I wasn't told seroquel was an antipsychotic med. I was given it to help me sleep after lofepramine gave me insomnia. No informed consent at all.

I was given it for insomnia and anxiety and MMD. As soon as the FDA approved atypical antipsychotics as an augmentation for an antidepressant In MDD, it was a free for all...prescription rates skyrocketed.

I've read the same Kristine and how it's been used so much off label for insomnia. It's disgusting the way these drugs are handed out like candy. Unless you are psychotic or bipolar these drugs shouldn't be used. In the UK I don' even think it's licensed for MDD but used off label again. Also the results compared with placebo when used for MDD as an adjunct are not much better than the placebo.

It is very upsetting. Makes my blood boil...or maybe that's temperature irregularities due to W/D (little joke)...I do not believe antipsychotics should be used long term on anybody.  They are nothing short of a chemical lobotomy. K

I agree. Hopefully I'll feel better off of them after a while and get some energy back. Down to 16mg tonight and I'm not finding things too bad atm. Sleep is ok, sometimes a bit broken but the main feeling is a slight flu like malaise. Northcoastboy did his last 25mg at 1mg reduction per day and seems ok and he'd dropped from 150mg in about 3-4 months so I'm hopeful I'll be able to do the same for the last 25mg. So far so good but if any bad symptoms crop up I'll slow down or hold. I managed to get from 150mg down to 25mg without too much of a problem and held at 25mg for a good month.

I managed to get from 150mg down to 25mg without too much of a problem and held at 25mg

Staz, you are doing an amazing job. 150mg to 16mg is wonderful.  I don't think I've read Northcoastboys thread..I'll stop by.  I couldn't function on 300mg of seroquel (on top of everything else).  A zombie. Guess that's how some doctors like their patients. I'm glad you are sleeping ok.  I really believe you are going to have a very bright and happy future. K

I was only on it for a little while. I don’t really remember. It blurred my vision a lot. So I got off it. This website doesn’t want us to discuss drugs. It’s in the guidelines. I know that your considering a taper using lamactil and have discussed it with Christine. I don’t want to break their rules.

I took lamictal. It did help in addition to my Lexapro.

But like I tell everyone, I'm not a mod or a dr, I just tell you how it helped me. That would be up to you and your dr. But why would you want to add another med when you are trying to get off them? Just curious.

I'm having anxiety right now. Not fun.

I hope 2018 brings everyone healing.

PREVIOUS medications and discontinuations: Have been on medications since 1996.

Valium, Gabapentin, Lamictal, Prilosec and Zantac from 2000 to 2015 with a fast taper by a psychiatrist.

Liquid Lexapro Nov, 2016 to 31-March, 2019 Lexapro free!!! (total Lexapro taper was 4 years-started with pill form)

---CURRENT MEDICATIONS:Supplements:Milk Thistle, Metamucil, Magnesium Citrate, Vitamin D3, Levothyroxine 25mcg, Vitamin C, Krill oil.

Xanax 1mg 3x day June, 2000 to 19-September, 2020 Went from .150 grams (average weight of 1 Xanax) 3x day to .003 grams 3x day. April 1, 2021 went back on 1mg a day. Started tapering May 19, 2023. July 28, 2023-approximately .87mg. Dr. fast tapered me at the end and realized he messed up. Prescribe it again and I am doing "slower than a turtle" taper.

19-September, 2020 Xanax free!!! (total Xanax taper was 15-1/2 months-1-June, 2019-19-September, 2020)

Hi Frogie,

It was a drug I was offered and turned down but when you are desperate for relief sometimes I consider it as it appears to help some people and I'm afraid I'd rather try that than ECT. It's a fine balancing act but my depression and anxiety is so bad right now it may be something I'd have to consider at some point. It would be reluctantly but it's not a decision for now but for consideration maybe later. Ideally I want to be med free and that's what I'm striving for atm.

My anxiety is bad today too. Need to find some distraction.

I think anything would be better than that ECT! That's scary.

Just think hard before you start something else. I know it sounds tempting, if it would help you feel better. But it's something else that you have to deal with and taper off of. But I'm not a dr or mod, they know what's best for you. Listen to them before you do me.

I'm trying to get med free and it is getting hard with the anxiety. But it will eventually get better, I keep telling myself lol..

I hope you feel better soon.

Thanks Frogie,

Today the anxiety is really hitting me hard and after 2 years nearly i'm becoming more desperate as i'm sure you'd understand and anything to improve my mood would be better than nothing but there's no guarantee of it helping so it's a role of the dice again.

Kristine's experience of ECT should be a warning to anyone on benzos to steer clear of it.

So I've three options:-

1. Phase out all meds and hope that this resolves my depression.

2. Risk ECT

3. Add a mood stabilizer into the mix to help me then taper the other meds and benzo after completing my Seroquel withdrawal

All have their own risks and pros and cons.

Staz

I know exactly how you feel. It's been 2 years for me too. I've gone off other meds and am working on Lexapro now. Then I have Xanax and I'll be done. But it's going to take a while.

That is your choice to add meds to "feel better". Like I said, the dr and mods know more than I do. I just know how I feel.

I'm having anxiety today. I think it's because I still haven't seen my granddaughter for Christmas, and my fiancé went back to work after a long weekend, so I'm alone again. Also, we are going to visit my fiancés parents this weekend, which means I won't be at home, my routine will change. Not looking forward to that. I'm looking forward to seeing his mom, but not the drive. And I have to leave my 16 year old chihuahua at my uncles, which is only 10 minutes from his parents but I won't have her with me. Too many variables. Which causes too much anxiety for me.

I hope your anxiety eases for you.

Take care,

Frogie xx

I can't say it has improved a lot yet. I'm still tapering Lexapro and then I have Xanax to taper. And I have a lot of life situations right now.

I know that these meds are not good for you. I have found that I'm not as depressed as I was. Weird I know.

I'm not trying to tell anyone what to do. If you read what I said, I told Staz I'm not a mod or a dr, so I don't know what will help the most. I just know for myself, I want off the meds.

Has it helped you at all?

Hi Downbutnotout:

I think everyone on here needs confidence in what they are trying to do on here. I know I try with everyone I talk with. Support is very important.

I support a lot of people I talk with and they support me back.
