From what the doctor has told me the Latuda does more for depression.

He's been reading marketing literature.  It's bogus.   If it is the same, then - it's the same, and there is no benefit to switching.  If it is different, then - it's a change, and a cold switch, and destabilising.

You are depressed because you are on a zillion brakes.  As you get off the brakes you will feel better.

There is a slight variation between them:

Latuda hits on the 5HT receptors more strongly.  (that's serotonin - which you reacted to serotonin, which is why they put you on "antipsychotics" aka neuroleptics for your mood).  It also hits on the 5HT1B while the Geodon hits on the 5HT2 instead.  Don't know the difference?  Neither does your doctor!

Then don't make changes.  The only way to get stable is to stay still.  Shaking things up will not improve stability.

Do you do Neti?  Neti improved my sinuses and allergies immensely.

I also used to do steams of peppermint, sage, coltsfoot, and gingko(when I could find it).  Or tiger balm.  Or vicks.  Shep is fond of China Oel, which is a peppermint product.

Do not take pseudoephedrine if you are concerned about anxiety.  Mucinex by itself is pretty harmless, as it just thins the mucous - however - there are people who have reacted to that, too.  Your doctors are trying to help - but the things they are throwing at you are not helpful!

You may just have to tolerate discomfort for awhile.  Trying to fix everything can turn to destabilisation, as you chase after this drug or that one.

Be still, keep it simple.

I know you are struggling, and I"m sorry to hear that.

Maybe this is a time to hold all tapers until you get through winter.

Let's see a list of your symptoms - have you tracked your symptoms with:

Dr. Joseph Glenmullen's Most Common symptoms of Withdrawal  ?

Sometimes it is helpful to look at it from 6 months ago and compare it to now.

It may also be helpful to ask your husband for input as to how you have improved.

You are thrashing around, and it's hard for you to see.

The waves are temporary -  they will pass (if you let them).

symptoms

I will check that out. Generally my symptoms are a deep dread and panic and fear in the morning which lasts typically into the middle of the afternoon when it starts to get a little bit better. Social anxiety. Depression and crying. I do have my husband as a kind of tracking device reminding me of how I felt on this day or that day or that type of thing. I try to remember to write things down but sometimes I actually forget where I write them since I have like four journals I’m trying to just stick to one

Geodon hits the 5HT, too.  That's probably why they chose it for you..  It's a different way to hit the 5HT than SSRI, and is "balanced" (egads) by H1 (histamine) and D2 (dopamine).

You may be having more allergy problems because of the Saphris taper - as it hits on H1 (histamine), and your body might be trying to adjust for that.

Ok. so I am taking away that there is likely no real reason to switch. I mean if I thought it would really help, I would seriously consider. But I am so so easily destabilized and knock off course by changes that it feels scary to try. Also trying to understand as best I can the different receptors, etc. Just printed out a symptoms chart. I pretty much get the anxiety and depression mimics everyday and the dissassociation unreal feeling. Just really wondering when that morning severe dread is going to stop. Maybe when I am all the way off Saphris? It's pretty terrible.

Oh, DMV, I have that every morning, too.  It's much milder than it used to be.  I understand how awful it is.  Your therapist and psychiatrist have no idea.  Please ignore them.  They are like fish trying to tell a human to just breathe the water and she will stop feeling as if she is drowning.  It's important to remember that they have no idea what they are talking about.

oh, Rosetta, I so love this.

Currently taking Ramapril (blood pressure) 5 mg twice a day

Omeprazole 10 mg AM and 20 mg PM  (the taper has gone nowhere after the first cut)

Famotidine   once a day (and I still needs tums sometimes)

magnesium 200 mg at night

as of yesterday 2 fish oil capsules "EPA-DHA 1000"

off Lexapro as of 5/2018  - last dose had been 5 mg every other day for a couple years

highest dose had been 20 mg at which point I was diagnosed with Bipolar II, which went away when I cut the lexapro down to 15 mg.

I spent years on Paxil before Lexapro (can't remember dose), briefly on Effexor and Abilify and others I have forgotten. in fact, when I was diagnoses with BPII I was put on all kinds of things which made me feel so bad I stopped them cold turkey within maybe 3 or 4 weeks, thank goodness. since then I've known these pills were terrible and I weaned down the Lexapro with zero help or support over I'm not sure how many years.

I am seriously considering splitting my Geodon into four instead of three doses. This would mean I would take one dose in the middle of the night, which I always wake up anyway at almost exactly the same time to go to the bathroom. I would have to eat a little something with it. My hope is that this split will help my morning anxiety. Which I really feel is caused by the sharp drop off and short half-life of this medicine. Thoughts?

Hi DMV...I am so sorry!  And about the morning symptoms as well...they are awful...I used to look forward to mornings but not so much...but then each day is different it seems.

I go to my therapist and doctor because I have to in order to get my prescriptions...beyond that I have accepted that they will never understand even though they clearly feel that they not only understand but KNOW what is going on...and that just getting of these meds today would make all ok.  I hope that you will be able to put what they say aside and know that your instincts and body messages are far ore reliable than they will most likely ever be.  Think about you lots!!  Please take care of you!!  Love and hugs!!💜

Hey D -

Cortisol spikes are, sadly, normal.  You can try the Geodon split - as if your drugging regimen isn't complicated enough.

But my gut feeling is that - it might help a little - but the cortisol is cortisol and it's going to do what it does.  Trying to tweak feelings with chemicals is how we get into these drugged messes.

In order to get out of a hole, we must first stop digging it.  And for you, it's going to mean some time when you are uncomfortable.

I thought of you today as I watched a Wim Hof video - where he talks about the connection between cold and emotions:

I guess it’s worth a try. Or I might try spreading the 3 out differently. One in middle of night.

Hi Friends,

I have been trying to concentrate and finding it really hard to sustain with all these "brake" drugs I am on. I want to speed things up and I know I cannot. I did spread out the Geoden now more evenly. It has a really short half like of 7-10 hours and I was having bad withdrawal every morning from it. Part of the problem is it has to be taken with food. So now I am eating part of a muffin in the middle of the night to dose so I am not in withdrawal in the morning. Even if I take it right before bed with food I still was having symptoms so trying this. Seems to be helping a little but like others have said, part of it is Cortisol spikes and so I just have to deal with that part.

I seem to have a lot of fluctuations. A whole good day (amazing) folllowed by a crash. Maybe I did too much on the good day?

Depression causing anxiety about depression. Trying to journal but honestly sometimes I forget. Seriously.

Glad you are all here. Would love to hear from you. xoxo

Depression causing anxiety about depression.

Hello DMV64

It's so hard to cope with this wobbly cycling of symptoms, isn't it?  And sometimes it doesn't follow the good day/bad day pattern and there may be another bad day which cam be dispiriting.  The only thing I can do on a particularly difficult day is to tell myself that things do change and I have had some good days - just to remind myself and to help me to hang on to getting through the day.

We had a public holiday today and I was in a very low mood this morning - I thought it was going to be a long day of hanging on but I dozed to a guided autogenic relaxation You Tube stream and found that afterwards I had perked up a bit.  So the doze helped.  I wrote a letter to my niece which was my goal for today and I'd thought I wouldn't be able to do it before the doze but I did manage it after - good to put a tick on that one, I've been meaning to do it for a while.

I hope you've had a reasonable day. and managed the morning symptoms.  It's out of this world that we have all ended up here, I still have moments of great disbelief when I realise what the drugs have done to me.

Thinking of you and sending best wishes

I’m just feeling kind of down because I am taking this class and I can’t help compare what it feels like other people are able to do as opposed to what I am able to do. Although I know some of this is in my head and I’m doing a good job on the projects. It’s hard not to feel like everyone is just more functional than I am. I looked at someone’s portfolio just this morning and it just seem like 1,000,000 miles away before I can put together a new portfolio. Sorry to be such a downer but I really want to be functional it’s so hard to except this Situation that I have wound up, got myself into. Please excuse errors I’m dictating.

I understand.  That must be very frustrating.  I know I feel that way about how other parents/mothers are able to stay organized, and I feel that I'm doing the minimum.  -Rosetta

I often feel like that - everyone IS more functional than I am - or at least the co-workers I talk to. it's hard not to feel envy, which I know is no good for us. ☹️

Compare and despair. I know it’s not good to compare because I’m going to wind up in despair. But my mind just goes there, at least sometimes. I try to appreciate the good days

Hi DMV...I compare all the time...mostly to what I used to be.  What I am now is how I was before I started on the med...just anxious and nervous and really wound up after anything that jars the system more.  Nothing much has changed I realize...wish I could believe that getting off these meds will be a cure.  But I think i will just be what I was before it...but maybe not.  Who knows.  You are SO talented!!!  Hope you can know that and know that just taking the class is remarkable!!!💜

Oh boy do I know what you mean. Some days I really feel like I’m just running around in circles and it’s not getting any better. Although my husband who is my observer, tells me that I am doing better it’s just a slow process. But I also do have a lot of anxiety and many days where I feel like I’m just on the tip of barely functioning. Thanks so much for saying all those kind things about me. It’s good for me to hear them, it makes me feel like maybe sometimes I’m doing OK!

I hope you had a good day. Check in and let me know how it was.

So it's not just me who feels this way, then.  I'm almost convinced I'm never going to enjoy life again and I get so jealous of "normal" people out running or walking and enjoying themselves when I'm dragging two lead legs around.

I know it's not nice for any of us, but these last couple of posts have made me realise again there are other people facing such spirit-depleting symptoms as well.

All best wishes - sometimes it does feel better
