Aeroman - I have recovered from Lexapro and Cipro

Recommended Posts

Wthdrawal is a bi***. One moment your there ready to accept every feeling that gets thrown at you the next moment your dizzy; physically weak; your whole nervous system is in shock because you don't have a certain chemical in your blood. Thats what my 30 days of withdarawal from 40 mg of Paxil tought me. Will probably reinstate tomorrow because what's a guy to do when his whole body is screaming and making him fill dizzy; My willingness to accept wount help will it? It's just a substance dependency.

Slow tapering not quiting in 20 or 30 days after years. All the acceptance in the world and if your taper is not slow your gonna bring yourself some hurting.

Stimulaton 50mg 28.11.2008 - 01.11.2011

Tapered : 19.09.2017 - 29.09.2017 20mg

Tapered : 30.09.2017 - 10.10.2017 5mg

Reinstated : 03.11.2017; 5mg

Miracle123- I just wanted to jump in and say that the heart palpitations for me were the worst. Just know that when you experience even an hour that is heart palpitation free it will feel like the dark clouds have parted and the cherub angels start singing. It does happen so keep on keeping on.

10 years of ssri and finally tapered off in 2 years. Off Celexa by jan/28/2014 and off benzos by March/6th/2014 after only two months use and still experiencing withdrawal symptoms.

Folks, happy new year. I ended up drinking a lot on NYE and woke up with a tough hangover. I had the typical nausea and stuff yesterday but ended up getting depressed in the afternoon and still have it today. Also a mix of anxiety. Anyone else go through this? I am just riding out this funk.

I've been told to stay away from alcohol a while even after complete recovery. What you describe doesn't sound uncommon as I know a lot of survivors who said they had to wait a year or two before trying alcohol again after recovery, they had similar experiences as you. Just take it easy tonight, drink lots of water and use the acceptance that this will pass.

My son started with depression 3 years ago. They put him on Prozac 20 mg to start upped it to 40. That had odd OCD side effects so they switched him to Wellbutrin . That was terrible. So they went back to the 20 mg. of Prozac. Which seemed great for a long time. He felt well enough to be off the meds altogether. The doctor disagreed and put him on 10 mg. lexapro. He was on it for a while but his anger was higher. The doctor had me slice the I'll in half and after a while his anger increased. Come to find out he had not been taking his meds. At all. I ( his mother ) seem to be the target of the anger. He is 18 and 4 months away from graduating . I want so badly to see the day he graduates , but his anger is tearing my husband and I apart. My husband wants to leave us and says I need to kick him out. I can't see the benefit of that. My sons anger is so scary that ther are time I come close to calling the police. I'm glad to head with drawls go away and I praise you for your hard work. This does give me hope, because I have seen so much dismal news elsewhere.

So sorry to hear Sadmom. All SSRIs are nasty but I think Lexapro is really nasty! Hopefully an administrator on this site will be able to advise you on how your boy can come off Lexapro in a way to minimise withdrawal symptoms which can include anger and rage outbursts.

In Jan 2011 started Lexapro 10 mg after 10 minutes consultation with doctor telling him I felt anxious in confined spaces and had an anxiety attack on plane and underground. Remained on that dosage until Sept 2014. Tapered following a doctor's schedule on 2.5 mg drops every three weeks. Once stopped I developed severe withdrawals. Three weeks of Prozac beginning of Oct 2014 but had adverse reaction and stopped CT. Protracted withdrawals since. Supp now - magnesium, fish oil, turmeric, vit D, melatonin (but recently it's made me depressed), castus vitex capsule with ginger, Withania, Vit E, zinc, Lutein for PMS.

Thank you so much daisybell for the kind words. If I would of known this would have been the outcome I'd never put him on these meds. To begin with. I truly think anyone who can successfully get and stay off these meds are heroes . You all inspire me.

I remember reading this thread a year ago thinking that this is a pipe dream and I will never get better, but here I am, a year later and I'm a bit better, and I kinda believe you when you say that this too shall pass. It is amazing. I went all year feeling like I was about to die, being accosted by vertigo, for starters, which made me feel drunk day in and day out. Then the nausea, fatigue, anxiety, and all manner of misery.

Anyway, I am drug free now. I don't drink (last drink was in 2013), I quit smoking too (since 2015 after taking it up again after quitting it for 5 years previously). So, Lexapro was my last enemy to conquer. The journey of ridding myself of antidepressants and benzos started in 2014, October 10. That is when I quit Xanax. Then on 2016, December 25, I quit Lexapro and that was the end of my road with these drugs.

Anyway, this thread helped me a lot. I realised that this was a slow process, and a long process. I realised that my brain needed time to heal. I started getting my vitamins and minerals sorted because, for some reason, everything in me was depleted, from my iron, magnesium, vitamin D levels, Folate, Vitamin B levels, and even thyroid hormones, to my tummy being a mess necessitating probiotics and such. Blood tests can be very enlightening, so I recommend these in your quitting journey, at least once a year.

If it wasn't for taking B12 and a Vitamin B Complex in the morning, I wouldn't have woken up. During the day I took Iron Fumarate, Vitamin C, Glutamine and Folate. Then at night, I took L-Theanine, Magnesium, Melatonin, Probiotics and some Valerian Root because, boy, the insomnia was on steroids. it still is, but now I am up because I am pregnant, and my causes of sleep are different. I had regained my normal sleeping pattern after 8 months.

Anyway, moral of the story is, I am much better after just 1 year of being chemical free. I take a paracetamol here and there but that is all now. Of course, this means I suffer through a lot, but that is the nature of my journey. I have come to accept that some discomfort is worth it if my recovery gets quicker so I don't want to regress. I suspect pregnancy is helping me feel better, and speaking of pregnancy, I am anxious about postpartum depression, but I will cross that bridge when I get to it.

So, Aeroman, thank you so much for sharing your journey! It helped me on mine. I have a long way to go, but I am better off now than I was this time last year.

Started Xanax and Escitalopram (Lexapro) - 2008 May

Stopped Xanax in 2014 Oct

Started Seroquel and Neurontin in 2014 Oct (Weight gain 20kgs in 6 months)

Stopped Seroquel and Neurontin 2015 June

Stopped Escitalopram (Lexapro) 2016 Dec

Taking: Magnesium, Evening Primrose, Vitamin C, Iron Fumarate (Chronic anemia), Levothyroxine, Triiodothyronine.

Year 1 was tough. Year 2 I started seeing the light at the end of the tunnel. Year 3 was good.

5 years drug free on December 25, 2021.

I am at a place that the rest of you have been. The widows and doors. I have been trying to recover from lexapro for 7 months after quitting cold turkey. My Dr thinks I am crazy. He just says all your tests have came back normal. (Blood, ex-rays, Mri).....He says I am stressed and I need to start taking prozac. I have suffered through every possible side effect possible. The worst for me has been the brain, arm and leg zaps. They disappear briefly for a couple hours every now and then but reappear with a vengeance. They are driving me absolutely insane. I am hopeful that one day I can come back and tell you my success story. Thanks Aeroman for your story and giving me hope that one day I will be normal again.

Hi Deltaforce33-- Welcome to SA. I'm so glad you find Aeroman's thread to be inspirational, he's one of our real success stories. Would you please start a thread for yourself over in the Introductions Forum. Then you can tell us about yourself and everything that is going on. Once we get that information I think we should have some ideas that will help get your WD symptoms under control and make life a bit more comfortable.

Brassmonkey

20 years on Paxil starting at 20mg and working up to 40mg. Sept 2011 started 10% every 6 weeks taper (2.5% every week for 4 weeks then hold for 2 additional weeks), currently at 7.9mg. Oct 2011 CTed 15oz vodka a night, to only drinking 2 beers most nights, totally sober Feb 2013.

Since I wrote this I have continued to decrease my dose by 10% every 6 weeks (2.5% every week for 4 weeks and then hold for an additional 2 weeks). I added in an extra 6 week hold when I hit 10mg to let things settle out even more. When I hit 3mgpw it became hard to split the drop into 4 parts so I switched to dropping 1mgpw (pill weight) every week for 3 weeks and then holding for another 3 weeks. The 3 + 3 schedule turned out to be too harsh so I cut back to dropping 1mgpw every 4 weeks which is working better.

Final Dose 0.016mg. Current dose 0.000mg 04-15-2017

Hi Sad mom, I think all of us would agree that if we had known these would cause all these issues, we would not have touched these drugs. Live and learn.

Lexparo 10mg user for 2.5 years. Last dose was 2/27/2008 after a fast 1 month taper. Recovered around 2011. Had issues with depression, anxiety, akathasia, inner restlessness, vertigo, insomnia, loss of appetite, eye floaters just to name a few. Basically rode it out, employing the Dr. Claire Weekes method.

So, Aeroman, thank you so much for sharing your journey! It helped me on mine. I have a long way to go, but I am better off now than I was this time last year.

I'm glad my thread helped you! I think you have gotten over that infamous "hump". Keep going!

Took Cipro in July of 2014 and have been having set backs with nausea, vertigo, anxiety (racing thoughts), and depression the last half of 2014.

Ah, thank you so much for hope on a dark dark WD day. I can't feel it but have to believe your words.

How long have you been in withdrawal? I remember about the "not feeling it" part.

Hi Delta, like Brassmonkey mentioned, feel free to post a new thread for yourself. I remember the brain zaps and at 7 months in WD, I was still in my darkest place. I tell people that I started to get relief from the worst of the worst symptoms at around 10-12 months after my last dose of Lexapro. Again, that's my timeline and it doesn't mean that it will be the same for you. What matters here is that recovery is possible, whether you believe it or not.

Dear Aeroman,

Heartiest Congratulations for recovery from withdrawal

Currently I am going through protracted withdrawal syndrome (Windows and waves pattern). Is it possible to end claustrophobia while remaining in protracted withdrawal syndrome using CBT or slow desensitisation? cortisol spike make me little anxious in the morning and makes me little less confident to end claustrophobia.

Currently I have Anhedonia but sometimes gets a window particularly when i talk with people, night sleep pattern 11 pm to 4 am. At morning, i feel cortisol spike. At 10 am, I get some relief from cortisol spike. Little stomach cramping and heart palpitations exists through out the day. Experience mild headache when i take stress...

currently going through some stressful events in life.

I also want to ask one more thing....I am 28 years old and i took paxil for almost 1 year..... I left taking them in April 2017...I am almost 8 months off except i took few tablets in October, 2017.

when will my post acute withdrawal syndrome end? and when will i become recovered ?

Regards

Hi, I am not sure how to answer your question regarding the claustrophobia however, the acute symptoms ended for me around month 10-12ish. Like I said above, my timeline may be different than yours but you will recover, give it TIME. I tried all sorts of stuff and NOTHING helped except TIME. I am not sure about your Paxil question. From my experience from talking with others, TIME is what helped us recover regardless of how long, what one took, etc.

Everything you've described about the anhedonia, morning cortisol, etc I went through and those were horrible. The anhedonia for me lingered. My mornings were the worst compared to the evenings. My sleep was really bad in the beginning...I would average 30min of unrestful sleep each night and that lasted for about 5 to 6 months. The sleep finally came back. I did a sleep study and that didn't help. They just said I was restless - really?!

Hang in there.

Hi Aeroman

i have read and re read your success story to keep me sane and keep my hopes alive so it goes without saying,

how have you fared from your alcohol induced "setback"?

Anthony

Hi Anthony, it took me about 2 to 3 days to recover from that drinking issue. I am fine now. After the hang over went away, I fell into this mix of depression and anxiety. It could have been situational as well. Yep, I am good now. Thanks for asking.

Just over 9 months. I guess it is "depersonalization" that occasionally makes it so I don't "feel" deeply.

  • Prozac | late 2004-mid-2005 | CT WD in a couple months, mostly emotional
  • Sertraline 50-100mg | 11/2011-3/2014, 10/2014-3/2017
  • Sertraline fast taper March 2017, 4 weeks, OFF sertraline April 1, 2017
  • Quit alcohol May 20, 2017
  • Lifestyle changes: AA, kundalini yoga

I used to take ashwagandha years ago with no problems and it helped calm me but I tried it again shortly after I finished my taper and it was activating, it made me have zero sleep the night I tried it, be careful with any supplements like this when in withdrawal

2001 - 2005 prozac, 2001 - 2017 various benzos, mainly diazapem and zanex, 2002 - 2017 olanzapine or seroquel, 2002 -2017 propanolol, 2005 - 2009 venlafaxine 75mg , forced to go cold turkey off venlafaxine as moved Thailand, doctor cut me off and couldn't get it there, severely ill for over 2 years, countered withdrawals with more zanex and seroquel

2014 returned to UK, mainly to get treatment getting off meds

doctor advised to taper seroquel over a few weeks, severely ill and bed bed-bound so reinstated it, 2015 tapered seroquel myself slower over a few months, was off it 2 months and was too ill so went on olanzapine, became zombie and too tired to get out of bed, went back on seroquel, very depressed so went back on venlafaxine, didnt work so doctor swapped to zoloft became very agitated so back on venlafaxine

June 2016 - felt strong enough to begin tapering again, started what I thought was a slow taper of all meds, 2016 July Not had any alcoholic drink since this date,

2016 October completely off diazepem, 2017 Feb completely off seroquel, 2017 March completely off proponanlol, 2017 April (day before birthday) completely off venlafaxine, OFF ALL MEDS 11/4/2017, was fine for nearly 3 months and then delayed withdrawal hit,

supplements taking: turmeric capsules, NiaCel (nicotinamide riboside), Vit B12 sublingual, Vit B3, Vit B6, Vit B1, apple cider vinegar, manuka umf 10 honey, camu camu powder, melatonin when needed, epsom salt baths, juices, smoothies,

yes I think best not to try it, only supplements I use are magnesium citrate, turmeric capsules, slow release melatonin when needed, also epsom salt bath every night, vegetable juices and smoothies and just started making bone broths, almost every other supplement i have tried has had negative effects, if trying any start with a ultra small dose,

take care

I can't praise Relora enough. It really helped me through the rough times.

10 years of ssri and finally tapered off in 2 years. Off Celexa by jan/28/2014 and off benzos by March/6th/2014 after only two months use and still experiencing withdrawal symptoms.

I have been good, fully recovered from Lexapro and Cipro use. I don't think about withdrawal anymore. The answer was TIME and GOD in both cases. For those that are new to withdrawal, don't fret, you will be OK. I know the beginning months are scary but it won't last forever. Feel free to ask me questions as I am sure you will have many..especially doubts within yourself.

Aeroman

How did you come off cipro the second time?

Lexapro 1/17 - 3/17 10 mg. Switched to Elavil 3/27/17 10 mg

Upped to 20 mg June 5, 2017 3 days, back down to 10mg June 8

Up again to 20 mg June 12, 2017 4 days, back down to 10 June 16

9/17 dropped to 9.5 mg

11/17 dropped to 9.3mg

2/18/17 dropped to 8.8 mg

February 14/2018 Adverse reaction to zofran pill at clinic

10/7/19 8.48 mg

12/22/19 7.3 mg, 2/7/20 6.5 mg, 5/23/20 5.84 mg, 5/7/23 .70 mg

No one can answer that. I learned really quick that I could not put a timeline on my recovery. Plus, everyone's timeline is different.
