Band: Withdrawal?

Band

Recommended Posts

I took 1 dose of 7.5 Mirtazapine and decided it wasn’t for me.  A week later I started having horrible panic attacks especially during sleep.  Can I be having withdrawal from a 1 time small dose?  I was not having panic attacks before I took it!

Hi Band, welcome to SA. What you had was an adverse reaction from that one dose. Your nervous system has been affected but will recover. How long is it since you took it?   Do you take anything else that could have interacted with the mirtazapine? Panic attacks are frightening, and that turns them into a vicious circle. You have an attack, that causes anxiety which leads to further attacks and on it goes.  If you can breathe your way through them it will help. Understand that they will subside, that you are not going to die, I know how it can feel like it when they are so intense that you can't breathe. This is withdrawal and this shall pass was my mantra. They are caused by cortisol spikes and eventually they will settle down. Do you have any other symptoms?

Lesson learned, slow down taper at lower doses. Taper no more than 10% of CURRENT dose if possible
