle down.  Lesson: if you're polydrugging, make sure your bottles look very different.  And go slow.  I was so tempted to drop another 2 1/2% tomorrow but I will hold.

Hi Gridley,

So sorry to hear that you mixed up your meds. I’m fortunate I only have one medication to think about but even then I’ve managed to mess up a couple of times.

I hope you stabilise soon, Sending hugs🤗

A couple of weeks ago, I accidentally doubled my dose of Lexapro for two days (mixed up my Lorazepam and Lexapro bottles, joys of polypharmacy).  I had some increased anxiety and insomnia for a few days, but I'm happy to report these have largely subsided to normal levels.    Needless to say, I have very clearly marked the two bottles to avoid a repeat performance.

I'm holding at 5mg for another week just to let things settle.

Oh I am so sorry, Gridley.  Thinking about you - WR.

That's a tough one Gridley. I'm so sorry to hear it.  The initial shock can feel like being hit by a truck.  I lost my sister last year to Gall Bladder cancer and am still processing it. Think about the good times, set them in your head and celebrate them.

Brass

20 years on Paxil starting at 20mg and working up to 40mg. Sept 2011 started 10% every 6 weeks taper (2.5% every week for 4 weeks then hold for 2 additional weeks), currently at 7.9mg. Oct 2011 CTed 15oz vodka a night, to only drinking 2 beers most nights, totally sober Feb 2013.

Since I wrote this I have continued to decrease my dose by 10% every 6 weeks (2.5% every week for 4 weeks and then hold for an additional 2 weeks). I added in an extra 6 week hold when I hit 10mg to let things settle out even more. When I hit 3mgpw it became hard to split the drop into 4 parts so I switched to dropping 1mgpw (pill weight) every week for 3 weeks and then holding for another 3 weeks.  The 3 + 3 schedule turned out to be too harsh so I cut back to dropping 1mgpw every 4 weeks which is working better.

Final Dose 0.016mg.     Current dose 0.000mg 04-15-2017

Oh my goodness.....70 years.  Wow.  I am so sorry, Gridley.  We are all here for you.  💖

My WD symptoms have worsened since I learned of my cousin's (closest family member) death.  I managed to cry a little a few days ago (not a lot and I had to push myself) but generally I remain pretty numb to everything (including his death)   So my best guess is that the loss has struck me at a deeper level than I can comprehend and is manifesting throughout my system.

that makes sense.

Currently taking Ramapril (blood pressure) 5 mg twice a day

Omeprazole 10 mg AM and 20 mg PM  (the taper has gone nowhere after the first cut)

Famotidine   once a day (and I still needs tums sometimes)

magnesium 200 mg at night

as of yesterday 2 fish oil capsules "EPA-DHA 1000"

off Lexapro as of 5/2018  - last dose had been 5 mg every other day for a couple years

highest dose had been 20 mg at which point I was diagnosed with Bipolar II, which went away when I cut the lexapro down to 15 mg.

I spent years on Paxil before Lexapro (can't remember dose), briefly on Effexor and Abilify and others I have forgotten. in fact, when I was diagnoses with BPII I was put on all kinds of things which made me feel so bad I stopped them cold turkey within maybe 3 or 4 weeks, thank goodness. since then I've known these pills were terrible and I weaned down the Lexapro with zero help or support over I'm not sure how many years.
