Tachyphylaxis or drug "poop-out" means that the drug stops producing the intended effect even though you are taking it at the same dose you always have and maybe even at the highest recommended dose. I don't know what the typical symptoms of that would be. Maybe a google search on tachyphyaxis or drug poop-out would yield an answer your question?

Mediation has helped me some during withdrawal. My biggest problem with meditating is making the commitment to doing it everyday.

Yes I experience extreme nausea after stopping Prozac. It lasted 14 months. I was so sick I could hardly eat. I lost 55 pounds. I am grateful that my nausea has improved. At times I still don't have an appetite, but that is okay.

With regards to poop out my body started rejecting the medicine. I started experiencing bad side effects. I had constant headaches, restless leg syndrome. Once I stopped Prozac both those symptoms went away. I experienced those symptoms for years and had not idea they were from the Prozac.

Discontinued Fluoxetine cold turkey after taking it for 12 years. Stopped taking Fluoxetine in August 2015.

My current withdrawal symptoms: Itchy skin, smell hallucination, hot flashes, night sweats, insomnia, and anxiety.

Synthroid for hypothyroidism.

tryingtosurvive - There are no risk-free medications available to "treat" anxiety and any other psychological or psychiatric concerns have risks.

This site is about providing information to help people taper medications safely and cope with symptoms of withdrawal. We recommend non-drug techniques to deal with symptoms not medications.

Other sites, such as Patients Like Me, may be better suited for your question because they are intended for patients to share information about their treatments.

Thanks for the reply scallywag. I know this site is not pro-psychopharmaca but rather trying to help people survive them... and to survive among this toxins...

just figured since no one else in society really seems to understand how f-cked up you can become from having been on ssri .... and really knowing the drugs better than ppl , clinicians etc out there...I am so desperate to make the situation better but without getting caught in really bad withdrawal and side effects again...

thanks for the page though will look into it.

Hi everyone, I am now since 7 months suffering from a severe reflux it even gave me upper pneumoniae athe one point. The PPI ans antiacids made things worse. So can't take that. The reflux is a larnyphageal reflux (LPR) where airborne pepsine and maybe bile comes upp in my troath and airways. Nothing seems to help so I am writing here cause the Dr and ppl in support forums for reflux suggest I try a very low dose of amitripyline like 5- 10 mg. Cause they think my troath might be hypersensitive .

any one here used amitripyline for this cause ?

(My symptoms are troathpain, problem swallowing, lump in troath, problem inhaling, plegm, lots of burping and troath clearing, post nasal drip)

All exams of swallowing etc where normal the only thing they saw was that my lower esophageal sphincter doesn't close at all times ....

since my CT and horrible withdrawal reinstating and tapering veeery slowly with support from your guys I am scared to death to ever touch any psychopharmaca again. But my life has disappeared due to these symptoms so need something that can help. What will a low dose of amitripyline do to me ? Could it ease any of these symptoms?

VERY GRATEFUL TO YOUR RESPONSE you who heard ppl using this or who has experience fromore this

Kindest regards / trying to survive

I have been treated with antihistamines and mast cell stabilizers for a some months now due to a histamine intolerance and sever symptoms of mast cell activation disorder. I have my thoughts of how it could logically have been triggered by the SSRI (prozac) that I was on for 14 years cause mast cells have receptors for and mediate serotonin as well..

But not until yesterday when the akathisia similar to the one I had once in my life before - during Withdrawal (WD) from Prozac (have no other drugs or sicknesses) came back after 4 years!!! What is this ? Allergy or connected to WD 4 years after cold turkey ?..?

I also have alot of pain in my joints and a strong burning metallic taste in my mouth anyone experienced similar ?

Grateful to your replies!

tryingtosurvive, it's very difficult to say cold-turkey might have caused histamine intolerance.

Cold turkey is a very high-risk way to come off drugs. It can cause severe withdrawal symptoms and autonomic dysregulation that lasts a long time. Digestion is controlled by the autonomic nervous system.

However, if you had long-standing severe allergies, eczema, asthma, etc. before taking psychiatric drugs, mast cell activation might have been present long before cold turkey.

Whatever caused what, you need to cope with your present health situation. If you have histamine intolerance and eat the wrong foods, you can get symptoms of activation -- nervousness, sleeplessness, etc. These will go away in a couple of days.

What exactly do you mean by "akathisia"?

This is not medical advice. Discuss any decisions about your medical care with a knowledgeable medical practitioner.

Like I am freezing or shaking from under my skin and deep inside its very unpleasant its in my torso and goes out in my whole body,,. It has nothing to do with me being cold or stressed it also feels like bubbles sometimes... Why ?

And I have been forced to eliminate histamine food for 1,5 years so not eating stuff like that anymore... but was never allegic before... :/

/Trying....

Hi,

WD symptoms appeared also to me 4 years after been off citalopram!

Fortunately they were mild, like muscle pain, heart palpitations, fatigue etc, but gradually subsided over a year, and almost gone by now!

It happens daytime now but Like I Said last time I experienced it was 4 years ago just after CT from Prozac then the reinstate and slow tapering helped so it stopped. Now since 2 years I seem to have developed a mast cell activation disorder I am allergic to all food with histamine and it all started in a trip to Shanghai.  Got really really ill when I came back coughing like hell, swollen throat, Stomach pain and started burping (but no reflux)and very weak and exremly tired etc after 4 months they gave me small antibiotic for what maybe was Clamydia pneumoniae.  Even though I started to be able to breath better I never full recovered am on a very limited diet due to histamine intolerance and have been taking antihistamines daily as well as mast cell stabilizer cromolyn for a while.... but also slot slot of cramping in my body and an increased pain in back also got pain in legs, hip fingers etc my joints also got more cracking and laxative . POTS ,EDS and MCAS are all diagnosis I would fullfill now ://///

And I fainted twice! And NOW the akatisia also comes back! I have no idea what is going on.????..

If not Mastcell activation disorder from ssri use for too long (14 years) then maybe I got an infection in Asia that has triggered the MCAS ...

Waiting results for lyme disease... but the cure for that doesn't exist in Sweden.. .:///"

Very grateful to your thoughts again

No I havent but as I mentioned I have not recovered since I got ill in China 2 years ago and developed the mast cell activation disorder so my diet has since then been VERY restricted 😕 no food with histamine and can't eat many proteins...

have tested positive for lyme now so scared I might have this ... in -sweden they are not good at treating this as they don't like to prescribe antibiotics and if they do its not long enough..... I tried doxycline but got horrible cramps (maybe a herx-heimer reaction...?)

@tryingtosurvive

I have stumbled upon your thread via a help topic you started.

Looks like it's been a couple of years since your last post. Seems you were dealing with quite a lot during your time here.

How are you feeling these days?

Don't know if you still receive notifications or if you'll see this.

Just wondering how you are and whether you've had the opportunity to pursue your interesting idea of a book project ... ?

If you ever check back in it would be great to hear how you're doing.

Wishing you well,
