Looks interesting; thanks, JC, I'm going to check it out too.

2020: After 18+ years (entire adult life) on Paxil, a dangerous doctor-led "taper" in 2015, and four years tapering off the last 1 mg thanks to SA and the Brassmonkey slide,

I AM COMPLETELY FREE OF PAXIL! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! Forever.

2021: Began conservative, proper, CNS-respecting taper of Zoloft, led by the only expert on me -- me. Making own liquid. 5-10% plus holds.

2022: Holding on Zoloft for now. Current dose 47 mg. Hanging in, hanging on. Severe protracted PAWS, windows and waves. While I may not be doing "a lot" by outside standards, things are graaaaadually getting better

Wonderful to hear, DMV!  :)

-1/06 - 3/07 Cymbalta. Fast taper (essentially CT); withdrawal symptoms after 4 mos (didn't realize was WD)

-10/07: 100 mg Zoloft; 1 mg Klonopin - tapered off Klonopin after 4 mos. Several unsuccessful slow tapers of Zoloft; went up and down in dose a lot

-Spring 2013 back on 1 mg Klonopin to counter WD symptoms; switched over 5-6 mos from Zoloft to 35 mg citalopram
-Two attempts at slow tapering citalopram, always increased dose due to WD; also increased Klonopin to 1.25 mg in 2014, then to 1.5 mg in 2015

-8/17-9/17: After holding one year at 20 mg, feeling withdrawal symptoms due to stress - slowly increased to 25 mg. No change in symptoms after 6 months (? tolerance ?)  - decided to start citalopram taper February 2018 (still on Klonopin 1.5 mg).

Supplements: fish oil; magnesium; vitamin D3; curcumin

Citalopram taper:  2/2018 - 12/2019: 25 mg - 11.03 mg I 2020: 10.89 mg - 7.9 mg I 2021: 7.8 mg - 5.26 mg I 2022: 5.2 mg - 3.36 mg I 2023: 3.3 mg - 1.47 mg 2024: 1/5/24: 1.44 mg; 1/19/24: 1.40 mg; 1/26/24: 1.37 mg; 2/2/24: 1.34 mg; 2/9/24: 1.31 mg; 2/23/24: 1.28 mg; 3/1/24: 1.25 mg; 3/8/24: 1.22 mg; 3/15/24: 1.19 mg

I need help with my upcoming taper of Saphris. Saphris is a sublingual wager absorbed under the tongue bypassing the digestive system. According to my research and other members here who have tapered Saphris, water titrate is not an option for sublingual. I have been breaking the wafers into bits and weighing them on the Gemini 30. I am down to 1.2. And now the next cut using the limitations of that scale is .1 mg which is more than 10%. I have looked at other lab grade scales but can’t find anything less than hundreds of dollars. I have also spoken to a pharmacy about compounding and they said they cannot do it with sublingual. Anyone have any ideas or do I just make the 1mg cuts and work through it? Help please.

To make sure our eyes can see that decimal point:  you mean 0.1 mg?

That's 8% and is fine.

Please make sure we can see that decimal point.  You are getting down so low that it is very important!

Be sure and do the drop when you have  a lull in schedule - maybe wait until August if July is a busy month?

Hi DMV,

Hope you’re coping okay today.

I know nothing about sublingual wafers n I hope it all goes well for you, everyone here is in such a different situation.

The only thing we have the same is that we are going through withdrawals.

Sending hugs🤗

Thats fabulous DMV,

I loooooove the beach, it’s my happy place. The sound of the waves and the feel of the sand are incredible.

We all need to get out in nature more no matter how we’re feeling.

I remember one day my wave was so severe, it couldn’t have been any worse. I went to the beach anyway. Felt terrible but just being in nature n listening to the waves helped me get through the day.

Sometimes even if we can’t really enjoy things it’s so important to still keep doing things we love. We may be numb, we may be in absolute torture but we have to keep living.

Again I’m so happy you had a great day. I’m not doing too bad either, sending hugs🤗🤗

Hi DMV,

Hope you have a nice time with your son in Brooklyn.

It’s great to have upbuilding time with loved ones. It will give you some nice memories to look back on when you’re having a bad day.

I like going n staying with different people too, staying with a friend this weekend which I’m looking forward to.

I bought a board game called Ticket To Ride. It looks really good, haven’t had the brainpower to figure it out yet, I got it yesterday. It involves cards and trains etc as well. I’m going to work it out on the weekend.

I got the one with the European map, though a friend of mine has the one with American map.

When I’m really ill I can’t focus on something like that so I try n play something more simple like Trouble which just involves a dice n getting your four pieces home. I remember playing it once when I was in such a severe wave, family came over n wanted to play  n I felt shocking but still managed to play.

Distractions is what one needs anyway, it’s very important to keep distracting ourselves to get through the day.

I had trouble being chirpy but I went through the motions. Felt pretty numb, but got through the day. Yay!

Anyway, have fun with your son 💚💚💚

Hi there! Board games sound like a lot of fun. Maybe I should try that? I could play them with my husband and he can help me figure out the things that my brain can do.

So my trip to New York was a mixed bag. New York is a crowded place and even though I’m from there I was a little overwhelmed dealing with all of the people on the subway. But I did get to go to favorite old meeting of  mine and see some old friends which were great. I got to hang out with son which was also lovely although I had to wait until he got out of work. So glad that time I want to little bit tired. But there’s really no way around it because he has to work until five. Maybe next time I go on weekend.

Hi DMV,

Yes, get some board games, they’re a great distraction n you can really get lost in time. Look forward to playing my new one on the weekend with friends, once I figure it out. It looks like such fun.

New York sounds busy. A few friends of mine here in Australia just visited not long ago. I prefer going into nature, than a holiday in a city. The beach is my happy place. When we’re going through withdrawals it’s important to spend lots of time in our happy places, anywhere in nature is good for me.

Glad you caught up with your son n friends. I’m catching up with a friend in the city today. The city here is definitely not as hustle n bustle as New York. I have to run a few errands there too. Look forward to seeing her, it’s lovely to have good friends and I can’t wait to see her. We have to keep looking at the positives in life and the things we can be grateful for.

Hope u have a nice day💚💚

Having a really hard time. Feel like I just want to go to the hospital and get it over with I am suffering so many of these days. Whatever is happening for me in the morning is horrible. The anxiety/terror is not really getting better. My doc wants to updose me to 1.5 Saphris (according to the last time I felt "stable" which was around 2.5 as a compromise. I don't really want to do that but I don't want to do this either. They also spoke about switching out my Knlonopin for xanax since xanax is what I was put on during the first Saphris crash (2011) and it helped. They don't want to just add so I guess that is good but xanax is worse than klonopin as far as short half life and all right? I really don't know what to do. Thoughts?

An updose is better than going to the hospital, where they will cold switch you - rip you off of this and give you that.  They seem to feel like that is "safe practice" when you are hospitalised, and in fact, sometimes they hospitalise people just to do that.

There is no magic dose.   The best dose is where you are stable.

Stick with the Klonopin.  Xanax is a bear to come off of, because - like you said - short half life.   I'm not a benzo expert, but people who get caught on Xanax sometimes have to dose 6x a day.  Plus - the devil you know, and all that.

Above all, never let them cold switch you.

Any news about changing your medical team?  Have you looked into any of the options I shared with you?  Checked with the Freedom Center in Northhampton?

What sorts of tools have been helping you get through the day? Have you tried sipping magnesium water?  Dissolve a mag citrate in water, and sip on it when you need to.

Remember, just because your nervous system fires, doesn't mean that it's "panic time."  It's just your body reacting.  Ask your body:  what do you want?  Who knows, maybe it will tell you exactly!

This is not sounding like a good time for a taper.

Please keep in touch with your face to face support.

Klonopin

This is my instinct to, although it seems to work differently then the Xanax worked for me when it stabilized me coming cold turkey off of Saphris. And so that’s why they were thinking of switching me, they don’t like to put people on to drugs in the same class. Which I respect but I don’t think switching is the way to go.

I have been doing EFT and things from the Claire weeks book like floating. I take magnesium every day but I have not tried sitting on it in the water drink. I have also started this therapy with my friend called TAT which I’m just beginning so I don’t understand totally how it works although it’s a lot  like tapping. I’m also part of a group therapy for depression and Zaidi. And I’ve started doing some DBT.

The other option the doc mentioned switching to Xanax was an Increase in the Clonopin. I’m just trying so hard to come down on my drug load that it’s hard to accept these things. It’s hard to see that I’m making progress even though I have made some.

I haven’t decided yet on switching doctors. It’s still on the table.

I don't have any advice except that I would not change anything -- easier said than done!! But I wanted to offer support.  That extreme anxiety is horrible.  I feel completely at the mercy of my brain.  I think the magnesium helps.  I hate to see you suffering so.

Peace, Rosetta

Thoughts?

Hi DMV - I am so sorry you are having such a hard time.  It looks like you are getting some good advice/support from both JanCarol and Shep so you are in good hands.  I am here for you whatever you decide is best for you.  I am thinking about you DMV - WR.

Hey D -

I saw Shep's post for you in the Benzo thread, and agreed with nearly everything she said.

You have been having windows!  This is a blessing, and you can't expect them every day.  Be grateful for what you have.  I was working on a meditation about loss and remainder:  I have lost a lot - but I still have a lot too.  It's vital that you look at the blessings, the gratitude.  Because when you are grateful for a thing, it is more likely to Grace you again.  If you are travelling, and only look at the asphalt, strip malls, concrete and steel - you will not notice that little blooming shrub, or tiny bird, or grass blooming.  Your recovery is going to come in tiny bursts - and it helps oh-so-much to focus on those tiny bursts of positive rather than the morass of everything else.  The morass will suck you down - the tiny birds will pull you out.

Shep very accurately assessed that - you do have good days, but when you get hit with the bad stuff (and there will be symptoms and stuff to deal with, sorry), you get overwhelmed and want to do something.  My signature says:  holding is hard work.  It may be the hardest part of withdrawal - holding and waiting for your nervous system to settle down.

What happened to you was you got destabilised by that doctor-supervised wayyyyy-too-fast taper in December, and you haven't been the same since.  Once someone gets destabilised, it is so much harder than if you can prevent it.  All right then, let's focus on the sky, not the ground.

OKAY this is a lot of stuff.  Is any of it fun or pleasurable, or is it just another obligation/duty?  Is it that you are desperately reaching out for everything - are you getting tools and help from this?

You might want to winnow down what is most important right now, and focus on learning that skill well, rather than learning 16 things at once?  I know I advocate for a deep & wide toolkit, but some of this feels impulsive, like you are flitting around looking for "the fix."  Learn to appreciate and accept the tiny benefits each technique offers, and develop that.

If, however, all of these are pleasurable and aren't adding to your stress (I confess, the time stress alone of all of this stuff would be overwhelming for me.) - good for you!

Can you tell me - what benefits are you receiving?  Let's focus on the positives.

What does Claire Weekes give you?

How are you doing the EFT sessions, and (like the James Moore / Dede Moore session) do they reduce your anxiety?
TAT sounds fascinating (Tapas Accupressure Technique - a trauma therapy) - is it helpful, and does it soothe you?  Or does it just bring more stuff up?
Zaidi - is that a spiritual practice?   Does it uplift you?

DBT - how are you thinking and feeling about the DBT?  Have you learned any acronyms?

Do you keep a journal of all of these activities?

I know that you have updosed, from our conversations, and that it is helping.  This might be all that you need to stabilise.

Remember:

But this is even harder than recovery from addiction - because it's not addiction, it's that your brain & nervous system has been resculpted, and it will take time - lots of time - to change your brain again.

There is no "falling off of the wagon," because there is no pleasure or social pressure to "partake."  The mental toughness you need for this is different to the mental toughness you have developed so far.  When you get through this, you will be iron-clad solid,  having developed the AA recovery toughness, and then the withdrawal survival toughness.

Here are some cartoons which might help you:

Holding is hard work, holding is a blessing. Give your brain time to heal before you try again.

My suggestions are not medical advice, you are in charge of your own medical choices.

A lifetime of being prescribed antidepressants that caused problems (30 years in total). At age 35 flipped to "bipolar," but was not diagnosed for 5 years. Started my journey in Midwest United States. Crossed the Pacific for love and hope; currently living in Australia.   CT Seroquel 25 mg some time in 2013.   Tapered Reboxetine 4 mg Oct 2013 to Sept 2014 = GONE (3 years on Reboxetine).     Tapered Lithium 900 to 475 MG (alternating with the SNRI) Jan 2014 - Nov 2014, tapered Lithium 475 mg Jan 2015 -  Feb 2016 = GONE (10 years  on Lithium).  Many mistakes in dry cutting dosages were made.
