Some of the other mods may have knowledge about this drug.  I'll let them know that you are needing assistance.

There are many existing topics on the site.  You can either use the site search function or a search engine, adding survivingantidepressants.org to your search term.

This is your own Intro topic where you can ask questions about your own situation and journal your progress.

valporate magnesium (please include brand name for easier recognition of this drug)

If you tapered the other drugs please include the doses and dates of the reductions.

If you didn't taper and went off the doses in your signature, please add CT (= cold turkey)

The moderators need to be able to glance at your drug signature and see your history.  It means that we don't have to waste time reading through members' topics trying to get the information we need.

Please update it whenever you make a change.

Thanks

Hi Rick,

I'm only a little bit familiar with the Valdoxan due to a brief interaction with this member:

https://www.survivingantidepressants.org/topic/11404-ripvanwinkle/?tab=comments#comment-210501

He reported he was doing great one year off.  It's a bit unclear whether he continued off of Cymbalta.  However, you could attempt to PM him or leave another note on his thread.  I got the impression that he was able to use a lot of non-drug coping which helped.  Take a look anyway.

I think that it's a bit unclear for any of us to know for sure whether your current  high adrenaline is directly related to just the ValdoxanW/D, or a reemergence of W/D from your other medications that you discontinued.   There is no direct test.   If they have just started.....and from your description above...I think we can likely attribute them to your more recent W/D from Valdoxan.  In any case, like many of us off psychotropic medication, your nervous system is in a state of healing from the dependencies created from psychotropic medication.  And reorganization.

When you were on the Valdoxan were you feeling any W/D type symptoms from your other medication discontinuations?

Are your symptoms mainly in the morning or throughout the day?  You might try to keep a bit of a log for us:

You could consider using some of the non drug coping skills to deal with cortisol surges:

https://www.survivingantidepressants.org/topic/17471-waking-with-panic-or-anxiety-managing-cortisol-spikes/

As well as introducing one at a time either omega 3's or magnesium:

King of supplements: Omega-3 fatty acids (fish oil)

Magnesium, nature's calcium channel blocker

(try to at least get an idea from the first several posts in each of these)

Look around in our symptoms and self care section and hopefully you can find some other coping that is doable for you as well.

Do you have any Valdoxan left?  I don't know that we have many who have tried reinstating Valdoxan, yet that might be something you could consider as well.  And there is some information on this in the link that ChessieCat gave you.   With the A/D's we typically have members reinstate at a much lower dose than what they had gone off of.........you'll see when you read through this link:

https://www.survivingantidepressants.org/topic/7562-about-reinstating-and-stabilizing-to-reduce-withdrawal-symptoms/

(again read carefully through the first couple of posts there........that may help you decide yourself whether you might be a good candidate for this)

It looks like you have been off it completely for 4 months now.

Okay......all for now.

Love, peace, healing/inrecovery, and growth,

mmt

What kind of test though?

And do you have any Valdoxan left?  Or the means to get some more at this point.

It's a different medication from the other A/D's........yet.......it sounds like it may have actually helped offset some of your other W/D's.  That's why I ask.

Do look and try some non drug coping too if possible Rick.

Thanks,

Hello, Rick.

Do you have any valdoxan left?

Cold turkey is a high-risk way to go off drugs, now you know why. Please do not do this ever again, it could be even worse.

This is not medical advice. Discuss any decisions about your medical care with a knowledgeable medical practitioner.

I'm gonna answer to this thread. You asked about my symptoms going off. Unfortunately, I have no idea. I reduced Valdoxan after a very short taper from Effexor XR which was a huge mistake. I had crazy bad waves, but I made a very reckless decision too. You said that the other CTs didn't affect you as much. It's possible that the other CTs are catching up with you.

Also, have you gotten you liver tested? It's almost mandatory to get liver tests when you take Valdoxan as it can damage the liver. How's your diet and do you exercise? I personally can't have any sugar, coffee or too much gluten, and I also don't tolerate exercise. An interesting side effect after reducing Valdoxan is that my craving for cigarettes increases. I know smoking is bad, especially when taking psych drugs, but I'm waiting 'til the end of my Valium taper to quit to maintain steady blood levels.

History:

Escitalopram 10mg Nov - Jan 2016 (switched to Effexor XR)

Effexor XR 37,5mg Jan - Feb 2016; 75mg Feb - April 2016; 37,5mg for one week in April, 75mg April-July 2016 (started tapering, took my last beads on Sept 11.)

The fluctuations happened because my GP mistakingly prescribed me the wrong dosage.

Oxazepam 2x10mg Dec 2015 - Jan 2016 (basically CT but no apparent symptoms); June 2016 - Feb 2017 (c/o to Valium)

Current:

Valdoxan 25mg Dec 2015 - Sept 2016. 12.4mg (Sept - Nov '16) -> 11.86mg (Nov '16) -> 10.75mg (Dec '16) -> 9.75mg (Jan '17) -> 8mg (March '17) -> 7mg (April '17) -> 4.5mg (May '17) -> 4mg (Jan '18) -> updosed to 4.5mg in the end of January

Valium (liquid form) 8.5mg Feb 2017. 7.6mg (June '17) -> 7.2mg (June '17) -> 6.8mg (July '17) -> 6.4 (Sept '17) -> 6.2 (March '18) -> 6 (April 7 '18) -> 5.8 (April 17 '18) -> 5.6 (April 26 '18) -> 5.4 (July 16 '18) -> 5.2 (March '20) -> 5 (March '20)

What to take away from all this: if you feel extremely sick only after a few doses of an AD, please tell your doctor and just stop. Adding medications is no bueno.

Depersonalisation, 24/7 terror (more so with benzos), anhedonia, dystonia, akathisia, paranoia, muscle cramps, tingling, cog fog, memory problems, balance issues, agitation, insomnia.

Withdrawal can come and go in waves and may take well over 5 months. I'm not saying it's the case for you, but it's often reported with both ADs and benzos. Again, have you gotten your liver tested?

Just to clarify, I was tapering multiple meds at once. My waves could be a mix of all the things mentioned above or some of the symptoms mentioned. Effexor is known for causing very nasty withdrawal and so are benzos. I also seem to be extra sensitive to drugs as I get all the side effects.

History:

Escitalopram 10mg Nov - Jan 2016 (switched to Effexor XR)

Effexor XR 37,5mg Jan - Feb 2016; 75mg Feb - April 2016; 37,5mg for one week in April, 75mg April-July 2016 (started tapering, took my last beads on Sept 11.)

Oxazepam 2x10mg Dec 2015 - Jan 2016 (basically CT but no apparent symptoms); June 2016 - Feb 2017 (c/o to Valium)

Current:

Valdoxan 25mg Dec 2015 - Sept 2016. 12.4mg (Sept - Nov '16) -> 11.86mg (Nov '16) -> 10.75mg (Dec '16) -> 9.75mg (Jan '17) -> 8mg (March '17) -> 7mg (April '17) -> 4.5mg (May '17) -> 4mg (Jan '18) -> updosed to 4.5mg in the end of January

Valium (liquid form) 8.5mg Feb 2017. 7.6mg (June '17) -> 7.2mg (June '17) -> 6.8mg (July '17) -> 6.4 (Sept '17) -> 6.2 (March '18) -> 6 (April 7 '18) -> 5.8 (April 17 '18) -> 5.6 (April 26 '18) -> 5.4 (July 16 '18) -> 5.2 (March '20) -> 5 (March '20)

What to take away from all this: if you feel extremely sick only after a few doses of an AD, please tell your doctor and just stop. Adding medications is no bueno.
