Rosetta: cold switch May 2011 & too fast taper Feb 2017

Hi Rosetta - I am really sorry you feel like you are headed into a wave.  This process is so very wearing....that actually is an understatement.  It is amazing, however, that you were able to handle the function at your daughter's school today and not get too overstimulated....that sounds like it would be difficult for someone not in withdrawal!  I am scared too...you are not alone, my friend.  Thinking about you - WR. 💖

-1/06 - 3/07 Cymbalta. Fast taper (essentially CT); withdrawal symptoms after 4 mos (didn't realize was WD)

-10/07: 100 mg Zoloft; 1 mg Klonopin - tapered off Klonopin after 4 mos. Several unsuccessful slow tapers of Zoloft; went up and down in dose a lot

-Spring 2013 back on 1 mg Klonopin to counter WD symptoms; switched over 5-6 mos from Zoloft to 35 mg citalopram
-Two attempts at slow tapering citalopram, always increased dose due to WD; also increased Klonopin to 1.25 mg in 2014, then to 1.5 mg in 2015

-8/17-9/17: After holding one year at 20 mg, feeling withdrawal symptoms due to stress - slowly increased to 25 mg. No change in symptoms after 6 months (? tolerance ?)  - decided to start citalopram taper February 2018 (still on Klonopin 1.5 mg).

Supplements: fish oil; magnesium; vitamin D3; curcumin

Citalopram taper:  2/2018 - 12/2019: 25 mg - 11.03 mg I 2020: 10.89 mg - 7.9 mg I 2021: 7.8 mg - 5.26 mg I 2022: 5.2 mg - 3.36 mg I 2023: 3.3 mg - 1.47 mg 2024: 1/5/24: 1.44 mg; 1/19/24: 1.40 mg; 1/26/24: 1.37 mg; 2/2/24: 1.34 mg; 2/9/24: 1.31 mg; 2/23/24: 1.28 mg; 3/1/24: 1.25 mg; 3/8/24: 1.22 mg; 3/15/24: 1.19 mg

Thinking about you Rosetta...seems the waves aren't what they used to be...I dont want to jump the gun but inspite of feeling that you managed 150 kids!😳

Whoa!  I can hardly be around a few!

And thinking about the walks and wanting to do things...the waves aren't crushing you as they did before it seems as they approach inspite of your fear.

I just think you are healing and healing!  I hope this is a small wave if it comes at all.  Love and hugs my dear friend!💜

Thank you, @SkyStreamer, for your kind note.  I like to check out relaxation videos.  I hope you are doing ok.

@Rabe @Carmie @wantrelief Thanks for caring.  I feel really tired and worn down.  Today hasn't been terrible, and Rabe is right.  This is a milder wave except at certain parts of the day it's worse.  Bad anxiety this morning, feeling very "totaled" tonight as if I've been through the wringer and I haven't.  I can't ignore the house or feel hopeful about the future very easily.  I know, intellectually, that I'll get through this and get well, but I can't "feel" it.  It's purely some failure of my body to operate properly, I think. Maybe this is that flu like feeling people mention having?

At the same time I'm noticing an ability to distinguish between how I feel about my situation and what I believe about it.  That's pretty significant -- the root of depression is an inability to distinguish feelings from beliefs, right?  So, there a little kernel of truth and hope!

I went back to to school again today so that my daughter could give us a tour of the ancestor fair.  So many kids all making noise.  I couldn't wait to get out of there.  Tomorrow is art day.  I don't have to teach -- only help the other teacher.  So, off to bed.  I hope it's a good night, and I don't get worse.

Today is Saturday.  Friday morning was very, very difficult.  I was very worried through the night Thursday night, and I kept waking up feeling as if I had lost something precious.  In the morning, I was so anxious that I did not help get my daughter ready for for school.  I knew I would lose it if I did.  I didn't want to yell at her.  She reacts to my anxiety and everything gets worse not better.  So, I stayed in bed and let my husband handle the whole situation.  By 10:00 I was able to go to the school and help with art with no problem!!  It's truly bizarre the way this syndrome affects me.

This morning, I woke up with very little anxiety comparitively.  I slept better with less sadness and worry.  Nothing went the way I hope it would today.  I wanted to go on my first overnight trip since WD started, but my husband developed a bad headache.  So, we never left.  I did a couple of loads of laundry.  If I feel all right in the morning we will go to the museum we intended to visit after our stay overnight.  It's about 2 hours away.

We have been in the house all day.  Not good for me overall, but I haven't been anxious.  I've been trying to figure out a way to use trains to go where we want to go, but it's too difficult.  We will drive.  Hopefully tomorrow will work out.  We are supposed to have lunch with someone over there, and I hate to disappoint.

Yes, we made it to the museum.  I really enjoyed it.  I'm able to enjoy experiences again!  Yea!  There was some pretty strong  muscle tension/dystonia while I was in the car on the way there.  I've had that every couple of days for a few hours.  Every morning I wake up very anxious, but it does go away.  My body is working better, gastrointestinal system seems to be operating better, ringing in my ears ocassionally, irritability off and on, very unpredictable moods, what else?  Confusion, feeling unable to sort things out, clutter bothering me.  All of this except the anxiety has been mild and not too much of a problem in living my life the past 2-3 days.

That is so inspirational, @Rosetta. To be able to enjoy a museum is the best! I have had both on and off experiences and definitely prefer the 'on' ones 😏

Im sorry these have returned.  The uplifting thing is that in the not too distant past when you had a bad day the poset was much longer as to all the physical, emotional and mental things that were going on...that list seems to have gotten shorter as time has gone on.

I am so sorry try are struggling and wanted you to know that I think about you daily my dear friend and hold you in my heart.  You continue to do so much i spite of all that you deal with and that is an on going inspiration as is your insight and knowledge of this whole process that you so willingly share.  You are a gift!!

Today is Thursday.  I'm doing ok.  The last couple of days I have had poor sleep.  Wednesday morning, my daughter woke up at 5:00, and she kept waking me up over and over.  The next morning (this morning) I woke up at 1:00 am, agsin at 4:00 to a bad dream, and then the cat woke me at 5:00 and I never got back to sleep.  I had pretty annoying dystonia during the nights and all day yesterday.  Other than that I'm feeling crummy, but not terrible.

An amazing thing happened today.  We saw a 180 degree double rainbow!!  It was really cool.  It lasted for over half an hour.  We considered staying home from gymnastics today because it was raining, and driving in the rain here is very dangerous.  Generally, people don't slow down or take extra care, and it rains so infrequently that most drivers don't know how to cope.  But we took the risk and what a payoff.  My daughter was so thrilled.

Hi Rosetta,

Glad you had a not too bad day. How spectacular to see a double rainbow, that would have definitely brightened up one’s day. Nature is amazing!🌈🌈 Did you take a photo? I would have been out there snapping away, sending hugs🤗

Thanks everyone.  That was an unexpected treat to see the rainbow.  We are lucky.

I have a head cold.  This explains the fact that for three nights I have been clenching my jaw and waking up with a headache over and over.  I've been trying to think of it as a wave, and I'm sure it's more uncomfortable because of WD, but it's the typical head cold misery.  I have to rest today.  I'm glad there's no art class today.  I just spilled tea all over my phone and started crying.

Thanks @Rabe @Carmie and @BB1979.

I am weathering this cold without any medicine.  I miss the days when NyQuil got me through quite easily.  That was back when it was alcohol and psuedophedrine.  Good times, ha ha.  I wouldn't use it now if they sold it, of course, because I might react to it, but this is no fun!  I think a hot shower is in order.  The pressure in my head is very uncomfortable, and I'm achey all over.

The good news is I'm not anxious!!  That's a relief.  I feel normal today if very bothered by the state of my house.

Thanks, Neroli and Rus.  Today, my head feels better.  What a relief.  Still feeling normal; still getting a break from bad anxiety.

I feel anxious because of something happening to someone I know.  The kind of thing that makes all my worries seem insignificant and silly.  Sometimes that perspective is important in all of this.  I'm getting well.  I'm going to be fine.  I'm very lucky for that.  We all are.  This debacle could have been worse for many of us.  It could have been something that was permanent.  I see that a lot of us go through a phase when we cannot see that it's not permanent.  Once that phase is over there is a strange feeling that takes its place.  Sort as if a dangerous storm has passed, and I am still in one piece.  That's how I feel.  There are rough times ahead, but I have survived, and it will get better from here.  Some illnesses are not like that.  So, I'm trying to remember to be grateful for what I do have instead of focused on what I have lost.

Rus, Rabe, DMV, thanks for stopping by.   I have been doing ok for the most part.  Some dystonia off and on, some irritability, a bit of insomnia for a while last night, a small cortisol spike upon awakening this morning (not too early), and Verizon's bad feelings about myself.

This morning I had a feeling of depression, frustration and after I volunteered at the school.  That feeling had nothing to do with my time at the school.  It seemed to be about the state of my house -- which is truly atrocious, btw, ugh.  I have not had a housecleaner in to work in many weeks.  The anxiety of her coming was too difficult.  Therefore, I wake up feeling much less stressed on Saturday mornings, but the dirt is starting to reach a point that may be about to outweigh the benefit that this hiatus has provided thus far.   The option of throwing everything into bins is looking better and better.

Maybe this is a good sign.  Maybe I'm getting closer to some sort of shift.  We shall see, I suppose.  When I'm not looking at the mess I sometimes have a feeling that "I can do this!"  "I'm ready to tackle it." or "I feel clearheaded enough to organize." but when I actually look at the mess I lose all those feelings.  They evaporate.  And the dust is piling up.

I do think this window has lasted quite a while compared to my past windows.  My husband commented on that, too.  Also, he says that my personality, the personality he has known as mine from 18 years ago, is frequently shining through.  I can feel that, too.  I'm better able to handle stress and setbacks most of the time.  Then, after we got a coffee, we sat down and cried together over our attempts to plan a trip this month (they are very frustrating, and neither one of us feel the energy to make it happen and yet we can't stand the thought of a 4 day weekend here at home.)

I'm feeling another wave coming on, but I'm hoping it's not really going to happen until after the 25th.  I'm hoping it's just a dip, and it won't amount to anything yet.   Just the fact that I can feel that hope is proof of improvement.

Hello Rosetta

I hope it's just a dip too - you sound as though things are improving somewhat for you and there are signs that you are coming more back into yourself.

I do hope you have an easier time if there is a dip - you do so well to deal with what you have been doing and keeping as active as possible.

The man comes to do my vines tomorrow - it's my work at home day, so I may have to battle through chain saw sounds!

Wishing you all the best

Thank you, Neroli,

Its a wave, but I'm soldiering through.

Confusion

Dystonia -- painful at times

Anxiety

Crying

Diarrhea

Anxiety was worse yesterday morning than this morning.  I think I might be having some hormone issues.  Diarrhea yesterday.  No Mother Nature for months.  Crying again today while talking with my husband about taking this trip.

Took walks both today and yesterday.

Then, a stressful event in the afternoon.  Our payment for our daughter's gymnastics wasn't processed correctly.  I'm still feeling sick from the uptick in adrenaline caused by that 1/2 hour of uncertainty.  We were told she had lost her place in class for the next 3-4 months, and this is her only activity with other kids outside of school.

Just trying to get through each day and having hour by hour symptoms.  Sometimes, I forget that I'm in this condition for a few minutes at a time.  My outsized reaction to threats is always sure to remind me.

Oh Rosetta, I am so sorry you are in a wave.  I hope everything got sorted with your daughter's gymnastics payment.  Hang in there, my friend.  Sending lots of hugs, WR.

Last night, I felt a great deal of muscle tension and vibration in my legs and arms -- something I associate with Akathisia.  My mind was not AS affected as usual, however.  I was able to separate out the physical feeling from the emotional feeling. It was odd.  I wonder how they intersect.

Thank you @wantrelief and @Kristine. It's ok.  My daughter passed a test and was advanced to the next level (which had plenty of space) on the same day we were alerted that the desk employee did not process our payment.  We are lucky she passed the test.  I need her to have this activity as much as she needs it.

Today was art day.  It was 2 hours today instead of one.  I felt very depleted after art.  I had had no breakfast.  I had had no appetite.  But I made it through and after I ate lunch I felt much better.

Dystonia or muscle tension is intermittent and seems to be concomitant with reading just as yesterday.

Well . . . Let's see . . . sleep has been better lately.  Last night it was not bad.  I woke up early feeling very anxious and fearful.  I was able to fall back asleep, and woke up again feeling anxious and fearful.  Fell asleep again as I was able to sleep late.  Eventually, I woke feeling ok.

I have felt confused today and slightly overwhelmed.  I made myself go out.  I have been trying to get ready for my trip which means facing closets of stuff.  I did enter one closet, and I found some gloves, a scarf and some clothes I will need.  It is going to be very cold there.  I may need to buy some things I can't find.

This wave isn't too bad.  Today was more productive than I expected.  Dystonia type symptoms have not been much of a problem today.  Wish me luck that I can pull the packing for this trip together before the wave intensifies and sidelines me.  Sometimes the waves seem to undulate.  I think my hormones cause that to happen.

SO thinking about you Rosetta.  Hope you were able to pack and get going and that things are going well.  Perhaps being away for awhile might actually bring some relief as I know sometimes being at home is hard with all that challenges you there.  Take care Rosetta!!  Love and hugs!!💜

Thank you, dear, dear @Rabe.  I appreciate your posts so much.

The morning anxiety is pretty bad right now.  Yesterday's and today's wake-ups were quite tough.  Sleep is ok.  I'm quite stressed about the trip.  When I do wake in the night I worry.  Muscle tension is intermittent, but very annoying.  It happened in the middle of the night -- very intense seizing up of the hip and calf.   Not quite pain, but close.  Cramping toes in right foot.  Then, today, cramping toes in left foot.

I went for a walk today.

Last night was very hard in the evening.  Quite anxious.  My daughter was hard to get to bed, and I became more and more anxious as the minutes wore on.  It took about an hour and half.  She picks up on my anxiety.  She didn't get enough exercise this weekend either.  For me, I think I'm having fluctuating hormones.

I keep telling myself that each wave is followed by a lot of improvement.  Just get through it!!
