sasquatch: 8 months off 20 years of Remeron - very sick

I'm 8 months off 15mg of Remeron every day for 20 years. Before that I was on Ludiomil for 10 years. I tapered over 14 months and suffered the entire time. I never really stabilized no mater how long I waited after a cut to drop my dose. My worst symptoms are Nausea, Dry heaving, tinnitus, morning anxiety, extreme fatigue and sleep issues.

Most days I can't eat until 1pm or later. The nausea is so severe that I have to lay down and can't even talk to my wife without dry heaving. I have a handful of days that are not too bad and I can eat better and have some clarity. This is really hard. Before 2pm is the worst for me. Evening hours are better sometimes but not always.  Nothing helps this nausea. I tried all the prescription meds, ginger, peppermint etc. No impact. I do use Medical Marijuana now and that does help my appetite if the symptoms are moderate. If they are severe as they are most days this also doesn't help.

Does anyone else have these symptoms, especially the nausea. This is so hard. I've been out of work since October and scared...

4 years and 8 months off 2mg of Klonopin. I am 8 months off 15mg Remeron after a 14 month taper. I tried a ct of Remeron before that but had to reinstate. Nausea, Tinnitus, electrical zaps, fatigue, and insomnia are my symptoms

Hi Sasquach, welcome to SA. I am sorry to see that you are still suffering withdrawal. Sadly you tapered too fast, I did the same with effexor, tapered for a year then went into withdrawal. It happened to many of us here so you are not alone.  Am I correct that you finished a klonopin taper around 2014?  Did you suffer withdrawal? Sometimes reinstating a very very tiny dose can help with some of the withdrawal symptoms.  0.5, half a mg,  is a very small dose that could possibly help but after 8 months off it would not be wise to try any more than that.  You can find intructions on how to get the tiny dose here, it explains about making a liquid. No one ever wants to reinstate but many people are amazed that such a tiny dose can help but doctors do not believe it.

It is not advisable to take mirtazapine with medical marijuana. Have any of your symptoms worsened since starting it? Do you take alcohol? This can interact with marijuana. If it helps that is good but sometimes it aggravates withdrawal and it would niot be a good idea to reinstate while taking it.  Your nervous system is unstable in withdrawal and can be aggravated by many things. Alcohol, caffeine, sugar, atrificial sweeteners, preservatives and more can upset an unstable nervous system. I personally have to avoid all those things and have to keep checking my sugar intake, too much and it makes me sick.

You will get better but it takes time, you have to take very good care of yourself and treat yourself kindly.  Here are some links that will explain what is happening. You will get better in time, things will change and symptoms will wax and wane, one will ease up and another will start. It is all part of healing.

Many people find that fish oil and magnesium help with withdrawal, they are the only supplements that we recommend to all members, start with small doses and increase gradually.

Lesson learned, slow down taper at lower doses. Taper no more than 10% of CURRENT dose if possible
