Franchi: Introduction

Hi, I have been on a benzo for over 10+ year's. C/ O  from Xanax to Diazepam in 2009 and did the cut and hold taper for 5 months, dropping 12 mg's. This was way too fast and haphazard. I upped dose to 10 mg's in 3/2010 and did not attempt to taper until 2013. I used a micro taper at that time, upped the dose to 12 mg's and then over 4 year's tapered down to 1.55 mg's and things went really bad. It took 8 month's to get from 2 mg's to 1.55 mg's. August of 2016 thing's were quite bad and I stopped tapering, upped slowly to 4 mg's and that is where I am at now.

I know I need to start tapering again at some point, I am very fearful tho. I realize I tapered through some really stressful months in 2016 which more than likely contributed to the ending result. I did not listen to my body or symptoms and kept removing minute amounts daily using liquid.

I do understand that this forum is for A/D's so I hope I am welcome here. Looking for peer support and more knowledge.

Thank you.

Hi Franchi and welcome to SA,

The tapering of benzos is very similar to tapering ADs and we have lots of helpful information on this site.  I'm not very knowledgeable where benzos are concerned but I wanted to welcome you and get you started.

The first thing we ask all members to do is to create a drug signature.  This will appear whenever you post.  Please update it whenever make a change so that it remains current.  Please follow these instructions:

A request: Would you summarize your history in a signature - ALL drugs, doses, dates, and discontinuations & reinstatements, in the last 12-24 months particularly?

  • Please leave out symptoms and diagnoses.
  • A list is easier to understand than one or multiple paragraphs.
  • Any drugs prior to 24 months ago can just be listed with start and stop years.
  • Please use actual dates or approximate dates (mid-June, Late October) rather than relative time frames (last week, 3 months ago)
  • Spell out months, e.g. "October" or "Oct."; 9/1/2016 can be interpreted as Jan. 9, 2016 or Sept. 1, 2016.
  • Link to Account Settings – Create or Edit a signature.
