Mirtazapine is something different I think.

Every week there is something new.

I cant keep my eyes open anymore because I now got this strange fatigue drugged feeling. Its like im still sleeping.

Look at this and tell me mirtazapine doesnt cause brain damage.

Everytime when people got this symptoms this happens.

Im not a negative guy but I think this drug is something else, everyone who got this symptoms from it was in a very bad way.

December 2017- start 15mg mirtazapine

March 2018 - reduce from 15 to 7,5mg then after 2 weeks reduce tot 3,75mg

April 2018- going back to 7,5mg

July 2018-tapered 1mg off every 2 weeks.

September 2018- 4,5mg

Hi Gth,

you're getting into a spiral of negative thinking. I’m very familiar with that pattern! Sometimes we shouldn’t believe our thoughts as they are excessively negative. Try framing some more positive thoughts. To help you:

New symptoms appear at various times for many people including me.

I have also also felt feelings of fatigue and sleepiness during the day, they are very common.

Everything you have felt, many others have felt during withdrawal, and many people have recovered.

best wishes

Rich

Try reinstating low dose and taper slow.Atleast you will get some sooth.Read bhaaski, me etc. Being with patience is the key.Eat curds, rice, milk, turmeric.

If I recovered at the age of 47,It's possible to you .

Cold turkeyed risperidone (1m.g)and trihexyphenidyl combination drug out of ignorance,In August 2016 after one month use.

I think reinstating is dangerous for me I never tolerated it. I think I got a toxic reaction. Normaal people dont get pailinopsia and delayed vision. Its something in the brain. I think many in withdrawal Will heal but there are some who got all the same symptoms and never get Windows. People with MS and Lyme also have palinopsia, memory problems.

December 2017- start 15mg mirtazapine

Gth27 did you ever tested for Lyme? It could be that the first insomnia you ever had before even starting mirtazapine was and is being caused by borrelia or other co-infection.

May - october 2017 - Mirtazapine from 7.5 - 12mg mg for insomnia

May - october 2017 Lyrica 100mg a day.

October-november 2017 - both mirt and Lyrica, or one of them went paradoxical, exteme vertigo after Lyrica. Cut down Lyrica to 3x25mg a day, same vertigo, CT Lyrica. Insomnia developed severe on 12 MG mirtazapine, reduced to 7.5, still insomnia, reduced to 3.75 still.insomnia. CT mirt.

November 2017 - present burning feet, pins and needles, muscle spasms, myoclonus limbs, head, bugs crawling my head burning hands, left side worst. Ears cracking sensation.

May 2019 - put on gabapentin 100mg 4xday to counteract insomnia

I thought about it. They got the a lot of the same symptoms. But it would be very strange and coincidence because the severe symptoms started every time I tapered. And all the other people that have the same symptoms after ssri I dont think they have Lyme.

December 2017- start 15mg mirtazapine

March 2018 - reduce from 15 to 7,5mg then after 2 weeks reduce tot 3,75mg

I was on mirtazapine for about 6 weeks, I had anhedonia before then but if i recall correctly (and it is hard) my ability to connect emotion with  memories seemed to disappear then. I can also relate to the depersonalisation, its a different kind of dissociative feeling (or non feeling). Very stange. I always liken taking mirtazapine to entering into a terrible blank white cloud. Those months after it, together with the sertraline withdrawal, were the worst ever. Since then I' still quite badly effected, but no where near as bad as that firsr hell. Hang in there. I'm still hoping for slow improvements.

Citalopram. Briefly early twenties, no ill effects seemingly. Don't remember dose.

Sertraline on and off for ten years.  I was ignorant and started and stopped frequently. Doses of 50, 75 and 100. I can not recall/did not record dates prior to 2018.

JANUARY 2018: Last period of use was was 150mg of sertraline on 14/01/18  (which triggered extreme depression and anxiety that never settled, amongst other symptoms). I then tapered to 100mg in March (15/03/18), then down to 75mg in April(01/04/18) , 50mg later (11/04/18) 25mg in May  (16/05/18),  and was at 0mg in June (02/06/18).

Mirtazapine 15mg 01/08/18- 02/10/18, 15mg (6 weeks at 15mg the two week taper). - caused deeply unpleasant waves of extreme anxiety, depression, zombie state and mania.

Still on 40mg of Propranolol twice a day since April 2018. Supplements: Fish oil, Magnesium, Vit B6

Yes my symptoms are worse during the day and much improved by the evening. I wouldn't read too mch into that though, its an extremely common pattern for many people apparently. Not just in withdrawal but in non drug related depression and GAD  too as far as I understand.

Its keeps getting worse day after day. I lost everything because I took mirtazapine for sleep. You cant get any help from anyone because they think you are crazy. I never had any troubles in 27 years and now I am crazy? I never saw anyone with depression who cant see good anymore,or hear good anymore, got pressure like your brains want to come out.Im so fatigued I cant even move and my eyes are heavy all the time. Like I took a lot of sleeping pills.  I got no idea of which day it is or what time is. I cant get scared of excited or happy anymore.I forget things I did an hour ago. My children want to play with me but I cant even watch tv. They are everything to me and now I cant do nothing with them. I always was a good father but now I got to say no everytime they ask me something. No vacation,no days out. Its ******* hard they are so little and they dont understand. If something happens to me people think I was depressed or something, they will never know and believe I was poisoned. I cant hold it anymore and on top of that everybody is angry at me because they think I should man up and its all inside my head. We all know how this gonna ends. I know a lot of the people heal eventually but there are some cases with severe reactions and symptoms like me who didnt got any windows. I dont now what happens if I try any other ssri of try TMS or something but something need to happen right now because this is no live.

December 2017- start 15mg mirtazapine

Hi Gth27,

And I'm sorry it is still so intense.

Are you completely off the mirtazapine now, or on the 4.5 mg dose listed last in your signature?

Any improvements in any of your WD symptoms?

Late 2023- gone to emeritus status, inactive, don't @ me, I can check who I've posted on, and I'm not really here like I used to be......thanks.

No im off since december. Everything is a blurr since then. Everything is keep getting worse I am totally disconnected to the world. I dont know what to do anymore. Im in the same situation like a lot off other people but most with my symptoms are dead or they still have severe symptoms after a few years. I cant wait anymore. Reinstating mirtazapine isnt a option I think because I never functioned on it. I think I got a toxic reaction.

Hi Gth27

Can i reassure you when i stopped Escitalopram CT i experienced the exact same feelings. I could not be alone, as i felt like i had dementia. My memory was so bad when i answered the phone within seconds i forgot who i was talking too. I would walk outside of my house and feel as if the world was huge and i was just sat observing from a distance. I had the worst DP/DR.

I know its scary and i know you feel that you are destroyed. Please be assured it has calmed down alot since then. I would say for several month i lived every day like a broken man. My life was so difficult.

Im almost 1 year off and i feel alot better. Still not great but better.

Hi Gth27,

I moved your question entitled "Anybody who got very bad withdrawal and reinstated with another ssri?" back here to your introduction.

Your mirtazapine is in a bit different class from the other ssri's.  I don't know if you knew that.  I imagine that there are many who go on and on with the merry go round of various AD's and other psychoactives.  Most of them probably don't post much here anymore.  We are more targeted for those who wish to taper and learn more about WD and then for support of course.

We've got this discussion going:  In finding meaning.  Has anyone decided that it was best for them to stay on meds. indefinitely?

If you want a lot of support around re-medication then there are other forums for that.  The Nami National site for one.  Patients like me.  And other forums.  They might not give any credibility to your WD, but if that's your choice, then that's okay.

It does sound like you have been pretty darn sensitized now and were never told much about your drugs and the dependencies caused, and WD from.  Many of us in the same boat, of lack of information from the get go.

AND.....so many of the drugs are barely, if even, doing better than a placebo......when they finally get passed through the FDA(in the US anyway) for usage.  And yah.....then the side effects or adverse reactions.  It's awful.

What do you mean.....you're going to lose everything.  What are your natural supports on the ground?  And maybe......just maybe a teeny tiny reinstatement might even work like a placebo.

It's also kind of a catch 22 now too.......that if you go for re-medication expecting resolution, you may not tolerate other medications too well.

Normaal people dont get pailinopsia and delayed vision

What's pailinopsia and delayed vision?  Do you wear corrective lenses?  Have you seen an opthamologist?

Yes, I had some subtle vision changes too.  Under good control now.

I don't think that, as Leo says, it always takes 2 years for all of us to improve.......each of us are really individual.  I certainly felt and did better by 6 months or so........once I understood the whys of my state.

Many of the symptoms of withdrawal syndrome arise from autonomic nervous system dysfunction. The distressed nervous system itself can generate intense uncomfortable feelings -- see Neuro emotions

Non-drug coping can do miracles sometimes too.  Kids Love non-drug, out of the box coping.  Maybe you can find some skills to practice with your kids now.  I mean I know it would be nice to just take a retreat, on your own, and get away from stress and all that seems so very overstimulating right now........and I'll give you a virtual retreat right now.......Ahhh, welcome to the spa.......retreat time.

Also......sometimes.......it's best to limit time here if all you are seeing are negative outcomes........I mean just check in and read the good stuff.......what's helping others, etc............,

as well as at other sites where folks may be focused on the damages, and toxicities and all.

I think there is a mirtazapine/Remeron support type WD group on FB too.  I wonder if that's supportive too?  Have you been there yet?

Okay.  Hoping tomorrow you find one positive anything and some natural supports.

Love, peace, healing, and growth,

mmt

@Gth27 how are you doing lately?

- 2003 to 2015: celexa, 20 mg, ~12 years

- 2015: easy switch off celexa and onto cymbalta, 30mg

(over a decade of fantastic years in here, with one anxiety/depressive episode brought on by a breakup, which I got through with therapy, tools, etc)

- 2017: Nov/December: tapered off cymbalta, 20mg --> 0, over 1.5 mo. in conjunction with my (former) psychiatrist. Zero date: 12/15/17

(I was just sort of curious to try being off meds after so many (great) years. I wondered the degree to which meds may have been affecting my sex drive/orgasm/access to deeper emotions. After going off was ok for about 3 mo... then: horrible anxiety, panic attacks (first time in 14 years and way stronger than I ever had before), agitation, suicidal depression, crushing physical sensation, anhedonia, dp/dr, emotional numbness. Horrible.)

- 2018, July 21: Tried going back on celexa, 5mg

(HORRIBLE adverse reaction, discontinued after 10 days, stopped 7/31/18, thought I would need to be hospitalized)

- 2018, Aug 3: Tried remeron, got up to 15mg for 14 days, then tapered back down to 3.5 mg/d (super sedating, couldn't think and could feel even less)

- 2018, Sept 7 - Oct: Restarted Cymbalta, ~4mg (sept 9, stopped the 3.5 mg of remeron). Went up to 13 mg Cymbalta, then right back down to 4.5mg.

(Now see it as withdrawal and am wanting to get off and heal.)

I dont know whats happening. After a few good months its like Im back in acute withdrawal. I keep throwing up I cant eat, I got severe fatigue and cant do anything. Also tinnitus and hyperacusis is back like the first time I stopped. Even metallic taste in my mouth is back. I only get this when I first stopped cold turkey. Im off almost a year how is it possible I get acute withdrawal symptoms. Im very scared because last time I had this I didnt make it and went back on the mirtazapine.

December 2017- start 15mg mirtazapine

March 2018 - reduce from 15 to 7,5mg then after 2 weeks reduce tot 3,75mg

April 2018- going back to 7,5mg

July 2018-tapered 1mg off every 2 weeks.

September 2018- 4,5mg

I dont believe this. Every symptom which I had when I quit cold turkey is back. Last time it was about 3 weeks that those symptoms appears. This time it appears after one year off. It started with very hard tinnitus then I got nausea and severe fatigue and metallic taste in the mouth I couldnt even watch television that time so I know whats coming now. Even in the same order like the first  cold turkey but now after a year. Only this time I cant reinstate anymore im one year off now. How the **** is that possible? Withdrawal was very hard this time but I was able to do most things. Another thing which was the same this time is that I really felt good the last few weeks and then crashed really hard.

Hello. How are you doing now? I too have had a bad experience with Mirtazapine and I'm still on it. But I have also been on the other worst drugs possible. Lexapro, Ativan and Zyprexa. You were only on one drug so please do not lose hope! You will be okay!

Im one year off the drug I never get any windows but now its like im back in acute withdrawal. Cant move, cant think, cant eat, songs in my head 24/7. So its gonna be a nice Christmas. Cant live like this anymore, thinking about starting something like prozac or something else. I must be able to function or else I Will lose my family. This mirtazapine is a very nice drug. Everybody who’s getting trouble with this drug dies or are disabled. I never even was depressed. The doctor told me this drug was safe and not addictive. Very nice.
