Thank you Carmie  for your kind words.  Yes, looking back over these last few months I see it was too fast a taper.

I did reduce to 12mg for about 9 days in May but thought I would be alright, and could straight to 11.5mg after such a short period of time for someone like me.  Obviously it wasn't!

Prozac has been in my system for about 20 plus years so I need to be careful how I reduce my dosage.  I've done a lot of fast tapers until I found the advice here.

This website is very comforting to me and when I get a bad wave I always come here for support.

You have done fantastically well to reduce from 300mg to 7.5 mg of your dosage.  Well done.

From 2000 onwards - Prozac 20mg daily.. Numerous attempts to come off have been disastrous - extreme anxiety,  depression.

(2005 - 2007 Tried Citalopram, 20mg. But switched back to Prozac.)

2007 - 20016 Prozac, 20mg.

Feb 2016 - Feb 2017 Have reduced gradually from 20mg to13mg.

Feb 2017 -  Jan 2018,  have reduced gradually from 13mg to 12mg.

This is going very slowly  because I reduced too quickly and had to go back up.

Been a long journey but already I feel much more like me. Less brain fog...

Hi Carmie, thanks for asking.  I've had to go up to 12.5 mg Prozac.  Didn't like how I was feeling,  however starting to feel ok .  Have been on this dose for about 2 weeks now.  So hopefully  I have stabilised .

Hi P,

So you are starting to feel okay/more stable after the update July 25? Are you going to hold a while longer?

2020: After 18+ years (entire adult life) on Paxil, a dangerous doctor-led "taper" in 2015, and four years tapering off the last 1 mg thanks to SA and the Brassmonkey slide,

I AM COMPLETELY FREE OF PAXIL! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! Forever.

2021: Began conservative, proper, CNS-respecting taper of Zoloft, led by the only expert on me -- me. Making own liquid. 5-10% plus holds.

2022: Holding on Zoloft for now. Current dose 47 mg. Hanging in, hanging on. Severe protracted PAWS, windows and waves. While I may not be doing "a lot" by outside standards, things are graaaaadually getting better

Yoga (gentle to medium); walks; daily breath practice; nutrition, fruits/veg; nature; water; EastEnders (lol); practicing self-compassion, self-care; boundaries; connection; allowing feelings; t r u s t ing that I, too, will heal. (--> may need to be reminded of this.)

Hi Sky Blue,

Yes thanks I seem to have stablized at 12.5mg Prozac.

Started taking this dose on 12thAugust, so that's 3 weeks.

To be honest I'm a bit apprehensive about reducing because each time I try and go to 11mg or less I start to feel anxious and panicky.

I will try a very very small reduction in dosage in about a week or two.. Say about 12.3mg.  My difficulty is that my scales aren't that accurate as I measure out the powder onto the scale and then scoop it back into the capsule again.  Sometimes I pour the powder out again just to check the dose and it's usually a lot less!

Hi Prince,

So glad to hear that you’re stabilising. That’s always a great feeling, isn’t it?

I can understand your apprehension in tapering even tiny amounts. These meds are so powerful. I’m going to do a microtaper next, though I don’t use scales. I’ve been water titrating for years.

Wishing you all the best n remember we always eventually stabilise again after each drop, we just don’t know when. Sometimes it’s important to keep the holds a bit longer too, I’ve donr that many a time too.

Sending hugs🤗

I haven't been in touch for a while.  Just like to say that although I'm nowhere near coming off Prozac, I already feel I have so much more energy and don't have so many down moods.

Hi Altostrata,

Thanks. Yes I do plan to reduce by 2% every month.  I'm going so slowly that I'm not sure I'll be ever free of the drug.

I know how ridiculous this slow taper may seem to some but I'm cautious because I've been taking Prozac for 15 plus years and I'm in my 60's now.

However, I'm pleased that every day I now take half the dose of what I took 3 years ago.

i would never have known how to do this without thie information I picked up here such as tapering and recognising withdrawal symptoms.

Best wishes to all.

Prince

Hi Prince,

How are you doing? I’m glad you’re moving forward in your tapering. 2% is great, I think any forward movement is fabulous! I’m tapering by just over 3% myself at the moment.

All the best with your continued tapering💚

Hi Carmie

I'm still at my 12mg dose per day.  Feel fine for it.  Might wait and see how I get on.

To to be honest I'm a bit apprehensive to lower my dose, mainly because I feel fine.

I may try going down a little bit next week.. Maybe by 1%.

PS , I think you may have sent me this post ages ago but I just looked at it today.  If so, then sorry for the late reply.

Hope you are well and getting through this journey we are all on.

Hi Altostrata

Thanks for asking. Please excuse the very long gap in replying  (It's now February 2024) and I'm starting all over again because I went back up to full dose (20mg Prozac) last May, 2023.

I'm now at 20.79mg and will taper slowly.

All the best
