excuse Paxil CR : Successfully out of loop

Recommended Posts

I just made a clean exit from SSRI (Paxil CR) for almost 3 years down the line.

My journey was really tough. I can help you guyz for the same.

I almost studied every corner of Brain and this chemical pathway. I had to first understand about this chemical behavior in order to overcome its effects.

I had initially failed twice, once cold turkey during initial 3rd month and 2nd failed instance was after 1.5 years.

Doctors never say anything about its ill effects. Later I realized I had to think in terms of Neurosurgeon level.

One of the danger zones which I encountered during withdrawal symptoms are Heart Palpitations.

Below list might sound crazy but those were the ones which helped me out of SSRi loop. I can write a book upon these lists, each point has its own significance,

Continuous Discipline

Constant alertness about thoughts and behavior

Should completely avoid negative thoughts

Should not pull panic button for palpitations as it is temporary.

Keep moving until light comes.

Walking is must : Around 10km / day

Exercise

Yoga

Completely stop internet browsing/downloads/

Breathing rituals

Completely go Vegan (Except for few fish).

Meditation is must

Sleep well atleast 8 hours

Have a healthy diet

Drink smoothies every week

Ban coffee

Initiate Diet plan every month.

Stop music’s

Stop internet time (being in front of PC)

Stop playing CG games.

Go to office early and come early

Focus on work to deviate unwanted thoughts

Watch out for CBT and other health related videos (TTC helped me a lot)

Positive self-talk

Positive Affirmations before sleep

Laugh at least once : Watch out for jokes/comedy

Eat Fish once or twice a week.

Completely avoid world affair

Don’t think of future

Watch out for stressors and reduce stressors

Reduce salt and sugar intake.

For neuroplasticity – avoid all sorts of stress and negativity.

Take good care of self.

Incrementally grow.

What out for emotions.

Have military instinct.

Spend time with nature.

Reduce sedentary life keep moving.

Do what would make me happy.

Stop whinning.

Reduce anger and accept it.

Reduce sugar intake,

Avoid coke or any such drinks.

Be mindful.

Drink lot of water.

Eat seeds/dry fruits/walnuts/all kinds of nuts

Eat fruits in office.

Avoid Traffic if possible.

Relax your mind and body.

Watch out for Brain fogs.

Circadian rhythm / Natural clock should be in proper sync.

Intake saffron.

Eat Mackerel/Sardines/Tuna/Salmon for Omega 3.

Eliminate Smoking

Eliminate drinking alcohol

Eliminate Poor diet

Spend time exposing skin to Sun.

Drink lime honey water mixed with Turmeric early morning.

Last but not the least one of the most important No Porn and No Fap.

I may have missed out few points. Let me know if you need any road maps.

After successfully quitting SSRi I met my Doctor and he was really happy with my exit journey.

2 years off since taking SSRi, I just came here to say my positive story because I had visited this site during my SSRi intake.

EDIT:

The medication which a depressed person consumes tricks the Brain generating chemicals from their own, but one should have the will power to override all the chemical settings at any cost.

The mental trauma never supports this agony and finally one could fall back to medications again.

Heart Palps one would never knew was it a issue from Brain or Heart, this is like impending doom almost like death knocking the door.

Fundamental story is rewire the Brain and its chemical pahtways so that the Neuroplasticity kicks in to restore old conditions.

What really matters is determination/ tightly bound WILL power.

Never fall back.

Light comes at great cost.

Cheers to all..!!

How long were you on the medication and what dose?

Paxil 20mg started around 2013 dropped to 10 mg at some point dropped to 5mg for 1 week then C/T August 2016.

Buspar 10 mg 2x daily started 2013 fluctuating amounts.

Tried cylexa 1 week at beginning of August 2016.

Tried wellbutrin 1 week after cylexa stopped both.

I have been off all meds for around 4- 5 years.

Hey you raised some great points . Did you suffer from Anhedonia and Sexual dysfunction at any point ? Did side effects continue post withdrawal ? What sort of side effects did you suffer .

Lastly any supplements that you took , that helped ?

Nopes, I dint suffer from Anhedonia or any sort of dysfunction. My libido was strong when ever induced. But these medications would make one suffer from ED and SD which is normal.

Did side effects continue post withdrawal ?

That's a great question. Yes indeed to a great extent, one of the major side effect was palps.

Palps they come when ever being happy, neutral, sad, it was a mental trauma.

It was almost like getting a heart attack everytime they visit.

Second side effect was getting angry or depressed for no reason. One should maintain vigilance every time.

Third electrical jerks in Spine and Brain this is also kinda terrifying experience.

I dint take any supplements, I preferred natural ones.

Almonds

Walnuts

Cashews

Hazel Nuts

Pine Nuts

Pumpkin seeds

Chia seeds

Brazil Nuts

Pekan Nuts

Pine Nuts

Apricot Kernel

Melon Seeds

Those were the kickass combo supplements each one of them helped recreate required Neurochemicals.

Lemme not go into depth basically Brain has two stuffs Grey matter and White matter.

The following minerals are very much required for Neuroplasticity.

Calcium

Iron

Magnesium

Manganese

Phosphorus

Potassium

Sodium

Zinc

and few other Vitamins.

Those list of natural supplements gives enough fuel to Neurons to start manufacturing their own Serotonin and few or major essential chemicals. :)

why the No music?

and why the no porn and no fap is so important?

About me ------------------------ College student with a history of anxiety, excessive worrying and health anxiety.

April 2014 - May 2015----------    Prozac 20mg On and Off.  Second time on it I developed apathy, changes in personality, asexuality.

May 2015  -   July 2015-----------------  Tappering off prozac. Still no feelings, anhedonia, apathy, no libido, asexuality.

Current symptoms--------  pssd (asexuality in my case). Anxiety and depression developed some months afer stopping prozac, could have been caused by obsessing and beating myself up too much when I found myself unable to like girls again. The best thing to do with pssd (which in my case is asexuality) is accept it and move on.

why the No music?

and why the no porn and no fap is so important?

Depending upon the kind of music it agitates the mind either to live in the past or it creates an imaginary world inside mind which makes us not to live in the present moment.

Living in the present moment is really important during withdrawal.

Most of the valuable Neurochemicals required for a person are present in the male reproductive fluid.

Porn again agitates central nervous system and peripheral nervous system especially messing up with the Dopamine receptors in Brain.

If dopamine levels are messed up then the following occurs:

Diminished libido, which leads to sluggish erections,

Decreased risk-taking

Incremental anxiety levels

combined with a tendency toward irritation,

one would become lone wolf, anti social.

Focusing issues with Mind and concentration with memory problems

Fapping leads to over stimulation of sympathetic nervous system, as in excessive solo fap with no stimulation of Parasympathetic nervous system are the leading causes of anxiety and depression.

More over fap leds to jerking off with vital reproductive fluid = Most powerful and potent anti-depressant manufactured by nature.!!

So no Porn and no Fap helps restoring Neurochemicals from Testicles mid pathway through spine and finally towards Brain.

Well recovering process happened gradually with incremental positive results.

100% recovery took around an year.

1 - 6 months = Horrible experiences with 10% recovery / month.

7 - 9 = Once mastering the withdrawal process its like 5% recovery / month. (Better results)

10 - 12 = Gained confidence most of the symptoms started to fade away. (Damm new life started)

Don't forget to let the sunlight in your eyes. Don't stare at the sun! ha! ha! I mean forget the sunglasses if you can. Groundbreaking study of University of Washington proved that no sunglasses for at least an hour every day and a B-complex(high dose) with folic acid battles depression. Nature's Way brand makes B-100 complex that has the actual vites that were used in the study. That's the one i take. Also on cloudy days or days spent indoors I religiously use a "happy light" by Veriluxe. You don't need the deluxe model the 99.00 job will do just fine. You can also buy a Veriluxe light on ebay, just make sure it is one that puts out 7000 to 10,000 lux and is one they still sell the replacement bulb for.Forget about a light visor as they don't put out enough lumens and are in-effective. I use the light for an hour and a half on those days where no sun. Also keep the light no more than 14 inches from your face to give max results, I use mine about 12 inches away from my eyes. There is a book called "when your body gets the blues" that explains the whole study.buy it on ebay cheap! Good read. Also the light has no harmful rays. I would not be alive without it! Really! Good luck!

1997 tried zoloft quit after 10 days     paxil for 2 weeks  1998 prozac for 2 months  1998 welbutrin for 2 weeks                1998 celexa 20 mg. a day for 2 years     2000 celexa 40 mg. a day for 3 years 2015 celexa 60 mg until august 2016      Titrated down to 50mg. august 12  2016 Titrated down to 45 mg. september 12 2016. October 2016 to 2017 Titrated over the last 10 months to August 2017, currently 17mg celexa.  carbamazapine  400 mg. started july 2016

Tryptophan > 5-HTP > Serotonin > Melatonin

5-Hydroxytryptophan (5HTP)

The more bright sun exposure you get, the more serotonin you will produce eventually more amount of Melatonin is produced. All these are done under the cover of your skin.

Now from your Eyes..

When the sun is out bright light entering the eye getting inside retina cones and rods causes light-sensitive receptors containing melanopsin to have a communication directly with the suprachiasmatic nucleus (SCN) to the brain. SCN communicates with the pineal gland, which either releases melatonin in darkness, or stops production of melatonin in brightness.Melatonin is the hormone that makes you sleep. The brighter the sunshine, and long the exposure the more serotonin the brain will produce.

This is why we have seasonal depression for people how are less exposed to Sun during winter/rainy.

TTC = The Teaching Company

www.thegreatcourses.com/

They offer a great amount of expertly produced courses.

I took help of Mental health courses. Robert Sapolsky, Sam Wang were cool professors.

Tapering.

Reduced Paxil by literally by half from 25mg to 12.5mg for 2 months.

Later after 2 months, reduced 12.5mg to almost 6mg (lowest possible break) not by accurate measurement for 3rd month.

Started to take 6mg every alternate days for 2 weeks.

Later 6mg once every 3 days for 2 weeks.

So tapering went on for nearly 4 months.

Coming off these medications took the hell out of me.

Guess what.. my exit journey made me to study certain areas of Chemistry to Psychology, Genetics, Astrology, Cosmology, Geology, Theology, Zoology and finally landed with Quantum Physics.

Quantum Physics helped me to knock my Spiritual doors.

My Anxiety lead me to study Sanskrit language and made a kick start to Vedic studies.

I must be thankfull to my days of stress, depression and anxiety which helped me to uncover most valuable stuffs on the planet the Vedas. :)

Lots of time spending in traffic which had led to over sensitivity of ears and Irritation to honking. This has lead to anxiety and panic attacks.

Never had any insomnia since I used to spend lot of time walking in sun, and I used to do lots of exercise atleast 10km/day and 25 floors/day. This was one of the ways to combat any issues that would occur in the night.

Vedic literature are most encryptive then any of the deciphering algorithm ever combined. Most of the real meaning would get diluted and exact meaning would be lost when read in different language other then predominant Sanskrit.

Greetings from Vedic explorer. :)

I believe a lot of the scriptures were also either destroyed or have gone missing? I suppose you are also a strong believer that what hardships we have just experienced are a part of our past karmas we needed to pay. It will ultimately lead to a more conscious self? Either way, glad to have a friend on this journey :)

Holy smokes, invasion of various countries and religions eventually lead to destruction of various manuscripts. Encrypted things which were meant to be not understood if went to wrong hands all these were deleted assuming meaningless.

Health issues specially mental health going for a toss doesnt happen by chance.

Its the foreplay of our Karmic impulses and Samskaric (the imprints left on the mind by past experiences (often in past lives) that then condition future responses and behavior) responses which are fore destined. Many folks here may not agree with that. Its left to our free will and choices.

But the truth is out there in Vedas and Upanishads.

Once out of this issue one would have grown higher in spiritual ladder. Some would keep fighting to climb the ladder until their times shows up they are forced to learn from their mistakes across time and space which makes us more aware and conscious with our daily life course and actions preventing further bad karmas to pile up. :)

Cheers..!!

Healthful exposure to sunlight can help elevating mood by keeping healthful levels of serotonin resulting in balancing the circadian rhythm.

When eyes are directly exposed to sunlight, one of the brain’s center hypothalamus gets activated which takes care of body clock and is also the nexus for our nervous

system, immune system, and endocrine system. Balanced exposures to light and darkness are the key to creating circadian rhythms for a healthy body and good mind.

Serotonin levels are known to increase with brighter light. Healthful normal circadian rhythms reveal high morning cortisol which is an adrenal stress hormone generally decreases as the day goes on.

Lowest levels are in the evening when melatonin responsible for sleeping.

Unbalanced cortisol levels tends to dysregulation of the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis which plays a central role in the pathophysiology of anxiety and depressive disorders.

These takes deeper understandings of biology, chemistry and psychology of Anxiety/Depressions disorders. :)

Well now that you mention the no porn and no fap in your opening post, I have a question? Did you notice a sudden increase on your libido or on cravings for sex / porn / masturbation? Could you leave the AD and stay off fap simultaneously? Given that I tended to have anorgasmia while on paxil, leaving it got me a big surge on the urges and wasn't certainly tough enough to withstand it for a few months. I'm out of it after getting K.O. on the subject but at first leaving both the AD and the fap felt like a intimidating double whammy.

Name LostInTheWoods evokes both the feeling of getting stranded, forsaken and alone in an alien, hostile environment and the chance to experience awareness, tranquility and self-discovery during the experience. Just call me Lost in the posts.

February 2012. After a crisis, a crippling anxiety that culminated in a panic attack. Started 20 mg Paxil and Clonazepam.

Clonazepam left quickly in the 2nd attempt.

About about a year on 20 mg, begin tapering.

June 2014, after several weeks on 5 mg and trying to dose down, went CT.

May 2015.Anxiety came back again, went to psychiatrist back. Fluoxetine was tried and left because of bad reaction, returned to paroxetine. Start tapering in mid 2016.

December 2016. After like 2 months of going 2,5 mg, stopped paroxetine.

Truth to be told, descended into a downward spiral of caffeine, alcohol and masturbation.

January  26, 2017. Wave with some tinnitus that was fixed by a visit to the ENT.

April 21, 2017. Acid reflux at night was a stressor that triggered another wave.Vices have been put into check and only a drink or two a week remain.

By May 7 stabilized with a little anxiety left and some pains.

Well it depends upon what condition the person started to take medications. If one was stuck to sex/porn/fab on a daily basis for weeks/months all the reward circutary would have messedup to its core. Dopamine Dysregulation and over sensitization of Neuronal firings. Dopamine receptors can identify pleasure sensing neurochemical but it cannot identify what a porn is. Over stimulation would always lead to much more stimulation further messing up certain Neurochemical pathways specially the Dopamine which causes imbalances in cortisol productions eventually leading issues with immune system and peripheral systems, if this is happening chronically one would have become totally insane and psychotic. Staying off with such stimulants would help in coming off from AD and staying off from AD as well as from fap one might physically fight against the odds but mentally due to over sensitization certain areas of Brain would have become numb its just like walking on a grass with same route all the grass would have shaved off this makes a person to have more stimulation's. If one knows how to redirect the creative energy (urges) it would be much more pleasurable then actual sex/fap but one should have complete control of mind and senses. In short celibacy should be practiced with great care because dormant forces gets fully activated. Many parts of our mind are masked and are quite inactive due to impulses of desire and sensuous pleasures. Celibacy has to come from natural Conscious choice. The Celibate brain has tremendous will power, they get the power to control one individual. Celibacy is not for everyone. Celibacy makes us more mindfull and more aware. To tap the power of no fap and no AD one should have a clear cut higher goals to achieve in life.

Excuse do you have any tips for trying to regulate sleep again. I can go to sleep fine but don't go into deep sleep. Also my fatigue is horrendous at the moment. Is there any foods that help with fighting fatigue. I am trying to cure everything naturally rather than take supplements. Thanks

historygal it depends upon various states of your mental and body health conditions and many neurotransmitter systems have been involved in the control of sleep and wakefulness as well as your lifestyle.

There are many things to be fine tuned when it comes to sleep and deep sleep and fatiques.

The most important ones are the Circadian body clock and mix of Neuroanatomy + Neurochemistry of your Brain condition.

One should also understand the Neurophysiology of sleep too.

Few things to consider ar :

Temperature of room.

What you been doing during day time?

What would you do just before sleep ?

Daily records of sleep timings !

Do you listen to song before bed ?

Watch movies just to get mentally strained and go to bed?

Lighting conditions ?

Noise conditions ?

Do you worry about anything?

What is the metabolic level of gap & rate between dinner and sleep ?

One has to tweak right from their Conscious to Sub-Conscious Mind to regulate happy sleep. The amount of O2 and Co2 levels in body also matters a lot.

Few tips are :

Depending upon your body temprature maintain good temperature.

One should sweat by doing exercises this causes good sleep.

Maintain strict bed time everyday stick to rules 7-8 hrs/night.

Dont bug your mind/ears by listening to music before sleep.

Dont stimulate your Brain by watching movies before bed time.

Switch off all the fancy lights go complete dark, I prefer lamps.

Make sure you are noice free.

Lower your anxiety levels this will for sure help in good sleep.

Leave a gap of 2-3 hours before eating and sleeping.

Try taking light foods, high metabolic foods causes heat and other reasons to disturb sleep.

lower metabolic rate, there is less metabolic heat.

Most importantly do meditation just before sleep this is the real mantra.

Before meditation have a decent hot both so that temperature regulations causes natural and quick slep.

Do not nap in your day time.

Lower you Brain temperature (dont fire unnecessary neuronal firings)

Trying to cure everything naturally is a very good idea but it takes great determination, courage and will power. :)

Coming back to fatique, there are lot many things to think in this area. Do you find fatiqued after having your sleep ? Is it like you dint have sleep at all even sleeping for many hours ?

Have you been chronically fatique ?

Completely cut down your cofee intake.

Completely cut down artificial sugar intakes.

Completely cut down transfat or any highly saturated fat intakes.

Excuse I am so thankful and grateful for your reply back. You are healed and you don't have to come back and help so this is so appreicated. I will try all of the above techniques. I have an issue with putting my phone down before bed which cannot be helping my circadian cycle.

I like you have started to look at neuro-plasticity,neuro-genesis and intermittent fasting in which I posted. It's so important for people to understand how the brain works and to address the brain first and foremost, I think more people on here would benefit from studying neuro-science. I have always known this was the route I was going to go down. Although I must admit I have had many pitfalls wiTh this journey.

I am currently 3.5 years off of 1 anti-depressent which was Prozac. I took it for 6 months, never taken anything else at all whatsoever. I have an extremely sensitive system and I am now this year concentrating on diet, mind and body.

I have cut out caffeine and have limited sugar, I have this occasionally as my brain seems to crave carbs and sugar worse than before. If I have a little it stops me from going overboard then feeling like crap.

I am struggling in the last 9 months with chronic fatigue as well as histamine issues.

I have never suffered with fatigue until WD and basically I go to sleep and wakeup feels like I never went to sleep. I feel weak and exhausted. I try and do an hour of exercise every day and it is hard.

I feel low in energy despite trying to eat a vegan diet, I don't eat meat a lot and I have reduced dairy and wheat.

I sleep for 7-hours to 8 hours but it's the quality. My brain cannot go into deep sleep, and I am easily awoken with my cortisol levels which go haywire in the morning.

I am just trying to find natural ways to help the fatigue and sleep. It really is the worst thing for me.

I get that..!!

One of the most powerfull natural medicine you need now is to have you Brain membrane levels do its optimal work, in short remove most of the toxins in Brain and Mind by doing Meditation.

Try an hour of meditation just before sleep and an hour of meditation just after you wake up.

This should fix the issue, I have over come all these. There was a point even in my sleep I used to feel like I was awake.

Out of 7-8 hours of sleep its good to cross 50 - 80 min of deep sleep. Meditation does wonders when it comes to Brain fixes.

Shutdown with all the light stimulants during night. In close dark room Pineal Gland kicks into action for various regulations.

Fasting once a month without drinking water, fasting only by drinking smoothies, one day by drinking fruit juices helped me a lot. Thanks to cold press juicers.

Full recovery generally goes around 6 to 12 months, so dont you worry..!!

Do what makes you happy from inside this is a kinda antidote to fatique.

During recovery no fap and no porn is the ultimate medicine for fatique.

"The mind is the king of the senses and the breath is the king of the mind. And if the nerves, nervous system which is about 6,000 miles in our system has a rhythmic vibration then that rhythmic vibration of the nerves becomes the king of the breath." ~BKS Iyenger

Control your Breath.

Breath controls your Mind.

If both are controlled Brain is automatically controlled.

One is actually controlling the flow of Prana (Cosmic force).

Prayer also does wonders.

Hope that helps. :)
