Dabhob33: introduction

Hello - hope you’re having a good day.  I’m considering a liquid valium taper (from manufacturer).   There’s a company out there called Roxane.  Just trying to get my pharmacist to find it.

Do you have any personal or anecdotal feedback from members who’ve tried liquid valium.   Feedback?   I’m just looking to slow my taper, with smaller doses.

Thank you,

Dave

Hi, Dabhob.

I responded to your benzo question in your benzo thread here, but wanted to encourage you to hold your benzo and work with antidepressant moderators to get your AD reinstated.

The best way to do this is to provide a symptoms and drug journal. Please use the below format. Once you have a couple days of this listed, they will be able to help you.

And as I mentioned over in your benzo thread, please HOLD your benzo until your antidepressant is sorted out.

Keep notes on paper about your drug dosages and daily symptom pattern

A symptom pattern that occurs regularly over several days could mean the symptoms are from withdrawal, other adverse effects of drugs, or something else you do on a daily schedule.

In the course of discussion in your Introductions forum topic, you may be asked to keep notes on paper of your daily symptom pattern, including when you take your drugs, their dosages, and any symptoms.

What we need to see for every individual day over several days is:

- Time and dosage for drugs taken in morning
- Time and description of any symptoms in the morning

- Time and dosage for drugs taken in afternoon
- Time and description of any symptoms in the afternoon

- Time and dosage for drugs taken in evening
- Time and description of any symptoms in the evening

- Time and dosage for drugs taken in middle of the night
- Time and description of any symptoms in the middle of the night (such as waking)

And so forth. A diary, in chronological order, such as:

6 a.m. Woke and vomited
8 a.m. Took 2.5mg Lexapro
10 a.m. Had diarrhea
10:30 a.m. Ate breakfast
11:35 a.m. Got a headache, lasted one hour
12:35 p.m. Ate lunch
4 p.m. Stomachache
5 p.m. Took 2.5mg Lexapro
6 p.m. Ate dinner
9:20 p.m. Headache
10:00 p.m. Took 50mg Seroquel
10:20 p.m. Headache got worse
10:30 p.m. Fell asleep
2:30 a.m. Woke, took 3mg Ambien (NOT "took 1/2 tablet Ambien")
2:45 a.m. Fell asleep
4:30 a.m. Woke with headache

An appointments diary is perfect for this and can be bought at stationery stores.

They have a page for each day with times for appointments which can be filled in with doses, symptoms etc as shown by Alto.

Thank you.  Will respond more detail, but I had to come off AD.  The pristiq was making me sick.   I’ve tried every AD and have had no luck.

One other thing Altostrsta.  Regarding the rapid Librium taper in Jan 2017,  I wonder how much of that has to do with how I’m feeling.  Even though i reinstated five months later with Valium in May 2017.   I may have never balanced out.

I’m obsessed.  Can’t stop thinking about it and that I did permanent damage to myself.

I also wonder if the damage from the levaquin (June 2016 - 1 pill) could still be causing troubles?   Or is there a good chance that has passed?

If I was to reinstate to AD do I have to go to Pristiq or similar?    I get sick on pristiq, Cymbalta, Effexor and that family.    Or go on Prozac?   After talking with Shep.

Im still trying to figure this site out.  I’m not getting it.

Am I going to be ok?   It seems like you all are very worried.  Is it possible to have a phone call to coordinate.   I have 7 screens open and can’t concentrate and am overwhelmed.

My apologies

This is an online peer support forum staffed by unrostered volunteers, who are experiencing their own withdrawal and life issues, and many of the mods also work.  Phone consultations would put an immense burden and responsibility on the SA staff.

Sick in what way? What dosages have you tried of Cymbalta and Effexor?

Doses and times

8am - valium 5mg and 3 eye drops

4pm - valium 5mg

8pm - lithium 900mg

9pm - valium 1mg and 3 eye drops

You can see from your drug interaction report that interactions may be causing some symptoms. Are dizziness or low blood pressure problems for you?

Please keep daily notes on paper about your symptoms, when you take your drugs, and their dosages. This is important.

Those sound like withdrawal symptoms from the benzo reduction.

Yes, you could have some vulnerability from coming off Librium. People do recover from this. Healing can be slow and frustrating.

This is also true of an adverse reaction to levaquin, although it's likely that has been superseded.

Sick in nauseated sense, spinning, diarrhea, jitteriness, crawl out my skin feelings at times .  I took Cymbalta from 30 to 90mg and Effexor 75 to 225mg.

I will keep a journal per the example.

It’s 4:30am here and I’ve been up all night.  Body on fire.  It was a big night after throwing my wife’s 40th birthday party with a good number of people.  Good distraction, but overstimulating with so many people and so much to do.  Had to put on a happy face.  Body is buzzing, head throbbing and body burning as mentioned.   Distracting now with watching stand up comedy.

My psychiatrist gave me her cell number to text her as needed bc of how I had been feeling over last few months.   I texted her this morning and she responded saying she doesn’t agree with idea of putting me back on AD.  She’s seen how I reacted to them previously.   She said that I’ll settle down soon.  I’ll bring it up again.   Do I fire her if she doesn’t go along with plan?  What AD do I take?

Here is my current valium taper program. Pills.    As mentioned I’m holding at 11mg.  As I drop down I need to figure out how to lessen the % per cut, particularly 2mg on down (liquid).  When ready to drop again,  do I drop every two weeks?  Month?

I’m planning on going with liquid valium.   Psychiatrist rxd.   Pharmacist ordered.   Roxane is manufacturer.   Non alcohol suspension.  I’ll post specifics when I get it.   It’s 5mg/5mL.  Any feedback on anyone who has gone this route?  Manufacturer vs self made.  Looking forward to being able to cutting at very small doses with it.

Here is my current valium taper program. Pills.    As mentioned I’m holding at 11mg.  As I drop down I need to figure out how to lessen the % per cut, particularly 2mg on down (liquid).  When ready to drop again,  do I drop every two weeks?  Month?

Hi, Dabhob.

It's best to taper according to your symptoms. This drug and symptoms journal format is great for helping you with this:

Keep notes on paper about your drug dosages and daily symptom pattern

I’m planning on going with liquid valium.   Psychiatrist rxd.   Pharmacist ordered.   Roxane is manufacturer.   Non alcohol suspension.  I’ll post specifics when I get it.   It’s 5mg/5mL.  Any feedback on anyone who has gone this route?  Manufacturer vs self made.  Looking forward to being able to cutting at very small doses with it.

This will be perfect.

What AD do I take?

I've asked the other mods for feedback.

Please stop tapering and hold the Valium and Lithium at the same dose. Let's come up with a game plan for coming off, which may include a small reinstatement of your AD.

I’m sorry if I’m repearibv myself or posting in the wrong section.   I can’t take pristiq or similar.  What AD would you recommend I go on to help get through the fast AD taper issues I’m having.  I believe I have some Prozac remaining.

I’m working with Shep on the valium side of things.  Waiting to hear from pharmacist relating to liquid valium I was prescribed.   Will help with slowing my taper with smaller doses.

Again,  still trying to figure this site out and how best to use it.

thanks for your help.

I received my liquid valium today.   I have a lot of 2mg and 5 mg pills remaining.  Do I start the liquid right away or wait until I start cutting into, for instance, 10.20mg,,when it will be harder to cut the pill?

After tonight I will have 3 days of my drug/symptoms journal.  Stay tuned...

Hi Altostrata

Do you recommend a particular AD to go on for the short time to help balance me out from the quick pristiq drop?   Or should I  ride the sxs out at this point?

Hi, Dab.

Please start a drug and symptoms journal and post it in your thread.

Keep notes on paper about your drug dosages and daily symptom pattern

On 2/18/2018 at 3:44 AM, Altostrata said:

You can see from your drug interaction report that interactions may be causing some symptoms. Are dizziness or low blood pressure problems for you?

Please keep daily notes on paper about your symptoms, when you take your drugs, and their dosages. This is important.

As Alto mentioned, some of your symptoms may be coming from the drugs you are currently taking. We really need a journal to be able to help.

Thanks, Dabhob. This information is very helpful.

The following stands out from your listings:

1. Vitamin D.

You mention on the post where you listed vitamin D that you were able to nap, but "woke in panic, burning" so I wanted to give you more information about this vitamin. Some members report vitamin D to be stimulating. For more, please see:

Vitamin D3 (cholecalciferol or calcitriol)

If you don't want to eliminate it, you may want to reduce the Vitamin D and take it earlier in the morning, as it may affect your sleep, especially with a compromised nervous system due to withdrawal.

The only two supplements that are recommended during withdrawal are fish oil and magnesium, as many people find them calming to the nervous system. However, please only add in one at a time and at a very small dose to see how you do. For more, please see:

King of supplements: Omega-3 fatty acids (fish oil)

Magnesium, nature's calcium channel blocker

2. Higher Valium doses during the day than at night.

You also are reporting "fatigue" and "heavy head" in the mornings and you also are taking a higher dose of Valium during the day than at night. You may want to take your highest dose of Valium at night instead of during the day. Please let me know your thoughts on this and we'll set up a schedule to change your dosing - please note it's best to only move your dose one hour a day (it's gentler on your nervous system).

3. Possible early morning blood sugar drops.

You also mention dizziness first thing in the morning. Does the dizziness go away after eating breaking? I'm wondering if you might be dealing with early morning drops in blood sugar which may resolve upon eating a protein-rich breakfast.

I've asked the mods for feedback based on your listings, as I'm not sure which AD to recommend.

I picked up Liquid Valium today.  Looking to start today.

My current schedule is  I usually take my 2nd 5mg dose at 4pm.   Should I move it to 5pm, sticking with the 1 hour thinking you mentioned earlier.    Also, should I move the 5mg 1 hour each day until bed time (10pm)?  And move the 1mg to 4pm?   Or eventually just take the two doses 5mg (8AM) and 6mg (10pm).

Sick in what way? What dosages have you tried of Cymbalta and Effexor?

You can see from your drug interaction report that interactions may be causing some symptoms. Are dizziness or low blood pressure problems for you?

Please keep daily notes on paper about your symptoms, when you take your drugs, and their dosages. This is important.

You asked this several times. Here was my response:

This is also true of an adverse reaction to levaquin, although it's likely that has been superseded.

I get nauseous, jittery, anxious, dizzy on pristiq, Effexor and Cymbalta.  The whole time I was on pristiq I felt this way.

Not sure where lithium falls - on AD or benzo side.   When should I take the 900mg?   I usually take in evening before bed.   Stay the course or take another time?

My present symptoms (burning body and head, heavy eyes, tightness around head - most in forehead area, depressed, my head’s in slow

motion) started after my latest 1mg per week Valium drop (5-10%).   The 4th week is when it hits me.  Might be the long acting nature of Valium.  And then I hold.    I held after my 20-16mg drop.  Now holding at 11mg.  Not sure if coincidence.

D, it sounds like your symptoms are due to too-fast benzo tapering. That's when they got worse, correct? My guess is reinstatement of an antidepressant may not help.

Also, do you not take your eye drops on a daily schedule? Since they have significant interactions with the other drugs, it's important to put that in your symptom diary, too.

When did you start the eye drops? Since they cause dizziness, I'm wondering if they might not be a big part of the problem.

I’m planning on going with liquid valium.   Psychiatrist rxd.   Pharmacist ordered.   Roxane is manufacturer.   Non alcohol suspension.  I’ll post specifics when I get it.   It’s 5mg/5mL.  Any feedback on anyone who has gone this route?  Manufacturer vs self made.  Looking forward to being able to cutting at very small doses with it.

It's easier to transition to liquid by taking part of your doses in tablet form and part in liquid form for a while. Are you taking 5mg Valium tablets?

By the way, sounds like your psychiatrist is supportive, which is a good thing.

You’re right.  It’s most likely due to pace of benzo taper.

I included the eye drops with the most recent journal.  I’ve been taking them for years.

Regarding Valium, if agreeable I can take 5mg pill in AM and liquid at night.  I’ll jisr need to know how long I do this?    The pharmacist didn’t seem to be concerned with titrating, saying I can go back and forth between liquid and pill or even combining as needed (ie 9mg - 4mg liquid and 5mg pill if I wanted to....not sure why I would).   I hope going to liquid doesn't confuse the issue.

Easy for the pharmacist to say.

We suggest gradually converting to liquid so as not to bring a confounding factor into the works. Please work with Shep regarding dividing your doses.
