Rabe: how to taper and adjust Viibryd while on Clonazepam

Recommended Posts

Rabe

The doctor was very very nice.....wonders why I am going off these medications, especially the Viibryd since it addresses both anxiety and depression...it helps the brain balance...or something like that is what he said.  It is nice just to have a PCP that is nice.  We will see.

I have had a terrible day...one of worst in long time.  I don't have all names but tired yet horrible anxiety, heart off, cold, pacing, muscles tight, crying, agitated, headache that finally passed, and on it goes.  It just changes so quickly to the awful.  I did not feel great when I got up.  I was irritated even last night and parenting myself unkindly.  But I had a nice bath and to bed.  Woke often and had set the alarm and it went off early.  At least I did eat and finally at about 715 things have settled down a bit.

I just feel so tired....not hopeful...very sad...I am tired of being here alone with no one here for support.  Today is one of those days I don't care to do this anymore.

I would rather have stayed on the meds and lived a fairly decent life for another 5 to 10 years than live them like this.

Even if and when this passes it makes me not want to do anything because I have no idea what the next second will bring.  Im too unpredictable...

Well, enough of that.

Thank you @wantrelief @Sheera and @Rosetta...I am grateful you stopped.  As always it means a great deal.  Hope things are going well in your corner of the world.  Love and hugs. 💜

Hi Rabe,

Yes, seeing a new doctor is scary, but just remember you are the one in control. All you really need from the doctors is the script.

Sending you a million hugs and wanted to thank you for being encouraging to members on here🤗🤗🤗🤗

Hello Rabe

It is very wearing and unpredictable  - I'm sorry you had such a bad day - it's tough.  We are all with you on that one and we take a lot of comfort when you pop into our threads and offer your wonderful support.

I want to thank you for popping in yesterday to celebrate the good day I had - I appreciate it so much.  I'm also glad I had something up-beat to write for once!!!!!

Hey, we're here.  I know it's hard being on your own - I'm in that too.  But sometimes I am also grateful that I don't have to maintain a relationship with all this crap going on.

Glad your Dr is nice.  Bit misguided on the brain balance thing, though, the chemical imbalance theory was debunked years ago but some docs. still think that way - it was a marketing myth.  As long as you get what you need and it's a good relationship, that's what matters.

love and best wishes

The doctor I saw was a new PCP...very nice....but asked me why am I doing this at my age???  I should be enjoying my grandchildren!  I left feeling so sad....and I feel lost.  I don't know where I am going, what path, why I am going, if I will get there....should I up dose to 10mg of the Viibryd and just stay on it and tackle the CLonazepam?  Or tackle neither?  I have no idea.  So many people coming and going and saying one thing or another.  IDK.  I just don't know.

Even though I have bad bad days it is better than was I think?  I would like to be more stable and stay that way for a while...but maybe I am dreaming on that being possible.  And being on these compounded capsules is so crazy and so expensive!!  I think...I worked all these years for this???Hmm🙄

My daughter asks me how I am .... and I have learned to say little ... but even with very little there is always something wrong it seems...how I say it, what I say, if I say a word or two then thats not right.  She said she has to back up for her...because she gives me advice and ti don't take it anyway and she cant watch this anymore.  Well, I would like to see a different psychiatrist but when she is an hour away I just cannot be certain on that and I don't like making appts and then having to cancel.  But there are no others around where I am...I asked the PCP.  So I am stuck with the one I have who she feels is not smart on all this...true...but what one is?

I guess I will talk to him in a couple weeks and really get down to the nitty gritty and see what he says.

I would like to get the Clonazepam more stable somehow...and IDK what to do with the Viibryd.  My family threatened not to talk to or see me if I did not go along with the treatment center advice, but when things go not well then no one is there.  Except that my daughter thinks I should stay on it.  How can I expect to suddenly be ok after having the panic attacks for so long before the C.

I start to doubt everything including myself.

Oh well....its nice to write it down and get it out so to speak.

Blessing, love and thoughts to everyone! 💜

Hmm, well this doctor will let you stay at 9.0 Mg if you feel that's best?  That's good news.  Now, you can decide in a few weeks whether you will go to 8.75 or stay at 9.0, right?

I see no benefit from going up to 10 mg..  Going up can destabilize you, too.  This PCP doesn't know that.  The PCP is not aware of the liver issue?  I think that's important.

In my opinion, you need to taper the V eventually.  The question of why you are doing this is not really useful unless all the lies are true -- that there is no harm from staying on the drugs, that there is no such thing as protracted WD, that reducing very slowly is not necessary.  If all those things are beliefs of this PCP then it would make sense to just stay on.  However, you are suffering.  You are not simply living with the risk of taking the drugs, but otherwise doing fine.  I'm glad the PCP thinks you should stay on, however, because that means you can control when you reduce.  You need to feel that you are making the decision and it's the right decision not that you are being forced to taper.

Maybe when you get the Viibryd out of the equation asking whether to taper the C will be a valid question.  That's for the future.  Ideally, you would taper that, too, but you can worry about that when the time comes.  I hope that can be your decision, as well.  I'm disapponted that you were rapidly tapered off the C in the first place.  I'm disappointed that you were put on V, and again rapidly tapered from C, but that can't be changed.  Now, you have to work with with the consequences. Your family can't understand.

I hope your daughter understands how wrong she was and that she won't make that threat again.  I'm so sad that she did that.  I'm sure she is, too.

No...he's a PCP not Psych and they wont take over psych meds unfortunately.  No, the psych doctor has me going to 8.75 and the pharmacy called and I sent more tablets and will do that soon tho not wanting to as my stomach is still so up and down.  But drop is less than 3% so Im praying it goes ok.  Thing is dropping it affects the CLonazepam for whatever reason and then its a double whammy.  I feel I am trying to survive now even tho have not dropped since June!!

Thank you for this Rosetta....I wondered about going up.  By liver issue do you mean the enzymes the meds share or something else?  Spacey today..sorry.

You always make so much sense...bless you!  Its like a window that was hazy and dirty but is now clean and clear.  You are right...will need to get off it sometime.  Just feel the 3% might even be too much, that the compounding can be off by such a large amount, that it is all crazy.  Yet, I use the scale to keep practicing and it never weighs the same either.  So seems there is nothing really stable except a tablet.  I am better understanding the crossover now....but was in a wave at the time and really overwhelmed.  So I AM being forced to taper...he feels I am 'stuck' so he's helping me out by dropping the rx to 8.75.  Just have to hope the compounding is better and all.  Its just that I have been more stable...more good days over all(I think?)...and that has been a nice thing.

I don't know whether to get 30 capsules of the 8.75 or 60?  Or get 30 and if things go well drop again after they are gone?  Do you have any thoughts on that Rosetta?

I know I need to taper at some point...you are right.  if I try the 8.75 and it is still too much than will just have to go even slower.  The doctor just wants me off them yesterday and Im not sure why..think it it the therapist and he have decided this...that I will magically be better once these meds are gone.  Guess I ought to be grateful they are not 'pulling the bandaid off' as the therapist said.

Yes...I feel without the Viibryd things would be way less overwhelming...tho I know the C will not be easy either.  For this psych doctor to say Viibryd is a very hard drug to get off was scary to me as well as he does not give opinions like that usually.  You are right again...what is done cannot be changed tho I feel so helpless, angry, afraid and often hopeless as a result.  I know those are the days I want to just quit...because it seems easier and less scary than continuing to live like this.

That will never happen, Rosetta.  She is her fathers child.  All of my children expect me to be there for them and be ok....as you said they cant understand.  I have tried talking to her and my son about the feelings I have with the med in treatment...and their going along with it and how it felt...but it is not well accepted. They say they didnt know...but my son has said he would never go on any meds...and i said then why would you (knowing the system I have because he has it too) think I should?

Oh well...all water over the damn...neuro emotions keep it all going.

Yes if I can get off ONE of the meds it would be something....tho the psych doctor said we can go back and forth. Ugh!  I try to be grateful that I am down to where I am and not looking at 40mg or 20mg and nearly 5mg.  At least I didnt take the 40mg V!!!  I will make a final decision Monday.  Going to cancel with the doctor next Wed cause haven't started the taper so is nothing to talk about I guess...and can save the money.  I don't want to go in and have him be upset.  Or I guess I could go in and tell him how I am feeling and see what he says.  IDK.

Anyway...thank you so so much Rosetta for your thoughts and advice.  I cannot tell you how grateful I am!!!  I will read your thread and see how things are going for you.  Hopefully better!! Love and hugs, Rosetta.  You do help me get past the emotions to the core of things...again, bless you!!Sorry this was way too long.. 💜💜

 Prepare the scale:

Place the gram scale on a hard, flat, and level surface with plenty of room to prepare your dose.

Press the TARE button to zero it out.

Recalibrate the scale. Please see this video for more information, starting at around 3:30 minutes:

Smart Weigh GEM20 Digital Jewelry Scale Review

Your scale may be a bit different than in this video, so please have a read of the owner's manual for your scale for how to recalibrate.

Add the tray to the gram scale.

Wait 5 - 10 seconds to let it settle on the scale.

Hit the TARE button again to zero it out.
********************************************************************************

Here is more information that will help keep your scale from jumping.

More tips on using the inexpensive electronic digital scale JoLe mentioned above, the Gemini-20 Portable Milligram Scale -- these from the comments on Amazon:

1) Let the scale stabilize on a hard, flat and level surface.
2) Make sure the sample tray is properly seated inside the circular indent of the scale's metal measuring platform. Take care that the sample tray (as provided) does not touch the body of the scale, grossly throwing off the measurement.
3) Tap the table that the scale is on to help everything settle.
4) Calibrate as described in the manual.
5) Place and remove materials to be weighed consistently and carefully - don't drop them. Even the slightest impact can throw off the measurement.
6) Wait for ten seconds or so for the sample to settle.
7) For minuscule samples, use the ten gram weight in addition to the sample to put the scale in the middle of its operating range. With a little care, one will get closer to the performance of a lab-grade milligram scale than anything else for this price.

Please see number 7 above, highlighted in blue. Are you using the ten gram weight? You may want to try that. The additional weight will make your scale less jumpy.

Please calibrate your scale and use the ten gram weight (if you aren't already doing so).  Make sure you aren't near an open window or near a fan or anything that could cause movement or vibrations. Let's see if that works first.

You can, of course, switch to liquid, but if this will solve your problem, you won't have to subject your already sensitive nervous system to another change.

Hello Rabe

Popping in to say hello.  I've just said to Carmie that now I'm back at work, I don't have the time to visit the site so much.  I also wanted to thank you, too, for being around during xmas/new year and being able to talk to you, it helped a lot.

Rosetta has done a great job answering your questions - I'm with her when she says you're getting off these drugs because they make you ill (I think I've read you saying that on your thread somewhere), so it's Hobson's choice in a way - no good being on them (and the long-term risks come into play as well) and not the easiest (putting it very mildly) to get off.  You're doing the best thing you can, and doing your very best while doing it.

Sounds like there's fiddle-faddling going on with the dosages still, psych, new PCP, scales, the 3% drop - I'm not as good as Rosetta at making sense of it, so I hope you're doing ok and the drop goes well.

Best wishes across the pond

@neroli Oh Neroli...so good to hear from you!  Happy to hear you have been busy with work...that a good thing.  I hope things are going ok there and that your legs are doing ok.

Thank YOU for the holiday chats!  They really were lovely Neroli.   I feel so grateful that our voices reach waaaay across the pond to each other as well...such a blessing!

Rosetta has been a huge help....knowledge is huge as is her common sense, ability to put things in a way that sinks in, and her general support.  It has helped a lot.

I am ok with things.  I wanted to get through the holidays Neroli, as well as my daughters birthday...which was today.  I went over and we shopped together which we have not done since all this started.  I know it meant a great deal to her and it did to me as well...it was so so special and a true gift that I prayed so hard for.  I feel so grateful.  I did ok until about 4 and then the anxiety really spiked and I came back...but by then we were done so it was fine.

I am finding a relationship between carb/sugar intake and this anxiety so am trying to space the coconut water and milk differently.  I didnt realize coconut water has so many carbs!

But now that xmas, New Years and birthdays are past I feel ok with dropping though my daughter thinks it is stupid not to just stay on these low doses for the rest of my life.  Why upset my system so much, she says, that i cant eat or function?  Points well taken...it is a hard decision to make.

But the 8.75mg capsules will be coming.  The psych dr will not be happy I haven't started yet, but thats ok.  I wouldn't trade the xmas I had with my children and grandchildren or today with my daughter on her birthday for anything.  Plus I have been able to eat more foods which has been a fun thing!!  Yay!

Hope you a good day tomorrow Neroli!  My thoughts drift your way across the pond daily!  Take care!  💜

Hello Rabe

I've just looked up what Viibryd is (I'd never heard of it before) and see it is an SSRI.  I've also looked up Premarin, which is an HRT drug, it says.  Glad I understand them a bit more now.  So, the psych. is taking you down to 8.75mg Viibryd - hope that goes ok for you.  Re-checking your signature, I see you have reduced the Viibryd substantially over the past two years.  Well done you.  It's a shame the Psych. doesn't seem to be open to you controlling the amount you reduce by.  It would be nice if you could get to hold for as long as you need (or want) to stabilise a bit.

It is a hard decision to make - one that I think I will be faced with in a few years (or maybe sooner) when I get down to low doses (she said confidently!).  Oh, Rabe, it's so hard being in the land of the unknown.  I had thought you were coming off them because they make you feel ill but maybe I have mis-read, or missed, your posts and it's the reductions that make you feel ill.

I can and do wish you the best with this latest reduction.

Fantastic that you got to go over for your daughter's birthday and did some shopping - that was truly wonderful for you.  And as you say, now that the holidays and the birthday are over, you are more relaxed about making the next cut.

Read this next part in a whisper - I've been ok for the past couple or three days.  Felt brighter and not so much anxiety.  Legs are still there but I wonder if I detect some slight loosening up.

I hsd to whisper that bit, so I don't jinx it :) :)

I'll be interested to see how you get on over the coming days and weeks.

Yep, great that we can communicate across the pond.

Hi Neroli!  I think what happens is when I taper then I start reacting to everything..and that causes the problems as I react to the meds too along with food etc.  I did have a start up reaction to the Viibryd but that passed.  My daughter just feels having had the panic disorder my whole life it is crazy to get off everything...IDK.

I saw my psych doctor today and he was writing on someone elses chart while I was talking/answering his question.  When I asked him what he was doing he put it on the floor.  He said that the reason for getting off both meds and going from there is that if he adds something else (yikes) one wouldn't know what was causing what...I said well we dont know that now either.  He didnt say anything.  He again asked me which drop I feel is a bigger problem.  I said well neither were causing issues until I had the rapid taper last year...nothing has been the same since.  I have thought about it a lot since, and I feel the CLonazpam is a bigger issue...but who knows.  Seems to depend upon the day.

Then got a late response from a PCP as I wanted to know what to do when I doubled up on the Premarin a last weekend by mistake and she said to just taper that!!

I went back to the normal dose and things seem to have settled down.  Good grief!

I was SO happy to get to go shopping with my daughter...and she was so grateful!  We haven't done that for years.  SO it was very special.  About 4 were trying to return some baby things from Christmas and find exact price replacements which was way overwhelming...at about 4 I got panicy and left...but we had had the day so it was ok.  Just very grateful.

If I had it to do over I would have stayed on the 10mg of the Viibryd and the Clonazepam for a while.  Oh well.  Will be starting a taper soon.

Hi Rabe I was thinking of you. I wouldn't be too concerned about coming off these drugs and staying off them. I think that they make us worse.

The majority of doctors will try to have you taper off and then they'll add another drug. Mine tried to add drugs while I'm on them and then wanted me to fast taper or cold turkey.

It seems like for most of us are conditions prior to the medications we're nothing like what happened to us while we were on the drugs and coming off of them.

Stay strong I'm wishing you the best

Gosh thank you so much Rus for that!  I am just reacting to them...mainly the CLonazepam.  It just does not make me feel well at all some times and I get fearful of taking it...I dont feel that way about the Viibryd.

Wishing you the best as well Rus.  Take good care!💜

Such a brave woman you are - here's what you wrote on my thread:

"I am so trying to hang in there today. Not feeling well at all after the CLonazepam.  I am with you .... teary and crying and so so sad and scared about these meds.

Feeling lost and alone."

It's so brave to face all this.

Maybe that's what you do, then.  Slowly.  I know I'm going to have to do it slowly after this week's experience of a 0.25mg cut in Diazepam.  I know the "usual" way is to leave the benzo until last to taper as it is a kind of "brake" on the more activating drugs.  I was going to suggest a long hold on all of the drugs but you have that 0.25mg cut of Viibryd coming up so that's not an option.  I only say that because I'm considering a long hold if/when the Diaz cut settles down.  Just seems my system is very sensitive.  I don't know....

Hello dear Rabe

Just seen your post on my benzo thread.  You're there with me, I know.  And I with you.

You said:

"I can tell you that, for me, when I tapered the Clonazepam I would initially feel really quite good...and then after 1 to 2 weeks I really crashed!  You sooner perhaps because of the shorter half life?  In any case, for me it seems I dont get  symptoms right away (except feeling better)....dont know if thats a benzo thing or just us.ipko"

I'm not sure it's just us - I remember when I CT'd some years ago, after the acute WD, I felt great for about two weeks before the long-term damage symptoms began to emerge.  And I read on some site (it may have been Stuart Shipko, can't remember) that he had observed that phenomenon, too, feeling good for a while after quitting and then the storm beginning.

I hope you're feeling ok today.  I am a little more bright - not such a dreadful apathy, though I didn't go out for a walk this morning as I usually do (for one thing it was too hot but I also was feeling very heavy in the legs and too fatigued).

I have managed a tiny, tiny bit of vacuuming and swept up some leaves from the backyard (I was out there looking at about 5 Monarch chrysalis that are hanging off a pyrethrum plant - I grow swan plants so that the Monarchs come into the garden).  Now, these little jobs were very tiny but when we're in our lower ebbs, they are actually very positive hints that the symptoms may be easing.  Albeit the legs are still wobbly and I'm woozy.  So the next couple of days may see some improvement.

I also finished a picture I've been colouring in and pasted it onto some card, wrote a message of thanks to the woman who gave me the colouring book, and posted it in her mailbox (in the full heat of the afternoon I went out in the car!).  Small things again but......

The woman who gave me the book has CRPS from a fall a couple of years ago, she is in constant pain all down one side of her body and the painkillers (I think gabapentin) have worn off in the past few months, so she is being tried on different pain management meds. Of course, she is being taken through a cornucopia of meds.  She has been through the wringer and I know she has been in dark days a lot - I try to keep in mind what she is coping with (and others who are in deep suffering) as a reminder that there are many many people suffering, it is not my territory alone.  It doesn't make my situation any rosier, nor does it always hold much sway when I'm in a very low place - but at times it does help me to hang in for one more day.

I'm still on the same planet with you, Rabe, but I hope there have been some moments of ease for you today.

love
