Thank you @Gridley @Rabe for your lovely messages. Will reply soon. Just trying to get through the day today even though I’m in a window as I have a debilitating illness. At the moment I’m cranking up the music videos. Loooove Mental As Anything, their music makes me smile. Have seen them twice in concert.

Went to the movies Friday night, saw Jurassic World, it was ok, but I didn’t love it. I really liked the Jurassic World before that. It was still a lovely night as I have the most amazing friends. It always breaks my heart when I read of people on here that don’t have supportive friends,

I hope everyone is coping as best as they can. More videos now🎼🎼🎼🎼

Hugs to everyone going through withdrawals. It really it the hardest thing we will survive. We will get there in the end though. Hang in there! Sending everyone the biggest hugs ever🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗

Great advice, Carmie.  We have best friends who are moving away to Spain and they want us to go with them to a spa 5 hours away for a farewell couple of days.  My wife is generally supportive but she's not going through it, and when I've expressed reservations , she says wait, because she will really miss them and doesn't understand the bizarre state I'm in.  I will have to say no but perhaps gradually and gently.

Hi Gridley,

Hope things work out. Yes, it can be hard to say no to things but I’ve had many years of experience due to illnesss. A lot of the time I say that I’ll them know on the day. Other times I just say no. If it’s something I really want to do I’ll say yes, but occasionally I’ve had to cancel. I go to a lot of concerts and you have to get the tickets for that particular day, so far haven’t had to cancel any concerts. I’ve tried to work my tapering around the major concerts like Coldplay, Imagine Dragons and the like.

With things in general I’d rather say: “ I’ll let you know on the day”, rather than say yes and then be too ill to do it and have to cancel.

In that book I quoted Cheryl said: “ Remember, if you’re going to disappoint people the right way , the idea is to tell the truth with respect and care, not manage their emotions. While you can’t control how someone feels or how they react, you can control how you feel and how you choose to make your point. Don’t measure your success by the response that you receive. Measure it by how you feel once your anxiety disappears. Do you know in your heart that you made the right decision? Do you feel relieved? Are you pleased with the way you handled saying no? Are you glad you did it? If the answer to these questions are yes, then you’ve done the right thing for everyone involved.”

Here’s to being balanced Gridley, and not saying yes to everything that comes along, but learning how to take care of ourselves as well, it’s a work in progress.

Hi Carmie.  The fear of fear you talked about on Rosetta's thread and how you stay in the moment is so true...struggling with that as I taper.  Just always thinking about what is to come in the net minutes.  What you said was helpful.  Thank you.

Thank you too for your posts here...I have a terrible time saying no or advocating for myself.  My daughter expects so much of me, rightly so, and each time I have a little window she thinks Im all better and asks for more help with her 1 year old and more help in general....I am an hour away.  I love them so much but dont want to put her daughter in a position where I am not doing well and am caring for her.  Very hard to be in this position when for my kids whole life I was the parent and guardian and helper and problem solver etc.  I am going to try to get that book,  THANK YOU!!!

Wanted to say that when I switched to compounded capsules I found the dose to be very steady,,,even with new rx's and changes in dose with the capsules...all has gone well so far.  I am getting some new capsules soon...instead of .1mg capsules  and talking so many Im going to get .7 and .2 mg capsules so can take one since am holding this med now...also cheaper this way!  I'll let you know if any problems!  Thinking about you!💜

Hi Rabe, thanks for your messages and the hugs,

Yes, it is so easy to always worry about what’s around the corner, I’ve certainly been there, but the fact is we can only live in the moment.

It can be hard to say no, but we have to take care of our health too. When we’ve given and given and given to someone and all of a sudden we say no to something the person doesn’t know what hit them, and may make you feel guilty. That’s their issue though, not yours.

I have a helper personality and I love helping people, but there has to be a balance. When you’re going through withdrawals your nervous system is so haywire that we have to do the best we can to calm it. When we overdo things it revs up the CNS even more.

Balance is the key to everything.

Hope you’re doing okay today💚

Hi Carmie...I am better realizing the balance thing as well.  On days when I feel better...or parts of days when I do...I tend to overdue...I go to the Y and do weights and walk and run errands etc etc and then I dont feel well the next day.  I need to better respect this whole process and the effects on the nervous system...it all just seems so science fictionish to me...like this cant possible be reality...but it is.  Take care!

Just journaling ,

Met up with a friend today and saw where we will be staying near the beach in August. Can’t wait for that holiday. I’m still trying to make lots of happy memories before I taper again at the end of August. I have a wedding to go too, as well as the Celine Dion concert and other happy things.

I’m chronically ill but try and find the things I’m grateful for in every day. I edited more of my photos. Again, I have to say if you love photography please take millions of photos while you’re able to because then when you’re in withdrawals or are sick it’s an amazing distraction.

I’ve got a lot of stress in my life other than withdrawals which I won’t be revealing here, but nevertheless I really try and look at the things that I am grateful for.

Wishing everyone the best in their withdrawal recovery, my heart goes out to each and every one of you💚

Another thought for the day in my journal here,

A friend just rang and we’re organising a concert in March next year. I think it’s soooo important to have things to look forward to. How I will feel then who knows, but the anticipation in itself brings joy to the heart. I’m sure there will be lots of concerts before then too, major music freak here.

We’re organising something at the end of the month too while I’m still in a window. Making lots of happy memories while I’m in a window. Going away this weekend too to stay with my sister down the Coast.

When I’m in a wave again I will have lots of things to look back on. I do take a million photos too, so even if me brain and memory forsake me I do have photos to look back on.

Time for crocheting and Netflix now💚

This is such good advice.  You can't control how other people react, but it is easy to feel guilty when you don't meet someone else's expectations.  In the end we have to do what's right for ourselves, not what other people want.

Hi Rabe,

Yes, the balance thing is extremely important. If we keep pushing ourselves to the limit our symptoms will rev up even more. I’m used to living a balanced life, have done it forever because of my illness. If I do too much I end up not being able to move at all.

I haven’t been able to read a lot lately, severe brain fog. I have been listening to books etc instead. It’s such a great thing when you struggle to read to have people on the Internet read to you😄. YouTube has lots of interesting things to listen to as well.

At the moment I’m listening to music. Just planned another concert in December with a friend yesterday, I have three booked so far, I’m sure there will be many more. Yep, definitely a music freak.

Going down the Coast to my sister’s place today. Catching a bus and a train. I looove trains, there is something really soothing about the noise and vibrations of trains. I should live on a train when withdrawals are bad😄

Thanks again for dropping by💚

Hi Songbird,

It can definitely make you feel guilty when you don’t meet other’s expectations. If you did everything others expected of you though, you would never have time to take care of yourself. Balance is needed and the more you say no to things that you don’t want to do or things that will take too much out of you the easier it becomes.

Hope you’re doing okay. Haven’t been able to read much lately but will check up on your thread soon.

Hi Rabe,

Every thing we do in life is a learning process, we are ALWAYS works in progress. I’m constantly changing how I do things.

Im sorry you find it hard to say no to your mum. It’s not that we have to say no to everything people ask of us, but we have to be balanced. If we’re not, we will make our symptoms worse. If there’s something we really don’t want to do or we find it would just be way too much for us as we are so sick then it’s a good idea to get used to saying no.

I think in that book Cheryl said to try saying no to one thing a day to get into the habit, it will be sooo uncomfortable if you’re not used to it. We have to take care of ourselves during withdrawals.

I do lots of things for people as I am a real people person, love people, but I do them within my limits. For example, I really wanted to visit a friend in hospital the other day but I was too ill (CFS) so I gave her husband something to give to her. We can always still be there for family and friends. My friend still knew I cared about her and was thinking of her. I rang her at the hospital as well.

I love the 80/20 principle. There is always an easier way to do something to get the same result. It’s 20 percent effort to get 80% of the result. In this case I got the same result as if I visited her. She knew I cared about her as I rang and gave her something through another party.

Glad you like trains too. Choo, Choo 🚞💚

Yes, please take photos when you are dong things you like or see things that bring a smile to your face. It’s lovely to look back on happy times, it makes you realise you will have more happy times in the future.

Ive even taken photos when I’ve felt totally anhedonic as I love nature photos, and editing them is something that is a great distraction for me.

Hi Rabe,

Sorry, I read it wrong. Have had bad brain fog. Must be hard going through withdrawals when you’ve got kids. I’ve never had children so I’m definitely no expert there. Maybe you can chat to other mums on here who know how hard it must be.

Im still struggling to read most of the time at the moment. Really struggling today, I have no brain at all. I had a nice day out in nature though, went to a dam, a creek and a cave and waterfall and took millions of photos. Nature is the best thing.

Decided to have a bit of fun with the photography too so I got some helium filled balloons and my sister and I took photos with them out in nature. I love being creative with photography and I absolutely love taking photos of nature.

We also bought some canvases and paints, though I bought a lot of paints down with me. Tomorrow we’re going to an art gallery and then we’ll probably do some painting in the afternoon.

Making lots of happy memories before I start tapering again, and I’ll have lots of photos to look back as my memory is really bad.

Im struggling to focus now so I better go.

Sending you big hugs Rabe 🤗🤗

Hi everyone,

My brain fog is still real bad, struggling to read much, but when I’m able to will read more of your threads.

Am still on holiday at my sister’s place. Had a fun afternoon, my sister, nephew and niece spent the afternoon painting. We had paint everywhere, we are a messy bunch when it comes to art.  I bought a bunch of canvases and we mixed and matched all kinds of colours.

Am still making lots of happy memories while I’m in a window.

Hope everyone is coping as best as they can 💚💚

Hi DMV,

I try really hard to look at the positives in my day. A lot of the time when brain fog is bad or I’m in a wave I too struggle to connect with anything, but I make myself do it anyway. Even when I’m totally anhedonic I still make myself do things.

Hope you’re doing okay, sending big hugs🤗🤗

Hi Rabe,

Just got home. Yes, I’m doing okay. Withdrawals aren’t too bad as I’m in a window but I’ve had severe brain fog from CFS. Haven’t been able to read much at all. And you are right, brain fog definitely doesn’t deter me from having fun. I’ve had the most amazing time with photography. I even got a photo of a swimming spider that was only discovered in Australia in 2016.

I’ve had soooo much laughter at my sister’s place. She’s just as nutty as me. We’ve been doing all sort of creative things. We were in hysterical laughter when she painted a love heart n then a black splash and then called it: I love the nite😂. We went to the art gallery too, and the beach, rainforest, creeks, a waterfall, a cafe that reminded me of Germany etc.

My sister is vegan and we had the most amazing meal at a vegan cafe. Yummy. I’m a big vegetable fan anyway. I eat really healthy anyway but I do eat meat. I think eating healthy is so important, especially in withdrawals.

I really, really, really need to make happy memories now so when I’m in a wave I have things to  look back on.

Hope you make happy happy memories when you’re in a window too n please take lots and lots of photos. It really helps when you’re in a wave 💚💚💚

Hope you are coping okay, se

Thank you for your kind words Rosetta,

It really does mean a lot. You were one of the first people to tell me to keep writing my thoughts on this forum and I will never forget that.

I haven’t been able to write or read much lately due to severe brain fog from CFS, but I do love writing.

Hope you are coping okay. It must be sooo hard for you having pretty much gone cold turkey. I’m so sorry, I’ve been there in the past when the doctors did that to me, and it was the most horrific experience. You are so brave and I can see how many people you encourage on this forum despite your pain.

Sending you the biggest hug ever🤗

Hi Tarheel,

Thanks for that encouragement. I really am positive by nature, but I can definitely tell you that I’m not always positive. Been in the depths of despair many times. I think because I’ve been blessed with an extremely creative brain, that is what keeps me going.

I could never ever be bored. I have a million and one ideas in my brain all the time. Creativity helps to distract me when waves are severe.

Boy, this is the hardest thing we will ever do. No one will ever understand withdrawals unless they experience it themselves.

Wishing you all all the best Tarheel 💚💚💚

Nature really is the best thing to soothe us, especially being anywhere near water. Had the best time in nature last weekend. The waterfall was absolutely magnificent as it crashed down into a cave. The creek I went to as well was magnificent, it was flowing and glistening. The creek was really glistening too. I can’t stop smiling when I think of how beautiful it was.

I’m back home but my soul craves to be in nature again. I’ve got such lovely images in my mind now of that weekend and also in photos.

I’m off to the zoo on Saturday if I’m well enough. Love Australia Zoo but haven’t been in ages. I am really looking forward to a day outdoors again. I’m always in my element in nature. It’s school holidays here so the Irwin’s will be doing the crocodile feeding. Those kids take after their father, they have his exuberance. Go Bindi! Actually Robert is a great photographer. I loooove photography.

I will I’ll be taking a million and one photos as I always do, so then when I’m in waves again I’ll have a fun time editing and having fun memories to look back on.

When I was at my sister’s place we painted as well. I’m painting canvases with encouraging saying on them and putting them in the bedroom so when I’m stuck in bed I can look at them. I seem to be doing all the backgrounds in hues of the ocean. Massive beach fan here. My niece was laughing at me as I said I get my inspiration from the ocean. So much laughter while we were painting.

My sister is as nutty as me and one of her paintings was a little love heart and then a splotch of black and she called it:  I love the nite. I was in absolute hysterics, we couldn’t stop laughing. Thinking about it now still makes me laugh.

We went to a vegan restaurant as my sister is vegan, the food was absolutely amazing. I’m definitely making great memories to look back on when I start tapering again.

I love being creative and sis and I had the best time taking photos in nature, I bought some helium balloons and I had a sign that said explore and we went snap, snap, snap! We were at a dam and this one lady was taking a photo of her husband, so I said I’d take a photo of both of them and my sister gave them the balloons. They were so happy, which made me happy.

Everywhere we went I offered to take photos for people so they could all be in the photo. Such fun!!! Happy memories to look back on.

Hang in there everyone n make lots of happy memories when you’re in windows. It really does help as it makes you realise that you will have more of those in the future and it will make you smile looking back at them.

Im so sorry you are all struggling so much💚💚💚💚💚

Hi Carmie, thank you for spreading your optimism to everyone on this board! It's inspiring how you find so much joy in life despite withdrawal and chronic conditions. I hope your pictures and memories of being in nature will help you in the days and weeks to come. I read a study awhile back that a 90 min walk in a park can mitigate depression symptoms, so nature=healing is backed up by science too! Best wishes, hope you are feeling better today ☺️

2008 10mg Paxil for social anxiety, became zombified with 20mg increase

2010 switched to 10mg Lexapro

2012 attempted doctor-recommended fast taper of Lexapro = bad withdrawal

2013 10% taper was successful, stayed off for years

8/2017 experiencing bad PMDD symptoms, started intermittent 5mg escitalopram (2wks of every month)

June 16 stopped pills at the start of my cycle as per usual

June 22 began to get sick, vertigo/balance issues/nausea/blurry, double vision/drunk feeling

June 26 reinstated 5mg escitalopram

July 3 ~4.5mg escitalopram (filing down 5mg)

July 7 back to 5mg

Awww! Thank you for your kind words Jbird,

Yes, being in nature is the best thing ever, so important when going through withdrawals, and when in windows it’s so important to enjoy nature to have happy memories to look back on. I’m not feeling too bad today so I’m off to Australia Zoo tomorrow. Can’t wait! Love animals. It’s a beautiful zoo, the animals have lots of room and they are all about conservation there and they treat injured animals. It has the best atmosphere.

Steve Irwin always had such exuberance and his kids are the same. It’s a really happy place and it will give me lots of opportunities for photography. Looove photography. I’m smiling already. It will give me happy memories to look back on when I start tapering again.

Next week im going to get the canvases out again and paint positive saying to put the n the bedroom so that when I’m bedbound I’ll have them to look at and inspire me. Painting is fun. We all made such a mess when I painting with my sis and her kids on the weekend. I always think that when you’re well enough do the things that will benefit you when your in waves.

Thank you you so much too @Tarheel109for your very kind message, it was much appreciated.💚

I’m sooo excited today, went to Australia Zoo n saw meerkats. Awww!! I could have watched them all day. I’m making happy memories while I’m in a window so I have something to look back on that will make me smile.

Terri, Bindi n Robert fed the crocodiles. They have such energy.

All the animals are beautiful, and I got an annual pass so hope to use it as much as possible. Maybe it will even help me to get through some of the waves if I distract myself with animals and nature.

They really are one of the best distractions.

Heres to everyone finding what helps to distract them.

One last thought for the day,

Please don’t let other people drag you down. You know those people that always try to make you feel bad about yourself. They say things in such a way to make you feel like nothing you do is right, just because they feel bad about themselves. They make you feel like when good things happen to you, and you find some joy in things etc that they need to crush it.

We have enough to deal with without this negativity. One person keeps doing this to me, she hates herself so she’s always trying to make me feel bad too.

Time to limit such associations.

I have a ton of friends i have trouble keeping up with as it is, it’s time to limit association with those that drag you down. Withdrawals are hard enough. We don’t need this negativity.

Hang in there everyone 💚

Hi everyone,

I bought Baylissa Frederick’s book: “Recovery And Renewal, Your Essential Guide To Overcoming Dependency And Withdrawals From Sleeping Pills, Other Benzodiazepine Tranquillers and Antidepressants.”

I haven’t been able to read much of it yet because of severe brain fog. I was just reading this though about distractions, it was really good, and I quote:

” Finding a healthy distraction is a good coping technique that can help to pass the time. A distraction in the context of coping is anything you do to shift or move your attention away from discomfort, pain, or other strong unpleasant feelings. When in withdraw it is common to ruminate about symptoms and to have ‘what if’ thoughts that conjure up imminent catastrophes and misfortune.

This can increase stress and intensify symptoms , causing you to feel worse. Furthermore, if you are having intrusive, obsessive thoughts, neurological pain and other symptoms that are distressing, they can become all consuming. The use of distractions can break that momentum and can be effective in changing focus so you think about other things.

Distractions are not used to avoid or escape the feeling or symptom. Do it not to struggle against or resist whatever is happening, but to pass the time in as pleasant a way as possible. Observe what is happening, as they come into your awareness, without judging whatever comes as being good or bad, and gently take your attention back to your activity. Here are some good ideas for distraction:

1. Visit an online ‘Good News” channel for positive news.

2. Go for a walk in nature or sit in a park or by a lake or a seaside.

3.Listen to your favourite music.

4. Play a game like scrabble or candy crush.

5. Have a movie mania day and watch feel good movies all day.

6. If your cognition permits read a good book or a magazine.

7. Start a journal or make notes that could evolve into a best seller.

8. Solve an absorbing puzzle like Suduko or an interesting jigsaw.

9. Explore adult colouring books.

10. Get a collection of audiobooks.

11. Try watercolour painting.

12. Take up a card such as card making, crocheting or knitting.

13. If your symptoms permit try gardening. Teach yourself to play a musical instrument. “

It’s funny how we are so careful about every little thing in withdrawals.

At the end of August I’m going to use a 7.5mg compounded tablet and do water titration with that in a large amount of water. I’m at 7.5mg now by water titrating  a 25mg tablet.

I see a lot of people have problems when changing from tablet form to water titration but I’ve been doing it for years now. The thing I’m pondering now is that will it make a difference going from tablet to a compounded capsule?

Firstly there probably will be a bit of a discrepancy from the tablet to the capsule because different syringes measure differently which I found out by experience. So what I may be taking now by water titration may not be exactly 7.5mg.

What I’m going to do when I get the capsule is not taper straight away but see how I go with it for a while and if I have no problems I will continue the tapering.

Now, I know this question may sound stupid but if when I’m taking the capsule should I put it into the same large amount of water  that I will be using for my titration from then on or just swallow the capsule with water until I start the tapering?

I think i might just mix it with the water because that way it’s still water titration. I’ll keep things on an even keel

Any input welcome💚💚

I love a section of the book “Recovery and Renewal” talking about making a “soothe box” as a tool to help while going through withdrawals.

It mentions to put in things like your favourite success stories, inspirational quotes, a list of distractions that help you., funny dvds you love, photos n cards that make you happy, funny stories found online or in magazines or newpapers.

Put it healthy snacks in the box and write reassuring notes that you will recover one day,

Buy a pretty box or make it pretty, then on those days you’re not coping well at all relax on the couch n take out the box for extra nurturing.

You could also also put your favourite music in there, something soothing to touch like a soft little blanket or a soft toy. Some nice fragrance, maybe a book with beautiful paintings or pictures that you love. The list is endless.

Now to find a box😀💚

What a lovely idea!  I don't have a soothe box but I do have a kind of treasure box I created as an idea from some self-help book I read (can't remember which one now) that contains things like gifts from family members.  I wonder what size box you'd need to fit in all those books and DVDs?  Might have to be quite big I guess.

2001–2002 paroxetine

2003  citalopram

2004-2008  paroxetine (various failed tapers)
2008  paroxetine slow taper down to

2016  Aug off paroxetine
2016  citalopram May 20mg  Oct 15mg … slow taper down

Hi Songbird,

It would have to be quite a big box. I’m going to find a pretty one and make my soothe box. I’m going to find some lovely books with pics in them that I really love and make me smile. I’ve been sticking things on my bedroom wall too that I can look at that make me smile. I just added the map from Australia Zoo as I had an amazing day there.

I also added a sign that I painted that says Explore. I’m curious by nature and don’t like monotony so I’m always exploring new ideas and places. Looking at the sign will help me remember that even when I’m in severe waves and can’t do as much I’m still an explorer.  I should call my wall a soothe wall😂 as well.

Im off to a wedding tomorrow, the reception is in a beautiful park by the river so I’ll be in my element. I love nature, I always crave to be in nature, it’s good for the soul. I think in withdrawals it’s a good idea to spend time in nature too, that’s one thing I would really recommend.

sending hugs your way🤗

Hi everyone, hope you’re all coping as best you can. I’ve got brain fog so can’t write much.

I’m still making happy memories while in a window. Went to a wedding Friday, it was lovely n the reception was in a park near the water. Beautiful! All the kids had lots of room to run around and I’m happiest in nature so had a ball. Caught up with friends I hadn’t seen for a while too.

Im hoping this next week to buy a big box n pretty it up for my ‘soothe box’ or I’ll buy one that’s already pretty. I’ve also got a ‘soothe wall’ in my bedroom that I can look at. I bought two more signs yesterday that I still have to paint, one says Create and the other says Believe. The one I’ve already got on my wall says Explore. I’m a creative soul at heart n an explorer, Im a free spirit and I love nature.

I also got lots of wool to crochet. If you can crochet or knit, it really is one of the best distractions.

Oh hi Carmie I dont know if I am doing well. I am still going in one circle. I am still trying if the complaint with respect to Lyrica can not be submitted, but my success is very minimal, I must say. I took my children to my previous aupair today because my daughter is still ill and I was already afraid that they would kick me out of the work. Even if I dont know if I want to work, I would the most like to stay at home and paint. It is my love. I saw you also love art. I am a naive painter, I still make mistakes. But I really love it. I would be happy to see what you do but I know that it is a public platform and maybe showing your paintings here you wouldnt like.
