compsports
Scheduled for one in a few months. Unfortunately, the doc has ordered MoviePrep which sounds ghastly. Can anyone share their experiences and tell me which preparations they had better luck with? I am seriously thinking of asking for an alternative like swallowing pills but wanted to have the right information. Thanks! Moderator Emeritus scallywag Posted January 31, 2017 Moderator Emeritus Share Posted January 31, 2017 compsports, I was concerned about the preparation required after all I'd heard from others and read online. My experience of the preparation was that it was mildly uncomfortable. I didn't like the sensations of urgently needing to use "the facilities" but it was manageable. Like most people, I planned for a night at home, not a night "out on the town." The few times I've had food- or water-based infections that caused diarrhea were much, much worse than colonoscopy prep. As for the MoviPrep itself, I'd never order it as a menu item but I wouldn't refuse a future colonoscopy because of the laxative or its effects. The pills are intended to create the same effect -- clearing the colon so that the lining is visible for examination. So you may not have the taste & texture issues to deal with but you'd still have the experience of urgently needing the toilet. This is not medical advice. compsports
Sorry I wasn't clear SW. From what I have read, some preps seem to be more "tolerable" than others. That is the reason for my question. I will have my colonoscopy on 21st March with MoviPrep...I agreed...They want to sedate me as well...I think I will agree as well, as it was not really pleasant when I had endoscopy with no sedation... I discussed other preparation methods with doctor, all of them have side-effects... - 12.03.2021- doxepin- 50mg - 6.11.2020- 75mg - 16.10.2020- 100mg - 30.09.2020- doxepin- 125mg - May 2020, omeprazole 40mg switched to esomeprazole 20mg - 2012 re-started Doxepin 75mg, evening. compsports
Thanks Ikam. Mine is three days after yours on the 24th. Going to ask the doc about doing a gradual clearing out over 6 days based on the book, "The Gentle Colonoscopy." But he may balk not being familiar with the protocol. Regarding sedation, he recommended going with propofol which initially seemed fine since I have never had problems with it. But because I read the chances of complications are greater with this, I might go with a Fentanyl only sedation.
