Is there anyone that is not able to sleep in the day.its been over a year mostly during the meds i cant take a nap.i sleep about 5 hrs at night but still on seroquel 50 mg so it helps.im worried because i cant fall asleep during the day no matter how tired.it mostly feels like anxiety rushing me.I  just toss and turn or get up and dart around.

This is absolutely my experience of going through WD.  It's tough because you can't make up for lost sleep at night. I had to go on a child's sleep schedule to get enough sleep.  Early to bed so that a 5:30 am cortisol wake up would not leave me too fatigued.

Eventually your system will calm down.  It may take a long time to get back to taking naps in the day.  You have to maximize what you can get before 4 or 5 am when cortisol starts to rise in your body naturally.  Cortisol is made by the body, and it's the hormone that helps you wake up, but in WD it causes a haywire response -- anxiety and adrenaline is released somehow during the wake up process, too.  Some people who can fall asleep in the day talk about toxic naps -- taking a nap made the day worse because of the way they felt after waking up.

In order to maximize your sleep you can try these things that worked for me:

1. Go to bed early and use a sleep mask to block out the light.  If a sleep mask is too uncomfortable, get black out shades for the window.

2. No screens for an hour or two before bedtime.  No blue light.  Low, golden light or candles in the house.

3. Use a fan for white noise.

4. Go to bed at the same time every night

5. Drop the temperature in your bedroom before you go to bed (I have to drop mine to 73).  This will signal your body that it's time to sleep.

6. Soothing music - yoga, meditation or singing bowls music perhaps.

To sleep later:

7. Use a sleep mask/black out shades to sleep later on days you don't work.

8.  If --after daylight -- you wake up anxious and can't fall back asleep, get up and do something to distract so that you can get to bed earlier that night.

9.  Turn down the thermostat if you had let the temp rise in the night.

Good luck.  So sorry you are going through this.

that that makes sense about the toxic nap thing because the part of the problem about taking a nap is when I'm laying there I have a fear of how I'm going to feel when I wake up and my going to be frightened am I going to have an anxiety attack so I think that that's what's keeping me awake also is that extra anxiety worrying about how I'm going to feel if I do actually fall asleep when I wake up so that makes sense so that nap is not be worth it if you wake up tripping out and it ruins your day so I'll just stay awake in the day I guess thank you so much for your Insight and inspiration

I think I think the more positive Parts about the situation is that you get to know yourself better because you're so self-aware I was just thinking that maybe prior to all this happening I wasn't paying so much attention to things and that's how I got out of whack with the anxiety my anxiety started about four months after my dad passed away then turn into physical symptoms that led to health anxiety and then the medications

Back to work.Worried about symptoms again.the anxiety is full out today. It was strange this morning I woke up very tired which in the recent past I haven't been feeling that. I feel like I have to get up because of the anxiety . I did drift back off asleep which that rarely ever happens and I noticed that I was dreaming but then I jolted back awake with the fear . this is something new for me.

RusTW, please put your updates in your own Introductions topic.

Sounds like your nervous system is settling down.

RusTW, how are you doing now?

Sleep disturbances like this one are very common withdrawal symptoms. At least you're sleeping 5 hours at night, that's not too bad.

You'll need to be patient and let your nervous system settle down. In the meantime, you might be able to improve your sleep with a few lifestyle changes. See Important topics about symptoms, including sleep problems

Thanks Altostrata this site is a great help

Hi Rus, You posted on my thread:

What's your opinion on tapering Zoloft and Seroquel I have to taper off of both of these but I'm not sure which one to do first. I'm concerned if I taper off the Seroquel first because Zoloft is an activating drug it might heightened anxiety and insomnia

I defer to the Mods on that sort of question. I have no experience with Seroquel or proper tapering.  I'm sure they will tell you to taper the activating drug first unless there is some reason to do otherwise, but I know nothing about Seroquel.  Sorry -R

That's ok. I read somewhere to taper the activating one first also.

Rus,

Thanks for your note on my thread.  You are very lucky that you reinstated when you did and at a lower dose.  I think you are going to stabilize pretty quickly compared to me.  I don't know how you knew or what happenstance caused you to use 100 mg, but I'm really glad you found SA.  You can learn so much here that can prevent you from taking the misinformed advice of doctors who are unaware of the issues.

Yes, I'm doing much better.  Sometimes, I can hardly believe it.

Thanks Rosetta I'm glad I found SA also. Yours and others progress and support is an inspiration to me. It was a gut feeling to reinstate  100 mg I still had three weeks to wait to see my psychiatrist. When I did see her I wasn't too happy with the situation so we parted ways.SA was a blessing. We are all in this together.

Hi Rosetta- I have used that site. Thank you ☺Last year I had so many drug interactions from the medical docters mixed with the psych meds it was unbelievable. That website is lifesaver. I found out you can't take Zofran with Zoloft it has major interactions. I was using the Zofran for my nausea. I just made my next cut in my Zoloft 10 mg yesterday.

It's getting close to my two month Mark for reinstating 100 mg of Seroquel after a three-week cold turkey. At the time of reinstatement of Seroquel 100 mg I was also on a dose of Zoloft 100mg. My current dose of Seroquel is 50 mg and my current dose of Zoloft right now is 40 mg a new reduction of 10 mg. I will hold on these doses for now. My nausea is somewhat better not Extreme as in the beginning. I do have days though where it's still severe the waves usually last two or three days and then I'll get a break for 2 or 3 days. Sometimes my waves and windows will fluctuate throughout the day. My sleep is okay I'm falling asleep fairly easy and sleep for around 5 or 6 hours if I'm lucky then wake up with anxiety and nausea sometimes no anxiety. I do have some days where I'm symptom-free and feel very lucky for that. When a wave hits me it shakes me up quite a bit. I found out that exercising a good nutrition and rest are extremely helpful in this withdraw thing.  lately the anxiety been has been extreme on and off. Last night I up with a excruciating headache so something's happening with the brain even while I'm sleeping. I hope all this symptom changing is a sign of healing. Thanks to everyone on this site for your support it makes a world of difference to know that we are not alone through this.

Hi RusTW,

I’m sorry you’re getting headaches. Waterfall was just saying that she’s been getting them too. Actually she wrote a little tune on her thread about wanting them to go away🎼.

Have you tried those sea bands that you put in your wrist for nausea. I’m not sure if they will work or not, they help some people but not others. Everyone is so different.

Im glad to hear that you’re getting some windows. I’m also tapering off Seroquel, I’m down to 6.5mg from 300mg but have got many more years to go as I can only taper tiny amounts. I’ve been having a break from tapering for months now too, will start again at the end of August as I’m going on holiday in August.

All the best with your tapering, Sending hugs🤗

Why did you drop from 50 to 40 on the Zoloft?  That's 20%.  Isn't it?  10 mg would be 10% of 100.  You should take 55 not 50, I think. (Yes, I know that I said I don't know anything about proper tapering -- except the 10% rule!!)

I really think that you should be holding everything right now.  You said that lately the anxiety has been extreme on and off.  I'm not sure that's stabilization.  Maybe a Mod will chime in.  I don't want your WD to get worse because you started reducing too soon.  The drug interaction is worrisome, but please at least go to 55 mg until a Mod comes by to give an opinion.

thanks for that Rosetta. I might have to go back up to 50 and hold. I haven't been feeling too hot either these last 2 or 3 days. Sometimes I have to remind myself that the Zoloft is just as strong as the Seroquel reducing.

I've been getting terrible headaches anxiety confusion blurred vision. I'm going to have to slow down a lot more physically and mentally. I'm getting nervous now because I have to go see my general practitioner doctor to get more Seroquel to slow taper. Thanks for reminding me of too much of a drop.

hopefully this is just another wave I've had some windows lately so I just hope that it's just another wave of hitting me and not a part of the reduction. After my windows I usually will get the nausea and anxiety combo. Now it seems like I'm getting more symptoms of dizziness the headaches the blurred vision. Lesson learned Rosetta thank God it wasn't a huge drop like I did in the beginning

I've been wondering if the testosterone replacement therapy is what's causing my anxiety. This is a tough one because if you don't have enough of it you get anxiety and then if you have too much or dose at the wrong time then you get anxiety so I'm still in a bind with this one. I'm sure my urologist is not going to have a clue about withdrawing from psych meds so I think it's going to be hard for him to answer that question how it's affecting me.

Carmie   = why were you on 300 mg of the Seroquel. I was put on Zyprexa 10mg for many months and then my doctor decided to switch the Seroquel because she says that cyprexx that has more side effects which if you look at the side effects of both of them they're pretty comparable. I was put on them for insomnia from the anxiety I was having. Now looking back I think I was having entered us withdraw from my Ativan during the time I was taking it and when I was tapering it. Then I called turkey the Seroquel and it took about 2 or 3 weeks for the withdrawals to hit me I was itching nausea and anxiety predominantly.

Rosetta you got me thinking about how I reduce my Zoloft from the start of this I went from 125 mg now I'm down to 50 so it wasn't in a long amount of time I did do a fast taper also so I'm trying to keep myself in check about that and thanks for calling me out on the on the reduction. I'm going to hold here for a while now and see what happens.

Hi, Rus,

For a lot of people a large reduction is what caused the WD.  Some people have other circumstances, and we don't understand all the ways these drugs can destabilize the nervous system.  Most people, it seems reduced the dose by more than 10%  like you and I did.  Raising the dose again doesn't always work, and sometimes people were feeling better before they raised the dose than after.  The theory is that their bodies became accustomed to the lower dose, and going back to the previous dose meant they were taking too much.  So, WD became worse from the increase.  The nervous system is not endlessly forgiving.

So, it's good that you didn't go back to 125 even though you are waiting out the correction of the destabilization.  However, it's seems to be pretty common that each time the dose is reduced too much the results are more severe.  That's why once one is feeling WD, even mild symptoms like headaches and dizziness, the drug needs to be kept as stable in the system as possible from there on out until the nervous system can calm down.  One can't forget a dose or take it late or change the dose.

If I were you I would hold for a while.  Maybe a Mod can tell you how long.  Normally, I would suggest quite a while but you have the drug interaction to consider.  So, I really don't know that there is any easy number of weeks.  I would want to reduce as soon as I could.  For that reason, you should keep track of your symptoms and the time of day they occur.  Use an appointment calendar that has the hours written out to the left, 8:00, 9:00, etc.. Transfer the symptoms to a post each evening.  The mods will see that and may be able to help you make some decisions.  Does that make sense?

this morning has been a rough morning . I woke up with anxiety and nausea. I also have racing thoughts confusion pressure in my head and I'm starting to get another headache again it's coming back. This wave was a wake-up call to hold on my doses for a while I think I was feeling too confident when I was feeling good and now I feel like crap. The anxiety is really hard to deal with because my mind feels blank and I feel the anxiety on top of that so I it's adding to the confusion. This feels like a different kind of anxiety also it's more racy. The headaches been with the anxiety over the last 3 days been pretty bad.

I was thinking about something Rosetta mentioned about my withdrawal. She thought because I was on the antidepressants and Seroquel for a shorter period of time about a year a little over a year that my withdrawals weren't going to be long. Is there anybody out there who has experience or knowledge with this.

I'm curious about this because of how my windows and waves are going . I'll have a nice stretch of windows and then the waves will come with changing symptoms. Sometimes it's a daily thing I'll have Windows and waves throughout the day or moment-to-moment thing where I feel like I'm in a window and in a wave at the same time if that makes any sense. The moment to moment thing is pretty bizarre because I'll feel sick and have anxiety and then it'll shift back into just regular thinking but then I have a cloudy head at the same time so it just goes back and forth back and forth that's what what's been happening to me over the last 3 days

after after being on Zyprexa 10 mg per night for months my doctor switch me to Seroquel 200 mg or even up to 300 mg per night for sleep and I cold turkey that after 3 weeks of taking it. at the time I was also taking a 125 mg of Zoloft to counteract the anxiety and depression. It took about three weeks for the withdrawals to hit me. My scalp started itching I was extremely nauseated 24 hours a day and I had bad anxiety. On my own I reinstated a 100 mg of Seroquel about that three-week Mark when I realize what I did. That was back in May of this year. From then until now I've managed to reduce my Seroquel down to 50 mg and the Zoloft down to 50 mg. I think the taper of the Zoloft was too fast down from 125 mg down to 50 mg. I'm holding here now but worried that the cold turkey and the fast taper might have set me back as far as time goes.
