Adili13: Paxil withdrawal - questions and concerns

Recommended Posts

@Colonialinteresting, I didn’t consider the dye.

I was also wondering if these are effects due to the fact that I’m getting a more accurate dose now and my body actually needs to register that change. So confusing.

2008: start Lexapro 10 mg which is quickly upped to 20 mg. 2008:2013 try at least four individual times to get off Lexapro, never get lower than 5mg, settle at 15 mg. 2015: again, attempt to get off Lexapro and get to 5 mg. After 6 months, feel i'm stabilizing but go back on a higher dose because of one stressful event. 2016: go to 20 mg from 15 mg due to work stresses, hit severe tolerance for the first time and become very suicidal. 2016-2017: try viibryd and cymbata in an attempt to feel better. Also add Lamictal 150 at some point. 2017: eventually land on paxil 37.5 and Lamictal 150. January 2018: cut paxil to 25. April-July 2018: reduce Lamictal in 50 mg increments till im off August. 2018: reduce paxil to 20 mg. december 2018: dropped Paxil to 18 mg, SEVERE CRASH. March updosed to 20 mg April 11: dropped to 19.4 mg due to akathsia (still experiencing akathsia symptoms from updose) April 20: 19 mg Paxil May 4: 18.7 Paxil July 5: 18.2 July 12: 17.8 Aug 19: 17.5 Aug 26: 17.3 Oct 20: 17.1 Nov 3: 16.9, 8/17/20: 16.6 after nine month hold, 8/24/20: 16.4, 8/31/20:16.2, 9/14/2020: 16.0, 9/21/20: 15.8, 9/28/20: 15.6, 10/19/20:15.4, 10/26/20: 15.2, 11/2/20: 15.1, 11/7/20: 14.8

Red 40, Yellow 5 and Yellow 6 are among the most commonly consumed dyes.

They are the three most likely to cause an allergic response which leads one to wonder why they would continue to use them.

Yellow 5  has been shown to cause hives and asthma symptoms and people who have an allergy to aspirin seem to be more likely to also be allergic to Yellow 5.

I was highly allergic to yellow 5 and 6 when I was younger. I seem to have grown out of it, thank God.

If it continues and you think it likely to be an allergy you can switch back to the old pills.

Pain in the neck but it is what it is.

Will be going back to old 20 mg pills to make my 14.7 mg mixture as head pain, severe waves, and other issues haven’t let up. I’m pretty bummed as I wanted to just hold at a solid pill for a while, but it is what it is. Not sure what caused this as it’s supposed to be the same drug (maybe that I weighed the half of a ten and shaved a bit) but back to the 20’s I go.

If after you feel stable for a period, you can always "test" them again to see if the same reaction occurs.  Then you will know one way or another if it's just a wave from all the societal stress and or just the normal patterns of healing, or actually the different pill formulation. Feel better soon.

That would be fine. It varies from medication to medication and is dependent on a lot of factors such as temperature and the like. In general you should soak it for at least four hours, more is better. I usually recommend over night or 24 hours. Keep it in a cool dark place while soaking and store the finished liquid in the refrigerator.

20 years on Paxil starting at 20mg and working up to 40mg. Sept 2011 started 10% every 6 weeks taper (2.5% every week for 4 weeks then hold for 2 additional weeks), currently at 7.9mg. Oct 2011 CTed 15oz vodka a night, to only drinking 2 beers most nights, totally sober Feb 2013.

Since I wrote this I have continued to decrease my dose by 10% every 6 weeks (2.5% every week for 4 weeks and then hold for an additional 2 weeks). I added in an extra 6 week hold when I hit 10mg to let things settle out even more. When I hit 3mgpw it became hard to split the drop into 4 parts so I switched to dropping 1mgpw (pill weight) every week for 3 weeks and then holding for another 3 weeks.  The 3 + 3 schedule turned out to be too harsh so I cut back to dropping 1mgpw every 4 weeks which is working better.

Current dose 0.000mg 04-15-2017

Hope this solves your problem, @Adili13. God, it's so odd, this latest issue...I'm possibly with you on the 'body getting used to an accurate dose', or perhaps it's catch up symptoms and you need to hold. Hoping it all evens out sooner rather than later xxx

I feel like I was doing much better while tapering and now I feel like total garbage. I wonder if this is the effect of cumulative drops or the effect of the drug itself. This stuff is so frustrating.

Some people just don't do well with the constant dose tampering every week regardless of how small it seems to be. Some do better making bigger drops but longer holds.

If your still having symptoms but dropping again 5 days later, you will probably just get worse.

The Brass monkey scale presupposes your symptom stable with LONGER HOLDS when necessary.

10 drops in 80 days may have been too much, even if the percentage drops were ok.

Paxil just stinks all the way around. 😔

@Colonialall true, but I wasn’t stable after holding 9 months at a steady dose. Like I was worse than ever so just started tapering. I was doing pretty good for most of the taper until I decided to hold again. I kind of had a reaction to switching back to pills and now I’m really thrown off. It’s so weird.

I hope it settles for you, too. It's a total pain to be so reactive to different forms of the same medication. Wonder if the short half life of Paxil plays into that, at all?

God, that's the frustrating thing. We just don't know. All we can do is ride out the wobbles. Sending good wishes, pal.

PS Really like Colonial's idea. It's a great way to test it out.....

If after you feel stable for a period, you can always "test" them again to see if the same reaction occurs.  Then you will know one way or another if it's just a wave from all the societal stress and or just the normal patterns of healing, or actually the different pill formulation. Feel better soon.

@Adili13

You  know lots of times there’s just no rhyme or reason behind why we feel like we do and trying to connect it to something we’ve done or haven’t done. Our bodies are reacting to being on this drug and the changes it is having to make to compensate because we have decreased or made some other kind of change. Sometimes the body doesn’t react straight away . There can be a delay and so we associate  it with something else. It’s a mine field.
a positive is you have been ABLE to decrease.

you are doing better than you think Adili . I have no doubt if you keep notes you will see this.
Don’t  think of yourself as feeling worse think of it as the body fine tuning.

Here is an affirmation courtesy of Baylissa Frederick

“I choose to accept and allow any symptoms, knowing that they are present only because my loyal and resilient body is healing”

Repeat the statement 10 times and at least 10 times throughout the day.

Thinking of you x

@sunnysideup69 thanks sunny! I hope it settles soon. I haven’t been this bad in quite some time.

@Longroadhomethank you for that thoughtful message. I’m in bad shape and so afraid again. Just counting down the minutes and praying it ends somehow. Idk what happened, I was totally fine on my taper, then I switched it a different pill strength (but same dose) and everything went to hell. Thanks again for your words of wisdom.

@Adili13

maybe the drops have just caught up with you and you need to let it settle down .
Paxil is a powerful drug.

Keep occupied and try not to worry. Don’t over analysis ”why” because it could just be it would have happened anyway.
you may have given your body a little jolt but you haven’t made big cuts and it will settle.
