CGHolding: tapering off mirtazapine

CGHolding

Recommended Posts

I made  the cut to 17mg on Tuesday 12th February. Some withdrawal symptoms, challenging but manageable.
I think the body (when on antidepressants) must find a new way to "cry"' and that's why tapering feels like a shift.
Patience is key.

March 2007   Bromezepam 3 mg     2008   Mirtazapine 45 mgs

2011  30 mgs Valium (after cross-over)  Oct 2014  Valium taper at 10% reductions

Jan 16  15mg                                  slow reduction                   Oct 2016  7 mg

Nov 16 - Dec 17 gradual Valium taper       Jan 2018 1 mg

Feb 2018  Valium free

Started Mirtazapine taper on 14th November 2017 (from 45 mgs) I cut at around 10-15% to 37.5 mgs

Put taper on hold to come off valium first. Resumed June 2018 and cut to 33.5 mgs

July 18   30 mg          Oct  18    26.25 mg       Nov 18    22.5 mg            Jan 19   18.75 mg     Feb  19    17 mg

Mar  19   15 mg         Apr 19    13.5 mg           May 19    11.25 mg         July 19    10 mg         Aug 19   8 mg

Sept 19   7.5mg         Oct 19      6.5 mg           Dec  19     5 mg                Jan 20-July 20  slow taper to  1.8mg

Thanks for the update, CG.

I hear you've successfully gone off the benzodiazepines. How did that go?

You might want to hold on any more mirtazapine reductions for a while, let your nervous system settle from recent drug changes.

A lot of people find fish oil and magnesium supplements helpful, see

Try a little bit of one at a time to see how it affects you.

Good. I was on benzos for almost ten years. I was successful with my tapering and though it got a bit rocky at lower doses, I am off it and I can't say I miss them.
Thank you for your recommendations regarding supplements. I will look into it.
