Do any of you guys think I will recover from this drug hell and gain most of my faculties back? I feel so scared with all the brain damage I am reading that antipsychotics do, besides the already damaging effects of blocking dopamine in terms of motivation and affect, concentration and intellect, and the way they affect the physical side so much weight gain and metabolism, glucose, nephrotoxicity, endocrine disorders, severely comprised immune system, cardiological, you name it, there really isn't anything in the body they don't affect severely and negatively, and I am saying that coming in drug naive and having read countless papers, meta analysis and guidelines on the damage.

Nobody can foretell your future, Jay. You know that staying on the drugs will keep you where you are. Which way do you want to go: Stay on the drugs with their adverse effects or chance probable recovery with minimal or no drugs?

Well, whatever your brain cell situation is then, you will have to deal with it.

Antipsychotics are rough on the body and nervous system, we know that. If your goal is to minimize drugs, whether you'll have long-term effects from your drug history is a moot point. The eventual effect on you is unknowable, it may be nothing. We can't predict how your situation will turn out, you'll forge ahead regardless.

Thanks alto, sound advice.

I have switched from seroquel xr to normal seroquel and reduced it to 100mg, for three nights in a row I had an awakening at 4.00 am having gone to bed at 11, and I used to sleep until 9.00 am. The doctor suggested I take the seroquel later at night to avoid waking up, which is what I did tonight (I am off to bed soon.) He didn't agree with me that it not being xr was causing the awakening, but I still think that could very well be the case. Let's hope taking it later at night won't cause any sleep issues. There isn't an xr at 100mg anyway, only at 150mg and 50mg.

" In general, benzodiazepines (triazolam, alprazolam, and lorazepam) should not be given for more than 3 months and quetiapine >150 mg/day should not be given for more than 2 months because of difficulties in discontinuing these drugs."

Very disappointed to read this from an excellent special article. Maybe I 've tapered too quickly... Anyone into reading research and guidelines should have a look at this if on antipsychotics.

From 200mg xr to 100mg ir, the doctor said the different formulation xr vs ir is not important, then why was I on xr to begin with... this guy seldom makes sense.

I maintained 200mg for a couple of months.

I wasn't aware that seroquel was particularly problematic in terms of discontinuation, more so than other antipsychotics due to it's profile.

All regularly ingested psychotropics may cause withdrawal syndrome. I believe we've discussed this before.

Your sleep is probably disturbed because you are reducing by large amounts, which we do not recommend. Immediate-release Seroquel comes in 25mg tablets, there is no necessity for decreasing it by 100mg at a step. If you add 25mg to the 100mg, you might sleep better. The decision is up to you. Your system might adjust in a week or so.

At 100mg, you might be taking enough for saturation, but if I were you, I'd be much more cautious from here.

As much as I want to get off this terrible poison that is paliperidon injection, I assume I shouldn't aim at lowering the dosage for that too in the coming month...

Aren't you getting risperidone injections? The dosage of the injection would have to be lowered by the doctor at the time of injection.

How do you feel when the injection is wearing off? When are you due for another one?

Actually it's been 5 months ago that I switched to paliperidon injectable. I went to see the doctor today, ppphhhh... He said I should try more, whatever... I am very aware of how these meds are sabotaging me, the despair, the brain fog, and the insufferable feelings of lack of motivation, emotions, pleasure and concentration which can flare up to be full blown anxiety attacks where I just feel insufferable.

If you don't feel withdrawal symptoms towards the end of the palperidone period, you could request a reduction in dosage so as to gradually go off that, too.

If the anxiety occurs at any particular time of day, it could be an adverse effect from one or more of your drugs, which would not be at all surprising. Daily drug schedule and symptom notes can help identify this.

Hey guys, I jotted down my symptoms today but I 've misplaced them. All in all I had an overwhelming anxiety, brain fog, tiredness and I was very angry, but I managed to walk for a while which ever so slightly calmed me down. I also saw my pets that my mom has at her home now (my old place) which has a garden. I don't know if it's the oxycontin not being blocked by APs or spiritualy the love I have for them, but it's the only thing I actually feel, this peace being with them. I think I might have started developing some brain damage from the use of these drugs...

I 've reduced seroquel from 400mg to 100 mg over a 6 month period but about two weeks into my last cut I am having jerky movements of one leg or, less often both, this happens shortly after I 've taken my nightly dose and lasts for about twenty minutes.

Perhaps you can spend more time with your pets? That sounds like something that soothes your nervous system.

Thanks will do. I also need to see another doc. If I hadn't lost almost all my motivation and much of my feelings I would urgently seek another doctor, but somehow it seems,  I don't know I am really tired from all this ordeal and the meds are hindering my recovery and have subdued my spirit. To some extent I am still me, but to an overwhelming large extent I am not myself anymore, I can't understand things as well as I used to and I can't think clearly. I guess the best way to put it is to say I have been overwhelmed by this ordeal.

4 went to my former house, spent some time with my pet and my mom, continued brain fog, dizziness and unease, not helped by the fact that my family can't see how much the meds and this shrink is hurting me, although they stand behind me to quit them.

6 back home, tired and unable to focus on pretty  much anything.

(sorry for the multiple posts I guess I should have made this one post).

Jay, the point of the daily notes is to see your symptom pattern before and after you take the drugs. Please include times of day you take it and dosage for each drug.

I take both the gabapentin 300mg and the seroquel 100mg at night at around 11, that's why I haven't included them. I am also on the injectable.

Please keep daily notes of times of day you take your drugs, their dosages, and your symptoms throughout the day. Post 24 hours of notes at a time in this topic, in a simple list format with time of day on the left and notation (symptom or drug and dosage) on the right. This can show if your symptoms are adverse effects from one of your drugs.

Will do, I am rather overwhelmed now with the dosage decrease of seroquel although it's been close to three weeks that I am down to 100mg. It's tough to focus.

It's hard to describe the overwhelming crippling feeling while on these drugs and tapering off them, which I 've started to do. It's a constant agony with loss of motivation, lack of feeling, racing thoughts, lethargy, lack of concentration and dysphoria. It reads better than it feels. One cannot put to words the despair one feels at times. I am a shadow of my former self.

These drugs are poisons, the more you are on them the worse you feel and coming off them is utter misery. I have yet to stabilise on the 100mg of seroquel, I think I might have cut down to abruptly going from 200 to 100 mg. Lesson taken I will make smaller cuts in the future. My desire to be off them is of them and lessen the damage they do to me is what motivated me obviously.

Love and peace to all in your struggles.

Alto has requested daily symptom notes.  There is a very good reason that she has asked for these notes.

Providing symptom notes is considered so important that a member can receive a warning point if they do not provide them when asked.  See from what-will-get-you-warned-or-banned:

Being uncooperative, specifically, not keeping notes and reporting your symptom pattern when requested to do so.

Keeping daily notes of your symptoms, when you take your drugs, and their dosages is quite simple. In many situations, particularly when you're taking multiple drugs, we need this information to tell if a drug is causing an adverse reaction or if an adjustment is working.

If, after requested, you avoid doing this, we can't help you. If you persist in withholding this essential information, you may receive more than one warning point, up to being banned from the site (4 warning points).

Ok, I will provide my symptom notes. I raised my dosage back up 150 again, I couldn't handle it, maybe it was because I wasn't taking the xr.

If you switch from the XR form to immediate-release, you have to take immediate-release at least twice a day.

Thanks for that, you are right, that's my understanding as well. I told my doctor why are we switching from the xr to the ir, I don't like it because I am accustomed to having seroquel for longer in my blood and this might cause withdrawal to go to the ir, and he said it will make you less lethargic during the day the ir. Then why did you give me the xr to begin with I said? I don't think he replied. I need a new doctor. :( Btw, I am in the process of arranging an appointment with a new doctor.

Hi Jay78,

So you have already switched from XR to IR?

Have you begun to split the dose into 2 yet?

And then, yes, NOTES are hopefully forthcoming?  And especially when doing switches, or changes, they can be really helpful to us, when you ask questions, or have new symptoms, etc.

Just keep them simple.  Time(s) on the left, and just about anything else on to the right of the time.  Medication(s) by name and dose.  Supplements by name and dose.  Activities.  Symptoms(and some will rate symptoms on a scale of 1-10, after a brief symptom description).  Sleep.  And anything else you think might be important for us to be aware of, to the right of the time.

Then post 24 hours at a time, right here.  Happy Holidays to you too!

Best,

L, P, H, and G,
