JS11: So close to being free of Escitalopram/Adderall. Now side-effect RX nightmare

Oh I don't even want to THINK about the second Rx.  No thank you for now.

I have been watching the Downton Abbey marathon on PBS, stayed up too late last night doing so as well.  Such a wild girl.  Contemplating a nap but it seems a bit late for that and my noisy neighbors just got home.  Sigh.

I should be doing laundry but just couldn't be bothered. Rather worn out from my late night television viewing.

A gf and I are going to a movie later on so it will be nice to get out.

Would love to have someone cook a steak for me!  I adore beef.  Enjoy yourself.

I have never NOT made it to midnight, well, maybe in early childhood and it doesn't seem to be a tradition I want to start.  Will have to see.

take care, Frogie

My laundry is done and put away.

We will finish watching football, then my fiancé will fix dinner.

We might make it to 9 or 10. You must be young. I'm not, I'm an old lady lol...

To an easy taper on both of our 2 meds, and joy and healing in 2018,

Take care,

Frogie xx

Oh Downbutnotout,

I'm so sorry that you feel that way but I think reinstating or cutting a dose, is so very individual.  What works for one person doesn't always work for another.  It is hard for me to feel confident either and I don't know if there is one "right" thing.

A few months before I found this website, I was at a loss as to what to do.  I was suffering so from the withdrawal symptoms of trying to get off medications, but I didn't know that that is what it was.  They were terrifying and truly unbearable,  so once again I listened to the doctor and finally succumbed to yet another medication, and then 3 others in rapid succession. Some were to help with the withdrawal from the previous medication that was causing the horrible symptoms.  The results were horrific, but led me here.  Something I am truly thankful for as I now know there are others who understand.

The more I read on this site, the more I see that my situation is not unique.  That is very comforting to me.  What also happened from the previous withdrawal that I began with my doctor's knowledge but truly on my own was that I became sensitized to just about everything I touch--medicines, vitamins, food and yes, life in general it often seems.   You are right, it is not an easy journey.  I have been on anti-depressants over half my life and there have been many, many days when I want to give up as well as it seems.  But the thing I DO have now, is this website and the kind souls who are here offering support and information, which has been difficult for me to ask for, but has been offered so graciously.

I know you are feeling alone.  I do know that feeling so well.  But you are reaching out.  That is a good thing.  There is so much wisdom here.

And again, as for reinstating,  I have been on medications almost half of my life.  I have increased my dose, cut it, added additional medicines, changed medications and tried to go cold turkey only to come running back again.  I have done it all.

You have gone from 3 beads of Effexor on December 18 to 5 beads on December 25, which is 6 days.  I know 6 days can seem like an eternity, but from what I have read, time is what is needed.

Someone just posted on my thread asking if my symptoms had a pattern.  I was much better at keeping track of them when I was half-crazed, but will be more diligent now.  I do know that in the past there was a pattern.  There are checklists on this site too.  You might ask for help on your thread as the moderators are so very good at posting links.  I wish I knew how but not yet.

It is so much easier for me to say this to someone else than it often is for me to hear it when someone says it to me, but please be kind to yourself.  This is tough stuff.  Truly.

And it is nice to meet you DownButNotOut.  I think your signature puts it very well.

take good care,

JS

Thanks. I had a hard  day, but then had a brief window tonight where I felt regular. Im not sure if the beads are having a good or bad effect. Not so terrific after I take them. Better later on . Maybe when they are wearing out. I am not an expert on this either.

I have been keeping notes, but it’s better to be more specific. Thanks for reminding me.

Its nice neeting you too. And I’m trying to get into my head more drugs are just going to make things worse. I honestly don’t think I can withstand another disaster.

Its nice to meet someone who has been on these drugs for a long time. And can understand how that affects things.

and you be kind to yourself too.

Oh I hear you, DBnotout,

I just see little skull and crossbones whenever I look at medication now.  But I know that I have also just wanted to grab onto a bottle and shove a pill down my throat to alleviate the suffering--something I have done.   I so got into that mindset that the medicine was the cure to what ailed me.  Now I am finding out that is the ultimate paradox.

I also notice that when I first take my RX, the symptoms start to ramp up.  Usually, I wake up way to early with this odd dizzy, floaty kind of feeling.  It used to go away but since I have cut my dose, that same feeling now seems to be magnified when I take my prescription.  Weird how that happens.

I'm so glad you had a window.  Even if it was just a tiny one.  I cling to those so much.  It is hard to remember them when you are in the middle of it though, as it seems--at least to me--that I lose perspective and will just feel these scary withdrawal symptoms till the dawn of time.  As you can see, I am not melodramatic in the least. :)

I think I am only just beginning to understand the impact all these medications have had on me and my life as well.  And yes, sometimes it is just too much.  I was reading a response by Alto Strata recently which talked about forgiving yourself.  I love my doctor, who has been right there with me since this all began.  She would never intentionally inflict harm on anyone.  As a newly minted internist only a few years older than me,  she prescribed me an anti-depressant because that is what she was taught to do.  She wanted to alleviate my suffering, not cause more pain.  I have to remember that too.

I do so hope this first day of 2018 has found you with a little more relief of your symptoms.  That would be a lovely way to start out the New Year.

take care,

JS

Well, my computer just crashed so let's test my short-term memory to see if I can recall what I just typed.

The movie, Downsizing, was ODD.  I frequently found myself laughing when no one else was--not altogether uncommon as I do have an odd sense of humor--but whoever wrote this flick.  Ummmmm, really odd.  There was one scene where a woman was collecting all the old prescription bottle from the medicine cabinet, of course, I let out a holler.

I think I would much rather have had a good steak and clean laundry but it was fun to get out.

And no, I am NOT young, some days I feel older than others, but it is all relative I suppose.  As my grandfather, who was 94 at the time, once said when I tried to help him across the street, "When I'm old, I may need your help.  But for now, I can do it myself."  I come from hearty stock and have a lot to live up to!

I did, however, manage to make it to midnight.  Of course, I have barely gotten off the couch all day today, but hey, I lit 2 sparklers at midnightish.  Woohooo!

take care, Frogie,

and nothing but easy tapers for 2018.

P.S.  Did you ever think these would be the words you would be wishing someone in the New Year?  Ummm..me either!

Where are you located? I did force myself out today in this freezing weather. I even bought a couple if tops because I keep wearing the same clothes over and over. I saw my 95 year old aunt who is happy. I am do long to feel normal happy emotion.

my son is coming to visit next week and I’m trying to figure out how to act happy to see him . Guess we have to keep trying .

Hi DBNotOut,

I am in the Pacific Northwest.  I think it is a whooping 23 degrees, but when I look at the news and see those on the East Coast and other areas in a deep, deep freeze, I think this is rather warm compared to them.  I am also leaning against a heating pad which is delightful.

Wow, shopping in the cold. You are a brave soul!  How nice to get something new.  I wear the same things all the time too.  I know people who have to wear uniforms to work often times want to wear street clothes, but sometimes, it just sounds so lovely not to have to think about it. I think I wear the same things over and over so they are not unlike a uniform anyway.  Sadly, my brain is rather challenged some days and I can't remember what I wore the day before.

I bet your Aunt really enjoyed seeing you.  95?  What a woman!  I guess that is enough to make a person happy.  I read somewhere how funny it is that when we are young, we celebrate our age--the little increments too--"I am five-and-a-half.  Then, there are years when people don't want to reveal their age, and then suddenly, it is back to childhood like celebrations again:  "I am 95 and a half!  Guess it's all relative.

I do so understand that longing to feel "normal"emotions again.  Although at this point, I'm not really sure what "normal" is.

Are you able to talk to your son and explain what you are going through?  I know it can be difficult to explain to others, even loved ones when medical professionals don't even understand, but it might be worth a try.  Maybe he will surprise you.  I do hope so.  Regardless, try not to pressure yourself.  Easier said than done I know.

And yes, we do have to keep trying.  Some days, much harder than others.

Hope your evening has treated you well.

take care,

JS

How old are you frogie and how long have you been at this withdrawal thing?

Hi DBNotOut,

I don't know how old Frogie is.  This is JS.  Nice way to avoid the question, huh?

These "threads" can be very confusing, at least they are to me.  I am still learning to negotiate all of it.

As far as how long I have been at this withdrawal thing, not exactly sure how to answer.  I, like many here, have tried multiple times to get off medications only to run screaming back.  Often quite literally.

About 2 years ago, I went to a new doctor who wanted me to eliminate Escitalopram and try a new medication.  I was off of E. for 4-and a-half months.  Then crashed, and reinstated.  A few horrors and several medications later, one right after the other, I found this site.  I was in such a state.  Have never felt that way or been that frightened before.  That was August 2017 but I had been going through W/D, the entire 2 year period.  When I eliminated Escitalopram so quickly, my body became sensitized.  I didn't know or understand it at the time.  From what I have since learned, that is quite common.  So, I am rather new at this whole odyssey.

Hope that answers your question in a round about way. :)

Must get ready to hit the hay,

take care,

JS

Are you male or female? Anyway, I’ve acted like a real insane person On these drugs. It’s really scared me. I know it’s the drugs because I never acted like this before in  my life. Buspar turned  me into a real maniac. Upping my effexir to 150 mg was the first thing that made me crazy.

My mistake was getting off fast 2 years ago, and getting back on when I developed anxiety for the first time, 5 months later.

My second problem is getting off it even faster 7 weeks ago..

I had a problem last night and I’m only taking 5 beads of effexor  and 50 mg if trazadone. I worry that my 67 year OLd brain isn’t going to heal. If I knew it would, for sure , I wouldn’t be so scared. If I knew it would, despite my age, I’d feel more confident. If the medical community wasn’t constantly telling me drugs would help me, I wouldn’t be so scared.

I am scared of myself and how I’ve acted on this stuff.

I am scared if how i wake up, and the time in between. I’m scared I will never laugh again or feel love again.

i was so scared this morning that I almost took myself to the hospital where I’m sure they would poison me. I have to keep telling myself there’s no magic pill.

I was having a situation where my whole past was colliding. Every mistake I ever did.

I took 5 beads if effexor and it stopped. But I know it’s going to happen again.

So you were taking es snd it made you manic also?

Have your symptoms subsided?

2001 Remeron , Celexa, prozac a week on lithium.

2014 went off effexor and trazadone in 3 weeks.

2014 zoloft (hyper reaction) put on effexor 75 mg. Was stable until 2017

2017  Trazadone 50 mg (June) Effexor to 113 mg (2 weeks) Effexor 150 mg for a month . Took 75 mg until November. . Lithium 10 days, Lamactil 10 day  aug-nov15 ativan

October : Prozac bridge to get off 75 mg of effexor Used 10 mg of prozac. Stopped prozac 3 wk

Dec 6, 7 Upped trazadone from 50 to 100 mg Did it for 3 days Stopped it

Dec 7 , Dec 8 Took prozac again 0.1 , 0.1, 0.6 stopped it

Dec 11 and Dec 12 upped it to 100 again

Dec 15 , 16,17 went back to 50 mg of trazadone

December 18 Began 3 beads of effexor  Dec 25 began 5 beads of effexor take 10 mg of omneprazole daily

Hi JS11,

I thought I was following you and somehow it turns out I wasn't, so my apologies for my delayed answer.  I couldn't have said it better, "the withdrawal witching hours."  And it appears that I am right in the witching hours with this post.

Ah, know this sensation well. Luckily it hasn't been with me for a while, but I haven't forgotten how dreadful it was. It's amazing how many different symptoms we can get from one drug, isn't it?

Let's see, your last cut was December 1 and it's now December 31 and you got increased WD symptoms on Dec. 23. Sounds like you are right on schedule.  Hang in there, it will eventually start to diminish..  Have you found any pattern to your symptoms when you do cut?  For example, for me it's usually 3 to 6 days after a cut that I start to experience symptoms, and from the day I start to experience symptoms it's usually a week to 10 days until they start to diminish, but then there is what I call an "after bump."  The symptoms clear up but then they come in for one more last hurrah of punishment. If you can't find any pattern don't be too surprised either, a lot of people don't have a pattern. I do know though that it helped me psychology once I was able to find I did have a pattern and then was able to figure out what was coming next. I had to keep an excel spread sheet to find my pattern.

By the way, congrats on getting to 5 mg. I am always happiest when I am parked on a full number. I hate when I get stuck on a percentage.  I can see why you wanted off of the 5.75 mg. 5 mg is a good number and it sounds like a good place to rest while waiting for everything to settle down. You worked very hard to get here so a big applause to you.

By the way happy New Year.  I hope that whatever you are doing, even if you are doing nothing, you find yourself in a state of calm and withdrawal symptoms at a minimum.

Hi  again, RS,

I am trying to get all these messages answered.  Some of them seem to have gotten lost in cyber world.

Yes, the range of symptoms to different individuals is vast.  Once, prior to finding this site, I was going back over my calendar and noting how each time I made a cut, and these were huge (5mgs at a time,)  I did notice that the first 2 or 3 days, I was plagued with anxiety and depression--weeping etc. and then, around 2 weeks later, whack!  The final hurrah of which you speak.  Previously, I had never looked at the pattern.  It was such an aha moment!  I remember painstakingly writing it out for my Doctor, but that had little effect.  I didn't have the knowledge then.

This summer, my whole system got so out of whack with the multiple medications, tapers, updosing and reinstating.  I had such an array of symptoms, some of which have thankfully gone for good.  I only assume they were side-effects of the RX's I was on.

I was keeping notes in my journal but have not been very consistent of late.  I just got a new calendar/journal for 2018 and I need to begin that process again.  It is a good reminder as my dates are not even that accurate.  Just a counting backwards guess.  And yes, it does offer me comfort to get an idea of what is coming.  Excel spread sheets frighten me, but maybe it would be a nice way to learn.  It is good to see progress in a concrete way.

Oh question, do you ever get weird...I don't even know what to label this sensation...it's like my throat is dizzy or I swallowed a balloon.  That goes along with odd pressure in my ears and the weird head feeling.  Like yes, I am up here but I feel so very strange.

And thank you for the New Year's wishes.  Only peace and great calm to you as well.

xoxo,

JS

Hi JS,

Everything seems to be working again as far as getting notifications.  That's good.

I do get sinus pressure problems with withdrawal and can feel woozy in the head. Woozy being different than dizzy.  I haven't gotten the sensation of swallowing a balloon. That sounds a little scary.  Anything with the throat would bother me. It's really awful how many unusual and uncomfortable symptoms we get from withdrawal. Also the symptoms can change on us. Right when we think we have experienced everything a new one shows up.  The fact that this is not recognized by the medical community really disturbs me.

I think you are holding off on tapering for a little while, aren't you?   I wish I could do a cit every month but right now it appears that I'm better with every other month and a more modest cut. I am hovering somewhere around 5% .

Good hearing from you.  Take good care of yourself.

Oh, I see some errors in my above message.

I meant to say that everything is working on my end now for getting notifications. The way I wrote it looks like I am speaking for you as well.

Also I see a typo. It should be I wish I could do a "cut" every month.

I hope you are having a good day JS.

Hi RS,

Thank you for your response.  Yes, to the woozy instead of dizzy head.  I think the weird throat thing might also be my body trying to NOT to get some bug as I have been surrounded by people who are dropping like proverbial flies.  So hard to tell as I think I want to blame any little thing that is not "normal" on withdrawal.  But I also want to shun all sickness too!

I think I have just been hit with several things all at once and am a little overwhelmed with it all.  Woke up with anxiety--the freight train in your chest kind--which always frightens me so.  Was due to go into a friend's office today but that got cancelled and I know that doesn't help as then I am left trying to figure out how to fill the day.  It's not that I don't have things to do, it is just squelching those demons that keep shouting at me and undermining the forward steps which I must take.  Just disconcerting altogether I suppose.

How are you feeling this day?  I hope your outing yesterday was kind to your symptoms and didn't set you back any.

take care, Rachel, and as always, thank you for your kindness and support.

And Rachel,

Yes, to holding for a while.  I know the cut I made was an enormous one.  It was so difficult to tell with all those little slivers just exactly how much I was taking.  I don't know if that was the cause of the sudden onslaught in symptoms as there are many other life stressors which are no doubt contributing.

Also, I hadn't really thought about it much but was reading on LittleGrandma's thread about a change in generics and the impact it had.   I unfortunately had to change pharmacies because of an insurance issue.  Had to depart from Costco, my long time favorite. You know you have taken a lot of meds when you know every person who works there.  They were always very good about letting me know if a generic had been changed.  I have always been sensitive to such changes and am now wondering if a month on two new generics--one for thyroid and the other Escitalopram could have contributed to my current state.  Maybe nothing but it does make me wonder and I need to pick up a refill of the AD today.  Would love to be able to just make this breath taking anxiety stop

Your 5% taper is much more sensible and hopefully more kind.  I see it has been almost a month since you cut.  Congratulations.  I know you have some big things coming up.  Are you planning on sticking to the every other month schedule?  I just want to stabilize and am hoping for some of that soon as most quite probably are.

take care, RS

Hi JS11,

Thank you for your message on my thread.  I thought I'd drop by and lend you my support.  It is always so hard to know where these symptoms are coming from - the cut, switch of generic, both?  Regardless, I really hope you get a break from the anxiety very soon!!

-1/06 - 3/07 Cymbalta. Fast taper (essentially CT); withdrawal symptoms after 4 mos (didn't realize was WD)

-10/07: 100 mg Zoloft; 1 mg Klonopin - tapered off Klonopin after 4 mos. Several unsuccessful slow tapers of Zoloft; went up and down in dose a lot

-Spring 2013 back on 1 mg Klonopin to counter WD symptoms; switched over 5-6 mos from Zoloft to 35 mg citalopram
-Two attempts at slow tapering citalopram, always increased dose due to WD; also increased Klonopin to 1.25 mg in 2014, then to 1.5 mg in 2015

-8/17-9/17: After holding one year at 20 mg, feeling withdrawal symptoms due to stress - slowly increased to 25 mg. No change in symptoms after 6 months (? tolerance ?)  - decided to start citalopram taper February 2018 (still on Klonopin 1.5 mg).

Supplements: fish oil; magnesium; vitamin D3; curcumin

Citalopram taper:  2/2018 - 12/2019: 25 mg - 11.03 mg I 2020: 10.89 mg - 7.9 mg I 2021: 7.8 mg - 5.26 mg I 2022: 5.2 mg - 3.36 mg I 2023: 3.3 mg - 1.47 mg 2024: 1/5/24: 1.44 mg; 1/19/24: 1.40 mg; 1/26/24: 1.37 mg; 2/2/24: 1.34 mg; 2/9/24: 1.31 mg; 2/23/24: 1.28 mg; 3/1/24: 1.25 mg; 3/8/24: 1.22 mg; 3/15/24: 1.19 mg; 3/29/24: 1.17 mg; 4/5/24: 1.14 mg; 4/13/24: 1.11 mg; 4/20/24: 1.09 mg

JS,

I have noticed that for me there is a huge difference between brands of drugs and of course between hard pills and liquid.  It sounds to me as if the changes in your medication could be partially responsible.  I'm going to send you a PM regarding the rest.

HISTORY FOR ZOLOFT TAPER

Feb. 2016 to June 2016  - Was on 150mg Zoloft.  Put on Gabapentin at 900mg a day in 2016 due to antidepressant withdrawal.

Thank you Rachel and WantRelief,

Yes, I am beginning to wonder about the switch in generic brands after being on the same ones for so very long,  Costco no longer takes my insurance and I'm not sure how to go about changing it.  I was just told that if I paid cash to have the consistency in brands, I might lose the coverage.  I have the free stuff, prior to that I did pay out of pocket for my prescriptions.  They also told me, however, that they allow people to request certain manufactures due to sensitivity.  I don't know if the other pharmacy will do it as they are smallish.

Just thinking about all the changes and if something else could be contributing to the sudden onslaught of symptoms.  I know I have taken some Advil and also an occasional Mucinex, although I cut in half.  I was careful not to take the one that has the stimulant in it.  I think I read on your thread, Rachel, that you had extreme sensitivity to Mucinex.  I try so hard to avoid anything, but the terror of coming down with some illness was too overwhelming.

I guess just thinking out loud and need an opinion querry:  I see my psych on Monday.  Maybe I can get brand names for thyroid and Escitalopram,  both of which I was on forever until the insurance wouldn't cover them any more.  I know it's another switch but it would at least guarantee consistency. I do know that the last time I was complaining of withdrawal symptoms and blaming the medications, she said that it was interesting that I wasn't attributing it to anxiety or depression either.  Sigh!

Anyway, thank you both for being here.  Appreciate it so much.

xoxo,

JS

You are so welcome.  Trying to get out and about.  I know it is hard.  I suppose it would just be so lovely to say, "Ah-ha!"  Take a different pill and have these things resolved.  Not been overly patient lately.  That, I just want this all to go away feeling...sigh. Some day, I'm hoping.

take care, WR.

Hi JS, I have finally managed to visit your page!  I related to your words in your intro and when I read your signature I shed a few tears.  I am so sorry that you have also suffered a polypharmacy nightmare.  I was adding up my psychotropic drugs and I have had over 30 also.  How is this even possible...or legal?  Anyway, I am so pleased we both found our way to SA and hopefully we can support each other through this mess 😊 Cheers. K

Thanks Kristine,  I so appreciate your support. We have all been through the ringer.  When I was trying to figure out what and how many drugs, I had been on, I went to the PDR (Physician's Desk Reference) and literally just went down the list checking them off.  I was on some of the same ones you have been on and some others were suggested as well, but I actually managed to refuse one or two.  A small victory I suppose.

Been having some difficult days.  Struggling with being discouraged and just plain afraid I suppose.  I have been getting these internal tremors, just an all over shaky and weak feeling, along with a huge heaviness in my chest which I describe as a freight train.  It does feel like it could actually break through.  A part of me wants it to, in hopes that I can see it disappear.

I don't know if there is a "worst" symptom.  I dare to name it as superstitiously I think it may then appear or increase.  No tempting fate.  But, the tremors and anxiety do bring on such fear.  That out of control feeling.

I have just started sipping the tiniest helping of Magnesium Fizz.  I am in the desperation phase and am hoping it doesn't backfire and increase the ickiness.

AND, how are you faring?  Still in a heat wave?  Grey and overcast and a bit foggy here.  Would welcome a bit of sun.

How about your symptoms?  Having any relief.  I do hope so.  My wish for us all.

take care, Kristine.

xo,

JS

Hi JS11,  I think focusing on any small victory is important.  Refusing a medication or two is actually a mammoth victory.

I think we must be twins.  Exactly my feelings today.  It really is such a painfully difficult experience.  Sometimes I wish I could swear on this site because other words just don't sum up the suffering at times.  You have a positive and accepting attitude which is a win in my book. You should be very proud of yourself.  I like your description of a heaviness in the chest described as a freight train.  Totally relatable. I also get the the boa constrictor feeling around my chest and the snakes in the tummy.

I hope this helps you.  Let me know.  I've only tried tablets. Maybe this would be easier to absorb? You are making small changes to see what will work for you might feel desperate but you are making intelligent choices 😊

It it is much cooler here today and a sunny 25 degrees Celsius.  Unfortunately I'm so weak in the muscles and fatigued that I'm unable to go for a walk but I have been sitting on the deck for 10min periods soaking up some vitamin D. Then it's back to bed because of the vertigo ect ect ect.....

Hope you slept peacefully. K

Hi JS11,  I think focusing on any small victory is important.  Refusing a medication or two is actually a mammoth victory.

I think we must be twins.  Exactly my feelings today.  It really is such a painfully difficult experience.  Sometimes I wish I could swear on this site because other words just don't sum up the suffering.

Hey K.,

Boa constrictor is a very apt description as well.  As are the snakes.  I don't know what reptiles inhabited my body today but I wish they would go back to their habitat and leave me be.

I had to look at the conversion for Fahrenheit, which I apparently didn't know how to spell.  It is 77 degrees which is pretty near perfection in my book.

I don't think the Magnesium Fizz did much except make a dash for the facilities more eminent.  Oh, to have an easy fix.  What kind of Mag. tablets do you take?  Maybe they have them here.

Oh, you poor soul.  I had vertigo once for an extended period of time.  One of the medical tests to prove the diagnosis or for their own evil amusement, was to strap me in a harness, whilst the ground moved up and down.  All of this in front of a Southwestern background of desert and cacti.  The fact that I could barely lift my head off the ground without vomiting, makes this seem like an odd verification method.    What I am trying to say here is I'M SO VERY SORRY!  THAT IS BRUTAL!

Have you found any relief that doesn't involve more medication?

Take care, Kristine.  Even though I have always thought it would be lovely to have a twin, I wish it were in different circumstances.

I hope your time zone is treating you well.

JS

What a kind thought.  I have to go back to work tomorrow and am decidedly NOT amused.  Those snakes are doing a number on my stomach.  Usually, this is the time I get some peace.  Sigh.  Maybe I better visit the cursing thread!

Oh dear 😞 I know that feeling.  I take Swiss 'magnesium citrate' 150mg...they are scored so you can halve them.  However, I haven't taken any supplements for a few days due to the nausea.

The following is something I posted on another thread...it kinda sums up what I try to do...I avoid aromatherapy when my nausea is bad (but peppermint oil in a carrier oil rubbed on the tummy in a clockwise direction can help) and I haven't been able to do the progressive muscle relaxation due to muscle pain.  I began learning mindful meditation over ten years ago.

  1. Mindfulness meditation:  Start with the basic breathing techniques. Meditation takes time and effort. For full benefit it must be done on a daily basis.
  2. When I'm experiencing acute panic/anxiety and meditation is not possible I use the 4-7-8 breathing technique. Lots of examples on google/youtube
  3. Aromatherapy: I invested in an 'altrasonic aromatherapy diffuser' (they come in some beautiful designs and probably many on sale at the moment!) This has helped me immensely. I use various essential oils.  If I have a headache/migraine I use peppermint oil. Sleep and relaxation I use lavender oil. I find rosemary oil beneficial when I meditate because it helps me focus but is calming at the same time.
  4. Progressive muscle relaxation: this is a guided meditation I do just before sleep. Laying down in bed. It involves tensing muscle groups and then quickly relaxing those muscles. I have found this very helpful over the years.
  5. Nutrition packed smoothie: I often don't have much of an appetite especially in the morning. So I make a smoothie with milk, banana/berries, yoghurt and protein powder. I always have frozen berries in the freezer. I find this is easy to digest. These drugs and w/d have played havoc with my digestive system.
  6. Gentle stretching and a short daily walk. At the moment my balance isn't great and I'm afraid of falling, so I'll just slowly walk around the garden - using mindfulness walking meditation.

        7. Ruminating thoughts...I often can not escape this. So this is what I do. I acknowledge the thoughts as 'just thoughts' and refuse to give them any more attention than that. Then I'll either listen to a pod cast or play an app game on my phone (lol) farm heros works best for me. Sometimes I'll do both at the same time. I do whatever works at the time.

I try to do whatever helps at the time...K
