Carmie: accidently doubling up on Seroquel one day while tapering

Hi Gracee,

Thanks for dropping by. My brain really isn’t on planet earth at the moment 🌏. I really want to interact with different ones at the moment, but I can’t read much.

It makes me sad too when people know what they should be doing withdrawal wise, but continue to taper too fast. Someone pm’d me and said they are having trouble sleeping etc because of their last taper. I told them not to taper by more than 10% a month, they tapered by 25 %. Okay, if you drop by 25% and hope everything is going to go well, it’s not!🙄🤔 They updosed again. Updosing doesn’t always work. It’s not a safety net. They went back to the last dose they were on.

When it comes to updosing you dont need to go back to the last dose you were on, you can go much lower. It works sometimes though. Before I knew anything about tapering or withdrawals I once tapered way too quick n got such severe akathisia that I was feeling like I was being electrocuted. After a week of this I couldn’t cope much longer so I updosed to the last dose I was on. Within a few days I was back to withdrawal normal.

The moral of the story is DON’T TAPER TOO QUICKLY!! My updose worked, but there’s no guarantee it will. Also, if you updose, start off with small amounts, they may work, if not updose slowly by a bit more.

I’m having a quiet day at home today in bed. I’m watching DVDs and getting up every now n again to do a bit of housework.

I’m soooo looking forward to tomorrow. Some friends of mine, that I haven’t seen in ages, are taking me out for morning tea. Can’t wait to spend some time with them.

Okay, it’s back to my DVD. I’m watching Ever After at the moment. Have seen it heaps of times, I own lots of DVDs. I love period dramas. I just ordered Larkrise To Candleford and Return To Crawford. I’ve seen them before, but I love owning DVDs. That way they are ready at hand to watch again.

My cat is asleep on the bed next to me, she’s looking soooo cute.

Take care, sending hugs🤗

Thanks for stopping by.

Yes holding is what I intend to do as cant think of any positive outcome if I change dose. From what I understand the brain/nervous system thrives on stability so changing dose doesn’t fit that. Have seen another member make multiple changes when trying to find stability and they are still not stable a couple years later....hopefully it will settle down for them soon.

I guess im just a bit vulnerable at the moment with this wave so you question things especially if something is suggested.

Sorry about the brain fog and I hope you start feeling better soon.

Good plan holding Tom👍

Yes, it’s sad when people make too many changes and then it takes them forever to stabilise.

I’m back on my original tablet and I haven’t been in major waves or anything. Some of my symptoms have been a bit higher than my baseline though this last week, and I’ve got a sore throat n ear now too, and I feel like I’m getting a flu. It’s happened before in withdrawals. Maybe it is a virus, but more than likely it’s withdrawals. Let’s see what happens.

I won’t be doing any tapering until I’ve been on my original tablet for at least a month or more.  I always listen to my body, it’s the only way to go.

Yes, we can certainly feel vulnerable when going through bad waves, I’ve felt that way myself. I always take comfort in the fact that no matter how bad or how long the wave was I always stabilised again.  I find lots of distractions to get me through waves. Distractions have always been my coping method.

Sending hugs🤗

Just documenting: Woke up with a really sore throat again, also sore jaw and ears. Feels like I have a virus, but it may just be withdrawals. I don’t have a temperature, and I’m not coughing or having to blow my nose. Time will tell. My throat is really sore though, and my head feels stuffed up.

I’ve had a sore throat, earaches and sore jaw before with withdrawals. When I first got CFS I used to get sore throats all the time. CFS is a CNS illness and before I learnt what was wrong with me I used to push myself too much and I continued to crash and get sore throats constantly. I could never understand why I kept getting sore throats which never turned into colds. Once I was diagnosed it all made sense.

It looks like a day in bed for me. I’m in good spirits, I no longer even worry every time I get new symptoms. Let’s see if this is withdrawals or a virus. If it’s a virus I’m going to get some olive leaf or coconut oil. I wish I had some at home.

I’ve been watching period dramas. Am watching Cranford at the moment, I just ordered Little Dorrit and Bleak House. Good ol’ Charles Dickens!

Take care everyone💚💚

Well, a syringe has what is called a dead volume. This is the volume that doesn't come out the syringe when you empty it! This only applies for the first check mark, in this case the first ml. If you empty a 5 ml syringe let's say from 5 ml mark to 4 ml you gave exactly 1 ml liquid. Same for 4 to 3 ml same for 3 to 2 ml. Same for 2 to 1 ml. Same for 1 to 0 ml, but in the latter case you will have some dead volume left in the syringe. You should left this in the syringe because it is designed this way!

So, if you suck up liquid in a syringe let's say from nothing to 1 ml mark. Thet total volume of liquid in your syringe is maybe 1.2 ml. This is 1 ml + 0.2 ml dead volume. If you empty the syringe it will release 1 ml. The 0.2 ml dead volume stays in the syringe.

If you taper using syringes use the 5 ml syringe from 5 to 1 ml if possible. Below 1ml use the 1 ml syringe.

Never fill a syringe with another one because the dead volume messes up your calculation.

If you need let's say 4.6 ml you take the 5ml syringe and fill it to 4 ml.

Empty this in a small cup, leave the dead volume in the syringe (the liquid that stays in the tip).

Fill your 1 ml syringe to 0.6 ml mark and empty it in the same cup., Leave the dead volume in the syringe.

Drink your liquid and flush you cup with water and drink that too.

Flush your syringe with water and throw that away. Dry the tip of syringe with some toilet paper.

Don't drink de dead volume because you will be getting more than 4.6 ml...

Hope this is clear. It's important to do the same every day. That way you get the most accurate dosage.

I use a volumetric pipette for this (an old one from the lab) but this is not necessary. A syringe will do, I mean we are not talking about 1/1000 of a mg right? One day 5.45 mg and next day 5.46 will be ok. Such a small difference is negligible.

Good luck!!!

that's the way to handle it, just let time pass.

I hope your throat feels better soon. when I have a sore throat I put red pepper (!) in broth or soup and, after the initial burning sensation, it helps.

Currently taking Ramapril (blood pressure) 5 mg twice a day

Omeprazole 10 mg AM and 20 mg PM  (the taper has gone nowhere after the first cut)

Famotidine   once a day (and I still needs tums sometimes)

magnesium 200 mg at night

as of yesterday 2 fish oil capsules "EPA-DHA 1000"

off Lexapro as of 5/2018  - last dose had been 5 mg every other day for a couple years

highest dose had been 20 mg at which point I was diagnosed with Bipolar II, which went away when I cut the lexapro down to 15 mg.

I spent years on Paxil before Lexapro (can't remember dose), briefly on Effexor and Abilify and others I have forgotten. in fact, when I was diagnoses with BPII I was put on all kinds of things which made me feel so bad I stopped them cold turkey within maybe 3 or 4 weeks, thank goodness. since then I've known these pills were terrible and I weaned down the Lexapro with zero help or support over I'm not sure how many years.

Hi @JackieDecides @neroli

Thanks for popping by. I’ve actually got a cold now. I think I’ll be using the tissues all night😀. At least viruses are only temporary, they come n go. I can’t remember the last time I had a virus.

No, I didn’t get to spend time with my friends today Neroli, I was too sick. We will get together another time. There’s always another day. One of my friends has been living in Vanuatu and I haven’t seen her since she’s been back, can’t wait to see her.

Tomorrow will probably be another day in bed, I’m all set with my DVDs.😄 I always have a million distractions for all circumstances. Distractions! Distractions! Distractions! Still my motto.

Hope you’re both coping okay💚💚

Just wanted to say again I loooooooove my weighted blanket. It is one of the best things I’ve bought. If you want something comforting while going through withdrawals I would highly recommend it. I got the 7.7kg one off eBay.

Stuck in bed with a cold, been sneezing, blowing my nose, feeling sinusy (is that a word?) etc etc. I’m feeling pretty good emotionally though. I have lots of distractions to get me through the day.

I always have showers, yesterday I actually had a bath and it was glorious. I think there will be more baths in my future. It’s time for some more pampering and self care while going through withdrawals. I think most of us don’t make self care a priority. Okay, what else can I add to my self care list?😀

Take care everyone 💚

As always, I enjoyed the positivity that shines through your posts.

I’ve read about weighted blankets and how effective they can be for those who suffer from anxiety and insomnia. I saw that those struggling with PTSD can find sometimes find relief by using them. I might have to try one at some point!

I’m hoping the sinusy type symptoms pass soon (that’s definitely a word now).

Hi @eymen23

Thanks for your kind words. Thanks too for putting “sinusy” in the dictionary.🤣🤣 I’ve blown my nose so much today that if I wasn’t drinking water I think I’d be dehydrated.😁 I’m going to have a berry and coconut water smoothie now. Yummy!

Yes, the weighted blankets are fabulous. I love waking up in the morning and being snug in it. I don’t have cortisol spiked mornings now though. When I was on high doses of Seroquel I used to wake up in a fright every morning, the shaking in my body used to wake me up. I never wanted to go to bed as I hated the mornings.

The only thing to do when that happened was to distract myself as soon as I woke up. At one stage I would put concert DVDs on first thing in the morning. Anything to distract myself from the symptoms. They did settle eventually.

Anyway, it might be time to watch some DVDs now. 📺 I hate TV, I only watch DVDs, Netflix and YouTube. TV gives me a restless energy.

Okay, where are those tissues? 😄, Sending hugs🤗

I hope you get well soon, Carmie.

when I am sick I eat garlic because I think it cures everything but your mileage may vary!  I like to mince an entire clove and put it in scrambled eggs.

bonus: I will never be bitten by a vampire!

Hi @Miracle123 @JackieDecides

Thanks for dropping by. I’ve wanted to spend more time encouraging others on here today but I’m struggling to think, I still have the virus.

I’m actually in tears at the moment, nothing to do with withdrawals. I have a lot going on in my life that I won’t share here.

Jackie, yes, I’ve done the garlic thing too, I actually chopped up raw garlic and swallowed it. It helped heal an ear infection once. I got some coconut oil yesterday which is antifungal, antiviral and antibacterial. It’s helped in the past. If I had some at home earlier I could have killed the virus as soon as I felt a sore throat.

Sending lots of hugs through my tears🤗🤗🤗

Thanks for your messages @JackieDecides @neroli

I’m doing okay this evening. I spent the afternoon playing word games on my iPad. That kept me entertained. Felt like I was actually going to throw up, but didn’t. I might have taken a bit too much coconut oil to kill the virus.🥥😃Oops!  I’ve never had a problem with it before though, so it could have been the actual virus. Who knows.🤔

Was in tears because of things unrelated to withdrawals, as I said, but I guess having a virus, CFS, plus withdrawals (although they’re not too bad) didn’t help.😃 Maybe there were actually some neuro emotions involved.😭 I really need to get back into FasterEFT. It’s helped me so much in the past with emotions. We’ve got so much stuff in our subconscious mind, we need to break the emotions connected with events, people etc etc. It works extremely well, but I keep procrastinating. Self sabotage maybe?

I hope you’re both having a good weekend 💚💚

Hello Carmie

Good to hear that you were doing ok in the evening.

Faster EFT works for you, then?  I probably could take a look at it.

Wishing you all the best with the other stuff which is prompting strong emotions (tears), it's a challenge at times to deal with that on top of WD, CFS etc..

love to you

Hey Carmie,

I just wanted to stop by and say hi.

I hope you get over that virus soon!

I can sympathize, since I seem to have a cold virus that just won't go away.

Maybe I should try coconut oil or garlic or something too.

I may not know what you are dealing with exactly, but I can also sympathize

on 'other life events that are not shared'. Whatever you are experiencing, compared to mine

is probably not the same at all, but I we can still walk along together in our pains.

I keep meaning to try something like EFT, but I've just felt too overwhelmed for a while.

I was told once by a therapist years ago now, that I'm self-defeating. That I don't want to heal.

Thanks.  That's so helpful, dear therapist.

One of these days I'll just have to pick an approach and try something.

Sometimes just doing something, anything, helps you move forward,

just because you're doing something.

I think of you often when I sit in my rocking chair.

I feel like I still owe you a picture one of these days.

Keep on smiling.

And crying.

And smiling again.

Hugs,

Waterfall.

Anxiety since I was 5, and my Grandma died.  Depression since at least my early 20s.

Wellbutrin for unknown length of time in 2009  Guess: 6-9 months.  Cold Turkeyed in Dec 2009.

Citalopram 40mg end of 2014 until June 2017. Began within a few months after 4th child was born because I crashed.

Quit CT.  Had no major symptoms until Sept. Took Gaba from spring until near end of Nov 2017

Took St. John's Wort mixed with who knows what else from mid-summer to end of Sept..

Clonazepam 0.25 mg once a day since Sept. 18.  To stay sane.

Rough time since Sept. 18.  Tried to reinstate.  Repeatedly.  Failed.  Bad reaction.  Horrible cortisol spikes

I seem to react badly to anything I take right now.  Except Clonazepam.

End of December, forgot to take Clonazepam for a few days. Thought I could do without.

Appears I was wrong,  Jan. 1-2?   Trying to find the right way to deal with things.

Holding at 1/4 of 0.25mg pill morning and night.  Reinstated Jan. 5

Apr. 30, Got a scale.  Measuring roughly .25 mg of a .80mg pill that contains .25mg Clonazepam.

Hi @neroli @Rosetta @Waterfall

Thanks for dropping around to my neck of the woods🌲🌲🌲and for your kind words. I’m doing okay today. I’ve still got my cold so I missed out on my beach day with friends. We can’t go in the water at the moment anyway because the weather is a bit rough, there’s been a cyclone nearby. I saw photos of one of my friends at the bbq and the wind gave her a whole new hairstyle.😃 The surfers will be having the time of their lives though .🏄🏼‍♂️🏄🏻‍♀️

Yes, Waterfall, every time I think of you I do think of your rocking chair. I’m so glad it’s a comfort to you. We all need things in this journey that bring us comfort.

So glad you got to go for a holiday in the snow❄️❄️ Rosetta. I’d love to see some snow again as I haven’t seen since I was a teenager in Germany. There’s no snow in Queensland. I’m gathering people in America get sick of the snow, I keep seeing funny American memes about the snow.

Neroli, I really do find FasterEFT works amazingly. I really need to get around to doing it again. I keep saying that, okay I need to do more than say it, I actually have to do it again. On YouTube just put in 427 and FasterEFT and it will give you the basics, though there are many more videos.

Take care everyone💚💚💚

Just documenting: Today is day 19 since being back on the original tablet. I’ll give it another week and a half or so before I start tapering again. I’ll be going down by a fifth of ml (0.25mg) each month for five months. I’m continuing to use my 5ml syringe for now. Each ml of that syringe is split into five sections so that’s why I’m going down by a fifth each month.

Each drop will be just over 3%.

After 5 months I’ll be down from 7.50mg to 6.25mg. It will be great to finally see some forward movement after going backwards because of the compounded capsules.

It’s been another day in bed for me. My bed sure loves me! 🛏😁 I’ve just been watching The Inheritance, another period drama. It was based on Louise May Alcott’s writings. I love my period dramas.😍

Sending hugs to everyone 🤗🤗🤗

Hi @JackieDecides @Miracle123 @Sunnyday

Thanks for popping over to my thread.

Jackie, I’m still fighting my virus, but it’s getting better, thanks for asking. I’m just really brain dead, my brain fog is pretty bad at the moment. Struggling to read through the fog.

Miracle, thank you. I’ll let you know once I start tapering again, hopefully some time this month. February has gone bye byes, it’s March already. My, how time flies. I feel so sick at the moment, I’ll wait until I’m feeling a bit better before I taper, but I’m sure it won’t be too far off. I don’t have much strength at all. Yesterday morning was the first time I managed to get out in ages, but then in the afternoon it was back in bed. My friend wanted to take me makeup shopping and she bought me foundation, a lipstick, blush and concealer. All that also came with a gift pack of cleanser, moisturiser, face mask and eyeshadow. I never wear makeup, the only thing I ever use is nude by nature mineral powder. Time for some pampering.

Sunnyday, Yes, FasterEFT works really well. It’s certainly worth giving a try. I’m in bed at the moment, but I have my lovely weighted blanket to keep me comfortable. I love it so much, I should have bought it much sooner. I highly recommend it!

Take care everyone 💚💚💚

That it awesome. Weighted blankets are amazing.

There is actually a thread on this site about making one, which I did and highly recommend!

Sending you hugs ❤️

I totally agree Skyblue,

It really is one of the best things I’ve ever bought. How cool you made your own, did you use glass beads? When I first looked at them last year they were closer to $200, but now they’re around $100. I love waking up to my comfy blanket.

I haven’t had the strength to get up yet, it’s after 8.30am. It might be another day in bed for me, let’s see what the rest of the day brings. I want to do some crafts, I’ve got a diamond painting to finish of two cute owls. I’ve also been making bookmarks and watching period dramas, as well as playing word games on my iPad. I have a million things to distract myself.

Hope you’re doing okay, sending hugs🤗

What's a diamond painting? That's great you're making art.

It sounds like you also have a million strategies for distracting and making it through the symptoms. That's wonderful! I have a long list myself.

I filled the blanket pockets with rice -- and I have a cover over it that can be washed. Yes, people can use glass beads, poly pellets, etc. I used mine this afternoon and it really did the trick.

It's so funny that you're in "tomorrow" in Australia (or I'm in "yesterday"); even though I know that rationally, it's so funny to me.

Hi again Skyblue,

Diamond paintings are paintings on canvases that have numbers and letters on them. You stick the corresponding coloured resin beads on he numbers they go on. It is a really good distraction when you don’t have a lot of concentration. Kids could do it. There are so many beautiful pictures, I’ve done almost half a wall of them. I love the nature ones, so I’ve got animals, trees, flowers, beach scenes, a lake etc etc. They are really cheap on eBay, and they look really pretty on my “happy wall” in the bedroom.

I’m so glad you made yourself a weighted blanket and find it comforting too. You must have used a lot of rice to make it. You sound like you enjoy doing creative projects as well.

Sending hugs from tomorrow, I’m in the future as you say🤣🤣🤣🤣💚

Well I finally had a little brain power today and was able to interact a bit more on here today. My virus is slowly going too. I don’t have much strength, so am stuck in bed🛏, but I’m in good spirits. My brain is starting to fizzle now.

Today is day 25 since being back on my original tablet again. Still deciding when to taper, but it won’t be before next weekend as I have a concert on Saturday.🎼🎤🎸

Time to have lunch🥗🍗. Take care everyone 💚

Hello Carmie

Good to hear there is some improvement from the virus and that you are in good spirits.

You've managed to cross-taper quite well it seems, so you can choose when to taper now.  As you say, you have your concert on Saturday, so you'll not want to put that in potential jeopardy.

Have a good lunch, thinking of you.

And thanks for your support, you're a star.

Hi @neroli

Thanks for dropping by. Yes, I’m happy that my virus is slowly going. Lunch was yummy thanks, I had chicken and vegetables, and a coconut water and berry smoothie. We’ve got to get that nutrition into our bodies. I drink gallons of water too, I’ll never be dehydrated 🥤🥤🥤🥤😄. I love soda water too, I think it’s called club soda in America? Fizzy water. ( When I went to write soda water, autocorrect changed it to sofa water🛋🤣. Does that mean I can only drink it when I’m sitting on my couch?🤔)

Take care, Hope you’re coping okay💚

I googled that since I've never heard of it - the finished works look beautiful!

yes it does!! 😋

Hi Jackie,

Thanks for popping around. Yes, you certainly get some lovely diamond paintings. There really are a good distraction when you don’t have a lot of concentration.

I’ve been in bed pretty much all day again, except for getting up occasionally to do a bit of housework. Oh, and I did go to the shops very briefly as I needed to get something. I’m feeling very weak physically. It’s nearly 6pm and I’m wondering what to do for the evening. I still have my diamond painting of two owls to do. It’s so cute! The owls have big googly eyes👀 and it makes me smile when I look at them. I’ve got lots of DVDs to watch too, or I could play some word games, or read. Decisions! Decisions! Decisions!

Hope you’re coping okay 💚
