Hi My Darling Poulesportive,

I just came by to check up on you and to send you love and support. You are doing amazingly well. Yes, it feels like hell but the longer you do the process of getting off, the more heaven you experience too. So, you're doing amazingly well. I am incredibly proud of you. 30 years is a long time, and we have no idea if quitting will help even after that long, but how can we know if we do not try.

I gave myself two years to see a difference and I did see it after quitting. I started counting after being off the meds completely. So, just prepare yourself that it is definitely going to be a long process. Please carry on with magnesium, and take omega 3 fish oils, vitamin D, Vitamin B Complex and especially make sure that you are good on Vitamin B12 levels and Folate levels. I think we spoke about this. :D I can't remember and I apologise if I am repeating myself or if you are already taking them.

Hugs and Kisses.

Started Xanax and Escitalopram (Lexapro) - 2008 May

Stopped Xanax in 2014 Oct

Started Seroquel and Neurontin in 2014 Oct (Weight gain 20kgs in 6 months)

Stopped Seroquel and Neurontin 2015 June

Stopped Escitalopram (Lexapro) 2016 Dec

Taking: Magnesium,  Evening Primrose, Vitamin C, Iron Fumarate (Chronic anemia), Levothyroxine, Triiodothyronine.

Year 1 was tough. Year 2 I started seeing the light at the end of the tunnel. Year 3 was good.

5 years drug free on December 25, 2021.

HI everyone,

Back on this site again after a year on Paxil. Tapering on Paxil now, but the taper has really been unmanageable, so added Wellbutrin at my doctor's recommendation, at the lowest dose she would prescribe.

Seeing several old messages on here of people reaching out to me has made me burst into tears. This newest taper has really been a struggle and I am so moved to see the support for what I am trying to do. I think part of what has made me cry is how unbelievably poorly attuned my husband is, and how much he expects me to function normally while I taper. Versus people on this website, who actually do understand.

Right now I'm dealing with irritability (a new symptom for me - possibly the Wellbutrin), dizziness and 'brain vacuums' (definitely the Paxil withdrawal), rapid weight gain, bloating, and some difficulty focusing, although for the attention issues drinking coffee seems to help.

I know my Paxil taper is too fast but I start a new job in March and I want this **** completely out of my system. It made me a vegetable.

Just really really struggling tonight with withdrawal symptoms, side effects, and the feeling of utter discouragement that (a) I can't get off antidepressants and (b) the fact that they don't work for very long and I have to switch again.

Taking bee pollen, fish oil, Vitamin D, magnesium, and trying to get regular exercise.

September 2016 - Paxil 12.5 mg CR stopped working for depression and anxiety after about 15 years on it

October - December 2016 - Wellbutrin not effective for depression; Lexapro gave me a panic attack

December 2016 - January 2018 - Zoloft low dose (can't remember) - this drug, in my opinion, ruined my digestive system

January 2018 - Tapering Zoloft while adding 5 mg Prozac intensified digestive problems; doctor insisted on immediate CT

February 2018 - 21 days CT after about 25 years on antidepressants. A living hell, not functional except at work.

March - April 2018 - Prescribed Cymbalta 20 mg. Reduced 10% in April due to weight gain, digestive issues. and experienced severe withdrawal (extreme anxiety, depression, brain fog, memory loss, night sweats)

May 2018 - Updosed and held at 18.5 mg Cymbalta.

December 2018 - switch to 20 mg Paxil after continued, slow taper on Cymbalta produced unmanageable anxiety.

Jan-Feb 2019 - started tapering on Paxil; currently 2.5 mg Paxil and 75 mg Wellbutrin

Paxil is tough. I would not push the taper. it will make it worse. I got rocked for a solid 8 months during withdrawals.

I follow The Plant Paradox lifestyle by Dr.Gundry. This lifestyle has given me my life back and I feel better than I have ever felt in my life. It has enabled me to finally get off of this medication and truly live my life. Nutrition is the key to health!!!!!

2008 to 2019  - 20 mg Paroxetine

Attempted 2 CT's around the 5-6 year mark. Were absolutely terrible and reinstated. Was never explained by the doctor the seriousness of the short half life of this drug.

2017 - Attempted a tapered discontinuation of this drug and reinstated after being unsuccessful.

2019 - Feb. 12 - After a three month taper I am off of paroxetine. The 3 months were terrible, awful withdrawal feelings. I followed the doctors guidelines for the reduction of this drug and now know it was way too fast.
2019 - Oct. 12 - 8 months off paroxetine. 75% improvement since coming off the drug. Definitely have had tons of challenges along the way. Let’s go!!!!

2021 - Feb. 12 - 24 months off paroxetine. I have minor challenges now. Tinnitus/Headaches are still around but are reduced by a massive amount.

Cocopuff, thanks so much for writing this. It is really important to me to see that there is someone who made it off of Paxil completely - congratulations! I am so glad you stayed on this website to give hope to others. I know you are right about not pushing the taper. I am definitely in an uncomfortable place but hoping to keep going and not have to updose. Just want off of it so badly due to the side effects (lack of motivation, oversleeping, general zombification). Anyway - thank you.

You are welcome. There is waves and windows as you know. I have had those challenges since coming off the medication. I feel better each month though. It will get better.

But now I see there are many more actions I can take to improve my health that are probably a better use of time than complaining about how slow my taper is :)

You do know whose are withdrawal symptoms too, right?  2.5 mgs of Paxil might not be the cause of those.  I had those symptoms on my 25 mg dose, but they resolved themselves about the 13 mg mark.  If You've gone from 20 mgs of Paxil to 2.5 in only 14 months, wow, that's... a really good reason to be feeling as poorly as you are, unfortunately.
