Miguel,

I do not think the limb jerks are anything to worry about, personally, but I am not a doctor.  it is common with some people in WD.  I still have it happen to me, in fact happened to me IN FRONT of a doctor today, and he commented about it.  Pretty much said they are harmless, just a bother to notice them sometimes.  I do hope this helps.  if you are very concerned, you can check with your doctor, but with you being in WD, I am not surprised.  It may even happen for a while after you are totally drug free.

Be well!

Skeeter

Current meds: Lexapro 20mg, Valium 6.25mg
Current status: September 2018 forced to go down to 10mg of Valium/Diazepam from around 15mg, with the plan to have me totally of in 2 more months. I was not given a chance to give input at tapering at this speed, please go much, much slower. Luckily I found a new doctor, but was thrown off course by my rapid taper, as of 2/19 am down to 6.25mg, and am stable. Will update with dates of taper ASAP.

I am NOT a doctor. My opinions are just that- MY opinions, based on my personal experiences and research, but your experience and reactions may differ greatly, we are all different! I maintain that a doctor educated in withdrawal is the best place to get info or to get the "go ahead" before changing your medications in any way!

Arm and leg movements are pretty common during WD.  I used to get them all the time I'd have a wave of them for a few weeks and then they would stop for a while before coming back.  They are very bothersome but mostly harmless.  Like Skeeter said, if they worry you get them checked out, but they are probably nothing.

20 years on Paxil starting at 20mg and working up to 40mg. Sept 2011 started 10% every 6 weeks taper (2.5% every week for 4 weeks then hold for 2 additional weeks), currently at 7.9mg. Oct 2011 CTed 15oz vodka a night, to only drinking 2 beers most nights, totally sober Feb 2013.

Since I wrote this I have continued to decrease my dose by 10% every 6 weeks (2.5% every week for 4 weeks and then hold for an additional 2 weeks). I added in an extra 6 week hold when I hit 10mg to let things settle out even more. When I hit 3mgpw it became hard to split the drop into 4 parts so I switched to dropping 1mgpw (pill weight) every week for 3 weeks and then holding for another 3 weeks.  The 3 + 3 schedule turned out to be too harsh so I cut back to dropping 1mgpw every 4 weeks which is working better.

Final Dose 0.016mg.     Current dose 0.000mg 04-15-2017

Miguel,

Just keep holding.  If exercise helps you with anxiety, go ahead and try it, but heed my warnings about overdoing it, and keep talking to your friend!

Be well!

I'm not sure what yours is but this sounds a lot like my aural migraines. Not much pain but when it's happening, I can't understand what I read and feel a little confused. Mine are triggered by a very bright light in most cases but not always. I hope you figure out what they are. This started happening before I used an SSRI and is very rare now.

Dalalea's Introduction

Off All SSRI Medications: Effexor 2010 one month
Sertraline 50 mg. but only took 25 mg. daily because of dizziness. 2010 to July 2017

Tapered over 2 months beginning the 1st of June 2017 -- Off Sertraline by July 30, 2017

Current Medication: Losartan (blood pressure), Albuterol (for asthma- only as needed)
Current Symptoms: tinnitus, hearing loss in one ear, allergies

My Plan: Prayer, Scripture, Walk, Yoga, Encourage Others, Healthy Eating
Generic SSRI Withdrawal Symptom and Plan Checklists and Graph.xlsx

Current Supplements: Magnesium Threonate, Fish Oil, probiotic, B-12, C, D-3

Miguel, you need to manage your health anxiety. You know all about waves and windows now. When we say recovery is gradual, frustrating, and can take a long time, we mean a long time. You might be in this for years, you will need to take the waves in stride.

This is not medical advice. Discuss any decisions about your medical care with a knowledgeable medical practitioner.

Talvez voce possa tentar fazer alguma coisa assim.

You are from Portugal so I will write in Portuguese. I was born in Brazil, despite being American. If you're having too many symptoms every time you lower your dosage, you need to go a lot slower. I'm decreasing my Lexapro. I started to decrease with 15 mg in October of 2016. Today is May 2018 and I'm taking 9.20 mg, you see how I'm going slow? I don't have any bad symptoms when I lower my dosage, because I'm going 1% a week. Sometimes I get a headache and a little bit of anxiety, but nothing much. Maybe you can try to do something like that. Decrease by 1% per week, maybe it's better than 5% decrease and wait 5 weeks to decrease again. And it's definitely better than decreasing 10% and wait 2 months to decrease again. The body does not like sudden changes of dosage of medicine. You can expect your symptoms to get a lot better and slow down a lot slower.  Besides, what they always say here, and ' that you need to calm down and understand that this process can take years, many years. I think it's going to take me 10 years to get to zero. But I'd rather take 10 years than get suicidal or not be able to do anything. It can be Q even 1% per week end up being a lot at some point, and in that case, I'm going to do 1% every two weeks. The important thing in this process is to take it easy and learn other ways to control your anxiety. Because otherwise, you're going to suffer a lot. I hope I helped.

@mona11 Please, to save moderator time for helping people vs translating, write in English on the thread, since you are both very adept at English.  You are very welcome to chat with Miguel via PM in Portuguese, we would never try to take that away!  The language is English here, and if you did not know how to speak it, people generally  use translator apps and paste the results with no issue.  The reason this is important is because the mods, all volunteer, can be stretched quite thin, plus it adds more text on an already growing thread that people must scroll  through that does not apply to most.  Miguel is kind, and I am sure he would love to chat about non-WD things via PM in his mother tongue!   Thank you for being a contributing member, and offering others help. We all appreciate that so very much. We do get so many people from all countries that come here, and must translate pages at a time, so having another language can muck that up, I imagine, and we do not want to make that any harder on anyone, for sure.

Mona,

GREAT advice above!  if you get a chance, if you wish to scan his thread, or at the very least read the very beginning, then from when he was doing the Brassmonkey Slide, when I noticed he was really struggling, in order to see how/when he started to really have issues to see if you can add anything that has helped yo personally, only IF you wish to.  Since you are WD'ing from the same drug, you may have some extra wisdom.  Thank you so much dor being a contributing member.  Miguel's English has really improved even just in the time he has been here, and he is picking up slang as well.  Fun to see!

Thank you!!

Will update with dates of taper ASAP.

well i have been struggling now I don't know why did it start I was doing my normal brass monkey slide total of 6 % I know I did a bit more than 1.5 % on the first cut but because I didn't have the small 1 ml syringe but after that I gave it a little more time 1 and half weeks an then I decreased only 1 .5 % and the problems started

i am holding until I make the 2 mouths mark but symptoms are going up I am in a wave right now

all my points went down to worse

Depression is worse

anxiety worse

nero-fear worse

suicidal thoughts ramped up

I will keep fighting but I really didn't understand why it happens

i actually gave it more time from the previous 4 cuts i  gave it like 1 month and half instead of 1 mouth

Sorry, I thought we could speak Portuguese. I just saw that you were taking 20 mg on 05/2017. You went from 20 mg on 05/2017 to 7.65 mg on 04/2018. This is way too much, isn't it?  I understand that you CTed at first and then you reinstated. You have to remember that your body was used to 20 mg not to 10 mg, so you are not doing the brass monkey scale. You actually dropped much more than 5% per month. If you had dropped 5% per month, you should be taking something around 10.5 mg, now. But you are taking 7.65 mg. I'm not a moderator, but I would advise you  to hold for some months. Maybe until October. Or if a moderator can help you,, maybe you could reinstate some mg to get yourself feeling a little better.

1

9pm to 6pm

Ps:going up the dose is off the board dont wonna have reaction like the others did , last cut was 1mouth and 2days ago and i am starting to see the recent uplift of symptoms go down since i resumed nicotine ain't gonna try to quit nicotine again until i am fully of this drug

But ty for your help i will be more carrefull about the next cuts and dont forget i smoked weed on 03/2018 and had a bad reaction maybe it can also be caused by that.

Miguel,

Mona is 100% right!

Miguel, I follow every person I left a comment on, and so do other mods, so you do not have to  click on "quote"  every time, If you want to know, mods are interchangeable, so if Alto , or for example, a different mod pops in, they might answer instead, so no quote is ever needed.  If you look at most other threads,  you might notice we most people not use "quote", except to use it for a small section of the message that is important, or like in the case above, where I had to translate the entire message so everyone could understand, it is nice to have them both in the same post.  Using quote all of the time can make it hard for anyone reading your thread to see what your journey was to read, because you are repeating it all, and makes it 2x as long to scroll through. I have found out that many people simply give up, and do not read threads that have everything repeated.   I know when I was in severe WD myself, just reading only what people typed was almost too much, my brain could not handle any extra text in a box (I had to use a piece of paper folded in half to cover up anything extra...  I could not watch TV, or even read books, so that is another reason to not use the quote button, for others in WD.   Now, sine this is your thread, for ME to talk to mona, I will put her name, which you will see highlighted in blue, to get her attention, something you can do if you have not talked to her in a while.  You can either go to her thread to write to her, PM her in Portuguese, if you like, and ask her to read your thread, if you like.  Hope this helps you!!

Now when I say hold 2 months, or another mod suggests that, what we mean literally is "hold 2 months and then re-evaluate."  It does not mean wait 2 months, and start tapering on 2 months and one day.  Mona could be right, you MAY need to hold for several months, if your symptoms slowly get better, then resume, but lets see what your symptoms do.    Lexapro is 2x as strong  than other AD's.  You made some  major, major changes, and then started tapering without waiting very long.  The way you feel now is most likely due to your original drop vs the BrassMonkey Slide part. You may have to hold for several months.  Benzodiazipine WD and AD WD is what I went through before I started here, and I will say they are very similar, I could not do anything, so I just had to wait until my symptoms got better, and it was tough, but not as tough as if I had not been on a low dose of a benzo(AD was first, then I switched to Lexapro, which saved me, but a bad decision was made, and I went right into severe Benzo WD a month later).  Note: some things happen in life that are stressful, so you might choose to hold while going through the stress (breaking up with a friend, a sick family member, etc), because being stressed out generally causes our symptoms to ramp up.  I was supposed to start tapering already, but I had 2 relatives die this year alone (one last month), and I have court coming up, and I do not wish to be in withdrawal when doing that.

You can get through these windows and waves.  Windows, as you probably remember, are when you feel good, waves, when you feel bad. Your body is still recovering from your huge drop, and it might take a little while.  Please be patient.  Keep us updated to your exact syptoms, and how severe they are every so often. I understand resuming smoking.  I had wondered if that was going to be a issue.  Some people can quit, some cannot.  I know you were vaping, the most recent literature says that is better than smoking, but you do your own research and decide, you will be getting nicotine either way.

Be well!

Mona11,

Thank you so much for the great advice to Miguel.  THANK YOU for reading how he got here, I just new you would get it, and give great advise! The "@Mona11" command is not working for me today, oddly!  I hope you see this.  I may try later, perhaps they are updating the software...lol!

We love multilingual people, but we only do translating for people who truly do not understand computers, barely make it through the registration process, and then do not know how to use a translator.  That is rare, but  it happens.  When I first was a mod, we had a lady who only spoke French, and her messages were very short (thankfully).  In Canada, as you know, they speak French and English in many instances, and our French Canadian mod stepped in to translate.  I just wanted you to know that I love the fact that you wanted to write to him in his mother tongue, I bet he loved it!  Sadly it makes a lot of work for us.  I am just so glad you stepped in to talk to him, as it is so helpful.

Thanks again,

Skeeter

Miguel,

We are happy to share that.  With mods, you do not need to use that usually, but for me for example (and it was not working yesterday, is the @ sign, then the persons user name.  So for you, for example, for me to get you it is @Miguel, and then a list will come up (in color) right below, and you pick the correct person, but the command is not working for me right now, so I will have to check on that.  I was hoping it would be fixed by now...  If I hear anything, I will let you know.  if you do want to use the quote feature, how I do it is click quote, delete everything but the one or two sentences I wish to keep- like a question I wish to reply to, or an important quote, as in you really liked what the person said, and then thank them for it below, and then the room taken up is tiny, compared to the whole message, esp mine, which are long...lol!  Just highlight what you do not want with your mouse in the quote box, and hit the delete key.  If someone else does it in a more streamlined way, they will step in and tell you, after reading this.

Thank you for taking my advice on posting, you certainly do not have to do it the way I suggested, but more people might read your thread and respond, the easier it is to read, and i would like that very much for you!!

Try not to be too down by the fact that you may have to hold for a while.  it is better than going too fast, and then trying to reinstate, and find that you cannot because you are sensitized to the drug, which actually happens. RI'ing once is usually okay, but starting yet again if you went too fast, and you can be stuck with how you feel for a very long time, and it will probably be much, much worse than if you tapered correctly.  I have oly seen it turn out badly with Lexapro and going too fast, to be honest.  Not said to scare you, but to ease your mind that you are doing the right thing!

Be well!

Miguel,

It is working for you, but not for me.  I need to restart, I think because it works on other screens, just not yours on my PC...lol!  Glad you found someone close and you can see the difference.  Just keep updating us on y our symptoms and the severity, and we will keep an eye out.  You do not need a mod to reply.  Now if you have not looked on other parts of the site, if you go to the Forums page (top left of the page), and go to:

Symptoms and Self Care: http://survivingantidepressants.org/forum/8-symptoms-and-self-care/

or Social Life and Relationships: http://survivingantidepressants.org/forum/11-relationships-and-social-life/

and you won't need any help from a mod unless something new comes up that has not happened before.  This here is your journal, you can write what you like, any questions will be answered by mods or other members like Mona11, who is on the ball for sure with Lexapro!  I know you did it this time to show me it was working for you- you are a quick learner!  I do hope all my explanations work well for you. You catch on fast though, made changes right away.

Be well!  Keep talking to your new friends!

Read my history here: http://survivingantidepressants.org/index.php?/topic/12819-skeeters-journey/

I am NOT a doctor. My opinions are just that- MY opinions, based on my personal experiences and research, but your experience and reactions may differ greatly, we are all different! I maintain that a doctor educated in withdrawal is the best place to get info or to get the "go ahead" before changing your medications in any way!

Well, guys, my doctor changed a lot she now knows all about withdrawals and the effects of the tapering on hormones and thyroid and heart induced rhythm problems

she gave me complete thyroid exam not just standard

and she is considering a full hormonal panel exam

she did tell me that the hormonal changes will eventually return to baseline when I am off the pill

but she did say to take my time and hold at some points in the taper

and she advises me to change to liquid Lexapro since its a lot more accurate

She does have a suspicion of hypothyroidism

(Reversible SSRI induced Hypothyroidism)

she said that in case its indeed at the low end or Low she will

replenish the thyroid hormones so I don't have such a hard time

and eventually, after I am off the pill she will try to remove the hormones

I also will make an ECG 12 because my heart started acting up and tnx god she noticed it

She also said that a lot of withdrawal-related literature is coming out

and that there will be soon a program to help people to come off

and the fun fact is I don't have to pay anything, not even they appointment

she is a really nice doctor  a lot of doctors do that in Portugal

they just take you in and most of the time you don't even pay the small fee for the appointment

and all the medications have huge discounts

and normally the push for generic instead of brand

Love my Healthcare system

ps:my heart is acting strange she noticed

blood pressure is changing all the time and i have been feeling chest pressure

Hi Miguel,

I'll try and help you with the math.

And please consider at least some adaptation of the crossover I've given you below.

escitalopram 20 mg = 1mL   hence or therefore B)

10 mg = 0.5 mL

Yes, you can mix it with water. You could even consider getting a glass graduated cylinder(with markings) from ebay

Yes, for accuracy you would then want your total solution to be 10 mL which contains 10 mg of your active ingredient escitalopram

9.5mL water + 0.5 mL(or 10 mg of your active ingredient)= 10 mL

10mg per 10 mL final solution

For your present dose of 7.65 mg you then need to take 7.65 mL

Be cautious with the switch from your homemade solution to the new diluted pharmacy solution.  There may be some absorption adjustments in this process.  You are going from liquid to liquid, yet you are also going from crushed or dissolved tablet/pill in water to a new pharmacy formulation in liquid.

You should give yourself time to adjust, without further tapering, until you have been on the new solution for at least a month or two.

  • When changing from homemade to pharmacy liquid we suggest you keep taking your current dose (in other words do not reduce your dose)
  • and cross over by taking 3/4 old liquid dose + 1/4 new liquid dose for about 3 days,
  • 1/2 old liquid dose + 1/2 new liquid dose for 3 days,
  • 1/4 old liquid dose + 3/4 new liquid dose for 3 days, then all new liquid.
  • After changing over to the new  liquid it would be better to hold at that dose for at least 2 months.
  • If you have to, for accuracy, it's always best to round up on your dose.

Love, peace, healing, and growth,

Late 2023- gone to emeritus status, inactive, don't @ me, I can check who I've posted on, and I'm not really here like I used to be......thanks.

Started with psycho meds/psychiatric care circa 1988.  In retrospect, and on contemplation, situational overwhelm.

Rounding up to 30 years of medications(30 medication trials, poly-pharmacy maximum was 3 at one time).

5/28/2015-off Adderal salts 2.5mg. (I had been on that since hospital 10/2014)

12/2015---just holding, holding, holding, with trileptal/oxcarb at 75 mg. 1/2 tab at hs.  My last psycho med ever!  Tapered @ 10% every 4 weeks, sometimes 2 weeks to

That's unfortunate.

And hard to say Miguel.  As far as what you might experience.

You might experience some more W/D discomfort.

If it becomes too uncomfortable or you do experience worsening of symptoms.........after 4-7 days try a mini updose.    If symptoms seem worse.  If I were you, and I only was experiencing the usual symptoms, like those you report after tapering and ongoing, I would just HOLD your 7.65mg dose and ride it out.

In any case.......if I were you I would certainly be HOLDING for the next month or two now.
