Headache most of day -- worsened by using the iPad screen -- this is a real problem.  I may need to stop using computer screens.

Hi Rosetta

I'm sorry you're getting headaches. Does is seem to be related to your eyes or tension from looking down? I get neck and shoulder aches from using my iPad. I can't hold it high enough to keep my neck from bending down without making my arms sore! LOL! I do best if I'm laying on my side.

So sorry about the despair! Saying a prayer for you to have a better day tomorrow!

Thanks Dalalea for stopping by.  I don't which or perhaps both.  I have to stop using computers for a while to see.  Last night, I had a headache almost all night long.  It was gone when I woke up, but the neck and shoulder tension was and is still there.    Had tea in case it was caffeine WD.

I managed to volunteer at my daughter's school.  There was less contact with the kids today.  Mostly paperwork.

Breakfast: egg and caffeinated tea

Teary, sad, feeling very down.

Slghtly anxious because I have no energy, but it's more a feeling of hopelessness.  I know this will pass.  I should be having a window soon.

A friend is coming over with her 3 1/2 year old and her dog.  Maybe not a good idea, but I need some social contact.

I doubt I'll go to gymnastics tonight.

This is Day 11

I feel terrible -- physically and emotionally

Almost all night last night I had a headache -- it was on the left side of my head more than the right, and this is unusual.  Today, I had indications that PMS hormones were at issue.   It's strange on Day 11, but that explains the headache.  It's better today, but as evening comes I may feel worse.  This cold/sore throat gets worse for my husband in the evenings and at night, too.  The 15 year old up the street said she had the same experience.  It's probably a virus, and it is affecting us more in the evenings.  I've never heard of such a thing.

Lunch: yogurt, egg salad

I'm trying to rest.  My daughter went to gymnastics with my husband.

Hi Rosetta, I’ve just been reading a lot of your thread. It’s hard going through this isn’t it? I’m sorry you’re getting headaches, did u use to get headaches before you tapered off the meds?

Do u still get akathisia? This is one of the worst symptoms I find. I’ve been cutting n holding for many years but after the withdrawals from the last taper settles I’m going to do a microtaper in teeny tiny increments.

Hope your headaches settle soon

Been on APs, benzos, ADs and opiates, for chronic pain. Had Akathisia in the past that made me suicidal. Hi Rosetta!

I'm sorry you still feel so horrible! Didn't you say you had strep? Usually I'm almost back to normal after a couple of days on an antibiotic. Have you had it rechecked? Your family has been suffering for quite a while!

Hope you get to feeling better soon!

Yes, it's probably strep, but now that the pain in the throat is gone, I can't justify risking what an antibiotic would do to my gut flora.  Any healing to the gut since the Zoloft would be in danger.  It's also hormones.  Together with WD, well, bad news.  At least I'm happy that my immune system still works.  The low grade headache continues.  It's very slight, but I'm quite sensitive to light, and if I move around my neck muscles ache less.  Lack of appetite contributes to the headache, too.  Fatigue is bad, but I can go for a walk. So, I don't think the strep is out of control.  No fever, no chills.  Thank you for your kind words.  I hope you are going along ok.

I understand about not wanting to risk antibiotics!

I'm fighting allergies right now and not doing antihistamines is causing discomfort. Lots of sinus issues. I'm holding off and using essential oils and vitamin C. It's been so windy the last few days and everything is blooming, so I end up with seasonal allergies. Other than that and tinnitus, I'm not too bad right now.

Feel better soon!

Just wanted you to know that I'm thinking of you Rosetta.  I wish I posted more often, but it's been pretty busy, stressful, and tough lately.  It takes all my concentration to stay on an even keel.  Here's hoping that you fully recover from your illness soon.

Heh.  Just thinking of you makes me smile, because I think about telling you to surf them waves.

I think I'm surfing lying down today, with my cheek mushed on the board, and my arms draped over the sides.

Here's hoping these waters don't have any sharks...

Anxiety since I was 5, and my Grandma died.  Depression since at least my early 20s.

Wellbutrin for unknown length of time in 2009  Guess: 6-9 months.  Cold Turkeyed in Dec 2009.

Citalopram 40mg end of 2014 until June 2017. Began within a few months after 4th child was born because I crashed.

Quit CT.  Had no major symptoms until Sept. Took Gaba from spring until near end of Nov 2017

Took St. John's Wort mixed with who knows what else from mid-summer to end of Sept..

Clonazepam 0.25 mg once a day since Sept. 18.  To stay sane.

Rough time since Sept. 18.  Tried to reinstate.  Repeatedly.  Failed.  Bad reaction.  Horrible cortisol spikes

I seem to react badly to anything I take right now.  Except Clonazepam.

End of December, forgot to take Clonazepam for a few days. Thought I could do without.

Appears I was wrong,  Jan. 1-2?   Trying to find the right way to deal with things.

Holding at 1/4 of 0.25mg pill morning and night.  Reinstated Jan. 5

Apr. 30, Got a scale.  Measuring roughly .25 mg of a .80mg pill that contains .25mg Clonazepam.

Finally, a night of sleep without pain!

I had very little anxiety as well.  What a relief!

Still coughing when I wake up.

This is Day 13.

Yesterday, I had a better day than Thursday.  Less anxiety, less Akathisia, less worry.   I took my daughter to school.  I picked her up, and we walked to a friend's house so she could play.  The mom of the family is a good friend, and it was nice to talk to someone about her problems instead of thinking about myself.  We stayed for hours.  When it was time to go home, my daughter had a headache.  At home she was low energy, and we went to bed on time.  She didn't eat much.  Today, she is fine.

Today, I feel good enough to feel bad about what a mess everything is.  I'm trying to accept, accept, accept.  Why do I feel so guilty and upset that I can't take care of my house?  Maybe it wouldn't bother me so much if my daughter wasn't young and things stayed in place unless I moved them.  The chaos of a 6 year old has taken over as I can't use my brain very well.  For me, this is the second most disturbing part -- all my organizational skills and ability to make decisions is damaged.  (Second to the random anxiety.)  I have no energy to organize when I have a less foggy day, and I feel so much anxiety that it's not organized.  I can't find things I need.

The plan is to get a bunch of plastic bins and put everything we don't use in the bins.  We will store them, and when I am healthier, we will sort through them.  It's important to get all this stuff out of sight.  We haven't done this yet because we have been sick.

@Longestroadhome Oh, yes, I do think the bad ones are related to that, but it used to be only one or two days per month.  It seems I'm having longer episodes of the hormones that cause the headaches.  I think it's perimenopause that is the problem that extends the hormone production.  Springtime seems to make it all more intense, too.

@Kristine  Thank you!

Yesterday was busy.  My daughter's friend came to play in the morning, and then we went to his birthday party in the afternoon.  It was at a park.  So, I had adequate sunshine.

The dystonia came back last night.  I can feel it in my neck mostly.  Reading makes it worse as usual.

I woke up with anxiety and lethargy.  Trying to Accept.

Still having a return of the cough and discomfort in my throat and ears, but only at night.  Same for my husband.  It's tempting to take ibuprophen every night, but I don't, just in case it makes WD worse.

I rested all day today.   I got a little sunlight late in the day, but I couldn't go for my walk.  I hope this lets up soon.  I'm very tired.

Here's hoping you have a good rest tonight, Rosetta.

I know how frustrating it can be, to be so tired, if you wish to be doing something.  Anything at all.

I actually had a window today!  I really hope you see some improvement tomorrow.  However small.

Thinking of you and wishing you all the best.

Waterfall.

This is interesting @Longestroadhome, good info. My period is a week late and /but I've been under high stress and air travel and a dark wave. Felt like I've had strong PMS for three weeks now.  @Rosetta, I hope you feel better today. I saw a remark you made on another thread about wishing these damn drugs were never invented -- I am so with you! If I wasn't just trying to remain alive each hour, I'd want to sue Pfizer or join a Class Action Suit against them (please, let this happen to wreak real consequences).

This is what I wish everyone could realize very quickly after finding SA:

1.  It's important to know that what you are experiencing is not mental illness, and equally important that you know you can heal.  (Once one thinks about what the drugs do, it makes perfect sense that our neurotransmitters would be changed for the worse after quitting the drugs.).

2.  Each person has a different journey.  Most stand a good chance of not having a severe case.

3.  SA, in a nutshell, says that once in WD the trick is to avoid new substances that may irritate the CNS.  Avoid adrenaline based numbing agents at the dentist for example.  Avoid alcohol, sugar, caffeine, and all supplements (except magnesium and Omega 3 fish oil.)  Avoid elective surgery!! Of course, avoid prescription pain meds and illegal substances.  Avoid muscle relaxants, and the list goes on.  Anything can affect the neurotransmitters.  Some people can use ibuprophen or acetaminophen.  There are exceptions for only a few medicines (such as lamotrigine and "the Prozac bridge.") which might be used in special circumstances.

4.  This is one is big: avoid antibiotics if you can especially those with "flox" in the name.  Cipro is a "flox" antibiotic.  They affect brain chemistry.  All antibiotics affect the gut flora which is disturbed by ADs, and we hope will return to normal after we stop using them. All changes to the gut can affect brain chemistry.  However, the "flox" antibiotics are reported on SA to be the most problematic.

5.  Try to eat organic food to avoid what might be in the food that would cause problems.  Some people avoid wheat and gluten and all carbs.  I've thought about doing that.  At the moment it's too hard for me, but it makes sense.  I avoid wheat that is not organic, and I eat less of it.  Also, you might find that eating 6 small meals is better for you.

6. You can type " survivingantidepressants.org magnesium" into Google or any search engine to get a list of possible topics on SA.  (SA's search engine apparently doesn't work as well.). You can search any topic this way, such as "survivingantidepressants.org bruxism."

7. If you try magnesium use only a little at first, and up the dose after seeing how it affects you.  So, try it for a week before you raise the dose.  I use "Calm" which is magnesium citrate.  My Epsom salts are magnesium sulfate.  If one type of magnesium bothers you, there might be another that doesn't.  Don't try fish oil at the same time as magnesium, but wait until you have a chance to see how one or the other affects you first.

8. Learn calming techniques such as those put forth by Claire Weekes.  Cognitive Behavioral therapy is good to help avoid emotional spirals, too.

9. Let yourself rest.

10.  Take it one day or even one hour at a time.

Thanks @Gridley

I'll get better.  This is rough.  I guess this happens.  The 12 month or 18 month wave?  I'm trying to document here, but I don't know what to say.  I took an Epsom salts bath.  I ate well, but little today.  I keep thinking there must be something I can do to alleviate this pain in my neck and shoulders.  It's causing despair.  At night, I am super tense, and I wake up in pain over and over again.  The anxiety isn't too great, but I'm not feeling good about that.  I guess I'm not getting enough rest.  The one night I slept without the pain was a relief, but . . . I don't know.  I'm trying to hold back the fear.

We’re in this together, @Rosetta... of course. And thanks for the SA recap list... I am so desperate for any supplement to take this pain away but that was a good reminder that it’s not good for the CNS. I just got acupuncture and we are stepping it up to 2x/week until I stabilize a little.

  • Prozac | late 2004-mid-2005 | CT WD in a couple months, mostly emotional
  • Sertraline 50-100mg | 11/2011-3/2014, 10/2014-3/2017
  • Sertraline fast taper March 2017, 4 weeks, OFF sertraline April 1, 2017
  • Quit alcohol May 20, 2017
  • Lifestyle changes: AA, kundalini yoga

Oh Rosetta.  I wish I could stop the world for you.

I finally read a bit further back on your thread,

and there was a post there that really resonated with me too.

About missing out on things you feel you should be doing with your child.

About not giving them an example to follow, or showing them a poor one.

I have so thought all those things too.

Stop the world, I want to get off.

Please, let me just feel better, so I can be a Mom.

A wife.

A friend.

Or just... me.

This is not the me I remember.

This is not the me that I want to be.

The symptoms get better.

They get worse?

Will I always be like this?

Have I mentioned yet (a time, or two, or a few...)

how much I admire you.

That you absolutely inpsire me with how encouraging you can be,

in spite of how much you yourself are struggling.

I know, you are probably telling these things to yourself,

reminding yourself to believe them,

but at the same time, you are such an encouragement to the rest of us.

That list you wrote, was really helpful.

I only hope that I am half the encouragement and inspiration to you,

that you are to me.

I am sitting here now,

And my lip is tingling,

and my knee hurts again,

totally with you on the whole shoulder/neck pain being an issue.

And I'm trying not to panic about the things I have to get done yet today.

Or about how I feel.

I so wish that those windows didn't have to be followed by waves again.

Here's hoping we both have a better day coming.

A better hour.  A better minute.

A better week.

Who knows?

We can only trudge on.

And keep hoping.

Doing out best today.

One food in front of the other.

Thinking of you, Rosetta.

Waterfall.

You've got lots of good advice to everyone and to yourself here, Rosetta. Honest but encouraging words. I believe you have great strength and will get through this.

I relate to feeling good enough to be down -- surviving the worst wave just to have time to think and be upset by the state of things. It's good to recognize that there's even some healing in the ability to be reflective.

Hope you have an easier night.

Thanks for compiling this list of advice and wisdom. I'm praying you have a good night of sleep and continue to heal.

Waking in the night -- anxious and stressed about the state of my house.  Wanting to throw things away, but I have no energy.  I feel weak when I try to walk, and making decisions is much too difficult.  It's an overwhelming task here.  I hope to be able to break it down when my cog fog gets better.  The intersection of anxiety and difficulty making decisions/organizing is very difficult.

Cortisol awakening this morning -- only one.

Took ok daughter to school; went with husband on errands.

Crying this morning.  I'm so exhausted, and I want to be normal, and feel safe.

I got some sunlight, and I rested for a couple of hours.  Time to pick up my daughter from school.

There will come a time when you will be able to accomplish everything you want to; for now you are doing so much caring for your daughter during withdrawal - this is a monumental task in and of itself, Rosetta.  Sending you big hugs - WR.

-1/06 - 3/07 Cymbalta. Fast taper (essentially CT); withdrawal symptoms after 4 mos (didn't realize was WD)

-10/07: 100 mg Zoloft; 1 mg Klonopin - tapered off Klonopin after 4 mos. Several unsuccessful slow tapers of Zoloft; went up and down in dose a lot

-Spring 2013 back on 1 mg Klonopin to counter WD symptoms; switched over 5-6 mos from Zoloft to 35 mg citalopram
-Two attempts at slow tapering citalopram, always increased dose due to WD; also increased Klonopin to 1.25 mg in 2014, then to 1.5 mg in 2015

-8/17-9/17: After holding one year at 20 mg, feeling withdrawal symptoms due to stress - slowly increased to 25 mg. No change in symptoms after 6 months (? tolerance ?)  - decided to start citalopram taper February 2018 (still on Klonopin 1.5 mg).

Supplements: fish oil; magnesium; vitamin D3; curcumin

Citalopram taper:  2/2018 - 12/2019: 25 mg - 11.03 mg I 2020: 10.89 mg - 7.9 mg I 2021: 7.8 mg - 5.26 mg I 2022: 5.2 mg - 3.36 mg I 2023: 3.3 mg - 1.47 mg 2024: 1/5/24: 1.44 mg; 1/19/24: 1.40 mg; 1/26/24: 1.37 mg; 2/2/24: 1.34 mg; 2/9/24: 1.31 mg; 2/23/24: 1.28 mg; 3/1/24: 1.25 mg; 3/8/24: 1.22 mg; 3/15/24: 1.19 mg

@DaveB My last clear window was March 24-25.  I had a few dirty Windows: April 1, April 4, and a dirtier window Sat, April 8th.

Yesterday, my daughter had dress rehearsal for the talent show.  She forgot her song, froze and couldn't perform.  I don't remember her song.  She made it up herself -- words, tune, everything and wouldn't sing it when we wanted to record it just in case this happened.  So, consequences.  It's hard to see her face them.  Now, we have to figure out how to salvage the song.

Venting:

I waited 2 1/2 hours for her to perform.  It was better than being at home I guess.  At home, I can't rest.  I'm on edge.  At the school I wasn't resting, but I was distracted by the truly awful, awful, awful performances of the kids!!  It is so painful to watch kids try to sing if they aren't able to.  It's even more painful to watch 8, 9 and 10 year old girls sing pop songs about love and heartbreak.  Ugh!!  Then, there are the rappers, and the lyrics by the rappers!  Double ugh!  They have to be clean lyrics, but they are still very unnerving when the kids are so young.  The moms trying to manage 40 different acts were so grumpy and unpleasant.  I'm sure my neuro emotions made it worse.  A 6 year old can't sit for 2 1/2 hours waiting to perform.  Her snack didn't last that long.

Hard night -- pain in right eye, neck -- muscle tension

Short stints of insomnia

Cortisol awakening early this morning -- twice

Took daughter to school

No appetite - cereal for breakfast

Dystonia, pain in right side of head, eye and neck.

(At least I'm not crying.)

That made me smile.  Excruciating is a good word for that.  Thanks for making the rounds and giving a little of yourself to us.

Day 18

Had some relief from the emotional stuff today.  Feeling RLS tonight.

Woke with anxiety, but it disappeared quickly.

Felt more steady for brief moments today.

Had an appetite today.

Thr RLS is making me nervous as if waiting for the second shoe to drop.

Took my daughter to school, picked her up and went to gymnastics and dinner.

So glad you got a break from the emotional stuff - yay!! :)
