Mentor RachelSusan Posted December 16, 2018 Mentor Share Posted December 16, 2018 Hi DaveB, Yes I am feeling stable. The trick for me was finding the right amount to reduce. At the moment it's around 4% every four weeks, sometimes if I have a symptom I wait six weeks. It's hard to go this slow but I hate the crap feeling. This way it works in the background with not to many problems. Perhaps when you are feeling better you will join me on the very slow train to freedom. Rabe
Hi Dave...I sure understand...it is so nice to feel better...and then hard when a wave hits again. 57 minutes ago, DaveB said: Really tough day today, not sure why. I thought the last week I have shown some improvement, today has just been intense anxiety all day! Hi Dave...it is so nice to feel better...and then can be discouraging when a wave hits again huh? But the fact that you are having good times and then not is the waves and windows that lead to healing. So each wave and each window is a step in the right direction though I'm with you that it sure doesnt feel that way at times! The anxiety is so hard...but you have made it through these days before and you will get through this one as well....you will! 6 hours ago, DaveB said: Thanks Rabe, I really appreciate it! Just 6 hours ago you posted this which was when you were feeling better than now....even you thought you were improving! 😃 Another wave doesnt mean you aren't improving...just that your brain is again trying to readjust to the new circumstances r/t to the drugs...trying to put itself back together again. Moderator Emeritus Carmie Posted December 19, 2018 Moderator Emeritus Share Posted December 19, 2018 Hi Dave, Yes, the windows and waves pattern shows we are healing. As Gridley said, this is a journey of lots of ups and downs. We just need to take each moment as it comes and find distractions and use other coping strategies. We are going to have lots of waves in this journey, there is no way around it. It is forward movement though. Each day is a day closer to healing. DaveB
Well I had a pretty good Christmas Eve, followed up by a disaster Christmas Day. Can’t believe I am another year into this and really no better, I actually think I was better last year. That is disheartening, and makes me wonder if I can ever truly recover from this. 2008 - October 28th, 2016: Zoloft 50 - 150 mgs, settled on 50mgs from 2011 - 2016. Tom37
Dave, Of course you can recover from this. I think though with all your dose changes over the last couple of months you really need to sit tight on current dose and you should begin to stabilise. We both know it will be in weeks and months more than days but it does happen. Doesn’t mean you will be symptom free but you should be consistent in your daily symptoms which is what I’m looking for. I find the ‘unknown’ of tomorrow the hardest to deal with. I’m up and down with symptoms changing by either coming or going. I am lucky to have experienced two almost symptom free windows for a week at a time since holding so hopefully that means I’m on the right track but I question it every day. I know you have gone through a lot over the last year or two but you need to keep strong and keep fighting as you never know.....maybe tomorrow could be a better day? DaveB
Maybe Ashwaghanda has kind of turned on me? Maybe just a wave? @brassmonkey do you know anything about Ashwaghanda? Do you think if I just stay at my doses I will eventually stabilize? Looking back, I feel like I may have been getting pretty close to stable in the spring before I started the testosterone and dropping my Paxil dose. 2008 - October 28th, 2016: Zoloft 50 - 150 mgs, settled on 50mgs from 2011 - 2016. Moderator brassmonkey Posted December 29, 2018 Moderator Share Posted December 29, 2018 Do a Google search of the site. There's a lot of information. 20 years on Paxil starting at 20mg and working up to 40mg. Sept 2011 started 10% every 6 weeks taper (2.5% every week for 4 weeks then hold for 2 additional weeks), currently at 7.9mg. Oct 2011 CTed 15oz vodka a night, to only drinking 2 beers most nights, totally sober Feb 2013. Since I wrote this I have continued to decrease my dose by 10% every 6 weeks (2.5% every week for 4 weeks and then hold for an additional 2 weeks). I added in an extra 6 week hold when I hit 10mg to let things settle out even more. When I hit 3mgpw it became hard to split the drop into 4 parts so I switched to dropping 1mgpw (pill weight) every week for 3 weeks and then holding for another 3 weeks. The 3 + 3 schedule turned out to be too harsh so I cut back to dropping 1mgpw every 4 weeks which is working better. Final Dose 0.016mg. Current dose 0.000mg 04-15-2017 "It's also important not to become angry, no matter how difficult life is, because you can loose all hope if you can't laugh at yourself and at life in general." I haven’t done anything different, why would this all the sudden get so bad? That happens with this completely maddening syndrome. Often, I seem to discover a lot of healing has occurred after the symptoms have been very bad. The intense impulse to find "what went wrong" never goes away. It might fade over time just like all symptoms. The theory is that symptoms get bad because a change has occurred in the brain and the needed neurotransmitters are not available to accommodate the new situation. It's quite plausible isn't it? Nonetheless, we are used to learning from our mistakes, and suddenly feeling much worse drives the mind to analyze, analyze, analyze. It's usually futile, but your mind will do that anyway. Try to distract until you feel better, Dave. These are signs that your neuroplasticity is in action. That's a gift. I am still in awe that my brain can heal from this horrible, horrible damage!!
