Taking part of a capsule

Just reading through some supplement threads and seeing people mention taking half  a capsule etc and wondering how people go about splitting the dose of supplements that come in capsule form. Do you just open them and eat half the powder or whatever is inside on a spoon or in a drink or something? Is there a special way to do it in general or for particular supplements.

Tips would be useful as I'm trying new supplements with a very upset sympathetic nervous system and want to go slow so I don't do myself more harm.

2010: Adverse reaction to citalopram/suicidal.

2010-2014: Venlafaxine doses 75-150-300. Began to cause heart palpitations.

2014: Adverse side effects from Sertraline

2014: Adverse reaction to Mirtazipine/suicidal. CT withdrawal.

2014: Accute adverse reaction to one prozac pill. Body & brain went on fire. Full WD

2015: Half dose of Lorazepam restarted all the WD symptoms.

2017: Bad reaction to stopping propranolol beta blockers. Violent shaking WD again.
2023: Severe adrenaline surges triggered by low frequency sound/vibration next door. Heart rate going dangerously high so now 25mg atenolol.

Current Supplements: Omega 3 & Vitamin C, magnesium.
Current other medications: Metformin (type ii diabetic), Lymecycline (for rosacea), Atenolol 25mg.

Hi, AprilShowers.

When it comes to supplements, precise measurement isn't that important. You can carefully open a capsule (apply a little pressure and twist the end off) and dump out some of the contents on a piece of paper, measuring by eye how much.

You could either put the capsule back together and take what's left in the capsule, throwing the excess powder in the trash, or pour the excess powder in another empty capsule to use.

Empty gelatin or vegetarian capsules can be purchased at natural food stores, supplement stores, some pharmacists, or ordered online. The larger capsules labeled "0," "00," or "000" are the easiest for human fingers to manage.

Whether you want to put loose powder in a liquid to drink or a food like applesauce depends on the powder. Some ingredients taste bad, some are fairly fragile, and others, such as magnesium, can be mixed in a lot of things.

This is not medical advice. Discuss any decisions about your medical care with a knowledgeable medical practitioner.
