Merged topics

Survey is easy, and should take about ten minutes.

London university in conjunction with CEP, London and with support of Baylissa Frederick , Recovery Road, is conducting a survey about dependence and withdrawal from benzos, A/Ds, opiod painkillers or other drugs of dependence.  Please, please, please reply.  this is an opportunity not to be missed whatever country you live in.  The results will be published in academic journals.  Make it known how big this problem is and what services are needed. UK responses will inform UK policy.  If we secure services in the UK other countries may follow the lead.  Please share in other support groups.

I've filled in this survey and hope that everyone here will too. Anyone, worldwide can fill it in and show the bigger picture. It asks lots of questions and also in your own words experiences but the box isn't very big so needs to be condensed. It doesn't matter if you can't fill it in just tick the boxes. No personal setails are asked for but you have to create a unique number/name that shows you are a real person and agree to then using the questionaire to create statistics. It is by far the best one I have seen.

Please take 10minutes, even if you just tick the boxes. I mentioned that SA is the only worldwide site that covers AD withdrawal and is growing so fast as people find out the truth and try taper drugs alone. I have suggested that the NHS  creates a site like this one to help people. What they are proposing now is not enough. Doctors don't know enough yet.

**I am not a medical professional, if in doubt please consult a doctor with withdrawal knowledge.

2001 (Age 12) - PROZAC 10mg for situational anxiety. Taken over a few weeks.

February 2015- Upped Mirtazapine to 30mg because I was feeling much worse than before I started taking it.

August 2015- Dropped Mirtazapine back to 15mg because 30mg was causing even more severe side effects.

October 2015- Mirtazapine 7.5mg. Desperate to get off and feeling awful.

December 2015- Drug free. 5 days after last Mirtazapine tablet hit by severe WD symptoms.

January 2016. Hospitalised because of WD symptoms. Given 2mg of Diazepam.

January 2016 - December 2016. 2mg DIAZEPAM taken as needed. Didn't really help much and never took more than 5 tablets in a month.

Please tell them about your problems taking and withdrawing from antidepressants and/or benzos.

Send by email to petitions@parliament.scot and quote PE01651 in the subject heading. Keep to a maximum of 3 sides of A4 and you can't name for legal reasons any doctor you have consulted. None of the published articles shed light on what ssri's ... actually do or what their hazards might be. Healy 2013.

This is so true, with anything you get on these drugs, dependance, tapering, withdrawal symptoms, side effects, just silent. And if there is something mentioned then their is a serious disconnect between what is said and reality!

"Every time I read of a multi-person shooting, I always presume that person had just started a SSRI or had just stopped."  Dr Mosher. Me too!

Over two decades later, the number of antidepressant prescriptions a year is slightly more than the number of people in the Western world. Most (nine out of 10) prescriptions are for patients who faced difficulties on stopping, equating to about a tenth of the population. These patients are often advised to continue treatment because their difficulties indicate they need ongoing treatment, just as a person with diabetes needs insulin. Healy 2015

Thanks for posting this link, Marmite.

I have a friend who's active in advocacy for benzo withdrawal and she was in contact with the researchers Friday and they said so far, they have received 220 responses, 80 from the UK. And that was over two days. Hopefully, more will come in over the next week.

Just an FYI that the survey will close soon:

The survey opens at 9am on 10 August 2017 will close at 5pm on 24 August 2017 BST.

Can as many people as possible please do this survey.

The good thing about this survey is there are heaps of places to 'explain' that means we don't leave them guessing or making assumptions.

I would urge all UK members to participate in this important survey. It has the potential to influence NHS policy towards prescription drug withdrawal and could make this an issue that government will have to finally pay attention to.

The credibility of the results will depend on the number of people taking part. The net needs to be cast far and wide on this. If you are a member of one of the various mental health support groups outside of SA then you might want to consider posting a link on there as well.

2001: 20mg paroxetine
2003-2014: Switched between 20mg citalopram and 10mg escitalopram with several failed CT's
2015: Jan/ Feb-very fast taper off citalopram; Mar/ Apr-crashed; 23 Apr-reinstated 5mg; 05 May-updosed to 10mg; 15 Jul-started taper; Aug-9.0mg; Sep-8.1mg; Oct-7.6mg; Nov-6.8mg; Dec-6.2mg
2016: Jan-5.7mg; Feb-5.2mg; Mar-5.0mg;  Apr-4.5mg; May-4.05mg; Jun-3.65mg; Jul-3.3mg; Aug-2.95mg; 04Sep-2.65mg; 25Sep-2.4mg; 23Oct-2.15mg; 13Nov-1.95mg; 04Dec-1.75mg; 25Dec-1.55mg.
2017: 08Jan-1.4mg; 22Jan-1.25mg; 12Feb-1.1mg; 26Feb-1.0mg; 05Mar-0.9mg; 15Mar-0.8mg; 22Mar-0.7mg; 02Apr-0.6; 09Apr-0.5mg; 16Apr-0.4mg; 23Apr-0.3; 03May-0.2mg; 10May-0.1mg

Finished taper 17 May 2017.

Well said Dan (congratulations on being a moderator by the way ...I just noticed).

I join with Dan in URGING all people on this forum to do this survey.

If you only do one survey in your life then please make it this one!

This is a chance to have your/our  voice heard. This is a moment in time that is for us. As they say this is not the time to read history this is the time to make history and you/we have an opportunity to play a major part in this.

I'm so pleased Alto has stuck this to the top of the page of the intros.

I wonder if its possible to have this link sent to every sa member. If its simply a matter of one push of the button then maybe that could be considered?

Done!

Began suffering from panic attacks when my father passed away in 2005. Been on and off SSRIs (Celexa, Lexapro, Effexor XR), and therapy since then.

2009 - Started Effexor XR 75mg. Consistent therapy starting Oct 2013

Feb 2014 - Therapist and I felt I was ready to come off Effexor - went to half dose (37.5mg) for a week and then off completely by advice of psychiatrist - bad w/d for a week then gone

May 2014 - bad protracted w/d came out of nowhere.. constant dizziness, agoraphobia(never had before), intense headaches, fatigue for 3 months, all tests (brain MRI, inner ear tests, blood tests, etc.) normal. could not drive, grocery shop, or live life.

Aug 2014 - back on Effexor XR 75mg as neurologist thought these symptoms were my anxiety coming back, all w/d symptoms disappear within 2 weeks. I should have went back on at a lower dose, but I hadn't discovered this site yet.

Tapering Effexor XR.. let's do this! Slow & steady:

Started tapering from 75mg in July 2015. 5% cuts every 3 weeks. From July 2015 - March 2016, reduced to 37.5mg (half dose). In March 2017, down to 18.3mg (quarter dose). April 2020 -  0.38mg. Finally med free as of Oct 31, 2020.

Supplements: meditation, daily exercise, clean diet, working from home (more sleep!)

Healy 2015

Fine idea, nz. As everyone knows, I very seldom send out mass e-mails. This is important, I'll send out an e-mail about it tomorrow.

Im not one to pm the owner of this site so heres an open pm.

Alto  just wanted to say thanks heaps for that terrific email you sent out.

I have a feeling it will stir a fantastic outcome and probably arouse a sleeping giant - members who are in a prolonged season of silence.

SA i see is already getting responses.

Not that the mods need any more work but i think this is going to cause a surge in survey completions hoorah!...and sa updates!

Im so excited about what will occur this week leading up to 24th aug.

Thanks heaps.
