@Longroadhomeit seems my agitation is explosive and just is always with me no matter what I do with lowering the drug. I often wonder if my slow tapering is just not working for me and if I have to get off faster. I feel so lost. Thanks for the post, friend

I know exactly what you mean. Many many times I have felt the same. The only way forward is to continue to slowly taper off. We all have a symptom that stays with us and is the one we detest the most. Mine is the floaty boat feeling. And so many times I’ve had that feeling of hopelessness. For some of us no matter what we do the symptoms are unrelenting. You just have to remain determined and focus on getting off the drug.
whether you can see it or not you are making progress.

No matter how hopeless never lose sight of your goal.
Keep moving forward.

@SottanaThere has been a few times over the last four years where I have felt desperate and just wanted off the drugs. To just stop or taper quickly. I’m very glad I didn’t as I think I’d have gone back on them and ended up on a higher dose but feeling worse, or tried different drugs and ending up on a cocktail of them. There is no quick fix.

4.8mg.
But look at my drug timeline. I was tapering both drugs at the same time then. Foolish. I don’t know whether this kicked it off or whether Pregabalin was masking the Paxil WD more than I thought.
It worried me for so long thinking I’d done myself damage. Now it’s in the past and I can’t change it so I don’t worry or think about it.

I think @Aurorax made a really good point on another thread. In that, we look to drugs to solve a symptom or problem that we have and never really give the body chance to heal itself.
This has been  me all my life and for the first time in many years I’m now looking forward to coming off drugs and allowing natural healing to take place.

I haven’t had a reaction to an MRI Adil . I’ve had 4 over the last 4 years since tapering commenced as I have a problem with pain and bursitis in different joints since all this started. Never a problem before. Due to have another beginning of August due to hip pain and clicking/popping feeling in that area.

You are and always have been sensitive to many things. I hope it calms down for you going forward as you taper lower.
You’re getting low now, it won’t be too long before your off. You’ve come a long way tapering off such a notoriously difficult drug to taper from. Keep being the brave person you are.

For some of us symptoms never cease during tapering. We just have to tread careful as we move down the ladder 🪜

We started this journey together and we will end it together by being drug free.

You have my support always.

Hi @Sottana:  I am sorry to hear about your setback from a MRI....how incredibly frustrating. Hopefully the MRI results were negative.  You have come a long way in your taper!  I hope the symptoms you are having settle soon. You have been so patient and brave, Adili.....I am rooting for you, WR.

-1/06 - 3/07 Cymbalta. Fast taper (essentially CT); withdrawal symptoms after 4 mos (didn't realize was WD)

-10/07: 100 mg Zoloft; 1 mg Klonopin - tapered off Klonopin after 4 mos. Several unsuccessful slow tapers of Zoloft; went up and down in dose a lot

-Spring 2013 back on 1 mg Klonopin to counter WD symptoms; switched over 5-6 mos from Zoloft to 35 mg citalopram
-Two attempts at slow tapering citalopram, always increased dose due to WD; also increased Klonopin to 1.25 mg in 2014, then to 1.5 mg in 2015

-8/17-9/17: After holding one year at 20 mg, feeling withdrawal symptoms due to stress - slowly increased to 25 mg. No change in symptoms after 6 months (? tolerance ?)  - decided to start citalopram taper February 2018 (still on Klonopin 1.5 mg).

Supplements: fish oil; magnesium; vitamin D3; curcumin

Citalopram taper:  2/2018 - 12/2019: 25 mg - 11.03 mg I 2020: 10.89 mg - 7.9 mg I 2021: 7.8 mg - 5.26 mg I 2022: 5.2 mg - 3.36 mg I 2023: 3.3 mg - 1.47 mg 2024: 1/5/24: 1.44 mg; 1/19/24: 1.40 mg; 1/26/24: 1.37 mg; 2/2/24: 1.34 mg; 2/9/24: 1.31 mg; 2/23/24: 1.28 mg; 3/1/24: 1.25 mg; 3/8/24: 1.22 mg; 3/15/24: 1.19 mg

I am heartened to hear that you get some relief from your worse symptoms with lowering - that is such a good sign that these symptoms will go as you reduce. At the same time, I am sorry that tapering worsens your other symptoms....I really hope this changes for you at some point in your taper.

Thank you for asking how I am doing. I am hanging in there....also chipping away albeit slowly.  We shall get there, my brave friend.

I’m wondering if anyone on SA who has been very sick for a while would like to connect outside of just messaging on here. I understand for most people they’d like to remain anonymous and that this is enough support, but I’m really craving to connect with people that have been in the thick of it for a very long time like myself in a deeper and more meaningful way.

Trying to take a slight break from tapering because wd symptoms were getting bad but when I take my drug in the morning I get instant akathisia. It’s like I’ve taken way too many stimulants and filled myself with poison at the same time. I’m at such a loss for what to do. I almost feel like people in my situation should just get off fast because no matter what dose I get to it’s like my body stays insanely sensitized to this drug and gives me Aka. I don’t get it

2008: start Lexapro 10 mg which is quickly upped to 20 mg. 2008:2013 try at least four individual times to get off Lexapro, never get lower than 5mg, settle at 15 mg. 2015: again, attempt to get off Lexapro and get to 5 mg. After 6 months, feel i'm stabilizing but go back on a higher dose because of one stressful event. 2016: go to 20 mg from 15 mg due to work stresses, hit severe tolerance for the first time and become very suicidal. 2016-2017: try viibryd and cymbata in an attempt to feel better. Also add Lamictal 150 at some point. 2017: eventually land on paxil 37.5 and Lamictal 150. January 2018: cut paxil to 25. I do, as I was exactly the same. I have read a report written by Altostrata and she says that when tapering down off Paxil the drops are felt more at the low end doses, because of how it works on your system, it is it’s own metaboliser. I think also it works on more receptors at the lower end, so tapering off when at low dose will hit harder with symptoms. And I feel it’s worse for those of us that started out in tolerance, as our body is in the process of working around the drug already,  at the start of tapering.
Don’t try jumping, as I always held that theory, but in reality you’d just end up reinstating because you’d always put intense symptoms down to jumping, and it would scare you into reinstating, bad idea.
Im so glad I never jumped, as I know I wouldn’t have lasted, feeling like I had provoked severe symptoms . Now I just feel this is my path, whatever comes next I will manage. So will you.

Having said that I am on a very small amount of pregabalin. I feel it’s never worked for me, so I will be tapering off the last bit faster than I did the Paxil, which I know has been the cause of my WD illness. But I will taper, and not jump.
just keep going down nice and steady, despite symptoms, whenever you feel up to it. You will get there.
Just keep going, you will get there.

Dear

AKA is so very hard.  Thank heavens it passes, but in the meantime, so hard to be patient with the agitation.  I wish these terrible side effects of w/d didn't exist.

I am so sorry you are going through this, @Sottana.  I think what LRH wrote is wise....not to jump (as tempting as that is - I've been there too), just keep tapering when you feel up to it and you will get there. You are very brave and strong and have done such an amazing job getting to where you are. Hang in there, Adili.

Citalopram taper:  2/2018 - 12/2019: 25 mg - 11.03 mg I 2020: 10.89 mg - 7.9 mg I 2021: 7.8 mg - 5.26 mg I 2022: 5.2 mg - 3.36 mg I 2023: 3.3 mg - 1.47 mg 2024: 1/5/24: 1.44 mg; 1/19/24: 1.40 mg; 1/26/24: 1.37 mg; 2/2/24: 1.34 mg; 2/9/24: 1.31 mg; 2/23/24: 1.28 mg; 3/1/24: 1.25 mg; 3/8/24: 1.22 mg; 3/15/24: 1.19 mg

i appreciate both of your messages. The thing is, I think there’s a difference between tolerance and an out and our paradoxical reaction I think. I take this drug in the morning and right away it’s like my body is being tortured beyond belief. I want to taper and make it gradual but my body is completely rejecting this drug and it’s making me completely insane.

i feel like such a misfit and screwed. I live in agony and fear every day will be my last

thanks again for kind replies

I see what you are saying @Sottana - that is is beyond a tolerance issue and more of a paradoxical reaction.  I wonder if you could reach out to a moderator to see what they think and what you should do?  I feel and understand the fear you are expressing.  I know this feels impossible and like there is no way out but there is always hope, there will be a way through this even if you don't feel that way right now. More immediately though I am concerned how you are feeling at this moment and want to ensure you've got someone you can talk to where you are, that you are safe?

I am worried about you, @Sottana.  It is very easy in withdrawal to believe what your brain is telling you which is a lie....please do not listen to that voice. Is your family understanding of what is happening?  If you can't talk to them, please consider reaching out to a someone you feel safe with.  If you don't have anyone you feel like talking to or can't talk to, please consider talking to a crisis line. I am hoping it might help to get your feelings out with someone in "real time".  I have found sometimes it can help to talk to someone objective who can help you see that things are not as you feel they are.  What do you think?

@wantreliefi appreciate you, I’ll go talk to my family. They’re very kind and considerate but they can’t understand why I continue taking a drug I’m reacting so severely to. I know how the conversation is going to go. “Just get off the poison if it’s messing with you so bad”. Then I’ll tell them I’m afraid of making things worse…etc

@SottanaI am relieved to hear you family is kind and considerate. I understand the frustration of them not getting your fears of making things worse....that is hard.  I hope they can just comfort you now instead of getting into the what to do stuff right now, just be with you. Sometimes I feel better just having someone physically present even if it doesn't take the pain away. My heart and thoughts are with you.
