If it was me, I'd be starting to taper off the Paxil.  There is a very strong possibility that you are experiencing serotonin toxicity.

I've had mild serotonin toxicity from being on a high dose of Pristiq 100mg, no other serotonin drugs involved.  Once my dose got lower I started feeling a lot better and realised what symptoms I had been getting that were caused by the serotonin.

What I experienced:  sweating even on a cold day, anxiety, agitation, trouble concentrating, confusion, having a 2 hour sleep probably 4 or 5 days each week, and still sleeping through the night, increased diastolic blood pressure, skipping/missed heart beats.

I’m on 10paxil/10 Prozac. Just over one week now on both. I have anxiety and trouble concentrating. Early waking with anxiety.

Was told it would take 2-4 weeks to stabilize

1994 began Paxil 20. Jan2018-began taper @ 2.5 mg every 6 wks. 10mg Paxil on May 12/2018

May 2019 - 9.75 mg Paxil; July 12/19 9.5 mg

July 20/19 -9.75 mg

Aug  12/19 10 mg Paxil 10 mg Prozac, “Prozac bridge” ;Vit D 1000iu 6 per day, magnesium bis-glycinate 200mgx3, Omega 3 600mg x3, gaba 600mgx2, Inositol powder

Meditation, tapping, breathing and grounding, yoga, art, counselling

Aug 21 dropped Prozac; increase Paxil to 15mg

March 8/2021. Reinstated to 20 mg Paxil

July 2021 added .75 mg Wellbutrin

I’m doing Prozac bridge since Aug  12 th, 2019

on 10mg Paxil and 10 mg Prozac

I have to apologise.  I misread the date and thought it said April 2019, not August.

So that we have clear information please post the dates and doses of your bridge, stating what dose you were taking of Paxil before you added in the Prozac.

Also post what your doctor's plan is.

So you were taking 9.5mg (or 10mg) Paxil and added Prozac and have been taking that since 12 August which is about 8 or 9 days.

The idea of the bridge is to change over from one drug to another over a few weeks.

It only takes about 1 month for the brain to adapt to getting a drug.

Did you read the-prozac-switch-or-bridging-with-prozac?

Do not stay on the combination of the first antidepressant and Prozac for more than 2 weeks, or you run the risk of your nervous system accommodating to the combination and having difficulty tapering off both antidepressants.

Q:  What is your doctor's plan?  Did he say to increase the Prozac when you reduce the Paxil?

Blandell, as Chessie said, the idea of the switch is to slide over from one drug to the other within a short amount of time. It does not require as gradual a taper off the first drug as the second drug (Prozac) is presumed to substitute for it.

When you added Prozac to Paxil, you increased your serotonergic stimulation -- but because the drugs inhibit each others' metabolism, it's possible you more than doubled this effect.

Did you just go off Prozac and increase Paxil? Why did you do that? Didn't you want to go on Prozac instead?

This is not medical advice. Discuss any decisions about your medical care with a knowledgeable medical practitioner.

I also coping with our only child moving out soon...he announced it the day I had tapered down to 9.5 mg. The life event was an extremely emotional trigger for me.

I decided to drop Prozac and increase Paxil to 15mg, in order to stabilize. I’m also taking a small amount of clonazepam each day to help me during this transition.

I will not attempt anything until I’m settled

What I wanted to know is what was the doctor's plan for the Prozac bridge.  That is, what dose of each drug were you supposed to take for how long as you did the cross taper.

I can’t answer that... not a clear idea of that. I am no longer taking Prozac. The dr that started me on the bridge went away for one month immediately and I was directed to locum dr. It felt too disjointed and scary to me so in consultation with another locum, who I liked and saw 2x this week, we decided not right time for me to do bridge. Too much going on in my life that is destabilizing for me

Well there wasn’t much of a plan...I was to take 10 mg of each for 4 weeks while dr was away.

Because thst dr was away I was seeing clinic docs, one of whom helped me imo by stopping Prozac, upping Paxil, and starting me on clonazepam

Definitely not much of a plan.  They had no idea of how to do a Prozac bridge.  I wouldn't be seeing that doctor again about anything psychiatric drug related.

That would be .25mg clonazepam. In the future, please refer to the dosage you're taking, rather than the number of tablets.

"Depression" can be a side effect of benzodiazepines such as clonazepam.

Not sure what 's going on. Making drug changes while going through something that's upsetting is not a good idea. However, if you continue to take clonazepam and zopiclone regularly, you may become at least physiologically dependent on them.

My guess is when you were taking Paxil and Prozac, both SSRIs, together, you were taking too much SSRI for your system. Reducing Paxil, which was the crossover plan, might have fixed this, but your doctor failed to monitor your drug changes or follow through with the cross-over process.

Not sure what happened when you dropped Prozac and increased Paxil, possibly more excessive SSRI. Could be that too much Paxil is causing your sleeplessness. However, rather than address what might be an adverse reaction to Paxil, your doctor has prescribed clonazepam and zopiclone.

As this is as site for going off drugs and you're following your doctor's advice to increase drugs, not sure how we can help you. Please discuss further drug side effects and tapering concerns with your doctor and contact us again when you have decided to decrease your drugs.

This is not medical advice. Discuss any decisions about your medical care with a knowledgeable medical practitioner.

I was on 10 mgs Paxil for close to a year then dropped to 9.75 for 8 weeks. Then dropped to 9.5 mgs for 2 weeks, back to 10mgs for 10 days (attempted Prozac bridge with 10 mg Prozac added on...dr advice🙁) then up to 15 mgs Paxil and dropped Prozac completely. It’s been 8 weeks since I went up to 15mg. I’m having anxiety, sadness, crying, sleep not so good.
I’m wondering if this is related to the updose to 15mgs. I’m struggling a lot.

I’m grateful for this forum cuz medical advice has hurt me.

I found your post as a new introduction and moved it back with your pre-existing introduction.

What are your present medications?  I'm seeing that zopiclone and clonazepam may have been added to your Paxil in August, here on your introduction.

Can you post here what you are presently taking and at what time of day?

Best, for clarity, to just put the time on the left, and then each drug by name and then the dose that you take.

Do that right here for now.

That will be helpful for us, to try and help you.

Late 2023- gone to emeritus status, inactive, don't @ me, I can check who I've posted on, and I'm not really here like I used to be......thanks.

Started with psycho meds/psychiatric care circa 1988.  In retrospect, and on contemplation, situational overwhelm.

Rounding up to 30 years of medications(30 medication trials, poly-pharmacy maximum was 3 at one time).

5/28/2015-off Adderal salts 2.5mg. (I had been on that since hospital 10/2014)

12/2015---just holding, holding, holding, with trileptal/oxcarb at 75 mg. 1/2 tab at hs.  My last psycho med ever!  Tapered @ 10% every 4 weeks, sometimes 2 weeks to

2016 Dec 16 medication free!!

Longer signature post here, with current supplements.

Herb and alcohol free since 5/15/2016.  And.....I quit smoking 11/2021. Lapsed.  Redo of quit smoking 9/28/2022.  Can you say Hallelujah?(took me long enough)💜

I’ve been holding at 15 mg Paxil for 18 months. I plan to eventually begin tapering again. I’m thinking of starting Wellbutrin in order to boost my mood right now and then to help me as I taper off of Paxil. I’m thinking the Paxil is currently not doing anything for me and I’ve been struggling emotionally

Welcome to SA, jordidog.

We definitely don't recommend starting a new drug either to deal with withdrawal from a previous drug or to deal with current symptoms.  There is no way to know how Wellbutrin will affect you.  It could make things worse.

Taking Wellbutrin next to an SSRI can make withdrawal of the SSRI much more difficult! This because Wellbutrin very often influences the metabolism of a SSRI.

1993    Anafranil (Clomipramine) for a few months. Later in 1993 Paxil for a few months 1993- 2006      No medication

2006   Effexor, Cymbalta, some Benzo’s. All for short periods. Later in 2006 Lexapro (escitalopram) 10 mg and shortly after Wellbutrin XR 150mg, against side effects Lexapro

Since 2006 until end of 2015: Several times on and off Lexapro and Wellbutrin and several slight dosage changes. Mostly taken dosages: 5mg Lexapro and 150mg Wellbutrin

2016  Dosage change Lexapro from 5mg to 2,5 mg. Wellbutrin stayed om 150mg

November 2016 – April 2017 Down from 2,5mg to 0,6mg Lexapro (in steps) without much problems. Wellbutrin down from 150mg to 66mg. Also without much problems.

April 2017 – March 2019       Lexapro 0,6 mg        April 2017 - August 2018       Wellbutrin in small steps down from 66mg in to 37,5 mg . Quite heavy WD after each step.

March 2019 – May 2019 Lexapro down from 0,6 to 0,3mg then Prozac to 0,6 mg switch because severe discontinuation effects (may also have been from Wellbutrin..)

Wellbutrin down from 37,5mg to 35,3mg

October 2019        Seroquel 12,5 mg for 4 weeks because of extreme sleeping problems, then weaning off in 2 weeks       Prozac up dosage to 1,2 mg

March 2020     Wellbutrin in 2 steps down from 35,3mg to 33,3mg   Extreme withdrawal effects during 8 months. Stopped tapering Wellbutrin  until total off Prozac.

February 2020 – November 2020   Prozac down in steps from 1,2mg to 0,57mg.

I’ve just reinstated from 15 mg up to 20 mg after holding for 18 months. I’ve been struggling with anxiety and depression a lot and hoping to get relief. I would like to find a resource to help me with my future tapering and possible change to a different ad as I want off of Paxil. Any ideas?
