Woke up feeling triggered and anxious. I have to go teach today and I cannot remember what my last lesson was with this group of kids and that is very upsetting to me right now. My memory is a mess. So I am trying not to let the racing thoughts build on each other and remembering things do tend to work out and I CAN DO THIS because somewhere inside me I know I can

I like your can-do attitude!

(sometimes we have no choice.  Sometimes I ask myself, "can anyone else do this?"  Nobody else can teach my class, or write my letters and emails, or brush my teeth - so I'd better!)

It sounds like windows and wave.  Remind yourself - this is withdrawal.  Appreciate the windows, ride or surf the waves, or wait through them.

I remember going to the ocean, and here in Australia, it was a "challenging beach."  It was patrolled, and there were signs about a rip pulling to the right, and the surf was strong.  I never swim in the surf, just wade out and feel the waves crashing over me.  But this time - the waves were so strong, and the rip was so powerful, that it stopped being pleasurable.  I found myself fighting the surf.

Then I thought about SA, and symptoms, and waves.  And I surrendered,  Coughing and choking and barely able to breathe, the surf picked me up and crashed me down again and again.  I couldn't fight it, I couldn't swim against it.  I could only let go and surrender.

The magic of a rip is that - if you surrender to it, it will eventually drag you back to shore - it's when you fight the rip that it kills you.

So I surrendered, and I was dragged to the shore, spluttering and gasping and covered in sand (my suit was filled with sand in places - well.  It was awful!)  It was over, and all I could do was laugh at myself to keep from crying, to keep from letting anyone know how scary that was - how helpless I felt.  My chest hurt as if I'd drowned - only I hadn't, not even close.  I was ashamed and embarassed, but too crashed - like being hit by a ton of bricks - to do anything other than crawl up out of the surf, lay there until I could leave.

Withdrawal is a lot like that.

If you are suffering symptoms, you might plan on waiting for your next taper.

Bubble says that you are good to go - she's got a good sense of that.

I think I want to split my klonopin dose as earlier suggested though. Thinking about it...

But if you are going to move your klonopin by an hour a day, you might make that your project for the next month and see if you stabilize further before your next taper.  Read back on your thread - I'm too far removed from what I said to repeat it.

This sounds really gentle - but perhaps you should choose - either the taper or the klonopin move.  If you've already started the taper, wait until you've been on the same dose and stabilised before moving the klonopin.

And then watched a sad movie that really affected me.

Yeah, it can be a minefield.  Christmas music sets me off - or that simple little tune from back when that reminds you of that time that you . . .

Movies are particularly immersing.

They are designed to manipulate your emotions - they are more professional at it than psychiatrists!

So - being on the receiving end of that soundtrack, the acting (they're really good), the emotions and story (underlined by - soundtrack and frame changes) - can really take you for a ride.  Some movies are exhausting.  This might be a good time for "feel good" stuff.  Silly TV shows (I'm thinking "I Dream of Jeannie" type stuff).  Old shows are better because the frame changes are slower and the soundtrack less intrusive.  TV shows are less than 30-60 mins, so if you fall off a cliff you can walk away sooner.  Movies are better in the kid zone.

Though - that said, I lost it watching Disney's Pocohantas (off the deep end) ....and a Sandra Bullock comedy.... (twisted for days and made a permanent change in my thinking - so maybe that was a good "lost it.")

Yeah, movies are a minefield.

Overall, it sounds very much like you are on top of this.  I, too, like the new posting style, it makes it easier to absorb quickly what is happening with you, and to see "the whole" better.

You have a gift for writing, too!

Hey JanCarol!

Yes yes and yes. I am going to wait on splitting the klonopin since I already started this gentle micro taper. And I am also going to be more careful of potential triggers. Somedays I feel ok, you know, like it's not that bad, I can do this. And then other days I feel like I cannot stand another moment and it will never get better. I feel like I am jumping from rock to rock over a swirling stteam. I taught my class this morning. It seems fine in the moment. Afterwards I can barely remember what I have done. Going to take it easy today, think I may have a bit of a head cold.

Thanks for checking in!

Also meant to share...had a somewhat unfortunate phone tag with my new doctor(s). I say doctors plural because the main guy has resident assistants. They are so busy my next appointment is not for three weeks (my last one was two weeks ago) and I had a few questions and concerns. Long story short I eventually got the message that said something like: I think it would be appropriate for us to address these questions at your next appointment. Shutting me down, and I have to say I felt angry and small. I really want to work with this team. So I am just trying to let it go. And when I see them we can discuss.

Symptomatic day again. I think I am noticing something. I might need to drop in 5% increments. This time I did a ML at a time and was all good until I got to my second to last of 9ML drop. Figuring it takes a few days to catch up, maybe I have to go 5%. Thoughts? Also will see how symptoms go in next few days.

Hey D -

It may be that your daily microtaper is more upsetting than a small 5% drop might be.

It may be better to have more days in between ml drops.  It's bordering on "fiddling" with doses.

I'm out today, I'll try to look in later.

Hi JanCarol!

I am interested and unclear why this (above) would be. Or why it is bordering on fiddling with doses? Aren't I doing the same thing-a 10% drop (or maybe changing to a 5%) but even slower?

Also if I do change to 5%, do I drop again in two instead of 4 weeks or wait 4 weeks at 5%? I feel like I am just starting to get to know my body in this regard.

Because you are making daily adjustments.  It's just not sneaky enough for your system.  It might be sneaky enough for someone else, but apparently not for you.

It takes 3 days for plasma levels to change, 3 weeks for neurotransmitters to adjust.  I hoped you could get away with the daily microtaper, but I was apparently wrong.

If you are sensitive, your best plan is to drop 5% and wait a month to see how it unfolds.

You have yet to do 2 tapers the same way in a row, which is why it borders on "fiddling."

I guess I am a little stumped because when I titrated off klonopin, this method worked wonderfully. I held if I became symptomatic, I had to updose a few times, but I came off. Of course that was before the antipsychotic mess. Maybe I am just this sensitive to the antipsychotics?

Ok for now I am just going to try to hold where I am which is on my second 10% drop, 9 days in, so hold for about 3 weeks then drop 5%. Sound right? UNLESS this passes quickly and then I will consider the full 10% drop.

It is so hard not to get discouraged. By my sensitivity. By the timeline, I try not to think about how long these small drops will take, but it's hard not to. Or to feel like it is a pipe dream that I will be able to come off. Don't mean to sound negative, just down I guess. I want this so much.

Hey D

Experiments need to have constants in order to be clearly understood.  The constant in this case - style of tapering.  Whatever you choose - stick with it for a few months, keep it simple:

3 KIS's Keep It Simple, Slow, Stable

I think the 5% is good.  You won't know for 3 months whether or not you will be able to accelerate, because if you keep accelerating every month, they can pile up.  So plan on next taper, 1 change a month (remember you want to move the klonopin, too), for next 3 months, then you will know if the 5% is for you, and whether 4 weeks is a "pattern of symptoms."

In order to get a pattern, the same constants must be repeated.

So in short - I don't know why things happen the way they do, especially in another person.  I just know that slow is good, and it's hard at first, but you will get the hang of it.  You'll start to get glimpses of life above the water...I've read a few of them in your thread!  These help keep you going.

Hey D

Klonopin is a different animal to the neuroleptics and antidepressants.

I'm not a benzo expert, but I've heard of people doing daily microtapers with them.  We don't encourage that here - but other websites do.

You got this!  I think you're getting a handle on what it will take to get you off the drugs.  I know you're discouraged about the time frame, but the more you experience windows - and as the drug gets lower and lower in your system - you'll be unstoppable.

Don't think about how long the whole process takes.  You teach mindfulness - that's Later.  Only now can you address.

I would like more of these. I hold onto them to help me ride the waves. I am going to do the 5% then and see what reveals itself to me. I notice whenever I have the terror/dread symptom I ALSO have the hot and cold flashes symptom. The Hope and Help for your Nerves book is really a help. Today I have a bunch of things on my plate. I was afraid to go to sleep last night since mornings are usually the worst time of day but I am not too bad after a run. My daughter is having a heartbreak right now and I am trying to show up for that. I appreciate your enthusiasm and hope. It helps me to feel like I can do this. Thank you.

I think that this is like hot flushes - with a bang.

I remember when I had hot flushes - there was a huge surge of adrenaline that always set them off.  Someone pulled out in front of me in traffic, or someone said something that was slightly insulting, and in an instant I went from going about my business - to hot, goosebumpy, sweating, and off my tree.  I began to notice to feel that surge of adrenaline first - and I found for whatever reason, just knowing it was an adrenaline spike, made it easier to survive the burning.

I'm sure your drug induced flushes are more intense - but - can you look to see if there are little triggers that set your chemical cascade off?

Windows and waves, D, windows and waves!

I see both - a window on Thursday, a wave on Saturday.

You got this!

Stay the course!  What kind of condition are you in for the Silly Season?  I would keep changes to a minimum during this time - maybe instead of your next taper, start the Klonopin moving?

Here's what I said about the Klonopin on 20-September-2017:

Quote

When you are feeling fairly stable (every day is about the same for 2 weeks to a month) - then it's time to start moving the klonopin.  Start by moving it 1 hour per day.  Take half at your regular 8 am time, and half at 9 am.  Do that for 4 days, then move the second dose to 10 am.  4 days later, move the second dose to 11 am.   Continue with that - tracking your symptoms the whole time - until you are taking half at 8 am and half at 8 pm.  If you are suffering interdose withdrawal, you should notice changes in your times of anxiety.  This will be valuable information.

When you get your klonopin split between 8am and 8 pm, plan to hold there for awhile.

You can probably shorten that to every 3 days pretty easily.

Please keep detailed notes, because this will help you find out how much of your native anxiety is caused by the klonopin!

I hope you see the sun today!

"Easy, easy - just go easy and you'll finish." - Hawaiian Kapuna

I messed up I think. Started the next 10% drop while spilitting klonopin dosage. Sometimes I cannot keep all this straight. Really. I am scheduled to see my new doc for second visit today. I feel like I have nothing good to report other than I am working towards the next 10% and I know it is slower than they has originally recommended. Today is hard. I had two meetings regarding studio business and just thinking felt overwhelming. I was considering doing this training to kind of occupy my mind but now it seems like a potential trigger (deepening teaching skills). I know it will get better, but feel kind of desperate right now. Meeting with functional people is difficult.

OMG. I miscalculated the weeks somehow in my date book. This is why I feel so bad. It is too early to start dropping again.  : (

What should I do? Just hold here and wait for things to even out? Updose back?

Hey D -

Okay, I'm confused -

How far did you get on the klonopin split?

It is mistakes like this that we talk about keeping it simple.  For example, if you switch from tapering Geodon to tapering Saphris (your big bear) - then you will be doing liquid tapers of 2 drugs.  This is why I suggested you get the Geodon down to a dry dose - like 1/2 of a 10 mg tablet - before starting the Saphris.  It's almost a simply mechanical reason - it's easier to not make mistakes.

I had a simple taper, and I still made lots of mistakes.

Okay - here's what I understand:

You were splitting the klonopin (how far apart did you get?) when you went ahead and did your next taper of Geodon?

Is that correct?

If your symptoms are bearable I would hang in there and see if you can get away with it.  I wouldn't encourage it - but now that it's done, see if you can survive it.  If the symptoms become unbearable, you can updose by 5% and probably ease your symptoms.  Please stop moving the klonopin, and plan to pick up the move in a few weeks time, as it would be best to have the klonopin split into 2 equal daily doses.

Let us know what's up, and see if you can clarify in your signature.

My suggestions are not medical advice, you are in charge of your own medical choices.

A lifetime of being prescribed antidepressants that caused problems (30 years in total). At age 35 flipped to "bipolar," but was not diagnosed for 5 years. Started my journey in Midwest United States. Crossed the Pacific for love and hope; currently living in Australia.   CT Seroquel 25 mg some time in 2013.   Tapered Reboxetine 4 mg Oct 2013 to Sept 2014 = GONE (3 years on Reboxetine).     Tapered Lithium 900 to 475 MG (alternating with the SNRI) Jan 2014 - Nov 2014, tapered Lithium 475 mg Jan 2015 -  Feb 2016 = GONE (10 years  on Lithium).  Many mistakes in dry cutting dosages were made.

So, I went to see my new doc. Here's the stats:

I am had to updose the Geoden by 5%, now holding at 81ML Geoden. That number represents two 10% drops. It is a capsule so it is a water taper.

I have begun the Saphris taper. It involves a milligram scale and breaking the sublingual wafer to bits. I am at day 2 of first 10% drop. .021mg

I am holding at splitting the klonopin dose to two hours apart for now.

I feel ok right now, but the last few days have been rocky for sure. I am going to update my signature now if I have enough room!
