Dabhob33
3 hours ago, Shep said: Wow, that's quite a list! No wonder you were out power washing your deck for days. The fact that you didn't know that there was anything in that drink means it definitely wasn't the placebo effect. I wish this was something that was safe to take during withdrawal. Just a thought, though - you may want to look into these supplements individually and see if there's anything you can work with that will be safe. For instance, it may be worth trying a small dose of Glycine for sleep instead of periodically using doxylamine. Since you are on sedating drugs already, adding in anything - including a supplement - that is sedating may cause a paradoxical reaction, but it may be a safer option than doxy. You can use the search feature or Google "surviving antidepressants" + [name of supplement] and you'll find information about the supplements that are safe during withdrawal and other members' experiences with them. It’s interesting I slept so well. Could be something there (in a good way) even with all those ingredients. The only “bad thing” I see on the list is caffeine. I felt clear headed, with no cog fog. I may get a single use packet from the person my wife got the Spark from to see how I feel. Perhaps I use a quarter of a third of the packet at a time to give me a boost? I'm not so sure caffeine is the only "bad thing" in that list, but I'm definitely no expert on supplements. Please do a thorough research of all of them before embarking down the Spark path. It's smart to use a smaller dose, but I'm not sure what the long term consequences might be on a very stabilized nervous system. Here is some information to get you started: Supplements - what helps, what doesn't? There are also a number of links within that thread that are well worth checking out, if you haven't already. 18 hours ago, Dabhob33 said: Also, how much glycine would I take? Interesting report on glycine and b12 http://hospitalnews.com/nutritional-treatments-to-combat-anxiety-disorders/ do either of these act on Benzo receptors? i did see this... https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/m/pubmed/4152296/ My main concern with adding in glycine is a paradoxical reaction due to having too many "brakes" in your drug and supplement cocktail. That last link you posted states "The benzodiazepines may exert their antianxiety, anticonvulsant and muscle-relaxant effects by mimicking the effects of the neurotransmitter glycine at its central nervous system receptor sites." Sounds like even more reason to be cautious, although I'm not aware of any warnings about combining the two. Of course, what's in the scientific literature is not dealing with people going through withdrawal. Here's the link to the SA glycine thread, which also gives members' experiences at various doses. Glycine for sleep I started out at 500 mg and slowly increased to 1,500 mg. Anytime I increase more than this, after 2 - 3 nights, I get a severe paradoxical reaction and my sleep stops. So I've yet to be able to get up to what is recommended in the scientific literature of 2 or 3 grams. An option for getting glycine naturally is through Bone Broth. Dr. Mercola writes about it here: Bone Broth—One of Your Most Healing Diet Staples Please use the search feature or Google "surviving antidepressants" + [name of supplement] and you'll find information about the other ingredients in the Spark drink. Administrator Altostrata Posted July 10, 2018 Administrator Share Posted July 10, 2018 Did the sauna trigger symptoms? The extreme heat can cause problems for some people. The depression is a side effect of the benzos, sad to say. Why are you taking lithium with the Valium at the odd hour of 1-2 a.m.? This is not medical advice. Dabhob33
I continue to get very little sleep and when I do I wake up throughout the night in a panic and the times I do doze off for a few seconds I immediately wake in a panic. I went to a sleep specialist. Worthless. I feel desperate bc my depression is tied to my sleep. My mind nd races and anxiety increases as well. I’m thinking of going to the ER. Bee5
I am not an expert, but could this be protracted withdrawal from ADs, rather than withdrawal from benzos? Perhaps @Altostrata or @ChessieCat could weigh in? I see you stopped your AD in Dec 2017, so this could be protracted withdrawal, it hits some people several months down the line (my protracted withdrawal hit 4 months after my last AD dose). @Altostrata and @ChessieCat, would you recommend a reinstatement of a low dose of Pristiq? Perhaps a low-dose reinstatement could save you from the ER. 7 months of prescribed polypharmacy in 2015-2016, including several classes of psych meds. 1st attempt at taper was too fast. 2nd attempt is underway. 1 Mar 2018: 37.5 mg paroxetine, 150 mg lamotrigine, 300 mg quetiapine 1 Oct 2020: 30 mg paroxetine, 150 mg lamotrigine, 37.5 mg quetiapine 15 May 2022: 25 mg paroxetine, 150 mg lamotrigine, 0 mg quetiapine 11 Jan 2024: 20 mg paroxetine, 118.75 mg lamotrigine Supplements: Iron, Vit D magnesium glycinate, omega 3 I am not a medical professional. Administrator Altostrata Posted July 11, 2018 Administrator Share Posted July 11, 2018 It seems Dabhob's symptoms were triggered by a Valium decrease. On 2/15/2018 at 6:00 PM, Dabhob33 said: My present symptoms (burning body and head, heavy eyes, tightness around head - most in forehead area, depressed, my head’s in slow motion) started after my latest 1mg per week Valium drop (5-10%). The 4th week is when it hits me. Might be the long acting nature of Valium. And then I hold. I held after my 20-16mg drop. Now holding at 11mg. Not sure if coincidence. Dabhob, are all your lithium doses in these notes? Do you take the lithium irregularly? Administrator Altostrata Posted July 12, 2018 Administrator Share Posted July 12, 2018 My guess is doxylamine has gone paradoxical on you. If I were you, I'd stop taking it. That could be the reason for your sleep panic. A paradoxical reaction means a drug does the opposite of what it's supposed to do. When you take several things at the same time that supposedly would help you sleep, in the aggregate, they can be too much for your nervous system and cause a paradoxical reaction -- your nervous system fights against them. Such a combination might well be Quote 10 [pm] - lithium 225mg / 5mg Valium - 25mg doxylamine First, If I were you, I'd stop taking doxylamine. Keep notes over several days to see if that helps your sleep. Then, I would not take Valium and lithium at the same time at night. They need to be offset by at least a couple of hours. My guess is a paradoxical reaction also happens in the afternoon because the combination of lithium and Valium and maybe the eye drops, too, is too much for you. Your Valium schedule is also lopsided, with 5mg at 8 a.m. and 5mg at 10 p.m. There's a gap of 10 hours overnight and 14 hours during the day. But overall, it looks to me like you're taking too much lithium or Valium or maybe both. (The eye drops must remain constant.) Have you worked with Shep on your Valium schedule? On 7/10/2018 at 2:36 PM, Dabhob33 said: Quote Looking at your schedule, is there some reason you wait until noon to take your Lithium? I would like to see these doses split by more like 12 hours than 8. It seems like, sometimes your evening dose of Lithium offers some stability (though not always, when stressors intervene), and so it might be beneficial to keep your lithium spaced out by 12 hours instead of 8 / 16 (16 hours from night dose to noon, 8 hours until night dose ***i can take at 10am and 10pm. How does that sound? Those were suggestions made by @JanCarol . I would prefer she review your lithium intake. I am concerned about it being lopsided, too. Let's say lithium does have a stabilizing effect for you. It would be better to stretch it out, and maybe get more of that influence into your sleeping time. On 7/10/2018 at 3:08 PM, Dabhob33 said: I just checked and it looked like I slept relatively well the evening I used saunas. But now you have me thinking. I’m paralyzed so much by things. What to eat? Supplements... what to do? Not do? I’m literally obsessed about it. And research endlessly. I think it revs my symptoms as well. Don't overthink it. Keep good notes and look for patterns. If it seem saunas are beneficial, work more of them into your evenings. If the beneficial pattern does not bear out, take fewer saunas. Your body is telling you you're taking too many "brakes" -- the lithium and Valium. Perhaps you want to discuss reducing the Valium again? This is not medical advice. My main issue is I feel depressed and fatigued during the day and then doze off for a few seconds and wake in a horrible panic. I’m terrified to sleep. Will address. But my psychiatrist is a fan of the lithium. Edited July 12, 2018 by ChessieCat reduced font Dabhob33 - Pristiq 25mg July 20, 2017 / 100mg November 29, 2017. Administrator Altostrata Posted July 12, 2018 Administrator Share Posted July 12, 2018 "Brakes" are drugs that subdue or depress the central nervous system. You are taking two of them, lithium and Valium, and your psychiatrist should recognize that your side effects are because you're taking too much of both. Perhaps you need a new psychiatrist? I’m actually switching to a new psychiatrist. Just met with her. She is a fan of lithium though, but wants me off valium (in due time). Could these be contributing to the sleep panic issues? Administrator Altostrata Posted July 12, 2018 Administrator Share Posted July 12, 2018 As I've explained in detail above, you are suffering from side effects and paradoxical reactions from too-high doses of both drugs. This is not medical advice. Discuss any decisions about your medical care with a knowledgeable medical practitioner. Dabhob33
I particularly feel the effects after taking the valium. Within minutes can feel it wash over me in a very negative manner. Don’t feel it as much with the lithium, but don’t doubt it has a similar effect. should we consider restarting the valium drop? I know you mentioned dropping lithium. I just fall into deep despair when taking the valium. I can feel myself feel better around 5pm each day (when valium wears off?). Dabhob33 - Pristiq 25mg July 20, 2017 / 100mg November 29, 2017.
