Hi Chessie Cat, yes that is the website I came across whilst trying to self diagnose my skin rash after wasting a year on inconclusive skin biopsies. I kept thinking no way is this it. But the website recommended getting a USB microscope which I thought could maybe help to diagnose what is going on. I bought one for £12 and got a huge shock! I was able to take photos of the fibers in the skin.

Sorry....late posting. It was still in the box.

So 2 nights ago I reduced the Risperidone another 10℅.  That's the 3rd 10% drop from 1mg.  So far so good.  It has actually been 3 months since the last drop!  Its gone very quick.  There just wasn't a good time with all my other problems.  I have Christmas sorted out pretty much now so my anxiety is OK at the moment so it is a good time for it.

Hi Glosmum. Lovely too hear from you, and Thanks.

I've not noticed anything amiss yet with this last reduction much like the last. I will wait a few weeks till after Christmas and then do another 10℅ reduction. I will be glad to reach 0.5 mg. I have lots of 0.5mg pills. I won't have to cut any up each night for a while.  The scales I bought off eBay for around £12 have been fantastic though so far. I can definitely say it is easy to measure, and quite often I cut the tablet dead on the weight I want.

HI Sunnylou, So glad that the last reduction is going well!  I can relate to wanting to get to a certain number :)  I know the wise one's on here remind us that it is "not a race" but i think it is inherent in our human spirit to 'keep track' of our progress....no matter what we are progressing towards.  I know for Glo I have spent many sleepless nights over the last 2 years just reviewing her progress and thinking about getting to certain points on the syringe.  Some of the ones that come to mind that i looked forward to reaching were; getting below 1.0 mg, getting to .75mg and getting under .50 mg.  We also are now under .25mg which is the smallest pill made for risperidone.  Getting under that was pretty awesome!

Good work with measuring your cuts dead on!!  whoo hoo let's celebrate whatever we can :) You are doing a great job sunnylou and i look forward to hearing more about your progress.   glosmom

Glosmom, sunnylou,

I am so inspired by your progress.  I'm at 0.653 mg and am definitely enjoying seeing the numbers go down!  I reduced by 5% in October and 6% in November and am currently doing a 7.5% reduction over the month of December.  Just trying to remember that good things come to those who wait!

Careful prayer Glosmum,

It is really encouraging hearing your taper journeys. Getting to under 0.25 is amazing. Glad you are really getting somewhere with it. Careful prayer we are about the same dosage.

I have had 3 different size tablets during this but I managed to get round it by making 3 columns, and marking down 10℅ reductions for each size tablet.  Now no matter which tablets I receive, I can tell straight away the correct weight. I cross each 10℅ reduction off so I know where I am.

The most striking side effect of taking Risperidone I have had is that it has killed my libido. It has caused female impotence. I have been happily married for 26 years, and am 46 so I'm sure this is not a good thing to happen. Its not the be all, and end all its just something I have only just realised, and am really surprised I have only just realised. I have been on it since July 2017, 17 months, and have been pretty much like it since then.

Wow, sunnylou, you really have a great system worked out for a successful taper. Good work!   We have been using liquid risperidone for glo's taper and that has worked well but you should be proud of how you have mastered the tapering of pills.  I am so very sorry to hear about how risperidone has impacted you.  Glo has suffered with so many issues it would take days to write them all down.  I do see her improving in some of them as we have gotten lower on her taper so I will send positive thoughts your way that as you get lower and lower on your tapering you might see some improvement.

Much appreciation and warmest regards to both you and careful prayer for lending comforting support and a listening 'ear' during this process!  I am very grateful!

So I am tapering off Risperidone very slowly, according to the Ashton Manual now.  Another taper I truly did not need. I spent over 4 years withdrawing from Diazepam 10mg using the same method.  I could not care a less about the Morgellons now. Meanwhile my rash has been completely forgotten about by Dermatology. Intact I have not heard anything from them. I have just been stuck on an anti psychotic medication, prescribed not for being delusional, and I have now shut up.

I'm glad the Dermatology Specialist has not contacted me as if I did voice my concerns of cessation she might stop the script as she told me you could literally just stop taking Risperidone. So I must plod on and get off it and hope she keeps forgetting me or else I will lie and go along with I am still taking it,

Hi Glosmum, Thanks, and I hope all is going well with Glo

Hi Careful prayer, hope you're feeling OK

I have made a 10% reduction again tonight. Its 7.5 weeks since the last reduction so I'm feeling confident that the timing is right. To say I started tapering Aprilish time last year with the thoughts that in the July 2018 I would have been on Risperidone a year.  I stupidly thought I could taper another medication at the same time and it didn't go well. I hit rock bottom physically. So this July will mark 2 years of being on it. I really want to reach half way before then, and I want this to be over by next Christmas as long as it fits in with the safe tapering method that is.

Glad to hear you are doing better!  I started tapering in April 2018, too.  By the way, you are not alone with the intimacy issue... since tapering I am starting to enjoy intimacy in my relationship more and more these days :).

Thanks Glosmum!

Careful prayer our situation is so similar. Crikey, this damn Risperidone kills the libido.  It is reassuring that you have had improvments.

Thinking of April coming round again  has really motivated me.  I have felt alright since the reduction. Its been a week so far. I have had a bit of burning in flashes on upper torso but it came, and went pretty quickly. I've been very productive also this week, glossing the woodwork in the hallway/landing. Its quite a job but I will be doing it bit by bit, and not over doing it. When I break the tablet up now its getting really close to half way. ☺ At this stage I feel that getting off R is possible.

  • 3 weeks later...

It has been 4 weeks tomorrow since I reduced the Risperidone. Everything has been fine. I think I have had burning feelings when anxious for a long time so I'm not going to read into it too much if it happens. It hasn't happened very much recently, and there is not any other problems with the taper so far so I am ready to reduce again. The piece of 1mg tablet is very near to half now. There are many nights I cut it bang on like last night which always amuses me. So the tablet weight I am on so far is 0.065. It will be 0.058 next.

I have so far had to deal with 3 different makes of tablets all different weights. I therefore wrote 3 columns starting with each pills weight. I then worked downwards in each column 10% deductions all the way down to zero. I always underline across all the columns where I am down to so that if I have to switch brands again I know exactly where I am ☺.

So looking forward to getting this medication off my list.

So it is now another month gone by. I am fine. The only problems I have are personal ones, and as far as I can tell no signs of withdrawals. I therefore need to plod on. I will be reducing again by 10%. My tablet weight is currently 0.058 so I will be going to 0.52. I just hope the rest of the taper goes as well. In July I will have been on this drug 2 years. But at least I will be on about just over 1/4 of a milligram. I would love to be off it by Christmas but I will not rush in fear of bad withdrawals. If it takes longer then so be it.

I didn't do the last drop in the end. I had a stream of events including a big decorating job that stalled my taper progress. I have been quite productive so all is fine. I will re commence soon. I picked up our new edition to thee family today. I think she's adorable. She is bringing so much happiness already!💕

Thankyou for your kind words Carmine, Glosmum, and Melissa. Hope you are all well.

I am back at the taper thank goodness. I reduced the Risperidone a week ago but by about a 5% drop. All I know is it weighed 0.58 and I dropped to 0.54. That is a little over half the tablet. Not quite at 0.5mg yet. Next month In July it will be 2 years on this medication. I am therefore enthusiastic to keep going. I am finding it hard to sit still. Like today, I have been on my feet from 7.15am to 6.15pm. Going from one job to the next. I wonder if it is withdrawal or wether I just feel better. Some things are hard to work out.

It is at this point I should mention that my Women's Health Physio advised me that I actually haven't got a prolapse. Mistakes are made apparently, and she says that I have a overly tight pelvic floor. My muscles are too tight. I have to exercise to relax and lengthen them. I have to start walking up to an hour a day. Any strange sensations I have now I just think....your fine, no prolapse, nothing is falling! I am elated its not though for 8 months I thought it was.

I feel a lot better in myself for reducing the Risperidone. I feel the mask like face has gone. I had read online this can happen and instantly recognised it. That thought alone keeps me motivated. I have recently got a lot to distract me day to day. This is helping a lot. I don't feel strong enough to start another decorating project yet. I will know this reduction has gone well when I start painting again. I have completed the stairs, and hallway. I have 3 bedrooms, bathroom, and eventually the living room still to do. I imagine it will take me a year to do it so that will probably be during the whole remainder of the taper. I'm not finding Risperidone harder to withdraw from than Diazepam so that's good. I'm feeling poisitive at the moment.
