Saw doctor yesterday for check up....labs came back with sodium borderline low not potassium, which I dealt with first last summer.  She had her nurse call to say to stay hydrated.  I did specifically ask how much Na and K to take in...got some pedialyte.  So, as was chugging coconut water yesterday thinking that was the issue it was not...its electrolytes in general seems....toss coin as to which.  Perhaps is why felt worse on other med...who knows.  THIS IS ALL CRAZY!!! ;)  But think is just part of all this.

HI Rabe ,bin table salt and get a good sea salt or pink Himalayan salt and season your meals ,these are packed full of nutrients and minerals .

Take care .

If you Google table salt ,it says there's not a big difference between that and sea salt ,but table salt is more processed ,go to a big supermarket and ask them for a pink Himalayan salt .

Take care

In Ireland telling someone to "bin" something means toss it in the trash.

wanted Alto and moderators to know, this is the result of my doctors visits this week:

"
Hi Becky,
Yes, it is possible to consume too much potassium. However, remember you excrete potassium slightly faster than average which is why we have had issues with low potassium in the past. Also, you have had frequent lab work that has shown that your potassium has been stable for the last several months with consuming as much as you normally do.  Your lab work from yesterday showed your potassium is 4.2 (which I am happy about), so I recommend continuing to eat and drink as you have been doing.
Thanks"

Hi Rabe,

Thats great that your lab results were good. Looks like you’re on the right track with your diet as regards potassium. Good advice given too about getting rid of table salt. Himalayan salt is so good for you, and it’s a pretty pink colour too😀.

We need all the nutrition we can get while going through withdrawals n most supplements aren’t an option as they affect us too much, so we have to get all our nutrition from food. That’s where we are supposed to get it from anyway. Too many people eat junk food these days n then take vitamins, doesn’t make any sense to me.

Wishing you all the best my fellow warrior 💚

Hi Rabe,

We are so sensitive to different things, aren’t we? We are all different too and what works for one person doesn’t work for another.  Also, one person has no trouble with certain things and others get such severe reactions. It’s all trial and error.

I saw on another thread that you had a rough day and woke up feeling odd but couldn’t describe it. I’m the same a lot of mornings and a lot of people on this site find the same thing. I couldn’t really describe it either, maybe one day I can put it into words.

Im still in a window, thanks for asking how I am. Been in bed a lot this weekend because of CFS but I’m in good spirits. It’s actually winter here, we don’t get much winter here, though it’s nippy today. I’ve got the heater on and I’m nice and cozy. I’ve been crocheting a little in bed, and binge watching Frasier.

Hope you end up having ing a few better mornings 💚

Hello Rabe - Thank you for your kind message on my thread.  I thought I'd pop over to see how you are doing?

-1/06 - 3/07 Cymbalta. Fast taper (essentially CT); withdrawal symptoms after 4 mos (didn't realize was WD)

-10/07: 100 mg Zoloft; 1 mg Klonopin - tapered off Klonopin after 4 mos. Several unsuccessful slow tapers of Zoloft; went up and down in dose a lot

-Spring 2013 back on 1 mg Klonopin to counter WD symptoms; switched over 5-6 mos from Zoloft to 35 mg citalopram
-Two attempts at slow tapering citalopram, always increased dose due to WD; also increased Klonopin to 1.25 mg in 2014, then to 1.5 mg in 2015

-8/17-9/17: After holding one year at 20 mg, feeling withdrawal symptoms due to stress - slowly increased to 25 mg. No change in symptoms after 6 months (? tolerance ?)  - decided to start citalopram taper February 2018 (still on Klonopin 1.5 mg).

Supplements: fish oil; magnesium; vitamin D3; curcumin

Citalopram taper:  2/2018 - 12/2019: 25 mg - 11.03 mg I 2020: 10.89 mg - 7.9 mg I 2021: 7.8 mg - 5.26 mg I 2022: 5.2 mg - 3.36 mg I 2023: 3.3 mg - 1.47 mg 2024: 1/5/24: 1.44 mg; 1/19/24: 1.40 mg; 1/26/24: 1.37 mg; 2/2/24: 1.34 mg; 2/9/24: 1.31 mg; 2/23/24: 1.28 mg; 3/1/24: 1.25 mg; 3/8/24: 1.22 mg; 3/15/24: 1.19 mg

Hey Rabe.  I know it's been rough for you lately too.

I just wanted to stop by and let you know that your

encouragement of others is appreciated.  And that

I was thinking of you, and hoping things improve

for us both.

Sleep well.

Maybe tomorrow will be a better day.

Anxiety since I was 5, and my Grandma died.  Depression since at least my early 20s.

Wellbutrin for unknown length of time in 2009  Guess: 6-9 months.  Cold Turkeyed in Dec 2009.

Citalopram 40mg end of 2014 until June 2017. Began within a few months after 4th child was born because I crashed.

Quit CT.  Had no major symptoms until Sept. Took Gaba from spring until near end of Nov 2017

Took St. John's Wort mixed with who knows what else from mid-summer to end of Sept..

Clonazepam 0.25 mg once a day since Sept. 18.  To stay sane.

Rough time since Sept. 18.  Tried to reinstate.  Repeatedly.  Failed.  Bad reaction.  Horrible cortisol spikes

I seem to react badly to anything I take right now.  Except Clonazepam.

End of December, forgot to take Clonazepam for a few days. Thought I could do without.

Appears I was wrong,  Jan. 1-2?   Trying to find the right way to deal with things.

Holding at 1/4 of 0.25mg pill morning and night.  Reinstated Jan. 5

Was on the other thread and SHep suggested coming here.  I found when started Viibryd felt as if tapered CLonazepam and now when tapering the Viibryd it feels the same...as if am tapering the CLonazepam as well.  Googled can tapering Viibryd affect Clonazepam again (did it long time ago) and found this:

'If you are taking Viibryd as well as an anti-anxiety medication (benzodiazepine), the anti-anxiety medication must be discontinued first. If you are only discontinuing the Viibryd the Viibryd must be reduced very slowly to prevent withdrawal side effects from the anti-anxiety drug. Viibryd slows the metabolism rate of anti-anxiety drugs and when the Viibryd is removed from the system the anti-anxiety medication will not take as long to metabolize and this creates a withdrawal effect from the anti-anxiety medication.'

Am wondering if anyone has any thoughts about this?  AM wondering if ought to be tapering the Clonazepam and not the Viibryd...at least the .2 at 6 as it gives me lots of problems...and when tapering I have problems with it and everything...

CYP3A SUBSTRATES

  • Interaction
    • CYP3A substrates may be affected by CYP3A inducers and inhibitors (see above)
    • If two CYP3A substrates are taken together, they may compete for the enzyme and the metabolism of one or both of the drugs may be affected
    • Sensitive substrates are drugs that are known to be significantly affected by CYP3A inhibitors and/or inducers

    • Example:
      • Drug A is metabolized by CYP3A. Drug B is metabolized by CYP3A.
      • When Drug A is taken with Drug B they may compete for the CYP3A enzyme
      • This competition may affect blood levels of either one or both of the drugs

  • CYP3A SENSITIVE SUBSTRATES

  • NOTE: These drugs are known to be significantly affected by CYP3A inhibitors/inducers
  • Both CLonazepam and Viibryd are under this category...not just substrates but sensitive ones, so more likely to be affected
  • by other substrates, and significantly so by inhibitors and inducers...I had found all this before, didnt think it significant but think it is given the tapering.

Am wondering if a person can get too much of foods with magnesium?  I drink a lot of coconut water and I find I get nervous as da goes on.  Have had none thus far today and am not nervous.  Could be coincidental but wondered re thoughts.

Also wondered re the Brass Monkey Slide Method for the Viibryd,if I should continue that, and how to do that?  Have dropped by .5 last two times but find that a bit harsh as it seems to affect the Clonazepam as well.

Was wondering what a lower drop in the slide method would look like?  Or if anyone has any other suggestions/thoughts?  Thank you!

Hi Rabe--  Yes it's possible to get too much magnesium  during the day and it will show an increase in symptoms instead of calming things down.  I would go easy on it for a while and see how things go.

Your taper of .5mgai (milligrams active ingredient) is roughly a 5% reduction.  Taken all at once it could produce symptoms that are fairly harsh for a while.  To do a 5% Brassmonkey Slide you would do a reduction of 1.5% a week for four weeks and then an additional hold for two weeks.  this would give a total reduction of 5% every six weeks.  It should also greatly reduce the symptoms from each reduction.  Also when you get below 10mgai taking a straight milligram reduction will increase the percentage of each reduction significantly as you go down.  From here on out it would be much better to work with a percentage reduction then a straight milligram reduction.

Brassmonkey

20 years on Paxil starting at 20mg and working up to 40mg. Sept 2011 started 10% every 6 weeks taper (2.5% every week for 4 weeks then hold for 2 additional weeks), currently at 7.9mg. Oct 2011 CTed 15oz vodka a night, to only drinking 2 beers most nights, totally sober Feb 2013.

Since I wrote this I have continued to decrease my dose by 10% every 6 weeks (2.5% every week for 4 weeks and then hold for an additional 2 weeks). I added in an extra 6 week hold when I hit 10mg to let things settle out even more. When I hit 3mgpw it became hard to split the drop into 4 parts so I switched to dropping 1mgpw (pill weight) every week for 3 weeks and then holding for another 3 weeks.  The 3 + 3 schedule turned out to be too harsh so I cut back to dropping 1mgpw every 4 weeks which is working better.

Final Dose 0.016mg.     Current dose 0.000mg 04-15-2017

Thank you Brass monkey!  I drink the coconut water for the potassium because I have issues with many of the foods high in potassium so was using that.  But I will cut back and figure out other options and see how it goes.  Thank you so much!

I think that reduction method sounds much better for me...thank you for the explanations.  Am hoping my doctor will go along with this and that it will help my system not derail so often and for so long.  Thanks again!

@RosettaOh wish was NO nervousness!!  Guess when I say not nervous I mean not the off the scale all consuming anxiety and thoughts and tears etc that come with it.  But it has been a better day...grateful for that.  Just frustrating that you try to correct something and that causes problems with something else and on it goes! @brassmonkey Your taper of .5mgai (milligrams active ingredient) is roughly a 5% reduction.  Taken all at once it could produce symptoms that are fairly harsh for a while.

Thank you for affirming that...I have felt pretty bad for weeks now.  Wanted to ask when you think would be ok to start your taper....I have another week of the 9mg capsules.  Could I ask, too, is mg of 'active ingredient' the same as just getting things compounded or cutting your pills?  You lost me...not that that takes much these days!

Thank you again brassmonkey for your help...I am grateful!

The designation mgai (milligrams active ingredient) is the weight of the actual medication in a dose.  It is commonly referred to as the "strength" of the dose. So if you are taking a 10mg pill you would be getting 10mgai of the medication.  If you have the pharmacist make up 9.75mg capsules then you would be getting 9.75mgai of medication.  If you are cutting your pills and weighing them yourself it's a bit different because you have to weigh out the mgpw (milligrams pill weight) that corresponds to the proper mgai.  But if you are using a dose of 9.75 you are still getting 9.75mgai, but the mgpw would be a lot higher because of the fillers used to make the pill big enough to handle. The same thing applies to using a liquid, eight commercial or homemade.

Clear as mud, yes?

AHHHH....yikes!!!  You and Einstein!  Cant quite grasp those numbers! ;)

brassmonkey do you have thoughts on a next drop?  I dropped the .5 Viibryd on June 11.  Then on July 9 started a new .7 compounded capsule rather than 7 of .1's...trying to save some money.  That seemed to affect me.  Started the new .2s on July 16.  I called the pharmacy and they said everything is the same.  When I called again they said there could be a 3% variance.  So I feel those new capsules made a difference as well.  I am thinking I ought to hold longer and stabilize better but perhaps if I do your slide it would be ok?  If you have any thoughts bout slide vs holding would appreciate it.  Did talk to Shep about the capsules and all...guess wondering if you think if I do the slide, a lower drop, it would be ok.  Have 6 capsules of Viibryd left...

Thanks again to all of you!!

I'm basically saying that a 9.75mg dose is meant to be the same no matter what the source. The key word is "meant".  There will be variations between manufacturers, brand name/ generic, and a lot of other factors.  As you are seeing with the switch from several capsules to a single one.

We have a saying "when in doubt, hold". I'll have to get with Shep to figure out what is going on before I can recommend anything.

I dont think the doctor is going to allow that given what the therapist said to me today...he is their medical director.  Essentially withdrawal is fearful nd painful and I need to learn how to deal with it...boy that felt bad...just shaking my head today.  Thank you @Rosetta and @brassmonkey.  I am grateful for everything!  Let know brassmonkey about your thoughts.  I know Im not wrong that the Viibryd tapering itself affects the Clonazepam...and other changes seemed to just pile on which I didnt expect. Thanks!

Your doctor is not going to allow you to hold the Viibryd?
