Administrator Altostrata Posted October 20, 2019 Administrator Share Posted October 20, 2019 Interactions between buproprion and other antidepressants are very well-known in the literature -- though not by doctors. Wellbutrin being an appetite suppressant is also very well known. I would change the Wellbutrin schedule first -- do not change two drugs at the same time. I'd move the Wellbutrin earlier by one hour each day. Please post daily notes while you make drug changes. This is not medical advice. I haven't had Internet all day, so I apologize for my late response. I wouldn't move both the Celexa and the Wellbutrin. If you move the Wellbutrin, do it by moving it one hour earlier per day until you reach the point in the morning when you want to take it. Then I'd wait around a few days to let that settle and see how you do. If all is okay, I think you could start tapering the Wellbutrin. I don't know what rate to suggest. You had reactions with the 2 1/2% Brassmonkey slide but you later said you might have been overreacting. If you're comfortable trying that again, that would be a conservative taper. If you want to go even slower, you could do 5% per month. It's a push-pull between wanting to get off the med which is causing a lot of side effects vs. not wanting to experience too much withdrawal Another factor to consider is that side effects generally lessen the lower your dose. Giulietta
Dear AuntieBea, How are you? I have been thinking of you as I saw some of the interactions between you, Alto and Gridley. I am so glad you got yourself a weighted blanket and that it helps you sleep! It is one of the best purchases I made. Did you get a cover for it as well? I purchased one to protect the blanket (I can't imagine cleaning it). It took me about 40 minutes to get the blanket in it... 🤣 I think it has 12 or 16 ties....The black out eye mask helps me with insomnia, too. I wish I had known about these things years ago. 7 hours ago, AuntieBea said: But the upheaval in this case was all about old abandonment issues which are also asking to be healed at this point in my life...so it seems to be all part of the package for me This is so positive - that you associated / understood the cause of emotional turmoil and that you are able to work on it. Many of us (most? several?) are working on developing skills to overcome anxiety, panic, etc. andtakes time, commitment and patience. Maybe healing your abandonment issuees will need the same. I am re-learning cognitive bvehavioral therapy techniques - it is a huge process to make negative thoughts and feelings adaptive and positive ones. 7 hours ago, AuntieBea said: I have had so many sleepless nights for the last six months that there’s anxiety just anticipating going to bed. AuntieBea
@Gridley Yes, I will do that first for a few days to see how it affects me. And I will post notes about it. I guess what I was trying to clarify is whether or not moving the Celexa to the evening was still something to shoot for (Alto mentioned it previously as a possibility), or whether it would be better to go straight into tapering the Wellbutrin. I thought maybe there was some value to knowing how the Celexa affects me separate from the Wellbutrin, and visa versa. But maybe that’s just jumping the gun for now...I’ll just keep it simple and stay focused on the Wellbutrin for the moment.... Yes, I plan to start tapering with the tablet instead of the doing a crossover. It’s easy enough for me to weigh the dose, although at the lower end of the taper I may decide to switch over if weighing becomes problematic. I think I read somewhere though that you still weigh your doses even at the lower end...? Thanks Gridley. It’s quite alright about the internet. It’s amazing how simple life becomes when it shuts down. Although I count on it so much at this point for getting through life that “simple” can get pretty complicated when it does. Anyway, glad to know you’re back on line! I hope you you have a good day! As I explained before, moving the Celexa later might have unintended consequences. I suggested taking the Welllbutrin earlier because the risks are less. We've been talking about reducing Wellbutrin since you started this Intro topic. You've acknowledged several times that you are probably getting serious adverse effects from Wellbutrin. Why are you hesitating on taking steps to 1) possibly reduce adverse effects; 2) reduce and finally go off Wellbutrin? This is not medical advice. AuntieBea
@Altostrata There was confusion on my part because all along I have taken the Celexa and Wellbutrin together usually around 10:00 AM. Sometimes earlier, sometimes later. This morning I moved the Wellbutrin to 9:00 AM and took the Celexa at 10:30. It doesn’t seem like much of a change from taking them together at around 10:00, but maybe that much could make a difference as far as reducing adverse effects. I should have mentioned this confusion of mine in the first place. I did not entirely understand that moving the Wellbutrin earlier was intended as an alternative to taking the Celexa later. It is completely my misunderstanding. So should I stay with 9:00 for the Wellbutrin and 10:30 for the Celexa? Or maybe move the Wellbutrin even earlier? I am not hesitant to go ahead with the taper. I would like to start it ASAP. I appreciate that you are trying to guide me through this so that I can regain my health. 1991: Start Prozac / 1993: Stop Prozac / 1995: Restart Prozac 1997: Add Wellbutrin / 2002: CT Prozac & Wellbutrin 2004-2017: Start 10mg Celexa & 150mg Wellbutrin 2007: Add Ativan / 2009: Stop Ativan, start Klonopin & Seroquel 2012-2013: Taper off Klonopin & Seroquel Aug 2017: Start tapering 10mg Celexa & 150mg Wellbutrin Apr 2018: 6.5mg Celexa & 100mg Wellbutrin Apr 2019: 5.4mg Celexa & 100mg Wellbutrin Nov 2019: Start tapering Wellbutrin Sept 2020: 5.4mg Celexa & 50mg Wellbutrin June 5, 2021: 5.4mg Celexa & 32mg Wellbutrin Dec 2021: 5.2mg Celexa & 30mg Wellbutrin Link to comment

The Brassmonkey Slide does seem like a good middle of the road place to start the taper, but the push-pull that you mention related to my vision problem has me wishing I could step it up faster. Administrator Altostrata Posted October 24, 2019 Administrator Share Posted October 24, 2019 AB, it looks to me like you are experiencing adverse effects from Wellbutrin, these get worse when you add Celexa -- consistent with the drug interaction profile -- and diminish as the Wellbutrin wears off later in the day. This is Wellbutrin XL, correct? Please update your signature. Once you get your drug schedule settled, I would taper Wellbutrin, as Gridley suggested, maintaining your Celexa dosage while you do this. This is not medical advice. Administrator Altostrata Posted October 24, 2019 Administrator Share Posted October 24, 2019 https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/books/NBK470212/ Quote The onset of therapeutic effect of bupropion usually occurs in the second week of taking the medication. The time to peak serum concentration is 2 hours for immediate release, 3 hours for sustained release, and 5 hours for extended release. The duration of action is 1 to 2 days. .... The half-life of bupropion is 3 to 4 hours distribution, but the half-life extends to about 21 hours when dosed chronically. You appear to be having an adverse reaction to buproprion, which lasts throughout the day. Once you get your schedule set, if I were you, I'd start to taper it.
