Emili
Dear all, I stay stunt here in scare and sadness. My son 15 years old is now on Zoloft, he was put on after the death of his father and signs social anxiety . Doctor just gave him the pills as give a candy he did not explain and warn any thing, he just said he will feel better with this . His dose increased from 25 mgs till 100mgs. I realised the pill make him sick ,more sick and depression. So I discussed with his doctor to reduce dose and bring him out off Zoloft. When I said to doctor about the dose he just said you cut half of the pill , look he has no idea about withdrawal. I am very very angry . I would never give this dirty drug for my son if I had been warned about This is his history of using Zoloft 25 mg 5 days 50mg 7 weeks tired and no energy 100mg 2 weeks extremely tired and nervous, zombie without any emotion .He acted some time strange on this dose. 75 mg 2 weeks extremely tired 50mg 3 weeks tired 40mg 5 weeks He smiled again, some energy come back. He could walk out 30mg 5 weeks He could go to swim and went out with friend even feel tired some time 26mg 3 weeks he is now in this dose and stable. He sleeps well he says he feel calm He does look now depress or have any anxiety. He was very brave to go through withdrawal time with all kind of hot flash, mild depression, mild head ache, quick eyes movement, hallucination one time few minutes.... really night mare a lot of suffering. Some days he feel good but feel tired all the time. Reading all post on this site I was so scared. I hope with short time of using he still have change to escape from this horrible drug. I want to get his life back ,I have only him. He is now on 8th class, last year he stays home due to this pills. The more I cut down the more he feels happy and energy come back He is good now on dose 26 mg, for few days school will start , I think he can join school again. Please give advice how should I cut down the dose that he still can function and go to school and safely coming off this drug. He is very good boy but he said he feels hard to make friend and very shame boy. I am very worry about this. Supplements I give him Magnesium, B complex, oil fish and some time zinc and selenium, herb albizzia julibrissin, zizziphus mauritiana, ziziphus jujuba, soy lecithin, polygala tenuifolia, schisandra chinensis, curcuma longa Many thanks Emili History using Zoloft of my son 15 years old /14 weeks and 5 days on 25-50-100-75-50 before tapering 2.2.2018 - 6.2.2018 5 days 25 mg , 7.2.2018- 21.3.2018 7 weeks 50 mg very tired 22.3.2018- 4.4.2018 2 weeks 100mg extremely tired ,zombie with out energy and emotion 5.4.2018- 17.4.2018 2 weeks 75 mg extremely tired 18.4.2018- 7.5.2018 3 weeks 50 mg tired 8.5.2018- 12.6.2018 5 weeks 40 mg smile again , 13.6.2018- 17.7.2018 5weeks 30 mg some energy came back, he could walk out and went swimming 18.7.2018- 31.8.2018 6 weeks 26 mg doing well 1.9.2018 25 mg Link to comment
Moderator Emeritus mammaP Posted August 8, 2018 Moderator Emeritus Share Posted August 8, 2018 Hi Emili, welcome to SA. I am sorry to see that your son was given these drugs so young. It is good that you are looking after him and that he is doing well now. Is he still doing well at 26mg? I think it might be best for him to stay at that dose for a while to let his brain adjust and see how he is in a few weeks. You might like to read some of these topics, they will explain how the drugs affect the brain and what happens in withdrawal. Your son could have windows and waves, so he might start to feel unwell with withdrawal but don't worry because that happens and it will pass. We need you to create a signature for us, we need the history as you have written it, with the date that he started zoloft. You can copy and paste it into the signature box which is here, then click SAVE and it will appear at the bottom of your posts. Emili
Hi MamaP, From my heart I want to say thank you for your quick answer and support. I still keep my son on dose 26mg. I will hold this dose as your advice some time to see how he acts on this. This morning he felt a bit more tired but after short nap he said he felt good again. No mood swing today, abit light headache but clear though and high concentration. Feeling bitter when seeing him has to go through unnecessary, horrendous withdrawal time. A child passed through the trauma has been thrown again in hell on earth, tortured again. I still daily questioning my self about this mental care system. Doctors still daily describe " happy pill" to bring people, naive children to the darkest hole, nightmare of life, make a normal person become manic. I feel angry, very angry. Once again I want to say thank you for your support. Administrator Altostrata Posted August 9, 2018 Administrator Share Posted August 9, 2018 Welcome, Emili. You did a good job reducing your son's Zoloft dosage. Emili
Hi Altostrata, Thank you very much for your care and advise. I will follow your instruction, keep him on this dose some times. I have digital scale to measure the dose of Zoloft, the first time I took one cutted, scaled pill as sample and the next I measured with my eye and cut with sharp knife. Emili
Hi Alto ,mama P and everybody I discussed with doctor of my son yesterday, because my son is better and does show the sign of depression, I asked him the plan how to pull my son out off antidepressant pill. He said why? people stay on this for whole life, zoloft is good for everybody. He suggested me I should use also. He asked if I want to change medicine for my son because I said him he feels always tired on this medication. I explained that I do not want to change medicine, just confirmed that I want to pull him out of Zoloft. He said do not worry after he joined school, will cut medicine 1/4 and day on day off and quit. In his hand 500 patients now are on Zoloft. I could not sleep already long time.Night and day on this site searching information. I would like to put here the question, with your long time experience please tell me how should I do, because his short time on medication quick step or small step of dose cutting is better? Because I think the longer time he stays on medicine the more harder to quit. TikkiTikki
Hi Emili, How incredibly fortunate your son is to have you for a mother. You are doing a wonderful job of helping him, and it is great that he is happy about school and feeling good. I think the greatest danger with these drugs is in changing doses too rapidly, rather than overall time on them. Stick to the slow taper, paying attention to how he feels, and you will get there.
