Dedicated to all my fellow warriors....this is a wee bit corny...but it helped me find that little spark today to eat a healthy breakfast and hop in the shower...I really like the lyrics. Much Love K xo

Update:  Today I took my last dose of dexamphetamine. 0.1mg. It's been diificult to taper so quickly, however, the benefits to my health outway all of the horrible withdrawal symptoms. Psychologically I think I will also benefit from just knowing I am not injesting this particular poison anymore and not have to worry about the detrimental interaction between dexamphetamine and fluoxetine.  So my next step is to stabilise from the all the multiple psychotropic drugs and cessation's which have thrown my beautiful brain (yes, from now on I'm calling it beautiful ) and CNS into such a destabilised chaotic mess.

Love to you All. K

You will make it. You are one tough cookie.

Take care,

Frogie xx

PREVIOUS medications and discontinuations: Have been on medications since 1996.

Valium, Gabapentin, Lamictal, Prilosec and Zantac from 2000 to 2015 with a fast taper by a psychiatrist.

Liquid Lexapro Nov, 2016 to 31-March, 2019 Lexapro free!!! (total Lexapro taper was 4 years-started with pill form)

---CURRENT MEDICATIONS:Supplements:Milk Thistle, Metamucil, Magnesium Citrate, Vitamin D3, Levothyroxine 25mcg, Vitamin C, Krill oil.

Xanax 1mg 3x day June, 2000 to 19-September, 2020 Went from .150 grams (average weight of 1 Xanax) 3x day to .003 grams 3x day. April 1, 2021 went back on 1mg a day. Started tapering May 19, 2023. July 28, 2023-approximately .87mg. Dr. fast tapered me at the end and realized he messed up. Prescribe it again and I am doing "slower than a turtle" taper.

19-September, 2020 Xanax free!!! (total Xanax taper was 15-1/2 months-1-June, 2019-19-September, 2020)

I am not a medical professional.

The suggestions I make are based on personal experience.

Congratulations on getting off of the dexamphetamine, Kristine!  You do have a beautiful brain!!

-1/06 - 3/07 Cymbalta. Fast taper (essentially CT); withdrawal symptoms after 4 mos (didn't realize was WD)

-10/07: 100 mg Zoloft; 1 mg Klonopin - tapered off Klonopin after 4 mos. Several unsuccessful slow tapers of Zoloft; went up and down in dose a lot

-Spring 2013 back on 1 mg Klonopin to counter WD symptoms; switched over 5-6 mos from Zoloft to 35 mg citalopram
-Two attempts at slow tapering citalopram, always increased dose due to WD; also increased Klonopin to 1.25 mg in 2014, then to 1.5 mg in 2015

-8/17-9/17: After holding one year at 20 mg, feeling withdrawal symptoms due to stress - slowly increased to 25 mg. No change in symptoms after 6 months (? tolerance ?)  - decided to start citalopram taper February 2018 (still on Klonopin 1.5 mg).

Supplements: fish oil; magnesium; vitamin D3; curcumin

Citalopram taper:  2/2018 - 12/2019: 25 mg - 11.03 mg I 2020: 10.89 mg - 7.9 mg I 2021: 7.8 mg - 5.26 mg I 2022: 5.2 mg - 3.36 mg I 2023: 3.3 mg - 1.47 mg 2024: 1/5/24: 1.44 mg; 1/19/24: 1.40 mg; 1/26/24: 1.37 mg; 2/2/24: 1.34 mg; 2/9/24: 1.31 mg; 2/23/24: 1.28 mg; 3/1/24: 1.25 mg; 3/8/24: 1.22 mg; 3/15/24: 1.19 mg

Update: I think my body has gone into shock. I don't know. Late last night my menstrual cycle began. Unfortunatly this shouldn't happen due to the medication I take to prevent it (treatment for endometriosis). In December 2017 I had similar issues when I dropped  the dexamphetamine by 1.25mg...unfortunatly this turned into menorrhagia,I was anemic and ended up having a curettage of the uterus and a endometrial biopsy because my gynaecologist was concerned I had endometrial cancer. I don't. Anyway, it's all starting again...I'm flooding...and in agony...and in tears. To be honest, I'm feeling sorry for myself.  I just need a break. Is there a connection between this and the Dex? I guess I'll never know. It just seems more than a coincidence.  I have been offered the option of a hysterectomy but I really don't want to go down that path :(

Oh no, I am so sorry to read this.  It sounds like the bleeding could be related to dropping the dex as you experienced this before but I am not sure why the medication you take to prevent your cycle isn't working.  I hope the bleeding subsides soon and doesn't continue and you can avoid going through another curettage.  I don't know if you can take Ibuprofen - I think you had mentioned you have taken it before - but it can help with slowing bleeding down, and obviously with pain if you are having cramping.  It is completely understandable that you would be feeling sorry for yourself.  You have been through so much and SO deserve a huge break.  Let's hope it slows down on its own and you don't have to consider any alternatives at this point.  I wish I could come over and give you a big hug. Thinking about you  - WR

Thank you my friend, oh how I would love a 'real' hug from you. The endometriosis has been a problem for 14 years and I've had two major surgeries for that and fibroids. The pain is extreme. I think your are right...I'll take some ibuprofen, thank you for suggesting this. Also thank you for saying "let's hope it slows down on its own" because this could happen and I had started to catastrophize and we all know that's a useless slippery slope!  Anyway, I've got a heat pack on my tummy, I'm tucked up in bed and got lavender oil in my diffuser. Kristine, I'm so sorry.  What a difficult issue.  True, catastrophizing doesn't help at all.  It might be completely different this time.  No, you don't want a hysterectomy.  Not right now for heaven's sake.  Think positive thoughts.  Were you taking the birth control medicine the last time this happened?

2001-2011 Celexa 10 mg raised to 40 mg then 60 mg over this time period

2012-2016 - Doctors raised dose of Zoloft up to 150 mg

2016 - Xanax prescribed - as needed - 0.5 mg about every 3 days (bad reaction)

2016 - Stopped Xanax

Late 2016- Began (too fast) taper of Zoloft

Early 2017 - Trazodone prescribed for bedtime (doseage unknown)

Feb 2017 - Completed taper/stopped Trazodone

Thank you Rosetta,  I'm not rushing into having a hysterectomy. Not even close. I'm not even making an appointment with the gynaecologist. I will focus on positive thoughts...thank you for reminding me. Yes, I was taking the same medication last year. I just wish both of us could have a break. Much Love K xo

Update: I think my body has gone into shock.

It's amazing how sensitive we are to any changes.  Hopefully things will settle down for you.  I wouldn't be surprised if the WD is responsible for  or at least influenced the gyn problems.  Keep the faith, dear Kristine!  Well, I know you will.  You have shown an extraordinary amount of  fortitude.

Thank you :) I am so pleased you have woken up feeling "different for the better", however, I understand it can be strangely overwhelming. It's like not wanting to grasp too tightly onto the positive feeling for the fear it will evaporate as quickly as it appeared. Personally PB, I'd tell the warden to "get stuffed" :D

Much Love. K xo

Oh PB, I do hope the weather in Scotland is lovely. Where I live we are heading into the colder months. I prefer summer and I really do think the sunshine helped my symptoms...if I had the finances I think I'd go and live on an island in Fiji, eat fresh fish daily and swim in the tropical ocean. One can dream :)

Endometriosis, Kristine?  Damn.

I send my love and best wishes to you.  Someone very close to me suffers from that.

We joke about how the whole world would know more about it, if men were afflicted with something similar!

I hope that the endometriosis is not giving you too much grief. Hope the bleeding has stopped now. Is it possible that you forgot to take the medication to prevent menstruation at some stage during the past month? I am assuming that missing just one day could potentially cause breakthrough bleeds.

Hey LRH, So lovely to hear from you :) No, I didn't miss the medication. I'll just have to ride this out and see what happens next month. I see on your thread that you've had a dip my friend. I am so sorry. I'll visit your thread when I'm able. Much Love. K xo

Endometriosis, Kristine?  Damn.

I send my love and best wishes to you.  Someone very close to me suffers from that.

We joke about how the whole world would know more about it, if men were afflicted with something similar!

Hey Peng, Thank you for your visit and kind words. It is not something that I wish to be dealing with at the moment....on top of w/d it's difficult to manage. Hope you are travelling okay Peng. Much Love K xo

Hi Kristine:

Just wanted to say hi and hope you are doing better since your done with one of the meds. I guess you will know soon enough.

Endometriosis, I feel for you. I had to have a hysterectomy in 1996 because of it.

I am wishing nothing but well wishes for you.

Take care,

I believe there is a connection between dexamphetamine reduction/cessation and my menstral cycle being disrupted despite the medication I take for endometriosis (this contains a synthetic estrogen).  I had many issues whilst taking dexamphetamine as well. It appears that due to both Estrogen and amphetamine stimulate dopamine release it would be no surprise to me that my body is once again battling to regain homeostasis due to the removal of the dexamphetamine.

https://www.steadyhealth.com/medical-answers/interconnections-between-adderall-and-menstrual-cycle

"Estrogen seems to be responsible for such effects, giving that its concentration in blood is higher during follicular phase. Estrogen stimulates release of dopamine in the brain, which is also the main mechanism of action of many psychostimulants. Therefore, estrogen enhances the effects of amphetamines"......"amphetamines stimulate dopamine release in the brain. Dopamine is shown to stimulate release of Gonadotropin Releasing Hormone (GnRH) from hypothalamus, which then increases the release of hormones that regulate menstrual cycle: Follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) and Luteinizing hormone (LH) from hypophysis.  In other words, as both amphetamines and menstrual cycle are related to dopamine release, that could be the reason of menstrual disorders while taking these drugs.  In order to confirm these assumptions, more research is certainly needed".

The above is not concrete evidence, however, it has given me some rational as to what is happening to me which in turn has given me some peace of mind.

Love to you all. K xo

Just wanted to say hi and hope you are doing better since your done with one of the meds. I guess you will know soon enough.

Endometriosis, I feel for you. I had to have a hysterectomy in 1996 because of it.

I am wishing nothing but well wishes for you.

Oh Frogie, you are such a sweetheart. Thank you. I am so sorry you suffered from Endometriosis. It is a horrible disease. So terribly painful. I'm not in a good place at the moment but will visit your thread when I'm able. Much Love and (((hugs))) K xo

I forgot to mention the obvious....as the female cycle enters the last 14 days, the estrogen level drops and progesterone level rises (hello PMS), in my case when the dexamphetamine was ceased my dopamine level may have dropped significantly. This dramatic change in dopamine could have confused my body into starting the menstral cycle. This is only my hypothesis based on the limited information I can find. It would also explain my depressed mood and irritability.
