powerback: tapering no 2

Wishing the best for you, PB!

-1/06 - 3/07 Cymbalta. Fast taper (essentially CT); withdrawal symptoms after 4 mos (didn't realize was WD)

-10/07: 100 mg Zoloft; 1 mg Klonopin - tapered off Klonopin after 4 mos. Several unsuccessful slow tapers of Zoloft; went up and down in dose a lot

-Spring 2013 back on 1 mg Klonopin to counter WD symptoms; switched over 5-6 mos from Zoloft to 35 mg citalopram
-Two attempts at slow tapering citalopram, always increased dose due to WD; also increased Klonopin to 1.25 mg in 2014, then to 1.5 mg in 2015

-8/17-9/17: After holding one year at 20 mg, feeling withdrawal symptoms due to stress - slowly increased to 25 mg. No change in symptoms after 6 months (? tolerance ?)  - decided to start citalopram taper February 2018 (still on Klonopin 1.5 mg).

Supplements: fish oil; magnesium; vitamin D3; curcumin

Citalopram taper:  2/2018 - 12/2019: 25 mg - 11.03 mg I 2020: 10.89 mg - 7.9 mg I 2021: 7.8 mg - 5.26 mg I 2022: 5.2 mg - 3.36 mg I 2023: 3.3 mg - 1.47 mg 2024: 1/5/24: 1.44 mg; 1/19/24: 1.40 mg; 1/26/24: 1.37 mg; 2/2/24: 1.34 mg; 2/9/24: 1.31 mg; 2/23/24: 1.28 mg; 3/1/24: 1.25 mg; 3/8/24: 1.22 mg; 3/15/24: 1.19 mg; 3/29/24: 1.17 mg; 4/5/24: 1.14 mg; 4/13/24: 1.11 mg; 4/20/24: 1.09 mg

This is an ideal time to initiate a switch to Prozac, adding 2mg to the full Effexor 37.5mg capsule for 3 days, then take 2 of the Effexor mini-tablets (25mg) and make up the rest with 2mg Prozac.

You'll need to request a prescription for liquid Prozac right away. If you cannot get liquid, you can make a liquid yourself, see Tips for tapering off Prozac (fluoxetine) Be sure to get a 5mL oral syringe from the pharmacist.

Yes, take 2 of the Effexor mini-tablets (25mg) with 4mg Prozac. You are lowering the Effexor while increasing Prozac.

In a few days, you'd drop another Effexor mini-tablet, and take one mini-tablet with 4mg Prozac. If all is well, drop the last mini-tablet a few days after that, and increase Prozac to 5mg total.

What are you taking now? How do you feel? Do you feel better or worse than when you were on all venlafaxine?

Sound alto thanks for that ,im no better really or worse ,ile keep my notes and see in 4 or 5 days how it pans out .

For 3 days I took 2mg prozac with 37.5 effexor.today is the first day of 25mg effexor with 4 mg prozac .

Ide imagine ile have to notice a pretty bad reaction to abondon the switch.

At the momment I have racing/intrusive thoughts but they were pretty much always there .

I didnt forsee the unpleasant taste of the liquid ha .

hi steve  cheers ,im under no illusion this is the silver bullet solution ,im just hoping it doesn't go very bad .as of now im not going near Effexor again ,so unless ive a serious reaction to Prozac ,ile stay on it for at least 6 months .I hope in the future others will take into account all variables in there personal life before coming off a drug.i simply didn't have an environment for peace and relaxation .your living arrangements has to be one of the biggest factors for healing I think .anyway all on me even before withdrawal .

From what I’ve read, I think that you got the short straw with your ad. One of the hardest to come off by all accounts. Good luck in changing to Prozac .

Hope this crossover works for you pb... all the best B

WARNING THIS WILL BE LONG
Had a car accident in 85
Codeine was the pain med when I was release from hosp continuous use till 89
Given PROZAC by a specialist to help with nerve pain in my leg 89-90 not sure which year
Was not told a thing about it being a psych med thought it was a pain killer no info about psych side effects I went nuts had hallucinations. As I had a head injury and was diagnosed with a concussion in 85 I was sent to a head injury clinic in 1990 five years after the accident. I don't think they knew I had been on prozac I did not think it a big deal and never did finish the bottle of pills. I had tests of course lots of them. Was put into a pain clinic and given amitriptyline which stopped the withdrawal but had many side effects. But I could sleep something I had not done in a very long time the pain lessened. My mother got cancer in 94 they switched my meds to Zoloft to help deal with this pressure as I was her main care giver she died in 96. I stopped zoloft in 96 had withdrawal was put on paxil went nutty quit it ct put on resperidol quit it ct had withdrawal was put on Effexor... 2years later celexa was added 20mg then increased to 40mg huge personality change went wild. Did too fast taper off Celexa 05 as I felt unwell for a long time prior... quit Effexor 150mg ct 07 found ****** 8 months into withdrawal learned some things was banned from there in 08 have kept learning since. there is really not enough room here to put my history but I have a lot of opinions about a lot of things especially any of the drugs mentioned above.
One thing I would like to add here is this tidbit ALL OPIATES INCREASE SEROTONIN it is not a huge jump to being in chronic pain to being put on an ssri/snri and opiates will affect your antidepressants and your thinking.

As I do not update much I will put my quit date Nov. 17 2007 I quit Effexor cold turkey.

Hi PB. Just wanted  to drop by to wish you a peaceful Christmas. Hope that things are picking up for you. I must admit that I am dreading it this year. Just don’t like the extra stress, extra people etc. Makes my social anxiety 100 times worse.

Good Luck

Hi Andie .how I feel depends on the barometer of what I can do.

Today was a decent day ,on the go since 8am  but massive fatigue hit me at 3pm.

In a few weaks ile see how switch goes .but I am forced into it .

Keep asking mods for help with taper because a switch is far from the answer.

im desparate for way too long.

Wow Pb impressed, you are doing so well with the bridge,

Merry Christmas, I know next year will be a much better year for you,

keep it up👍

2001 - 2005 prozac,  2001 - 2017 various benzos, mainly diazapem and zanex,  2002 - 2017 olanzapine or seroquel,  2002 -2017 propanolol, 2005 - 2009 venlafaxine 75mg , forced to go cold turkey off venlafaxine as moved Thailand, doctor cut me off and couldn't get it there, severely ill for over 2 years, countered withdrawals with more zanex and seroquel

2014 returned to UK, mainly to get treatment getting off meds

doctor advised to taper seroquel over a few weeks, severely ill and bed bed-bound so reinstated it, 2015 tapered seroquel myself slower over a few months, was off it 2 months and was too ill so went on olanzapine, became zombie and too tired to get out of bed, went back on seroquel, very depressed so went back on venlafaxine, didnt work  so doctor swapped to zoloft became very agitated so back on venlafaxine

June 2016 - felt strong enough to begin tapering again, started what I thought was a slow taper of all meds,  2016 July Not had any alcoholic drink since this date,

2016 October completely off diazepem, 2017 Feb completely off seroquel, 2017 March completely off proponanlol, 2017 April (day before birthday) completely off venlafaxine, OFF ALL MEDS 11/4/2017, was fine for nearly 3 months and then delayed withdrawal hit,

supplements taking: turmeric capsules, NiaCel (nicotinamide riboside), Vit B12 sublingual, Vit B3, Vit B6, Vit B1, apple cider vinegar, manuka umf 10 honey, camu camu powder,  melatonin when needed, epsom salt baths, juices, smoothies,

PB im over the moon for you pal.

Just something to keep in mind. Prozac is activating for a while and then drops off and levels out eventually.

Just keep this in mind so if it does you can say yep well im not bothered as i knew this could happen.

Take care

Merry xmas.

Merry xmas also leo .

Im not going much further past 5mg for a while .

I see on your thread you drank ,don't be like me and pushing things to misery when they don't need to be .depending on how much you drank this could knock you back a good bit .I had a binge eating session myself today ,juice cleanse tomorrow lol.

AS for family and external influences ,this is your body ,don't let anyone else cloud your judgement .

7months is still early days for withdrawl but you are the only one than can know when it becomes untenable.

Take care and enjoy holiday season 👍 .

Ah hi peng ,any snow in Scotland ,just wet I think .

the want to do things never left me ,not being  able and the acceptance of being handicaped  is always the hardest ,I've doors to hang and steps to build but the motivation isn't there so ile get my uncle to help ,the ego is taking a thrashing lol.

This year doing anything while severely impaired  but still doing it anyway has caused problems ,the worst when I sliced my leg open ,it seems a certain part of my brain for concentration is gone .it could be the extreme anxiety ,this is bound to cut off the solving problems part of the brain .I have often over thought something to the point of paralysis .

Hope your well my friend ,enjoy the rest of the  holiday season .

Take care .

Hi PB. Just wanted  to drop by to wish you a peaceful Christmas. Hope that things are picking up for you. I must admit that I am dreading it this year. Just don’t like the extra stress, extra people etc. Makes my social anxiety 100 times worse.

Good Luck

Steve

Made a conscious decision to leave the house yesterday [2 hours] ,I've barely gone for my walks  in months ,I couldn't face visitors ,my partners family .she understood ,she rang me to say they had gone but I was glad I got out .

Hope its been ok for you steve.

PB,

Happy holidays.  You, like many of us, are hesitant to ever suggest there is some improvement for fear that the Antidepressant Gods will come down on you with the wrath and fury we all fear.  I get the "fear of the jinx" as I've never been one to acknowledge any improvement (not that there's been a ton to write home about).  Nevertheless, based solely on the tenor of your posts, I am willing to surmise that you are seeing just the slightest of improvement that is giving you some of that ever elusive "hope."  If what I surmise is even remotely accurate, I'm pleased for you as you have certainly been through the wringer.

My wishes for improvement in 2019.

Best,

Andy

Sertraline 50mg and Clonazapam .375mg from 2000 -- symptoms of dizziness Spring 2012

increased to .5 Clonazapam and 100mg Sertraline -- no improvement

Benzo microtaper from November 2012 to November 2014 (followed benzo sites "taper benzo first")

Started Sertraline taper in December 2014 cut by 25mg to 75mg; 62.5mg 1/1/15 and 50mg on 2/1/15

Held at 50mg through April 5 to use liquid
Reduced dosage in 10% or less drops from 50mg to 25mg -- at single tablet of 25mg on 10/5/15

Transitioned to all liquid for accuracy while tapering -- Horrible insomnia -- back to 25mg liquid and held until October 1, 2016

10/16 -- 11/18 tapered very slowly to 10.6mg.  No real improvement and never really stable so updosed to 12.5mg (1/2 a pill) for convenience and long hold.

After 8+ months of holding with no noticeable improvement decided to add .4ml of liquid Prozac (about 1.5mg) to see if that improves the situation

Supplements, Magnesium, D3, Omega 3, curcumin, Valerian, 81mg Aspirin, L-Theanine, Vit. C,

And over the Christmas period too, when many members notice their symptoms increasing because of the additional stress.

It takes at least 4 days for most antidepressants to ramp up to a steady level in the bloodstream. Because Prozac has a longer half-life than other antidepressants, it can take more than a week to ramp up to full effect.

You are now feeling the effect of the Prozac you took at the beginning of the switch, which sounds like it's working.

How are you feeling now, what is your drug mix?
