As you stabilize, and you appear to be stabilizing don't you think, those techniques will work for you.  Have a good day, Dave! -- Rosetta

Short answer, yes...probably...very slowly. Long answer, depends on the day and time of day. Early Morning...hell now, late morning...for sure, early afternoon...nope, evening...probably.

What about the multivitamin?

I have thought about that, but it seems to be I fell better for a few hours after I take it...maybe it takes a while to hit? I have thought the same with the caffeine from the Dr Pepper, but again seems to correlate with feeling better, not worse.

I wonder if you could take one of these at a time and split the dose between breakfast and lunch to see if one of them is "wearing off" and causing a rise in anxiety. Or, could it be something concerning lunch? Just an idea. :)

I've pointed out several times that it is going to take several months for anything to start to happen.  It is very typical to be all over the place while waiting to stabilize.  Your body is in a highly sensitive state right now, so anything can set off a wave of symptoms, and that is going to be the norm for quite a while.

Another question, sorry. I was wondering if your info on this comes from personal experience, seeing other on this site, or something else. Just everything you read about SSRIs say "4-8 to kick in" and "in 4-8 weeks you will for sure see improvements" so when you are past that and still feeling crappy and wildly unstable, you question whether you can ever get relief. This is the only place I have seen people talk in terms of several months and/or years, and I wonder if people really do get better when they hold for months.

all the "trying" was likely making my problems worse. Wish I was on Zoloft again instead of Paxil just because that is probably what my brain thinks it needs, making the stabilization even harder. However, I have been on Paxil now for so long, a switch would likely cause more harm, so I wait in no man's land, hoping my brain can calm down.

I understand that thinking. I also “tried” to get stable for the last 10 months, and was switched to zoloft for 4 of those months. but even the psychiatrist said that it seemed like i was doing better on the effexor (which is what i was on for 17 years) so i switched back. and that’s what i’m currently on and going to stick with until i can eventually get off.

it sucks that that so much time was wasted with all of the trial and error with different meds, but we can’t blame outselves. we did what we thought was right at the time to “fix our illness”. My parents put me on effexor when I was 6. I am now 24. So if I can keep punching and make it to the other side, then i’d say most anyone can.

6 years old- 23 years old Effexor XR 75-150mg

March-May 2017  3-month taper of Effexor XR from 150mg down to 37.5 and then 0.

After a week reinstated Effexor at 37.5 and quickly worked your way up to 150.

Mid-May increased to 187.5.

End of July to mid-October switched to 50-200mg Zoloft

Nov. to present  switched back to Effexor 75 mg

March 29, 2018 Increased Effexor dose to 150mg (original dose).

May 12, 2018 Began a 10% AT LEAST monthly taper off of 150mg Effexor XR.

It comes from the practical experience of working with several thousand people on this site and several thousand  other people on PaxipProgress.com the forum I was associated with before SA.  So it comes from hard won experience.

There seems to a lot of information about withdrawing from ADs on the internet.  But when you look into it deeply it all leads back to the same limited number of sources, is miss quoted, taken out of context and very selectively referenced. To believe something that one person mentioned in passing on Icantthinkstraight.com  is the whole story and applies directly to your situation is a real long shot.  Yes, there is information to be found out there, but any reference needs to be taken as a starting point for personal research and fact checking and not blindly accepted as the truth.

20 years on Paxil starting at 20mg and working up to 40mg. Sept 2011 started 10% every 6 weeks taper (2.5% every week for 4 weeks then hold for 2 additional weeks), currently at 7.9mg. Oct 2011 CTed 15oz vodka a night, to only drinking 2 beers most nights, totally sober Feb 2013.

Since I wrote this I have continued to decrease my dose by 10% every 6 weeks (2.5% every week for 4 weeks and then hold for an additional 2 weeks). I added in an extra 6 week hold when I hit 10mg to let things settle out even more. When I hit 3mgpw it became hard to split the drop into 4 parts so I switched to dropping 1mgpw (pill weight) every week for 3 weeks and then holding for another 3 weeks.  The 3 + 3 schedule turned out to be too harsh so I cut back to dropping 1mgpw every 4 weeks which is working better.

Final Dose 0.016mg.     Current dose 0.000mg 04-15-2017

Hi Dave. I am impressed that you are continuing to work while going through this!  I used to be in RE sales as well.  I haven''t really been working since my Wellbutrin debacle, I didn't realize then that I was having withdrawal from the switch to Zoloft.  Looking back, it did take me 6 months to stabilize.  I'm starting to stabilize again, after my very short taper and then off for a whole day.  Except that I am having cortisol spikes in the morning and hope this will resolve itself soon!  I am hoping to go back to work so I have something to keep my mind occupied and myself tired as i'm aiming for tapering off of the Mirtazipine which I have been on for far too long!  After that I would like to taper down on the Zoioft as long as it doesn't interfere with my daily life.  It's ridiculous that I have been on it for 19 years!  I never would have had to take it if it wasn't for a stupid doctor prescribing it to me for pressure headaches I went through months of hell after flushing them down the toilet.  You are doing great keep up the good work! I see you are in Utah, I would love to move there someday, it's beautiful!

So in your experience from all you have seen, I will likely be able to stabilize on this given my history and then do a slow slide off of this garbage?

So good to hear that, thanks! If I am being honest I have seen very large improvements, but they are so slow and so uneven. Time is the true healer here, but boy I wish I could speed up time a bit, haha.

Hey, Dave,

How are you?  Hope you are doing ok.  I'm more or less ok today.  So, second day in a row I feel normal so far.  This is despite the fact that I did far too much yesterday.  I even saw Star Wars.

The point of the long description below is that I believe that if I had stayed at 10 mg of Zoloft after my baby was born I would have been ok (if I tapered properly later.)  Zoloft wasn't the drug I needed, and nonetheless,  I did feel good enough to live a normal and happy life for a long while -- until the doctor raised the Zoloft dose.

Nonethess, I want to tell you that when I was on Zoloft for the first few years my life was not all bad.  I think I did stabilize because I remember that I was happy at times.  My quality of life was much, much better than it is now.  Now that my mind is clear, and I understand the theory of WD, I often think back to those years, and I wish I had known to stop raising the Zoloft dose (and to stop drinking alcohol, too.)

It wasn't until 2016 that everything went to Hell in a way that I could see.  I was able go on vacation every year before that, and I enjoyed it.  I cooked, and baked cakes and did crafts with my daughter.  I took care of her when she was a baby and when she was 2, 3 and 4 with preschool being only 3 days a week.  My husband says I was a good mother, but that I was very confused and distracted from 2012-2015.  In 2015, I did business development 2 or 3 times a week.  That required me to dress up, wear make up, be there on time and interact with a lot of people I didn't know.  I had to be "on" when I was there.  I did it all, and I enjoyed it.  I even made new friends that I still have.  My point is that the first years that I took Zoloft my life improved slowly, but surely until I crashed in 2016.  I attributed most of my stress and confusion before 2016 to being a new mother.  I had no idea that the switch of medications destabilized my system.  Most of what I know about how I looked from the outside I know because by husband has told me -- I was not myself, I wasn't well, but I was happy and active.

There are many things I was able to do in 2015 that I could not do in 2016 -- not even in everyday private life.  When I think about it and try to reconstruct what was happening, I was drinking at the races all Summer in 2015, and by the time the Fall race season started, I figured out that the alcohol was affecting me negatively.  So, I didn't drink as much in November.  I would have to look back and see when the Zoloft doses were changed during 2015 and 2016, but 2016 is when I really felt terrible.  I didn't go to the races one single day that whole year.   I could not get ready to go, I didn't want to go, the entire idea made me feel anxious and upset.  That's the year I was prescribed Xanax, and it made everything worse.  So, I rarely took it and finally I didn't fill the prescription again.

I would like to think that the fact that I was able to be a good mother and enjoy life so soon after the cold switch from Celexa to Zoloft until 2016 -- five years after the switch -- means you will be fine.  As long as you do not make the mistakes I made, it's all going to be ok.

I am actually doing pretty dang good. Not quite "normal" but I think getting close. Artificial anxiety flares up a few times a day, but I didn't have much of a cortisol morning today and Saturday and Sunday were not bad at all. Hoping for no sicknesses or medication mess ups that set me back the last couple of times I have felt this way. Probably just a window and a wave may be coming, but overall I would say I am stabilizing SLOWLY.

Feeling more keyed up today. Maybe higher cortisol levels today from working out last night? Seems like working out maybe makes it worse in the short term, but maybe helps in the long run towards stability? I am overall better since I started working out, but it does make things a little worse the following day it seems.

I wonder the same thing. I’m an everyday gym goer and fitness finatic so not working out is not an option for me. I’ve found that waking/running/biking/swimming anything steady and rhythmic sometimes helps soothe me, but weight lifting and HIIT workouts are more difficult. I just started sitting in the sauna at the end of my workout, so will see if that helps.

I really hate it when you go to bed doing pretty well, only to wake to a cortisol morning that doesn't want to let up. I know I am on the right path, I have seen improvements in many areas, but I that doesn't make it any easier when you are in the thick of it. Had an overall pretty great day on Monday, and have had a slow return of anxiety since then. I think the windows can make going back into the grind feel worse. I wish a window would last for days or weeks, I need a break!

I'm right there with you.  I woke up feeling bad in the night and worse this morning.  But, this is healing.  Soon your windows will last for days.  You will get a break -- eventually.  Yes, it's a very cruel healing process, I know.  I hope you feel better this afternoon.  Hang in there!

We are in VERY similar boats it seems wildchild (though you have more youth on your side, I am 10 years your senior). Also, from what I saw on your thread you have kicked the Seroquel...GOOD FOR YOU! I have thought about doing the same with Zyprexa, but it is the one thing that has actually helped in all of this. Made me functional when I was waking drenched in sweat and shaking at 4AM every morning. So, forgive me if I am a little hesitant to taper that even though I am scared of the blood sugar and movement disorders the APs can cause, plus the weight gain is no joke. You having any windows? Times of day when you feel your old self coming back?

That’s ok, I had to take klonopin for 6 months straight to sleep even though I hated it at the same time. The seroquel I didn’t really use that frequently, just here and there so no major withdrawls from that one. The klonopin sucked getting off of, I stayed in my basement starting at the tv for 3 days. But even though it sucked, it wasn’t anywhere near as hard as beating the withdrawl from the AD. So all of that to say, it might suck to get off Zyprexia for a little bit, but maybe won’t be as bad as you think cause you haven’t been taking it long. I’m not an expert at all, just my thoughts. I thought klonopin was going to be a lot worse than it was. It had some nasty acute stuff with it and I had to really work on my sleep hygiene, but I haven’t really noticed any additional long term withdrawl problems with it like some people experience. My memory improved a lot.

Yes, I had some windows today! Middle of the day is typically my best time and I was able to go downtown and walk 3 dogs today and didn’t feel as agitated as yesterday. I’m still doing tms therapy in the morning so that forces me to get up and out of bed when I feel like ****. I don’t know if it’s realy doing anything or not, but it has given me a reason to get up and get going in the morning so that’s been a positive. The techs probably think I’m the biggest grump ever cause they see me at 9 every morning when I’m at my worst.

yea i could not deal with this on mirtazapine. it was so bad and i stopped going to the gym, which has been my biggest outlet through all of this. i opted for the seroquel over the klonopin for similar reasons. Some say Klonopin more addictive, but I didn’t care, it took me half the day to be able to function on seroquel without drooling. very sensitive to antipsychotics.

Twice monthly update

Symptoms I am struggling with:

Morning Anxiety - Still pretty hard to wake up to, but no where near where it has been at my worst. I have actually seen some improvement here in the last 2 weeks.

Inability to concentrate or enjoy things - This has improved, I am still a little obsessed with "how am I feeling" but I can watch TV and enjoy it and follow along in conversations much more.

IBS - This was resolved in December, then came my pill mixup and strep throat which made it come back for a month, but not seems settled again. No IBS for a week.

Oily Skin - I think this has gotten better, but really isn't an important issue either way, just something I have noticed.

Face Flushing and feeling "hot" - This has been almost non-existent, much better.

Pins and Needles - Very rarely do I get this anymore, usually only after I work out.

Negative Thoughts - Much better, I generally have a positive outlook for the future, except for my really anxious moments where I feel I am trapped forever.

Early Cortisol Awakenings - I have morning anxiety, but not usually until 7:15 - 7:20. And it is a strong annoyance, not a punch to the stomach.

Symptoms that has gone away or are greatly reduced:

Sensitivity to Sound - Gone, except for yesterday which was weird in that I had I slight version of this.

Sensitivity to Smell - Gone

Shaking (especially in the hands) - Pretty much gone, sometimes very faint in the morning.

Burning Eyes - Gone, and was actually a real problem at one point.

OCD/Intrusive Thoughts - Mostly gone again.

So I am attempting to lower the amount of sugar I consume a day (mostly from Dr Pepper). So I tried to substitute the morning Dr Pepper, with a Monster Energy Drink Zero Calories...seems like it was a bad idea, more anxiety today for sure than the last few. The combination of more caffeine, plus the b-vitamins they put in it, look like a bad combo for me in withdrawal. Lesson learned I guess, I would love to replace my morning Dr Pepper with just water, but then I just really drag through my morning.
