15mg is an extremely high dose to reinstate.  Your brain will have already made some adaptations since you were last on that dose.  If it were me, I would be taking only 1 or 2mg from your next dose, and definitely no more than the 3.75mg.

I think 15 minutes is a bit too soon to be thinking it is working.  However, when I updosed I could type again in about 4 hours.  I'm a professional typist and was having great difficulty being able to type so I had a benchmark to go back and knew it wasn't placebo.

I know its obviously not working yet, my point is the massive change in my mood just knowing I had taken it, which leads me to believe i wasnt suffering with withdrawal at all just in a total mess thinking it was withdrawal & now I am relaxed that i have made a decision a huge placebo effect!

Would i be ok just taking one dose today & then not any more at all? really dont want to be back on it if i dont need to be.

It could be the promethazine you took.  You took that because you were feeling bad.  My suggestion would be to take 1mg or 2mg take that dose for 2-3 months to get stabilised and then do a 10% taper.

Hi Heather,

Just wondering how you are doing?  What dose have you been taking of the Mirtazipine?

Please update your signature showing the dates and doses for Mirtazipine.  It's important for your well being for us to have accurate drug taking information.

Have you been keeping a daily symptom diary?  It might be helpful to Rate Symptoms Daily to Check Patterns and Progress so that you can "see" improvements which you may not have noticed.

Hi I am much better thanks. Not taken anything else except my little experiment of 15mg mirtazipine yesterday, I now have no plans to continue back on this drug as I have learned how powerful my mind is and I manifested those symptoms by myself. Not planning on keeping a symptom diary as I find ruminating and obsessing about symptoms are what keeps us locked in the anxiety loop

I did keep my doctors appointment yesterday. She offered me trazadone or amytriptiline but I declined, she also signed me off work for a few weeks but guess what? I went back today. Sitting at home surfing the internet for answers does not work for me. Thanks so much for your help and input when I needed it

Much love x

Ok I am a long time lurker only popping up from time to time.20year Paxil user, last 3 years started mirtazipine too but stopped that one 6 months ago. Not adjusted my paxil dose for 3 years which is 10mg.

The bottom of my world has fallen out these last 4 days. Worst panic and anxiety I have ever had yet nothing has changed and my life is good.

Thoughts anyone?

Hi Heatherjc

So sorry to hear you are having problems but glad that you have found SA.

It sounds like it could be that the Paxil is maybe not working so well anymore - they call it 'poop out' on this site. I am not sure whether you would get WD symptoms after being off Mirt since beginning of October last year.

Have you changed the manufacturer of paxil recently?

I am sure a mod will be able to give you proper advice on this and set you on the right track.

Best wishes and welcome

Thanks so much for the response. I only take brand name paxil (seroxat in UK) due to having issues with generic Brands in the past. But NOTHING has changed for years so no idea what or why this is coming from. Everyone telling me to go to doctors. But um no what is the point? Do I increase or decrease? Nobody knows how to help me. I know Paxil pooped out a few years ago and have spent that time going from 30mg to 10mg but have stuck here for about 2 years. No idea what is going on!

Hi again!

Thought it could be a different brand - worth a try!

Maybe the 10mgs is just not working for you anymore.

Sorry I can't be more helpful but the moderators will be looking at your post soon I am sure. Geographically they are situated all over the world so time zones are different than UK.

How did you stop the Mirtaz six months ago? Did you do any sort of taper or a CT?  How much and how often were you taking it?

20 years on Paxil starting at 20mg and working up to 40mg. Sept 2011 started 10% every 6 weeks taper (2.5% every week for 4 weeks then hold for 2 additional weeks), currently at 7.9mg. Oct 2011 CTed 15oz vodka a night, to only drinking 2 beers most nights, totally sober Feb 2013.

Since I wrote this I have continued to decrease my dose by 10% every 6 weeks (2.5% every week for 4 weeks and then hold for an additional 2 weeks). I added in an extra 6 week hold when I hit 10mg to let things settle out even more. When I hit 3mgpw it became hard to split the drop into 4 parts so I switched to dropping 1mgpw (pill weight) every week for 3 weeks and then holding for another 3 weeks.  The 3 + 3 schedule turned out to be too harsh so I cut back to dropping 1mgpw every 4 weeks which is working better.

Final Dose 0.016mg.     Current dose 0.000mg 04-15-2017

I tapered off the mirtazipine slowly after many months. I have not touched my paxil dose for at least 2 and a half years due to being petrified of the stuff. Too scared to stay on, too scared to get off. Nothing has charged but Omg the absolute worst case here of unexplainable panic

Hi Heather-- I've been out all day so haven't been able to follow up on the questions I asked on your intro thread.  There are a couple of factors involved here. One is the length of time you've been on the paxil.  Maintaining a dose of paxil for that many years will eventually throw a person into tolerance, or as we lovingly call it "poopout". That means that even with maintaining a constant dose the body starts to go into withdrawal, with all the associated symptoms.

The other factor is the speed of the taper you did to get off of the mirtazipine. Looking at your signature I can see it was just too fast.  The large reductions are the problem.  Mirtazipine has to be be tapered very slowly and gently to keep it from causing problems like the ones you're currently experiencing.

It may be possible that a small reinstatement of the mirtazipine will help alleviate some of the symptoms and help to stabilize things.  Once stable it then could be slowly tapered off of with a reduction in symptoms.  After that has been successfully done a slow taper of the paxil could be undertaken.

Those are my general thought on what is going on.  I'm going to repost this on your intro thread so you have a better record of it, and so the other mods will have access to whats been said.  That will allow for better input all around.

Concentrate on the task at hand, work slowly and methodically, take lots of notes to help remember things, do tasks one step at a time, Take lots of breaks, congratulate yourself for each step completed.  Try to forget all about how bad you feel and let the work distract you.

Thank you. Been pretty much back to my old self the last 2 days so think it was just my regular anxiety spiking. Doing steps from an amazing book called DARE which has helped massively already.
