Just documenting: Started the second part of my crossover  tonight, which is half of the old formula and half of the new formula.

I did the first part of the crossover, which was 3/4 of the old formula and 1/4 of the new formula for 12 days. I have plenty of the old capsules left so I was in no hurry. Better safe than sorry. The first part of the crosstaper went well. Let’s see how the second part goes. There’s definitely nothing linear in this process we call tapering. It’s take a day at a time, and see how you go.

Hope everyone is coping as best they can (what is it with emoji suggestions popping up? I went to write coping and I had just written the first part which was cop, and it was suggested I use the policeman emoji😂).

Sending hugs to one n all🤗🤗🤗

Hi Direstraits n Neroli,

Yes, I’m so glad the crosstaper is going well so far too. I will probably do this second part for about a week or so.

I went and got 1ml syringes from the same brand I get my 5ml syringes from as I wanted to microtaper after the crosstaper is finally done. I measured water between the 5ml syringe and the 1ml syringe and it’s way off!! Not sure what to do yet when I finally start tapering, not sure how to microtaper with the measurements being off by so much.

Why are the measurements all so different, even from the same company????

I think when I start tapering again I’ll just use my 5ml syringe for the first part of the taper and taper by 4% a month and hold. All going well I’ll be down by 1.25mg in five months.

It’s so frustrating when you can’t even get the same measurements in different syringes from the same companies. When I can think more clearly I’ll somehow have to figure out what to do when the doses get smaller. I can do the calculations okay with a lot of effort, but trying to figure out what to do when I’m using a 5ml syringe and a 1ml syringe at the same time that don’t even match up!! Ahhh!!!

Okay, on a brighter note, I did get out and about today, went to the City and the library. A friend of mine is going to see if we can get cheap last minute tickets to the Keith Urban concert. Here’s hoping. Music is really good for the soul.

Still can’t do much with my wrist so I’ll say bye for now.

Sending much love💚💚

Well, a syringe has what is called a dead volume. This is the volume that doesn't come out the syringe when you empty it! This only applies for the first check mark, in this case the first ml. If you empty a 5 ml syringe let's say from 5 ml mark to 4 ml you gave exactly 1 ml liquid. Same for 4 to 3 ml same for 3 to 2 ml. Same for 2 to 1 ml. Same for 1 to 0 ml, but in the latter case you will have some dead volume left in the syringe. You should left this in the syringe because it is designed this way!

So, if you suck up liquid in a syringe let's say from nothing to 1 ml mark. Thet total volume of liquid in your syringe is maybe 1.2 ml. This is 1 ml + 0.2 ml dead volume. If you empty the syringe it will release 1 ml. The 0.2 ml dead volume stays in the syringe.

If you taper using syringes use the 5 ml syringe from 5 to 1 ml if possible. Below 1ml use the 1 ml syringe.

Never fill a syringe with another one because the dead volume messes up your calculation.

If you need let's say 4.6 ml you take the 5ml syringe and fill it to 4 ml.

Empty this in a small cup, leave the dead volume in the syringe (the liquid that stays in the tip).

Fill your 1 ml syringe to 0.6 ml mark and empty it in the same cup., Leave the dead volume in the syringe.

Drink your liquid and flush you cup with water and drink that too.

Flush your syringe with water and throw that away. Dry the tip of syringe with some toilet paper.

Don't drink de dead volume because you will be getting more than 4.6 ml...

Hope this is clear. It's important to do the same every day. That way you get the most accurate dosage.

I use a volumetric pipette for this (an old one from the lab) but this is not necessary. A syringe will do, I mean we are not talking about 1/1000 of a mg right? One day 5.45 mg and next day 5.46 will be ok. Such a small difference is negligible.

Good luck!!!

Hi @jozeff

Thanks for your reply here n your PM. My brain fog is so severe at the moment that everything I read is so overwhelming. I’ll try and read what you wrote again when I’m able.

What the problem is, is that the 5ml syringe n the 1ml syringe are from the same company, but when I put 1ml of the water from the 1ml syringe into the 5ml syringe it doesn’t measure up to 1ml. It only comes to 4/5 of the 1ml. That’s a big amount when one is tapering, as it is around 0.25mg or so.

Are you saying that that is normal? Appreciate your reply.

Good night from Aussie Land 💚

Just documenting :

My 5ml syringe and my 1ml syringe don’t match up.

This is what I’ve done for years: I use a 5ml BD syringe to make up the 20ml of water that I use. Then I’ve been using the same syringe to take out the amount of liquid I need to take. This way everything is done according to the same measurements.

I’m down to 7.5mg, so that is 6ml. I ingest a full syringe of 5ml and then another 1ml from the same syringe, thus making up the 6ml.

I wanted to microtaper, so I would have taken the full 5ml from the 5ml syringe, and then used the 1ml syringe to slowly taper down that extra 1ml until I got down to 5ml.

The 5ml and the 1ml syringes don’t match up though. The 1ml syringe doesn’t come to the same 1ml as the 5ml syringe. Not sure what to do yet🤔. I can taper down the 1ml by doing the cut and hold for five months and get down to 5ml, but as the doses get lower I won’t be able to use the 5ml syringe to take out what I need to take.

I could add more water to the tablet too, but I’ve been using the 5ml syringe to measure the water, I would have to use it 8 times to make up 40ml of water. I have a measuring cylinder, but again the measurements aren’t the same as my BD syringe.

Anyway, just writing this down to get it out of my head.

Hi everyone,

I hope you’re all coping as best you can. I’m sorry I’m not able to interact very much at the moment, but I have to rest my wrist until the pain subsides. I’m also doing stretching exercises. I got repetitive strain injury because of crocheting non stop for years to help me with withdrawals. When my wrist heals I’m giving up crocheting and doing other n crafts that don’t require the same repetitive motions over n over.

I just had a friend visit, which was so heartwarming. She is really sick n lives about an hour or so away by train. She loves yellow n I got her yellow balloons with smiley faces on them, and I gave her a yellow blanket I made for her when I was able to crochet. I was soooo happy to see her. I love yellow too, such a happy colour. Got lots of photos of her holding the balloons, and yes, she was wearing a yellow dress. The photos turned out great!😁

A kind member @JackieDecides said I might be able to write on people’s threads with voice activation, but I use an iPad and I’m not all that technologically minded, so wouldn’t have a clue how to figure that out. I don’t even know how to do links. ChessieCat has been so kind to organise a tag team with me, and she will share links when I need them. Thanks @ChessieCat.

One thing that brightened my day today was that a friend got us🎫🎫 to the Keith Urban concert next week on Thursday night. We got them for less than half price. Yay! 🎼🎼 I love my music!

Hope to interact with you guys soon again💚💚

Hi Rabe,

So true. I just get them from the chemist. I can’t believe how the same company can make syringes that differ??? I’ll have to get more accurate syringes when I go to the lower doses, but I’ll probably go through withdrawals because the syringes I’m using now compared to the new syringes I will eventually use will be different in measurement.  I’m just taking a day at a time at the moment. First things first, I just have to get through this crosstaper first.

I’ll probably just do the cut and hold for the next five months, maybe ten months. Just taking a day at a time, and may change things as I go along.

Sending hugs to you Rabe🤗🤗

Hi one n all,

I know we are all suffering so much on this site, not only with withdrawals but also with many other things. I can’t use my right hand much due to R.S.I. at the moment, but I know that it will heal eventually, and I’ll be able to do a few more things.

I just wanted to say there are ALWAYS things we can do despite our limitations. I’m stuck in bed a lot of the time because of my illness, but that doesn’t stop me doing things. I’m entertaining myself right now watching music videos. I would be doing crafts, but I can’t because of my hand and wrist.

Looking forward to the Keith Urban concert next week. Couldn’t afford it last time he was here. Music is such a balm for the soul! I’m a major music freak, can you tell?😁

Anyway, it’s back to music videos🎼🎼🎼🎼💚💚

oh, this is SO true. ☹️

sending hugs to you! 🤗

Currently taking Ramapril (blood pressure) 5 mg twice a day

Omeprazole 10 mg AM and 20 mg PM  (the taper has gone nowhere after the first cut)

Famotidine   once a day (and I still needs tums sometimes)

magnesium 200 mg at night

as of yesterday 2 fish oil capsules "EPA-DHA 1000"

off Lexapro as of 5/2018  - last dose had been 5 mg every other day for a couple years

highest dose had been 20 mg at which point I was diagnosed with Bipolar II, which went away when I cut the lexapro down to 15 mg.

I spent years on Paxil before Lexapro (can't remember dose), briefly on Effexor and Abilify and others I have forgotten. in fact, when I was diagnoses with BPII I was put on all kinds of things which made me feel so bad I stopped them cold turkey within maybe 3 or 4 weeks, thank goodness. since then I've known these pills were terrible and I weaned down the Lexapro with zero help or support over I'm not sure how many years.

Hi JackieDecides n Powerback,

Thanks for coming to say hi. I hope you both get through yet another day okay. It’s a minute at a time sometimes, isn’t it?

I’m sorry you miss your sister Powerback. I love living in Australia, and I’m sure your sister probably does too. I’m glad you got to catch up with her a little while ago though. It’s good keeping fond memories near to your heart. I find it helps get me through waves. Did you take photos? I love looking back at photos too of the fun things I did.  When you recover you will have to come n visit her. It’s really cold there in winter. I was staying  not far from Melbourne a couple of years ago, and it was around one degree Celsius. That never happens in Queensland.

I’m okay with the heat, I have airconditioning in my bedroom.❄️❄️❄️😄 We don’t get a lot of cold weather here in Queensland. Just a couple of months, and then it’s back to warm weather. I enjoy both cold n warm weather. I like being snuggled up in front of a heater in winter, and I love the warm weather, I can go swimming. 🌊

I want to get myself a weighted blanket one day. I keep thinking about that, but I never get around to doing that. Xyz was just saying that she just bought one from Amazon. I’ve never bought anything from Amazon, I buy things off EBay. I’m sure I’ll find the weighted blanket soothing, a lot of people have. Kristine found it claustrophobic though, but most people love them.

Take care💚💚

Hello Carmie

Thanks for dropping in on my thread and saying hi.

Yes, I'm pleased I managed to do the groceries - I think it is one thing that makes me worry more, if I cannot manage to do that at least at the weekend I fear my legs are getting worse.  At those moments I bring you to mind and remind myself that your CFS and WD have clobbered you severely and yet you have retained your spirit - so I keep you as a role model.

I do hope your hand gets better - good on you for typing with your other hand, it must take some time to do one-handed typing.

I'm going to have lunch now and then I may do a relaxation meditation and that may help me to doze a bit (last night's sleep was light).

We are about to get the edge of the heatwave you are having over there - next week looks hot!  I will keep to air-conditioned spaces as much as possible.

Love and best wishes coming over the ditch to you.

Hi @neroli

Thank you for your lovely message, one of these days those legs of yours will start working better again. I’m sorry you struggle so much with that.

I spent the afternoon with friends so I’m feeling quite upbuilt, lots of laughter and hugs.😀 Going for a barbecue tomorrow at the 🌊🌊🌊.Yay!🎉 Was invited to the movies on Monday with a group of friends too, but I won’t know if I’ll have the strength on the day after going out two days in a row. I’ll see how I am on Monday. I have to keep some energy for the Keith Urban concert on Thursday night.

Hi everyone,

I’m sorry I can’t get to your threads today, my brain fog is severe due to my illness. What I wanted to say though is pleeeease continue to do the things you loved to do before withdrawals raised its ugly head. I spent a couple of hours just floating in the ocean today on a boogie board. I looooved it so much. I didn’t have the strength to do much, but the ocean is the most magnificent thing ever!

One day at a time does it, sending hugs🤗🤗

Hi @Gracee @Lloyd @neroli @direstraits @DMV64

Thanks for popping over. Yes, spending a couple of hours in the water yesterday was glorious. The water was beautiful and warm and I just held onto my boogie board and floated along. There’s something very relaxing about water. I was watching the dogs play in the water too. 🐶I would highly recommend spending time in water when going through withdrawals. If you don’t have much strength just get a boogie board or life jacket and float.

If I’m well enough I’m going back to the 🌊🌊🌊 next weekend.

I’m stuck in bed today, but keeping myself entertained. Two of my friends just messaged me to ask if I’m joining them at the movies today, but I don’t have the strength as I’ve been out two days in a row. They are going to see the new Mary Poppins movie. I haven’t been to the movies in ages, I seem to go to more concerts than movies. I buy DVDs or get them from the library, so I can always watch movies after they’re no longer in the cinema. The last time I went to the movies I saw Women In Black. It was a girly day out, and we went to a cafe afterwards.

I hope you all had a good weekend💚💚

Just documenting: It’s day nine of the second part of the crossover, it’s gone pretty well. The whole cross over has gone pretty well so far.  Deciding whether to do phase three tonight or wait until after the concert Thursday night. Decisions! Decisions!😃 I did the first part for 12 days, though most people do each phase of the cross over from 3 to 7 days. I’ll decide in an hour whether I’ll go to phase three because that’s when I’ll be taking my meds.

It should go okay if I do the next phase tonight as I’m still in withdrawal normal, and I’ve been in that phase for over a week. Our poor little brains in withdrawals have to weigh up so many options, it’s a wonder our brains don’t explode!🧨🧨😂

Here’s to decision making, sending hugs🤗

good luck with whatever you decide and can't wait to hear how the concert goes later this week.

😍

Hi Jackie,

Yes, I’m looking forward to the concert. I heard he puts on quite a show. I couldn’t go last time as I couldn’t afford it. I’ll let you know how it goes.

I did start phase three of my cross over last night and it’s all good so far. I’ll be back on my original tablets in no time. I’ll be soooo glad when I only have to do one water titration a night, and finally start tapering again. I’m still deciding whether to do phase three for a week or longer. I guess if I’m still okay in a week I might go totally back to my original tablets. All I can say is that the cross over has gone quite smoothly so far.

I had a weird morning, I woke up crying because of a dream I had. I wonder if it had anything to do with the meds? I’m okay otherwise. When I say I’m okay I mean I’m still in “withdrawal normal.”

Hope you’re doing okay, one moment at a time does it.💚

Hi Carmie,

Glad you got to get out in the water the other day. Something about the water makes it so calming for me especially the ocean. Not the best swimmer but just getting out there in it gives you a sense of doing something normal when going through this wd process.

You seem to take everything in your stride about this which considering your other illness you deal with is very awesome.

Hope your cross over continues to go well and you get to enjoy your concert.

Take it easy.

Hi @Tom37

Thanks for your lovely message. My brain is in lala land today, hoping for it to come back down to 🌏 at some stage.

Yes, it’s beautiful and calming being in the water, as you said. The beach is my happy place. How cool would it be to live near the beach.🏖🌊 I’d be in the water nearly every day. It certainly would be great while going through withdrawals.

So far this last phase of the cross over is going well. Maybe in a week or so I’ll be back to water titrating my original tablet. No more having to make up two water titrations every night. Yay!🎉

Hope you’re coping okay💚

Hi Carmie,

Really glad the cross taper is going smoothly! Hopefully that continues to be the case and soon there’s just one titration to do every day!

Take care 💚

Hi @eymen23

Thanks for your kind words. Yes, such a big difference doing a cross over from one formulation to another, instead of just swapping over straight away. I went through about three months of waves when I changed formulations without the cross over. I didn’t know anything about it at the time. This cross over has been such smooth sailing so far, I thought I’d have to go through three months of waves getting back to my original tablet. Yay for cross overs.🎉

I’m really grateful to brassmonkey for telling me to go back to my original tablet because compounding formulations aren’t that reliable. Someone on here today mentioned that they took in a few of their compounding capsules to get analysed, and none of them had the same amount in them.

Hope you’re doing okay💚
