tapering and blood sugar

bubbles

Recommended Posts

Hi again

I've been reading various posts on this site, and lots of other information and my head is spinning! Anyway, I keep seeing comments about blood sugar and withdrawal.

When I was attempting to taper previously, I had *massive* sugar cravings. I'd sit down and eat a bag of candy, and I would feel so much better. Unfortunately, that much sugar isn't good for either the teeth or the waistline, but it was the only thing that helped. People suggested nuts etc, but really, it had to be sugar. Does anyone know of any studies or information I can read on this phenomenom?

Thanks

I have always had problems with low blood sugar even before I was ever put on Antidepressants, and still do, I do have a sweet tooth and I have to be very strict with myself, I try to stick to savoury foods because it really helps keep blood sugar levels even.

Original drug was sertraline/Zoloft, switched to Prozac in 2007.
Tapering from 5mls liquid prozac since Feb 2008, got down to 0.85ml 23/09/2012, reinstated back to 1ml(4mg) 07/11/2012, didn't appear to work, upped to 1.05ml 17/11/2012, back down to 1ml 12/12/2012 didn't work, up to 1.30ml 16/3/2013 didn't work, bumped up to 2ml (8mg) 4/4/2013 didn't work, in July 2013 I reinstated Sertraline (Zoloft) 50mg, feeling better now.

A few months down the line I switched to 5ml liquid Prozac and tapered down to a compromise dose of 3ml liquid Prozac and have stayed there ever since, no withdrawals and no emotional blunting/loss of libido.

Antidepressants affect your insulin balance. This is why they substantially raise the risk of diabetes. We have at least one paper on this in the Journals section.

Thanks, Alto. I'll look there. I spent ages last night googling without anything useful.
