Update

Stopping in only for a quick update.  Glo turned 26 today.  It will be 6 years this coming March that we have been dealing with the iatrogenic medication event that harmed Glo's brain.  It has been 34 months since she jumped to zero.

I am happy to report that Glo is continuing to make improvements.  Although she still cycles through the windows and waves, her windows show us a Glo that resembles the 'old Glo' more and more.  She is talking better and continues to want to do things more. She still has pretty bad anxiety when she is out in public anywhere, unfortunately, but we keep taking her out.  The last 2 months have revealed some big leaps 'forward' in her healing process.

She is laughing more and was able to open her Christmas presents and Birthday presents by herself this year. She also blew out her candles too!  Her memory is getting better and she is recognizing and loving on her dog, Sorry, again. He is very happy about that.

We took a trip in October to the beach and she walked there each day and wanted to actually get her feet wet each day.  That was a big improvement over our last trip. Her cognition unfortunately has not returned to her 'normal' so we hope for more improvements there. All in all.... we remain hopeful that 2022 will be the year of her immense healing!

Time has been the only healer for Glo.  It is amazing how long it is taking......but she is getting better and better and better. Hang in there!

Wishing all of you a Peaceful and Healing New Year!!  Glosmom

I am so thrilled to hear that Glo could open her presents this year.  We take all of that for granted until our brains are damaged.  Wishing her a very Happy Birthday and all of you a Happy New Year.

Thirty-four months!  Fantastic!  What a lucky one she is to have a mom like you.  You have taken such good care of her, and it shows.  I know that it’s been distressing to have this happen to her, and I’m so happy you are seeing the results of your love and devotion.  She will continue to improve more and more.

(I am six weeks away from my 5 year anniversary of finishing my very short taper of an AD and CT of a benzo and Trazodone.  I have experienced a lot of improvement in the last couple of months.  My daughter is now 10 1/2.  She was 5 1/2 when I jumped off the last med.)

Thank you all for your words of encouragement @RachelSusan @ShiningLight @carefulprayerful and @Rosetta!!   I will write her success story when she is closer to her 'normal' which includes freely talking, enjoying social things and maybe getting a part time job.  I imagine it could still be a bit of time before those things happen but we are happy for the improvements we are seeing.  She was able to sit through going to the movies to see the new Spiderman movie....so that was a success....although it stressed her out afterwards.   I will continue to take her to social things as I believe she craves the social interaction, even though it causes her to have waves.  Risk Reward Benefit calculation, I guess.

Sooooo happy to hear that you are having improvements @Rosettaas you reach your 5 year mark!!  Very inspiring...so thank you for that and congratulations on the milestone!!!.

Hello!

It has been awhile since I posted.  Trying hard to live my own healthy life and continue to support Glo on her healing journey.  It has been 3 years and 7 months since she 'jumped to zero.'  Gloria is continuing to heal!  It is still a very slow journey with the continued waves and windows.  Her windows are so joyful to see but her waves still come. It is hard to believe that they continue to plague her.  However, hope remains and her improvements far outshine her bad times.

She came downstairs last night while my husband and I were watching, "Black Adam" and she was talking nicely as she said, "You love me, Mom" and I smiled as I said, " Yes, Mom loves you very much!" She let me hug and kiss her forehead and she kissed me back.  She then said, "I am getting better every day." And I replied, "Yes you are!  Better and better."  She then said, "You talk with me about everything." And I said, "Yes, Mommy talks with you about everything and anything you need."  For those not familiar with Glo or her story....these were very clear and 'high functioning' thoughts for Glo.  She doesn't always talk to me at this high of level (her high level) but the frequency is coming more often.

She then sat and watched the rest of Black Adam....which is dark and scary....so i was surprised she stayed and tolerated it. We then quickly switched to Hallmark movies to change to 'happier topics' and she stayed to watch for that too.  These continue to be huge improvements for Glo...coming downstairs to interact with family.  Also her sleeping continues to improve except during menstrual cycle times.  She tolerates going out much better and is spending 4 to 5 hours out with her companion and at her Day Program 3 or 4 days a week.  These are both major improvements from last year.  I could write more about all her improvements but time is short before I have to go back to work tomorrow.  I will write more next month, as she has a birthday.

She is still not herself and continues to struggle with reading, writing, playing games, anger spirals and talking at her 'pre injured' level but the improvements are still coming after all these years.

For those of you who are struggling, hang in there. Time is the only answer to healing...lots and lots of time.

I am grateful for Glo's continued healing this Thanksgiving and I wish for continued healing for all of you!!

Warmest Regards,

Glosmom

@Glosmom How wonderful to get such a nice update about Gloria.  Yes, as you said it takes a long time to heal.

You sound good as well. I can't even begin to imagine what you as a parent must have felt having to watch Gloria move through this difficult time. It must have been unbearably painful for you as well. You both are healing.

Thank you for checking in.  I look forward to reading more when you do the check in for her birthday.

Thank you for your reply @RachelSusan  Yes, I realized I had to take care of myself if I was going to care for Gloria for the rest of her life. Lost 30 lbs, started lifting weights and eating 'clean food' all the time and I feel the best I have at 57 than I ever did in my 30s and 40s!!  I  would recommend everyone dump all processed food and start lifting weights whenever they feel they are ready!

Best Regards, Glosmom
