I'll drop to 3.2mg tomorrow and will hold that until mid January, when I'll do another round of three 0.1mg drops. These multiple small drops have worked really well for me and have been imperceptible.

It's amazing to have got to this point. Today I'm down 96.7 mg from 100 (to 3.3mg); tomorrow it will be 96.8mg down (to 3.2mg). Maybe I could have done it faster, maybe not. Who knows. I've needed the holds I've done for various reasons - for example if work is going to be going through a stressful period, it didn't make sense to drop and risk destabilization.

The end is in sight - I think I'll still be doing 10% monthly all through 2020 and that will take me, ideally, to 1mg toward the end of 2020. I'll then need to think on how I'll do the last 1mg. I think it's reasonable to expect do the last 1mg in 0.1mg increments but I've got time to think about that.

2005 St John's Wort / 2006-2012 Lexapro 20mg, 2 failed attempts to stop, tapered over 4.5 months in early 2012

January 2013 started Sertraline, over time worked up to 100mg

July 2014 Sertraline dropped from 100mg to 75mg, held for six months, slower tapering until 2019 22 Dec 3.2mg

2020 Sertraline 19 Jan 3.1mg, 26 Jan 3.0mg; 1 Mar 2.9, 7 Mar 2.8, May (some drops here) 24 May 2.5, May 29 2.4, June 21 2.3, June 28 2.2mg,  July 4 2.1mg, July 24 (or maybe a bit before) 2mg, early Nov switched to home made suspension; 29 Nov 1.8mg; approx 25 Dec 1.6mg)

2021 Some time in about Jan/Feb realised probably on more like 1.8mg and poss mixing error in making suspension; doses after 10 Feb accurate; 10 Feb 1.6mg; 7 Mar 1.4, continued monthly

10% drops until 1mg, then dropped 0.1mg monthly.

May 2022,0.1mg, now dropping 0.01mg per week

This is awesome Bubbles. You have done soooo well. You’re a real inspiration.

Started Citalopram in 2005 (aged 15) for apparent "OCD" - 60mg

July 2015 attempted 2 x 10% + cuts 4 weeks apart. WD symptoms intense at times. Need to slow down.

November 2016 - Resumed taper. 1.25 - 1.5% decrease weekly approx.

44.5mg November 2016. Jan 2017 42.5 mg. March 2017 40 mg. June 2017 37mg. September 2018 22mg. Nov 2018 Holding at 22mg to stabilise from moderate wave. January 2020 - Holding, mostly feeling fine, but still having some waves at times.

February 2020 - Resumed taper , 1.5% reduction weekly/every two weeks.

Thanks Nick. Not off yet, but even if I were to stop now I've done a huge amount of reduce my drug/side effect burden, so that's good in itself.

Hope you are doing well.

Today I will drop to 3.1mg. I'll do a further 0.1mg drop in another week and will probably then hold for two weeks.

I dropped to 3.0mg on 26 Jan and have been holding. Am a bit anxious at the moment, so probably not a good time to drop again just yet.

Measured out my meds today for the next week and discover that last week I missed one thyroid dose (about 1/3 of the daily intake and probably not the end of the world) and one day of my Sertraline. The missing Sertraline might be contributing to the anxiety I've had this week. It's frustrating at such a low dose to be experiencing this but seems to be expected at this point more than at higher doses. Shows that there are no shortcuts.

Wasn't going to drop while feeling iffy but will make sure I'm not missing any in future. In the last I've used an app on my phone and will go back to that for the reminders.

I'm feeling okay again now, I think. I'm planning to drop to 2.9mg on Sunday when it's next time to start my weekly pillbox. 10% of my current dose is 0.3mg, so I guess that would look like this:

Today 3mg

Sunday 1 Mar 2.9mg

Sunday 8 Mar 2.8mg

Sunday 15 Mar 2.7mg

Next round would start 29 Mar at the earliest (two weeks hold at the lowest dose). I rarely get started on the next round of drops straight away, but I'm keen to get a bit lower in my dose over the next few months so will try. I could alternatively go to 2.7 on Sunday but I'm a bit wary of that as I'm finding this stage of the taper a bit challenging.

So I'm down to 2.8mg (a few days ago). I'll drop again next Sunday to 2.7 and then hold for a week or two. Or longer, you know me. :)

I've ordered Ora-Plus and got some tablets to make my own suspension. I've actually got a reasonable number of capsules currently so this is probably a bit premature, but the tablets have a long use by date so I'll probably just sit on this idea and ponder it all for a bit. It'll take a few weeks for my order to arrive anyway.

I'm going to sit on 2.8mg for now. I'm a bit anxious at the moment about the corona virus, so I'm going to call this month's reduction done. It's less than 10% but I'm not going to risk another microdrop. I'm also going to hold on the suspension taper for a while - the tablets will keep, and the Ora-Plus hasn't even arrived yet. I feel like I should be on an even keel before I change things around.

As always, my taper seems to be more holding than anything else.

Next drop should be on 29 March down to 2.5mg (10% is down to 2.52mg but I can't do that so either 2.6 or 2.5) and then a hold. Likely I'll stop at 2.6 knowing me, but if I'm feeling good I could go to 2.5 and hold a bit longer. When I get to doing the solution taper it will be easier to get these finer dose adjustments that will be needed.

I'm feeling very anxious and I don't want to be unwell during a pandemic, so I think it best to nip it in the bud.

I'm going to updose to 3mg today - a 0.2mg increase back to where I was a few weeks ago. I haven't previously had any success with updosing, but this is little and early so hopefully it is okay. When I've tried it in the past I've chased the updosing all the way back up, something I'm obviously keen to avoid, but that was my escitalopram taper which was more rapid. Once I feel well again, I'll hold for several months, maybe even until this whole thing is gone.

Edit: I was on 3mg at the end of Feb, I dropped 0.1mg on 1 March. Today is the 19th, where I am.

It's about 15/16 hours after I took it last night so I'm even wondering about taking 0.2mg right now, and then the whole 3mg in 9 hours at bedtime. If a mod sees this soon, perhaps they could comment. Is it a bad idea?

It's rather late, I couldn't sleep so I got up to do some work and its now 1am and I forgot last night's tablets. When I take them, however, it will be five days at the updose. I will judge tomorrow but I think I'll updose a titch more.

My workplace has closed and I can't work from home so I'm not working for the duration of the pandemic, or until they decide it's safe to reopen. I agree with the decision, in fact I'm relieved. I have things to do at home, so I will be able to keep myself busy for a while. Strange times, quite surreal.

I didn't go up, so I'm still on 3mg. I'm sort of okay, I'm stressed but these are stressful times so I don't think it's anything other than a normal reaction.

I have reconsidered the 'stay at this dose for the duration' idea that I had. I'll stay at 3mg this week and try again.

Feeling better now. I think it was mostly anxiety about the current world situation (ie, a totally normal response!). I sat on 3mg again for 2 weeks and last night I dropped to 2.9mg. I'll stay on that for 2 weeks and evaluate.

Glad you are doing well :) Keep it up you will get there!

I follow The Plant Paradox lifestyle by Dr.Gundry. This lifestyle has given me my life back and I feel better than I have ever felt in my life. It has enabled me to finally get off of this medication and truly live my life. Nutrition is the key to health!!!!!

2008 to 2019  - 20 mg Paroxetine

Attempted 2 CT's around the 5-6 year mark. Were absolutely terrible and reinstated. Was never explained by the doctor the seriousness of the short half life of this drug.

2017 - Attempted a tapered discontinuation of this drug and reinstated after being unsuccessful.

2019 - Feb. 12 - After a three month taper I am off of paroxetine. The 3 months were terrible, awful withdrawal feelings. I followed the doctors guidelines for the reduction of this drug and now know it was way too fast.
2019 - Oct. 12 - 8 months off paroxetine. 75% improvement since coming off the drug. Definitely have had tons of challenges along the way. Let’s go!!!!

2021 - Feb. 12 - 24 months off paroxetine. I have minor challenges now. Tinnitus/Headaches are still around but are reduced by a massive amount.

It’s been a constant incline of feeling better! I did have a blip of hard headaches on the weekend. They are gone now. I just crushed 10 mins on the bicycle, 200 pushups, 150 sit-ups and 150 squats!

Well done @Cocopuffz17!!  I have been gardening today, making my muscles ache, but aching in a good way! And getting some vitamin D, which has to be a good thing.

It's been three weeks on 2.9mg and today is the day to count out tomorrow's dose. I'm going to do a 10% drop this month, and I'm going to do a 0.1mg drop tomorrow, then another one about 5 days after that and again after that to be three 0.1mg drops over about 14 days, and then holding for two weeks. I'm hopeful that I'll cope with the 10% drop this month.

I'm generally feeling okay, I'm at home a lot these days pottering and gardening, and I feel as though this is the right time.

I've been reading brassmonkey's endgame taper thread and I think (brassmonkey is rewriting a section and I'm not able to weigh tablets yet) it looks like this:

Current      2.9mg

Month 1     2.6

Month 2     2.3

Month 3     2.1

Month 4     1.9

Month 5     1.7

Month 6     1.5

Month 7     1.4

Month 8     1.2

Month 9     1.1

Month 10   1

Then, it looks like I can start to do somewhat larger drops, something like this:

Month 11   0.75

Month 12.5 (a 6 week hold) 0.5

Month 14   0.25

Month 15.5   zero

It sounds shockingly long compared to the average taper (especially considering I'm at 3-6% of a regular dose and have been tapering for nearly six years), but the end is in sight.

It's better to plod along and not trip yourself up so close to the end.  My taper will end up being just over 5.5 years (about mid 2021).

We've both managed to be patient.  Not long to go now.  I'm starting to think about what I will do/buy to celebrate being off.  It's a huge achievement and I think it should be recognised in some way.

Yes, I just wonder how anyone gets off and stays off when they do it so much faster, though realistically I only know a couple who managed. I'll be at 7 and a bit years of taper. Yes, I could have gone faster but I've prioritised feeling okay, so it is what it is. We're due to be off at similar times, all going well.

Plodding along, today is the first 2.8mg.

Good on you Bubbles.  Keep going. End is in sight.

It can be nerve racking the whole tappering process.

But you will get there in the end. Take care.

DRUG HISTORY:

November 2013- Zoloft, ( Bad reaction).

January 2014 - March 2014 Seroquel.( Quit Cold Turkey).

January2014- Mirtazapine, I was taking 15mg at one stage, reduced to 7.5mg, Pgad reactions to Mirtazapine. Doctor kept increasing it to 37.5mg, until July 2014. No improvement, experiencing panic attacks, on 37.5 mg. I had enough by October 2014. Began tapering.

October 2014- Started tapering Mirtazapine from 37.5mg.

September 2015- Down to 4mg of Mirtazapine. Crashed.

September 16th- Up dosed to 5mg. Held this dose for almost 5 months. Stabilised.

February 2016- Began tapering again. From 5mg to 4.5mg of Mirtazapine. (Rocking the boat, again)! Lol. :(

  • 2 weeks later...

Sunday is four weeks since I started the last drop, so I'll go down again then. I'll do 2.5mg for a few days and then drop to 2.4 and probably to 2.3.

I've had a few days of 2.5 and I think tonight or tomorrow is my drop to 2.4mg. I'll leave it there for this month since that's just under 10% and a third 0.1mg drop will take me past that.

I wonder if anyone knows how advisable, or otherwise, antihistamines are? Not irregular, occasional, use, I'm afraid. My allergies are dreadful at present, and this just isn't the time to be sniffing and sneezing all the time! I've read somewhere that SSRIs and antihistamines are somehow related, but I'm not sure about it. I will see if I can do some investigations, but it will probably be next week when I get half a day to sit down and look.

Currently down 97.5mg, at 2.5mg. Will also update my sig when I get to the computer next week.

I'm not sure what this means but I found it on https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sertraline:

Quote

Sertraline does not have significant affinity for the norepinephrine transporter (NET) or the serotonin, dopamine, adrenergic, histamine, or acetylcholine receptors.
